some things really shouldn't be joked about, this being one of them.

As for the meet - I remember several talking about doing just that, but I was thinking it was just a 'dog meet' kinna thing this coming spring?

If nationals are dog friendly this year ie camping I think we should put together some games for the little ones, stupid dog tricks . hot dog eating, owner dog look alike contest.
We should also arrange to have a place (or De) to do dog sitting.

I think this is a cool idea! Although I have the same problem as Bummer... My girl dog is not friendly. But my boy is a lovable lab. He is always game for some playing :-P

I think we are in a wait and see about nationals. If that is not dog friendly then we should try to set a doggie meet up.

Why don't we just go ahead and make the call and commit to putting together a 'dog-E' meet for next spring?

We started a thread a while back and it kinna fizzled out, but the jest of it was going to the Four Paws Kingdom (http://www.4pawskingdom.com/) in Rutherfordton, NC

I've only heard good things about the place - but I've never been there.

If we do this in the early spring it won't interfere with the International Meet in any way.

Atlas and I would totally be into this. And if Angel is still with us, I'm sure she'd love a play-date.

I have no problem in contacting 4paws and heading up this at all - after all it's dang near in my back yard (comparatively speaking) anyway.

However - everyone needs to know right now that they made some changes in their rules this past year:
Important Disclaimer: as of January 2008
Insurance regulations prohibit us from accommodating a limited number of breeds. We apologize for this measure. We know that these breeds are often part of your family and can be the kindest and friendliest dogs around, but the insurance industry makes the rules and we have to follow these rules to obtain liability insurance and stay in business (after all, we are a one-of-a-kind niche business).

We apologize to the owners of the following breeds/mixes:
Rottweilers, Bull Terrier and Miniature Bull Terrier, American Pitbull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier (Amstaff) and Pitbull Mixes.
That said, take a look at their website (http://www.4pawskingdom.com/index.html) and let's make a decision if this is what we want to do this spring. If so, I'll see what can be worked out for us as a group.

Before it starts, no I don't agree with the concept of 'breed discrimination' but it is a fact of life in this area. My own homeowners insurance company refused to renew our coverage this past year due to our dogs. :-x So I know all too well where these folks are coming from. We were lucky - we found a different insurance company that not only gave us better coverage it was at a better price too and they didn't bat an eye at our dogs... So please, let's don't start bashing these folks for something that they honestly have no control over.

If it's that big of a deal, we'll do something else - or just not do anything. OK?

why not set up a long weekend for this.... either in spring or summer.... can someone set up a vote?

or we can do a section to the national meet.... i dont know if TMac is okay with it.....

Take a look at their website, they have just posted the 2009 schedule of events (http://www.4pawskingdom.com/events_2009.html). Sadly, I have been informed that the mid-April time period is booked solid.

We do need to decide on a weekend, and start making reservations - this place fills up fast. We simply cannot wait till the last minute and expect this to happen.

As for the International Meet - I cannot and do not talk for T Mac or those in authority to make the decision, but I doubt something like this would be considered for a International Meet simply due to the fact that there are those that don't have nor care to have dogs in their element. Not every one that drive an E is a crazy dog person :-o nor are they keen on the whole camping idea. The whole 'Dog Meet' idea will have to be a different meet.

Yes, we can make this an International Meet, but it would have to be scheduled away from the 'normal' International Meet.

I would look into the early to mid May time frame. Pick a weekend and i will make it work.
We might need an apromitate head count. ie 10 sites or 50 sites?

i thought at the international meet every interest group would split into their own niches...like colors, mods freaks so...naturally dog owner can set up an area to hang out too..... of course there will be some events we'll be together.

anyways...another timing and location is good....keep me posted!

I'm not trying to be difficult about it, I certainly would love to see something like this incorporated into the 'real' 2009 International Meet. But honestly right now the decision hasn't even been made about where to hold the "Big Event". Call me silly, but I really do doubt Rutherfordton, NC is even in the running..

Why not post the idea in the 2009 International Meet LOCATION (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49466) thread that T Mac started and get the idea considered by the committee. Who knows, maybe it could happen. But I would recommend going at some other time than June/July due to the heat. The ones of us with the big dogs really don't want to see them try to deal with the heat of a summer day.

That said, we need to decide something because the 4 paws campground will fill up and we'll wind up not being able to attend - as a group anyway. Whatever every one decides is fine, post your opinions / thoughts / comments and we'll go from there.

I have been in contact with the owners of the campground and have made arrangements for a tour of the facility to determine exactly what our options are. But, for now, the first chance I will have to go out to 4 paws and check the place out will be just before the November Mid-South Camping Trip, hopefully by that time we'll have some type of general idea of what we want to do.
