: Anyone use E10 gasoline?

I heard an radio ad today for a Ethanol fuel station grand opening selling gas for cars for $1.85 for E85 and $2.85 for E10. They said any auto after 1980 can run on E10. Has anyone heard of this or tried this? I am curious about the mileage, engine performance, problems, etc.......

I am guessing the MPG will be lower as I have heard for E85. Anyone????

The entire Northeast uses E10 as standard in all gasoline. they switched from MTBE to E10 a few years ago. MTBE caused too much damage to engines, undergound tanks and even caused cancer! It reduced your mileage as well... lol

We use E10 during the winter, it is our "winter blend". It is sold in the Northeast and other parts of the country from around October to April. It sucks big time for mileage and raises the cost of gasoline. Avoid it if you are able to. Don't believe the hype about it improving your mileage, it doesn't.

E10 is "just gasoline" here (Illinois/Missouri). We've had it full-time for about six years. It cuts MPG by 10% or so in a lot of cars but not all. I've been unable to notice much of a difference in our E.

i get between 25 to 30 percent worse gas mileage with E10. on the highway i can barely get 200 miles out of a tank of gas with E10. it has also messed up my sensors in my fuel tank and noe i get inacurate reading on my fuel guage. its bad stuff.

I seriously doubt that in the 3 1/2 years I've owned the Element that I've ever ran anything BUT E10.

2.85 a gallon for E-10...............I'd jump on that like a OSU player on a Michigan cheerleader

Hell yeah! Burn it while it's cheap then go back to regular. Here E10 is going for 3.65 a gallon. As far as fueling your E it is designed to "tolerate" E10. E85 OTOH is a different story. Never ever E85 in your E (unless you sell it to someone you don't like right after filling it).

It absolutely cannot be E10 alone doing this. Your E has other issues.

E10 has been popping up at certain stations around here (Wal-Mart--which means everyone else follows to keep their price match). It's a rip-off because I don't get good mileage from it. In Oklahoma, there are stations advertising "No Ethanol Here" on their signs, and charging 10 cents more a gallon. E10 is not a good deal because the cost savings are offset by the lack of fuel economy. I went from 23 average MPG to 19.

Interestingly, when I was in the Northeast, (Maine and Vermont, mostly), my E averaged 25-26 mpg. Should have been the summer blend, since it was in September. I think they sell the poorest quality gas they can around here.

I've stopped looking for no ethanol stations, and am just paying extra for mid-grade gasoline, which I assume has ethanol, too, but gets better mileage than 87 octane. Besides it wasting my money, it makes me have to fill up more often and that's a pain in the neck.

E10 is "just gas" here. I'd complain about efficiency but it doesn't really matter, the government people around here make it mandatory, so efficient or not, it's what I'm forced to have.

$2.85 is great for "every day" but GetGo + perks in this area right now are running about $2.49 per gallon. I LOVE GetGo perks!

All stations in PA sell E10, labeled on the pumps as "contains up to 10% ethanol" as our standard gasoline. Last year the max in PA was 5%. All of our vehicles get 5 to 10% worse gas mileage on the E10 blend.:x

I would guess that E10 is all I ever used. We are trying to control the brown cloud here.

I keep rubbing my eyes, but that really does read $2.85.

Are you SURE of that?????

The original poster said $2.85, which is probably a promotional thing. That's where I got the number from, saying it's good if it's a NORMAL price.

The $2.49 thing, yes, not a typo. Right now, gas is $3.49 in my city (it's $3.75 where I work... Guess where I fill up...) NORMAL price. The GetGo perks is one of those "spend $50 and get ten cents off per gallon for a fill up". If you REALLY bust your butt to maximize the number of discounts you get, you can really save a ton of money at the pump. They offered a dollar off per gallon for the transfer of a prescription, which my wife did this week. A dollar off the regular $3.49 is $2.49. :)

Granted, that sub-$3 price is NOT normal. But I've had them a few times the past few months.

If ONLY they made a sausage biscuit and sold 24 ounce coffee, they'd be the penultimate little store.

One of our local grocery stores gives discounts on gas based on how much is spent on groceries up to 0.49/gallon. So far I have yet to pay more than 3.80/gal for regular this summer. Having that discount really does help.

Yea, that was a promotional price. Sounds like E10 doesn't save you much. You spend more time filling up. I personally use BP because of the rebate on the credit card. Extra cash in the wallet.......:D

Yes, it can. I went from 24.5 mpg to 18.4. I lost more equivalent percentage of mpg over the energy difference in the fuels.

For most of us (and you given enough time and no impetus to change it) it'll be an entirely moot point. I'm sure the Federal Government People will be mandating E10 soon.

My E has run 100% E10 and I'm averaging 27 MPG which is equal to the 2003 Malibu my wife got hand-me-down so I'm just fine with it. I simply like choices and resent when they're taken from me by force. :(

I filled up at GetGo today for $3.29 a gallon and saved the receipt. I'll scan it so IRV can hate me some more.

I used to have a choice between 100% gas from Citgo (Hugo Chavez) or 10% ethanol from Kwik Trip (a Honda recommended Top Tier gas).

It was always a dilemma which to pick, and went back and forth. Despite tracking my mileage religiously on a spreadsheet, I could not identify a difference in MPG. If anything, my bias would be against the ethanol blend, which I do not support.

Anyway, my Citgo now has ethanol gas except for their premium. So now I stick to the Top Tier gas, 10% ethanol and all. My last tank was 26.0 MPG (easy 60 MPH commute, driven very conservatively). My best tank ever. I wish I could get 100% gas that was a Top Tier provider.

Hate you?? Heck I'm envious as all get out at your fuel prices.:)

My comments were directed to your post of $2.85 / Gallon when the the National average is $3.68.

All in all......I'm happy for ya!!

Then I would be pushing 36 MPG's if I hunted down 100% gas?

I agree w/ the energy difference w/ E85, but 10%....nah.

I was thinking of the same thing, Rock. Could Widjit and others reporting huge differences and performance issues have inadvertently filled up with E85? The mileage penalty for E85 is in the 15-25% range (on flex-fuel vehicles specifically designed for its use). I should know, the flex-fuel Mazda B-3000 PU I traded for my E was fueled with E85 most of the last three years I drove it. The 3.0L flex-fuel V6 preferred the 100 octane E85, especially when pulling a trailer or under load. Also, in my experience, the mileage penalty for E10 is in the 0-5% range, consistent with the 4% reduction in energy content of the enthanol blend compared with unleaded gasoline. This is based on having lived in central Illinois for over 30 years where E10 has been available for over 20 years.
