Has anyone tried to use a tailgate pad for a surfboard in their E? Will the straps fit under the tailgate?

I was thinking about going with a tailgate pad and just sliding my board in on that, but what about the hatch? can it stay open while i drive?

What about Soft-Racks? Anyone use those?

Soft Racks work great for anyone out there who is interested. It was $20 and easily removable. Holds up to 4 boards. Soon as I get my pics
