: Knightrider
So I'm working on a movie at Studio in LA and on a different Stage (same Lot) they are filming a new TV series called "Knightrider". I happened upon 8 of these parked near my parking area and had a chance to discuss the car and the background behind it. Apparently when they approached GM about getting some Firebirds (original Kit was a Firebird) They were turned away, When they approached Ford, they were asked "How Many?" They used 15 in filming the Pilot (which is used to sell the Project /Series to a Network) When they got "picked up" they were given another 7. Some are detailed nicer than others and are considered "Heroes Cars" and others are "Stunt Doubles" and are trashed and abused. The pics are of a "Hero Car" that had been prepped for appearance at the California Motor Speedway on Monday.
Chasester 08-30-2008, 11:55 PM My brother and I were big fans of the original Knight Rider growing up. I do not know how today's kids view it. But the pilot to me seemed an exaggerated commercial for Ford; nearly every vehicle you'd see on the highway, villains cars, etc. were all Fords. A large number of commercials were for Ford.
Disappointing to me, I enjoyed seeing Kit be a Mustang - but too much was too much.
dancetiludrop 08-30-2008, 11:57 PM I saw the pilot and liked the concept but hope the writing and acting get better now that's it's going be a series.
It will be interesting to see the feedback with them going to a Ford vehicle.
Critical_level2 08-31-2008, 12:08 AM I also saw the pilot. I was not sure what to think, a mustang filling in for a Trans AM. Then I saw KITT was one of the new Shelby 500s. It ended up being great. I love the new features KITT has. I think the new KITT is awesome and they did a very nice job with it. :)
scanrps 08-31-2008, 10:59 AM The origanal Kit was a clean, almost stock looking firebird.
The New Kit looks like a 8 year designed it, with all the fake
looking tack on stuff. IMO

I agree. It looks more like the Batmobile than a KITT. Is this how all of the new models look or is this some kinda post-super-persuit-mode-transformed model?

I agree BigAl. I bet this is a kind of super-pursuit-mode version. I can see you've done your Knight Rider homework...
For those who don't remember season 3's super-pursuit-mode:

From what I saw on the pilot, The pics posted are the Pursuit mode. The normal look of the new KITT is a very clean looking Shelby 500.
BigAl205 08-31-2008, 04:20 PM I've still got my Knight Rider lunch box:-)
Even as a kid, I thought the super-persuit mode was extremely lame. All of that extra wind resistance would actually slow the car down
I wonder if Val Kilmer will do the voice in the series as he did in the movie.
I did not see the pilot so I'm not up to speed with everything, I did see several other Mustangs that were very clean, some appeared to be Shelby 500 others could have been less. I may cruise by on Tuesday when we go back for day 5 ( of 19) and discuss with the Kit crew what's happening.
Inquiring minds wanta know.

He is dreamy isn't he AL:rolleyes::)
BigAl205 09-01-2008, 08:50 AM He is dreamy isn't he AL:rolleyes::)His voice isn't bad, but I've always thought he looked more like John Boy Walton's twin brother.
I think Larry The Cable Guy or Gilbert Gottfried would do better voiceovers. :-P

Larry - Thait gaias y'all put in waz sum cheap stuff. Let's hear what's on the bluegrass station. Doggonit Mike, how many times I said I know where we's goin?
Gilbert - OH, OH and I suppose we REALLY need to GET there on time. Yes, ALWAYS my problem to make those things HAPPEN... What's with that EXPLOSIVE Michael? What are you DOING? That's my audio OUTPUT!?!
Larry at least would make a tolerable voice, with some humor thrown in. Gilbert would make me root for the bad guys in their attempts to destroy the car, Michael might even help them after an episode or two.

protaganis 09-02-2008, 02:13 PM Kitt here with a REALLY great idea for you! You're car has gotten dirty and Michael, YOU HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE IT SHINE!!!
Now Michael, YOU said you WOULDN'T drive off that cliff! That means that YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THROUGH. It shows a clear INTENTION of NOT driving off that cliff:lol:
Caught me on a boring day... And a weird frame of mind...:D
