: Super Stealth Alpine Sub Install in ManVan!
Heyaz:
I finally got around to installing this little Alpine Sub Array (PLT-5) into my Element. I think I found a real discrete spot for it:

Can you tell where it is? I know it's really hidden--you might have to look real carefully. I'll give you a hint--it's behind the driver's seat. ;-)
Rocket Dog 08-01-2008, 02:11 PM Its behind that light blue thing.
Snuffleupagus 08-01-2008, 02:20 PM The dark blue thing?
Is it behind the box the thats behind the drivers seat?

LIAR! I don't see it!! :mad::lol:
How does it sound? I've always been curious about those LAT subs. They "say" it sounds like 2 10"-12" subs, without the trunk rattling effects...is it true? Maximum sound with minimal vibration sounds almost too good to be true.

My honest .$02 cents on it:
It's a really clean sounding bass, but it's only so much you can ask 5" woofers to do, which is essentially what they are. They've got a reall good sound resolution, but the response tapers off bigtime around 30 hz.
The upside is that they are all self contained and amplified, and for their size they sound pretty good. In the Element, with nothing else in the cabin, the bass ends up sounding a bit tinny. With two passengers, or two passengers and two big dogs, the sound gets damped and is perceptually better.
It was minimally invasive to install (aside from taking up space in the cargo hatch.) It's connected to a Pioneer 700BT headunit. Cabin speakers are Polk 6.5" coaxes.
On an absolute basis, and if I was listening to classical or jazz music alot, it's probably all the bass I'd ever need. Unfortunately, I'm into a lot of rap music.
They sound nothing like the pair of 12's I've got in my other car. :-) Took a ton less work though. It doesn't draw enough power to dim the lights or anything like that.

HAH! See I fooled you guys--it's actually IN the box behind the driver's seat!
You thought that was something that came from Honda, huh? It looks that good, eh? :-P
BigAl205 08-01-2008, 08:38 PM Is it anywhere near the enclosure obviously labeled "Alpine"
tribalelement 08-01-2008, 08:41 PM you need to clean the in side of your "E"
NismoGriff 08-01-2008, 08:51 PM Moby, if you have the opportunity....take a listen to a Digital Design 1508 subwoofer. It's an 8" sub, requires a ported enclosure as small as 11X11X20 It should have a good 500W RMS going to it, but I am running mine on about 250W and the output is impressive!! I mounted my amp under my driver's seat and ran the speaker wire to the rear of the vehicle and I can disconnect the sub easily if needed. You can check them out at DDAudio.com (http://www.ddaudio.com/dd/default.asp)

Hater! ;-) If it was too clean, the dirt couldn't blend in as well.

Thanks for reminding me--wouldn't want it to be too conspicuous:

beanz8spun 08-02-2008, 05:48 PM it doesnt look very stealth, it looks like a small bandpass box for an eight
Blank 08-02-2008, 07:10 PM That would make a good computer case.
SilverSC 08-02-2008, 09:12 PM Moby, be very careful. The shop here in town had two back to back start to catch fire. Something to do with the internal wiring of the built in amp. But this was when they first came out last year. So maybe Alpine has fixed the problem.
