The previous owner failed to lace the cargo area of the back seat and being an artist, I was wondering if there are any interesting variations instead of the black cord?

Hey Karen! Welcome to the club! Hope you got a great deal on your used E and I'm sure you'll enjoy it for a very long, long, long, long time. :D

To answer your question you can do two things:
1.) click on SEARCH at the top of this site, and look up "bungee". You'll end up with dozens of previous threads talking about colors, where to buy, and creative patterns. I think most people have either bought bulk bungee cords off Ebay or purchased them by the foot at marine/boating stores or REI stores.

2.) go to Element-J's website. He has a fantastic site on do-it-yourself mods for the Element and sample pics of various patterns and color schemes: http://www.govst.edu/users/gallery/element-j/

Have fun! And keep in mind you can lace both the backs of the driver's seat and the rear passenger's seats, too!
