Cheese-us-aich-tapdancing-key-riced! This is the worst example of thread drift I've ever seen. Some of us come to this thread to see pictures of an Ecamper and instead we find a chat room like discussion that has nothing to do with the topic. Don't you folks spend enough time in Club X?

#1 Show us the PICTURES! --> see attached :)

2a)Say someone had a sound system in their E with an E-camper. Would it shake/rattle like crazy?

Shake/Rattle from the camper or from the stereo? The camper is pretty quiet, big cross winds can give some noises, and going across uneven surfaces you'll hear a squeek on occasion but generally with the matteress on top of the roof it sort of deadens sound! DarkStar had some serious stereo mods, you might PM him to hear his experience

2b)Any chance for an east coast/mid-west installer or anything not 2500 miles away from me?!?!? Please!

Working on it...but not yet. This is a small part of what we do, and lately we just haven't had time find an installer. Also that will likely raise the price as they need to make a profit.

Ursa,
Have you guys considered selling the Ecamper as a ship-out kit for the dyi installer?
I am not interested in color matched paint, just straight white for heat reflection.
I don't know what UPS would charge to ship to NE Minnesota but, I'm sure it's a lot cheaper than driving out to Cali.

Thanks,
Bryon

prolly not, but an east coaster can always hope...

it'd be $850ish in fuel round trip and someplace to live out of for 7 days.... +$5k for the top. pretty spensive, almost doubles the cost.

This has me a thinkin'...
My little sister just moved to Oceanside CA. so having a place to crash for a few nights wouldn't be an issue. Next year, my wife's work has a convention in San Fransisco...
I MIGHT be paying a little visit to the coast this next year. (If I can manage to get my wife's permission:rolleyes:)

"$850ish in fuel round trip and someplace to live out of for 7 days.... +$5k for the top. pretty exspensive, almost doubles the cost"

Double the cost? What? $4300 install - $850 fuel = $3450 / 7 nights is $492/night! Eh, where are you planning on staying, the penthouse suite of the downtown Marriott? :D

For most folks, getting a conversion is an excuse for the classic Route 66 style all-American cross-country road trip/vacation. If it isn't in your budget, that's ok.

Not expecting to offer a kit option in the near future, as you'd be surprised what it will cost to ship something this big via UPS

cheers

John,

I was thinking just that sort of thing. perhaps some sort of vaca in California, while my E we got a face lift.

Anyhow. I posted last week about wanting to see an Ecamper in person soemwhere in the midwest. I'm in Chicago. I would be willing to travel to a surrounding state to see one in person. You know anyone neer me that might be willing to let my wife and I check it out?

thanks in advance.

Out of curiousity, do you need to mount the rack there, or could I do so at a later date? I just thought about it as I was looking at your avatar images. Then I realized: I want to put a rack on me E... But I'm not sure which one I'd want:twisted:
Just a passing thought as I look at how to sneak the purchase past my wife...

costs quite a bit to eat for a week without a kitchen unless i went squatter mode living on crackers and ketchup packets stolen from fast food restaurants. i was homeless for a month in houston one lovely summer with $4.11 in my checking account. twas a good time but i'd rather not repeat that experience. guestimation 2-3 days each way, and a week during the install adds up to about 10-12 days and five of which i'd be without a car, so i'd probably drag the motorcycle on the trailer. maybe in a year or two, but eventually i'd like to do it.

I don't know what the weight limit is but at your size you may have difficulty getting up into it through the moonroof opening. Just something to think about.

Hey - we've been driving our Ecamper from California to Argentina (http://www.thedarienplan.com) (we're currently in Bolivia) for the last year. Here's a nice picture of a gorgeous camping spot we had just below some pre-Inca ruins. When we hit Argentina in a month we think there should be lots more camping opportunities.

I live in St. Paul and had my 2008 AWD converted a few weeks back. I then spent the next 4 weeks driving and camping it back through Southern California, Arizona, Utah and Colorado. It was a great experience and the camper is better than advertised. I have slept about 12 nights in it, in temps down to the teens and it has always been warm and cozy. It doesn't seem to affect the mileage much, and there is no noticable difference in wind noise.

If any midwesterners want to see one, let me know.

Attached are some pics of a few of the camping spots I found.

We just had our 2004 Honda Element converted a few weeks ago, and promptly took it out for it's maiden voyage last weekend. I can safely say that was one of the best nights of sleep that I've ever had in the outdoors!

We had our element converted in preparation for our honeymoon road trip this August, where we will be traveling across the country from our home in San Diego to Denver, Minneapolis, New York, DC, North Carolina, New Orleans, and Phoenix.

Here are a few pictures:

I just put a hitch on my E so I can mount one of these:

Plan to build my own camp kitchen to fit inside the box. Might not be as trick as the SwissRoomBox, but confident I can build it for substantially less than $8K.

Decided to take the trip to Chula Vista last month. Well worth the time and $$$! They did great work. People have asked me if it was a factory option. This was on a recent trip to Newport Oregon.

Every time I see these pictures I want one of these. Perhaps if I do end up selling my Jeep.

When my daughter was born I was driving a '78 Westfalia camper. Would love to have a pop-top again.

Even with the roof rack and box (low pro yakima) I never really dip below 20mpg. I am usually getting 22mpg or so. I also have a very tame right foot.

I am getting around 15 mpg fully loaded with gear on the highway, with the ecamper and a yakima cargo box. This has been the only big thing that I have not been happy with the Element. 4 cylinder power.....8 cylinder mpg. Hard to deal with the turbo diesels that are rocking 25 mph with a much higher load rating.

Love the Ecamper though!

Camping last summer. The tent provides a nice staging area.

Drove back from Ursa Minor last week, and had to add this photo near the Redwood groves in N. Cal:

If you have a 4 door jeep he is now making them for it! Check his site. And he will ship unlike for the E.

beemerchef - how is your element with the 3" lift and ecamper. Does it feel top heavy at all? Any issue with cv boots?
