Has anyone ever heard of Fuel Reduction plates? I googled them and can't find them anywhere. Maybe they go by a different name? I read on the link below this guy installed them on his E and now gets 32 MPG going 70-80 on the highway. He said they only cost $80 and I would really like to install these if anyone can help me out finding them!!?!?! I'm sure a lot of other people will be interested with current gas prices!

I don't know that I would trust it. Like many people have said before, if Honda could have used an $80 part on the car that would have increased fuel efficiency by 5 or 10 mpg, the definitely would have. I really doubt that it works, but if you try it and it actually helps MPG, let us know.

Yeah those "fuel reduction plates" do go by a different name; theyr'e called Cash Reduction Plates. Here's how they work:

Some guy swears he has a device that will make a brick-on-wheels get 32 mpg at 75 mph.

Some gullible consumer sends him $80 for the device.

Voila! The consumer experiences an instant cash reduction.

This is yet another scam resulting from the media-induced panic over gasoline prices. Please don't encourage these hucksters by purchasing or even acknowledging their fraudulent products.

Thank you.

Also the first thing you should notice that his statement is bogus is the Year of his Element. They were not made in 2002, 2003 was the first year for the Element. I would agree with the others that for $80 every manufacturer would be using them and since not it is probably just a waste of money.

Everybody play nice. It's not the first "less than intelligent" question posted here.

Just got my first oil change. Went with Mobil 1 synthetic and a K & N oil filter. Also had them flush the engine after draining old oil.

The flush consisted of pumping cleaning solution and oil treatment through the filter opening and out the drain plug for 10 minutes. It (supposedly) cleans out residue of regular oil to ensure that it won't mix with the new synthetic.

It was $15 more than the regular oil change.

What do you guys think? Was the flush worth it?

Yeah, I would not take it personally either. I think people are targeting the scam and not the messenger.

Now if you really want to tick people on the EOC off, just say that the Element sucks, or tell people to go and buy a Subaru.

The moderators HATE it when you tell people to go and buy a Subaru.

Looking at E.W.'s linked post:
...After Market Fuel Reduction Molecular Plates...
Un-f'in-believable. Now I've heard it all. Somebody's completely full of themselves inventing that particular turn-of-phrase.

I think "oil pan" and "gas tank" are the key. What do they have in common? They are protuberances from the underbody. The "plates" might just be fairings intended to clean-up airflow. 32 mpg? I doubt it. You might gain 0.5 or so doing this.

"It's not the first "less than intelligent" question posted here."

Wow! You sifted through three years worth of posts to find one about flushing the fossil oil from my crankcase before re-filling with synthetic, and you label it "less than intelligent." That's an inordinate amount of effort to insult someone who was simply criticizing a scam, not the person questioning it .... almost like you're trying to create drama.

I'm embarassed for you.

First of all don't judge me. I was asking a question, thats what most people do when they don't know something.

I just got my Element today so I am not asking unintelligent questions I am just not an experienced owner.

There is a difference.

The Great Gas Conspiracy

The "Great Gas Conspiracy" mentioned in the myth is the conspiracy theory that gasoline companies are secretly in league with the car manufacturers to produce fuel-inefficient vehicles, to fatten their profits and split the difference. The myths tested are ways found on the Internet that one can supposedly beat this conglomerate and get cheap, easy, and spectacularly improved fuel efficiency for your car.

Theories tested to see if cheap fuel efficiency can be achieved were…

Myth statement status Notes
…carburetor magnets. Busted No change to fuel efficiency.

…acetone mixed with the gasoline. Busted The acetone was less fuel efficient.

…"miracle carburetor" supposed to get 300 miles per gallon. Busted Far less fuel efficient.

…hydrogen fuel cell. Busted The cell didn't work with the car, and while the car did start unmodified when pure hydrogen was introduced, the hydrogen was also violently ignited soon afterwards, making it an unlikely, dangerous - and expensive - alternative.

…used cooking oil, rather than regular fuel. Confirmed Although there's no word on damage to the engine from using used cooking oil, a diesel-fueled car did run on it. However, the MythBusters speculate that once this alternative fuel achieves a significant interest level among the public, used cooking oil will be hoarded as a marketable commodity. The used cooking oil also did not quite fit the requirement of improved fuel efficiency, as it yielded approximately 10% less distance for an equivalent amount of diesel. (see biodiesel and straight vegetable oil)

I would like to post a toastemonual on the fuel reduction plates. I thunk that 32 mpg was a laugh and I wus gunna better this. Slick little me bought two (2) sets and I am now getting an easy 85 mpg plus while going at 85mph up the grapevine. The double application of the plates must had farther atomizing affects and compunded beyond the expected 64 mpg. So net I got an extra free 20 mpg for zipp zero nada nothing!!!

Nothing is 'sacddly what I got!!

As an engineer I do understand the topic of energy dispersion and no 50 cent plate will double anything. Not hp not mpg not torque, it is just a wallet stripper!!!

First let me say, I covet your Cargo Khaki. Love that color.

Were it me, I'd go with the tailgate banana. It helps to have a sense of humor here but if its any consolation, what I lack in humor I make up for with poor hygiene.

Mileage questions in this forum bring out the wise guy in all of us because they are asked so often. You had no way of knowing, please don't take it personally. We're a fun bunch. Okay, except for bh241.

Welcome to the EOC.

As one CK owner to another - WELCOME!

Ask your questions, and with few exceptions, read the replies with tongue in cheek. Some of these folks can be quite funny, but if you read the replies carefully, stuffed in between the sarcasm and jokes, there is some really useful information.

P.S: Howz' it feel to know you are driving around in the best colored "E" around? CK RULES!:D

Buy a freckin' subaru E-ple!

"OOOO OOO EEEE EEEE AAAA AAAAAH!" *Throws banana and swing off into the safety of the trees*

No really, how much did that magic banana cost? did you get it from tailgatebanana.com?

Khaki is pretty sexy, didn't believe if when I saw my first one... "What??? E's don't come in normal colors! It's gotta be a mod!"

The Fuel Reduction Plate thing was an obvious joke.

Notice the person then said he/she was getting ready to install an "HHO device"? That's another mythical high mpg scan, turning water into hydrogen and burning the hydrogen (also busted on Mythbusters).

Now, the real way to improve MPG is with the Turbonator! I get about 36MPG city/44 Highway with that $40 device. It works Great! :-)

Or send me $25 and I will make you one of them from a Beer Can. Just let me know if you want me to use a Budweiser, Coors Light or Miller Light can. I can even spray paint it any color you want free of charge. :D

best way to decrease the amount of gas you use is to change your driving habbits...... 100% guarantee for positive results. Driving less & with a lighter foot = using less gas :-D

PS.... a little research should have shown (before you bought your E) that it isn't a great vehicle for gas mileage and we all knew gas prices were only going to go higher... No complaints on my end. :)

For what I do with my business I simply cannot think of a better vehicle for the gas mileage. I have a lot of equipment, some if which is very expensive and needs to be secured while I am away from the vehicle.

To this end the E has been beyond great. I took out the rear seats and u-bolted a tool box to the bracket that normally hooks the seat to the floor. In this way I have a secure storage box that is attached to the E without actually drilling into the vehicle. I still have room left over for a ladder, and all the other items that I use.

I also installed Yakima roof racks that are excellent for hauling ladders. And did I mention that the E has excellent door and window space for lettering with graphics? My E is a very professional looking and useful vehicle.

I do not know of another vehicle out there that can do all this and still get reasonably good gas mileage. Yeah, definitely no complaints here. I will be sad when it comes time to replace it. I am shooting for 250K miles minimum before I retire it. I hope there is something comparable to replace it.

Banana is installed incorrectly. It's supposed to be on the outside. Simply use 3 inch hex nut screws and some galvanized aircraft cable. It saves another 2 mpg if you spray with WD40. Hell, a monkey can perform this mod.
