1 year old tire on my wife's E blew today.....tire shop says that it's AWD so they can't replace just the blown, need to replace all 4.
I understand the E to be RealTime 4WD which I understand has a controverisal definition. I have heard that AWD cars do need all 4 tires replaced at the same time but not sure if that apply's to RealTime 4WD.
Anyway, do I really need to repalce all 4 or can I just replace the blown tire?

Call 'em on their BS......then go somewhere else.
It is important that all 4 tires are the same size (diameter) on most (prolly all) AWD, 4WD, 4X4, and RT4WD systems. One replacement for a year old tire is not likely to be significantly different, assuming it is the same size and brand.
That said,
how many miles are on these tires? Are the three "good" tires very worn? Do you want to replace them all?
Even if the other 3 are considerably worn, and replacement of all 4 is in your best interest, the shop should have explained this to you.
Good luck,
Will

The other tires are in great condition...should last another 3+ years. So the difference between the brand new one and the 3 slightly used ones is going to be minimal.
So I am probably okay? proud of my wife...she argued with them and told them only to replace the 1...go her!

Do you really need to replace the "blown" tire? I plugged two of the original GY Wranglers myself. Picked up a roofing nail once and a staple another time. Drove almost ten thousand miles after plugging the first one.

Ya, wife told me the sidewall was blown out. Good news is that when she told them to only replace the 1...they did it for free.

Yeah, probably not a good idea to plug a sidewall and if it was anything like I'm picturing it probably couldn't have been plugged.
Free:cool: That's a good warranty. Figured they would have got you for at least a portion of the new one.

Blown sidewalls. Was this the seond blown sidewall? What brand of tires?
Question is you have had two problems with these tires do you want to take the chance with them? Now nothing serious has happened but what about next time? Sidewalls usually just dont blow.
Unless I wanted to off my spouse or needed the insurance settlement I wouldnt take the chance with these POS! And the last thing I would want to hear from my SO is honey I told you we should have replaced all 4 tires but no you told me it would be okay and looked what happened. She will use it against for eternity.
Replace all 4 tires with another brand of tires and dont go cheap!
And replacing the tire for free was cheaper the legal bills for the shop!
