Imagine a mirror attached to the top of the back window that was at an angle that allowed you to see down to your rear bumper. So when backing up to a wall or parallel parking you could see the your rear bumper in the mirror and know when to stop.
I work with a LOT of mirrors in my job so one day I grabbed one and taped it at an angle to point down at the curb behind my Element. It worked great! Now I can safely back up to within 2 inches of another car, wall, or other obstical with no worries. It works super well! (Before I was far over estimating the amount of room behind me when parking.)
Now that I am more confident in it, I can actually look forward into my rear view mirror and see my "rear bumper mirror" and know how far I can back up without even turning my head! It is great!
