:( Noticed today a strange rubbing sound when I would make slow right
turns. Has anyone else had this problem? I only have 2,000 miles on
my Emily!! Help! I'm thinking its the brakes..........Also, there's an alot of
brake dust on all my rims for such a new car. I just washed it 6 days ago.
Can anyone give some insight???
Thanks I love my 'E' - but suddenly very upset. :( [/b]

the brake dust is the bad thing about 4 wheel disk brakes but they are much better than the old drum brakes as far as stopping power. different materials have +'s / -'s,,, stickyer pads will stop faster but wear out and cause more dust, harder pads don't stop as well but last longer and give off less dust, hope this helps

might not hurt to go get it checked out if dust is excessive the rubbing your hearing my be a brake dragging, warped brake rotor?
some brake dust is normal but the rubbing sound isnt

my E is brand new and I am fairly sure one of my rear rotors is warped and is rubbing in one spot. It sounds like the original poster may have the same issue. I hope it's just a matter of the rotor being mounted incorrectly.

This may be a stupid comment/question, but I hear that brake rubbing sound when I apply the breaks. I've never noticed "hearing" the brakes rubbing when I apply them on my old car -- is this normal to hear this sound? Is it just because you can hear every little thing in the Element?

Thanks for the help!

There was a similar thread not too long ago. Someone suggested checking out the differential fluid and making sure it is full.

I know next to nothing about Elements, but your problem sounds like a Constant Velocity joint. I'm not even sure if the Element even has CV joints, but a damaged CV boot could allow dirt to get into the joint and destroy it. In extreme cases this may cause the front wheel to fall off. You will hear it before it does. If you hear it-STOP. Look at the boot, (it looks like a manual shifter cover only more robust) at the axle in the front. If it is damaged, the CV joint MUST be replaced.

I disagree about the CVJ boot. The noise that an outer constant velocity joint will give you on a turn is usually a "clock clock clock" type of sound. and if a boot is torn you will see the grease thrown all over the area. but at 2k miles I would recommend bring it in for the service dept to check it out.

Just a suggestion...you might try removing the wheel in question, spray the brake rotor with brake cleaner...spin it a few times and repeat the process. Then replace your wheel and see if this helps.

I do agree with the previous post. With so few miles on your E, have your dealer check it out...possibly even when you do your "break-in" oil change. Good luck and keep us informed.

Too funny. I have the same thing going on right now. Slow right turns, rubbing. Gonna have it checked out or try the cleaning. Bout time for new pads all the way around as well, so might just go that route. Do alot of desert/mountain driving...

Thanx

I think changing the diff out fixed it. More to follow. Need to test a little more, but changed out today with Honda Dual Pump Diff Fluid, took it out, & no right hand noise...

Thanx
