: Lifetime folding utility trailer
does anyone out there own one of these?
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11293557&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&lang=en-US
It seems perfect or nearly perfect for the element. If you own one, what is your review of this trailer?

The one online review I saw of it, guy gave it 5 stars. Looks like a great idea, and the company seems to be pretty good.

Thanks - good info MKH. It seems like an OK deal price wise from Costco - when compared to what this web site is asking.

I do like the idea of this trailer and it seems to be well made.
Let us know and post some feed back if you decide to get it.
maiku 06-25-2008, 08:42 PM I saw that at Sears in case anyone doesn't have a Costco. I don't remember how much it was though.
edement 06-25-2008, 09:25 PM Hi....Noobie here!

Thanks edement. I look forward to your review as it will be thirty days b/4 I purchase (if your review is good)

edement 07-01-2008, 09:35 AM Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!!
Got an email from Costco on the 27th informing me that the trailer was shipped on the 26th. I waited til the 30th before attempting to track it on the trucking site. Wouldn't work...(Costco adds a few extra #'s for whatever reason). After emailing Costco the 1st time (no response) I called the trucking firm. Was told pkg was being loaded on a truck in Carlisle, Pa as we spoke headed for Albany, NY. Also given the phone# for Albany terminal and to call them toot sweet for delivery info. Called them and spoke to nice lady who informed me that she had no record of anything and that, in any event, they do not deliver in my area. I (hopefully) assume that they will job it out to someone who comes out my way which is in the boonschticks. Called Trucker at HO again and was told to expect delivery on the 7th so I'm lighting many candles.
Sent 2nd email to Costco. Can't wait to hear their story!
Life is still good....but I'll know for sure on the 7th.

Built B16A 07-02-2008, 01:30 AM im interested in knowing if this trailer has to be registered? i live in so cal, and ive seen similar small/light duty trailers being sold in stores, but unless it has a specific GVW rating, im wondering how they get around registrations..
bikerjosh 07-02-2008, 07:49 AM Can't wait to see the review. Looks like they make a 8ft length trailer. Curious to see if there are tie down spots for motorcycles or other loads. Wonder if you could bolt in wheel chocks for a couple motorcycles, even if you had to un bolt them before folding up trailer?
Josh
scorsone 07-02-2008, 08:00 AM Sportsman's Warehouse sells the same trailer and I believe they have a few in their stores. If I didn't have my Harbor Freight trailer already I would splurge for this one.
In Kentucky we are not required to register personal use utility trailers and boat trailers. The DMV will even give you a letter to show law enforcement in other states to make it easier on you if some cop wants to be a stickler.
edement 07-02-2008, 06:34 PM Yip..dee..hoody!!
Got a call today from Trucker advising they will deliver the trailer tomorrow....only not to my place but to my son's...20 miles away. Was told if I wanted to wait up to 4 wks. they would deliver to me. Costco was of no help in getting any shipping info.
Not really a major issue as the closest RMV is where I'm picking it up so I can register it and get my plates. If I make it home in one piece I'll make a posthaste post and regale everyone with the wonders of this new beast.
Play on.............
bikerjosh 07-02-2008, 11:00 PM I think you have to register any trailer you are going to pull on the roads. My motorcycle trailer was a one time fee of $15.

It's pretty easy to find out what is required. Just google the RMV of your State. In my State there are different rules and fees as the weight carrying capacity goes up.

Hah!!
I shudda known better than to count my chickens afore I got goosed!
All day I waited with bated breath for the call pick up my shiny new trailer. Bah...I finally broke down and called the Truck Terminal. To my horror I was told that my now "Trailer From Hell" was being returned to the shipper because of a shipper's billing problem. Huh!!
After much double talk and story changing I was told I would receive a call next week to set up delivery.
I'm gonna call Costco and see what funny stuff they come up with.
Stay tuned for the next chapter of "Trail(er) of Tears"

Really enjoying it . . . great for hauling yard debris!
You said you were enjoying this, so I thought I'd make this more interesting! Actually, I hope you find it soon!

Well....lemme see! As I have a lot of time on my hands I've been hammering Costco and the Truckin Co. with phone calls and emails. Seeing as both of them are on different pages I'm either gonna get it on the 9th (yesterday) or the 16th. Of course it might get to the Albany, NY Truckers Terminal on the 16th (80 miles away) but then they have no vehicle with a loading platform (according to the Trucker!). They would have to request a proper vehicle from another Terminal in Meridan, Ct. (150 mi +or _) to go to Albany and pick it up for delivery to me. Of course it makes a lot of sense that they sent it to Albany in the 1st place because the truck from Meridan will be within 2 miles of my house as it travels to pick up my "Wonderful Trailer".
I haven't had this much fun since I fell into a picker bush out in the pasture.
Stay tuned for Season 1....Episode #4

Ps....Oh...and to the guy near Carlisle, Pa. If you play your cards right you just might be able to snag the second trailer also! ;-)
Element Art 07-11-2008, 10:23 PM I've been looking at this other folding trailer. Probably not as good but would be good for most light stuff. Anyone have one?http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200356493_200356493
presto88 07-11-2008, 10:40 PM element art- I had one of those, or, one that looked EXACTLY like it. Bought it at Fred Meyers in Salt Lake City about 10 years ago. It came in a box and I had to assemble it. Not a big job if you have air tools, but there were seriously at least 100 big bolts on that sucker, each with one of those nuts with the nylon inserts (instead of lock washers). Man! Were my hands tired after wrenching all of those down!
I kept it for a few years. Put a 4x8 piece of plywood on top and made some wood sides for it (sorry, no pics). It was a good trailer for light duty stuff, hauled a motorcycle I bought in L.A. back up to SLC without a problem.
However, I've been looking at that trailer that edement is (supposedly!) buying with much envy. THAT's a nice folding trailer! If I still had a real need for a trailer, I'd be all over that thing. Of course, since my current need for a trailer isn't real, maybe that imaginary trailer that he's buying would fit the bill!
tribalelement 07-11-2008, 11:17 PM Now I cant wait to hear about it :)
edement 07-12-2008, 03:48 AM Jumpin Jehozephat!!
I couldn't sleep so I felt compelled to track my shipment and "Eureka" .... the trailer is due at the Carlisle, PA Terminal at 0730 this AM and the revised delivery date is 7/14.There is no way in Heck that this can get screwed up agin! I'm gonna line my driveway w/festive baloons, set up a tent for refreshments, and have the local Ladies Auxillary Oompah Band playing everyone's favorite ...... "Send In The Clowns".

edement 07-12-2008, 09:58 AM Muahahahaha!! Just got the mess. that my wandering trailer is at the unload/load dock in Carlisle, Pa soon to make the final (yeah! right!) hop to Albany. The Carlisle Drum & Bugle Corps Swat Team has the area covered in the event some nefarious scoundrels or neer-do-wells attempt any funny stuff.
Supposed del. date is Mon the 14th. Was advised to call Alb Terminal to set up del. So....I just called and got the mess. they are closed til Mon 8 AM. Soooo....what are the odds that there ain't no way in HECK it'll get on the truck for del. on Mon.
All of us here at the "Home" go to the Chapel daily and pray to the "Man" above (George Carlin) that this wonderous trailer will finally come in from the cold. Don't get much excitement here....it's pitiful! I should have remembered what George said at one of his sermons. He prays to Joe Pesci. You just call Joe, he shows up w/a bat,...problem solved!!

I have been assured delivery on either the 16th (duh!), 17th, 18th, 19th, or 6th of Sept. w/o fail.
The celebration party will commence at the exact moment that sucker hits the ground. I gots a mess of beans w/a big slab of pig simmerin and if we gets delivery of the brats 'n beer...well...w/all the fumes about the homestead there should be no fear of skeeters or eny udder bitey insects.

Got up at 6AM rushed out to the driveway to set up for the arrival of my long missing stepchild. Wifey bellowed out to me that I had better come back in and put some clothes on before the neighbors call for the "Loony Wagon". I'm sure the widow McSnurty down the road had her binocs out because I just know she wants me! But I digress...
After dozing off a bit I got in touch w/the lovely Teresa. She said it's on the truck and rolling but will not arrive until late afternoon. Would she lie?? Perish the thought!!
I am so confident that I have already sent instructions to have the trailer's image removed from any and all milk cartons.

edement 07-16-2008, 02:16 PM Hola...all yoo Trailerers an Traileretts,
The quest for the Holy Grail has come to it's fittiest end. As I am typing I am gazing out the winder at my beauteous stepchild all trussed up an whimpering inside her wooden crate. I knew the truck was near when all the Mission bells started ringing cuz the swallows ain't due back frum Capistrano for anudder 2 weeks. I'm gonna let her sit for a bit so she can get used to her new home....besides it's hot and I need a nap!
As I am outside the Trucker's delivery area the driver was surprised that it was driven to me. I'm quite sure that my many calls and e-mails (always polite w/a touch of humor) was responsible. You can always catch more flies w/honey than w/vinegar. But then agin, as Bill Murray would say, "Who wants more flies"!
I am resisting the urge to run out w/a crow bar an big hammer but I gots to rest my achy breaky ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, neck, an back along w/other unmentionables. I'll have a big bowl of Wheaties in the morning and I'll feel like Jack Armstrong (he's been dead for about 50 yrs. so mebbee thats not such a good choice).
After my nap I'll probably read for a while. As my other Guru, Groucho Marx, once said, "Outside of a dog a book is man's best friend. Inside a dog...it's too dark to read!"
Life is just a bowl of cherries.....SWEET!
Play on.........
scorsone 07-16-2008, 03:35 PM Don't wait to long or someone may take that fancy crate off your hands.
Glad you finaly have your new trailer. I sure hope they sent the right package:razz:
I snuck a look at the label while ede was napping. They shipped him a concrete Tyrollean birdbath with fluted columns by mistake.
bh241 07-16-2008, 06:42 PM I wanna see a picture of Stella.
I bet it's just a mirage...
an altered sense of mind really....
edement 07-16-2008, 08:41 PM Okaaaaay...all yoo nasayers and pickers of nit!
After my wee nappy I figgered I'd read a book so I stuck my hand in the crate and retrieved the Trailer Manual (no..I didn't get bit). I was happy to see that there was lots of picktures and not too menny wurds. Wurds jest confuses thangs. Off I go to git my pry bar and small sledge. Any fool shud reelize that the Neanderthals that make these crates use the hardest wood they can find and use hard, brittle, screwey nails. Never-the-less I got the sides, ends, and top off in one piece. Now Stella (I had to give her a name) is sitting on the bottom of the crate that is sitting on a skid with her wheels chocked by 2x4's on both sides.
Now...I am pretty much older than dirt and my best friends are Al Shimer and Arthur Itis and as Stella weighs about 500 lbs I think I'll use a pulley at one end and a come-along at the other.
If yoo don't hear ennything frum mee for a couple of days...do not despair. I'm a quick healer
Play on.......
Ps.....I got the name Stella from "A Streetcar Named Desire"

edement 07-17-2008, 08:33 PM Yoo-reeka!!
I think I done got the solooshun.
I'll use one of them theeries on building the Pyramids. I'll bury the skid and the crate...remove the rear 2x4 frum the wheels an just walk that sucker...er Stella...to the ground. I got me sum long 2x10's hangin around so's I'll jest lay them on top of the dirt at the least angle possible....udderwise out the driveway we go only to get squished by sum ornery 10 wheeler.
Today, according to my religion, wuz a day of rest. Joe Pesci rests on Thursdays...so should we all! Instead I drove 40 miles to my place of worship...COSTCO...where I dropped...checking my slip now....Oiks...$282.75. Dang...$213.42 spent on my kids an the rest fer me. On to my Polish Deli for sum homemade kielbasa...$12.35 me....$42.67 them. On to the "Home" to visit my (shudder) Mother-in-law. Frum there it's a hop, skip, an a jump to my Italian Deli to get sum Imported Provalone, homemade salami, mortadella, pancetta, an garlic roast beef....$22.42 me......$48.86 them.
Filled the tank of my filled up vehicle for the mere cost of $44.03 for 11 gal. Been getting a pretty steady 25 mpg.
When I finally returned home and pulled into the drivway there she was, a real beauty, ready to travel to the 4 corners of the planet. Though, as a non participating member of "The Flat Earth Society", that cud spell disaster if we fergets to stop.
Soooo...I'm stopping now!

edement 07-18-2008, 11:03 AM HOUSTON....THE STELLA HAS LANDED!!
At precisely on or about and pretty close to 11:52:06 AM, Stella hit the ground....wheels a'smokin and lites a'flashin. I cud hear her sigh w/relief wen I cranked her open. She is a purty little thang!!
Here is whut I done did. I got me sum 2" X 6" pieces of wood, built up to meet the bottom of the tires, and set them along side the tires on the skid that the bottom of the crate is sitting on. I cranked her open til the tires cud set on the 6"ers. I have a pair of 8' aluminum ramps for wifey's wheelchair so I laid them ahind the tires. I supported the ramps midway w/pieces of 6" x 6". I pulled my Element up to about 10' frum the tongue and hitched sum big poly rope to my front tow bracket. Whilst holding one end of the rope (leather gloves on) I pushed her off her pedestal and eased her down. Piece of cake!
More later.....I'm tarred......nap time!!

edement 07-18-2008, 04:56 PM Waaaal...lookie here!
I rummaged thru the attic and voila!!....I found my Brownie Camera already filled w/film. I thought I lost that back in '42. As soon as I can find sum flashbulbs I'll snap a couple of shots so's yoo all kin see whut a fine specimen Stella reely is. Durn..the clicky thingy is a bit squeeky an the lens keeps falling off. Time to break out w/the WD-40 an Duck Tape (two more of man's best friends....outside of a dog).
The only boo boo I can see so far is a small bare metal spot on her left arm...err...wing...err...fender. I mixed up a poultice of Black Rustoleum, Iodine, amd mercurochrome an she didn't even wince when I slapped on the bandage. After I finish my kielbasa an kapusta sandwich...I'll put the shiny new tag on an give her a run around the pasture.

edement 07-21-2008, 07:41 AM Arright!
Seeing that I observe all religious observashuns I rested on Saturday (wearing my little hat) and Sunday (genufllecting when appropriate).
I took sum pics. w/my cell and sent them to a teeny memory thingy so when I figger out how to combobulate them, I'll post.
Stella is pretty easy (not unlike sum udder gals I've known) except when fully opened, where the bed panels mate in the middle, the front part does not seat fully. As this is where a clamp (attached to the tongue) is applied the front slidy panel/ramp is sitting on the clamp instead of being fully seated. I'm callin Lifetime this AM to inquire.
I'm gonna put a 1 or 2' flag @ each rear corner as, when empty, she has a low profile. I pulled her around a bit and backed a couple of times. Seems very stable.
Pretty soon I'll be able to move my Cat D 10 frum the lower 40 to the upper. Just have to remember to be sure I have 80 lbs psi in the tires!

Here's the skinny..
Got a call today from Lifetime. Seems there are no adjustments that can be made. Whut I'm gonna gotta do tomorrow (if it ever stops rainin) is tilt the trailer up so's I kin see unnerneath and attempt to find a bind or improper contact. Keeping in mind that I am pretty age impaired I've contacted the local Air & Sea Rescue Squad and instructed them on whut to do w/my remains shud Stella get a bit testy when I fool around w/her bottom.
I found a couple of nylon flags in the barn frum my Soccer refereeing days an I'll plunk em on the back.
I'm still wurkin on getting Stella's pics on my puter so I kin post em. I just hope to get all this stuff finished before I get committed to the "HOME"!

edement 07-26-2008, 10:27 AM Ok Folks...here we go.
Finally got my trailer harness connected to "Bruce" so I cud hook up to Stella. Got the harness frum etrailer for about $25. I yanked her empty down to the Town Hall an back. Woodn't have known she was there if I hadn't put my flags on the rear corners. Either today or tomorrow I will be traveling about 25 mi to pick up sum stuff so will find out how she goes w/a load. The clamping down issue has not been resolved yet but I have sum clues so will get in touch w/Tech Sup on Monday.
Left Stella hooked up in the driveway last nite so when I locked Bruce frum the house w/my remote (very dark), not only did he flash me, she lit up like a roman candle. I did it a couple of times as it tickled my fancy.
As I have stated afore us old coots hoo live in the hills create our own excitement.
Play on........
I installed the Honda harness. A small PIA but it works well. I have had to tow arround an old dodge 3/4 ton truck bed that has been converted to a trailer to the dump this last weekend. I suspect I am going to need a Stella of my own.

Well 3 Cues,
Didn't get to call yesterday as I was purty bizzy runnin around doin errands. I did do a 50 mi run into the city an back w/Stella on Sat to pick up sum stuff for my neighbor. As expected she is a bit figity when empty. I did have to ajust where she clamps onto the 2" ball as it wuz reely loose. I definitely needed those flags on her rear as she is invisible w/o them. She also has sealed wheel bearings so this may or may not be a concern to some! At the end of both runs I checked for heat....not even warm.
So far....so gud!
Play on.....
Ps....Uh 3 Cues...there wuz oney wun Stella. I do know that they have a Shirley, Monique, an Jezabelle all trussed up an ready to ship.
Thanks for the update. I think the sealed bearings - on balance - are a good idea.

Yo...people,
Sorry for the delayed response. Been runnin my buns off lately and ever time I went to post I passed a couch....so I took a nap instead.
So far so gud...she is a bit noisy on the road, especially when empty, but I read where anudder person is gonna put weather stripping on the offending parts so I'm gonna try that too. I think I'm also gonna get a removable adj. wheel/jack for the tongue (if there is any such thing) cuz being old an worn out I don't have enuf mobility to move Sheila by meself. She is a hefty broad! You young whippersnappers shud have no problem.
Her stop and marker lites are "Pederson's" so the lens's and bulbs are readily available (kinda cheep tho). I did put my old Soccer Ref's flags at the rear corners and they really helpful in backing up and, when empty, a quick glance in the mirror lets me know she didn't go left when I went right. (if I repeat meself occasionally......it's not mee...it's Als Himer) :D
Like I said....so far so gud.
Play on.....
Ps...just a heads up....read sumwhere that a guy frum Ca. cud not register this particular trailer at DMV for sum reason or anudder. Better check furst!

Does the trailer lights do turn signal, brake, night lights? I don't know how these things work.
