: Keyless Entry
Takerhybrid 11-10-2003, 05:43 AM I know there are many threads on this site that tell you how to install the keyless entry but i went to handa-accessories.com and I did not understand how to install the keyless entry. I just bought my element today and the salesman said he wanted $450 to install te keyless entry. I knew he was trying to screw me and so I went to handa-accessories.com and saw it for something like $108. I was wondering if anybody can show me actual pictures of how to install the keyless entry because I am confused thank you for your help and I am sorry for bringing up another post on keyless entry.

Dont waste your money - buy yourself something nice with the extra and install yourself. Its no harder than removing a panel and plugging it in. If you are in Northern Cal I could offer assistance if you think you need it.

Shmee 11-10-2003, 02:18 PM For me, the keyless entry was a very necessary item. I had my own personal fears of installing this, but when I saw how truly easy it was to do it, I ordered it. There are acouple of little known facts that people may or may not realize when using this VERY handy item. The keyless entry does more then simply unlock/lock the car. The mechanism also allows less wear and tear on the actual key to your precious 'E'. Over time, using the keys to lock or unlock the doors will indeed wear down the cuts of a key. Not just any key mind you, a key that is roughly $50 to replace due to the nature of the implanted transponder in the fob of the key itself. I accidentily discovered a 2nd reason for using the keyless entry. When you unlock the doors using the remote, pushing the unlock button on it serves to unlock only the driver's side door. This is designed as a safety feature. This is great for my wife to quickly hop in the 'E' on a solo evening trip to a mall or other appointment without worry of someone else hopping in on the passenger side. To unlock all the doors, all that is needed is a 2nd click of the unlock button on your remote. The item is a time saver and allows for less wear and tear on your car. Easy decision for me.
Goodluck with yours...

mborkow 11-10-2003, 04:19 PM really, it cannot be overstated: the keyless install is simple. if you can connect two lego blocks then you can do this.
Takerhybrid 11-10-2003, 05:35 PM Thank you for your help. I am going to buy the keyless entry today and it is nice to know that installing it will be so easy. I guess with the extra $342 I saved I will buy more accessories through handaaccessories.com thanks for the help.
yosemite hiker 11-10-2003, 07:54 PM Just remember the hook up is to the left of the stearing wheel near the side wall under the dash. Took me 5 minutes to plug it in after I spent 20 minutes trying to find the spot to the right of the stearing wheel.(There is a plug with a blue tape on the right but it won't fit. Also, no need to disconnect the battery. I can't believe how much the dealer charges for 5 minutes of work!
b_degenkolb 12-01-2003, 02:53 PM There is no coding the remotes or anything,it is just that easy like the pictures tell you?!?!?
hownowcb 12-01-2003, 06:13 PM This is beating the horse completely to death, but I've yet to hear of a single person who couldn't do this. Half could do it with one hand tied behind his/her back! If you really feel the need to scream for help, do so, and somebody here will PM you to find out where you live and drive over to do it for you. Just because it's the holiday season, and all.
lae10851 12-01-2003, 06:46 PM i think i could do it with both my hands tied behind my back - no wait thats something else.
Seriously tho you are gonna love keyless - especially on rainy days when you dont have to fidget with keys to lock and unlock. Its the greatest!
hownowcb 12-01-2003, 07:13 PM That's something altogether different!
LowEclips 12-02-2003, 04:20 PM just for giggle's thought you guys would wanna know that when you buy a honda accessories.... they must be regeristed with honda for them to be covered buy your warranty... and if something goes wrong and messes something else up they don't have to cover it.....
firetruck41 12-02-2003, 05:10 PM My reciept has the Honda Warranty information on the back, don't need to register anything, I am covered as long as I have my reciept, date of installation and mileage at installation, which I do, no worries. I can't think of what could get screwed up by installing a keyless entry? :? Or any of the OEM accessories really, about the only thing that could go wrong is you put a hole in the wrong place for the alarm LED, or scratch something when removing some panels installing the fog lights or something like that I guess.
Well I won't be dissuaded from installing my own accessories, especially with all the help available on message boards like this one :D
Borg Queen 12-10-2003, 06:17 PM Installed the Keyless Entry today. I got it from HandA, along with the splash guards and cargo organizer.
I don't think mods get much easier....THIS WEBSITE (http://www.govst.edu/users/gallery/element-j/) helped a lot..great pics!
The hardest part was getting the PITA cover off! Most of it came off just fine..one corner got hung up and would NOT come off no matter how I tugged at it. Finally it came off but the clip snapped off. Fortunately it didn't make a difference..went right back on without a problem.
After that it was cake..screwed the little mounting bracket in, slid the module on and plugged it in..the plug had to be freed from some blue tape but that was't a big deal. Then I programmed everything and put the cover back on. Seems to work great!
I like mods like this. :)
hownowcb 12-10-2003, 07:30 PM Now the dare is for you to say "Even girls can do it!" (And I mean that most respectfully!)

I would but I'm not a "girl"..I'm a woman. :P
Heck..I've installed lots of parts on cars..Installed any camshafts lately?
It takes me longer to change the oil on the Miata than it did to put this Keyless Entry in. I'm still looking for the oil filter on the Element.
orange cool box 12-15-2003, 11:46 PM the included instruction graphics suck.
I installed mine today. Could not have done it with out the pictures at
http://www.govst.edu/users/gallery/element-j/
Also the programing instuctions said that upon the 4th or so cyle of the key pressess one could hear the locks cycle on and off to verify that the system was now in program mode. I never heard or saw any locking or un locking during the programing. All I know is finially i turned the ignition off stepped outside and tested it and it worked fine. Yes somehow I even got the 2nd remote programed too.
go figure. I still don't know how I programed the #^&#$% thing, in my opinion.
orange cool box 12-16-2003, 12:24 AM PS I think Lae and Hownow should do a high wire act like the Wallindas.
PPS "pain can be the result of poor politcal acumen" lol
Dr Timbo 12-28-2003, 01:12 PM Well, it's true. Installing and programming the keyless is as easy as everybody says. And finding your E at the mall parking lot is now easy, just hit the panic button and listen for the horn!
lae10851 12-29-2003, 11:26 PM hey orange:
I'll pass on the high wire act. And thanks for the compliments.

Itchy 01-07-2004, 07:38 PM Just put the remote in took 10 min. works like a charm .

When I installed this, I didn't program the remotes. I'm not sure why, but everything was pre-programmed when I got it. Everything seems to work perfoectly. 2 months without a hitch. Does anyone know if there are other features that the programing would allow you to manipulate?

I have to send along my thanks for the images of the Keyless entry install. I ordered the Keyless from H and A and it arrived today. I tried to follow the crappy Honda instructions that came with the kit and to say the least I was very frustrated. I surfed around the EOC site and found a link to your site and within five minutes the whole thing was installed.
If anyone needs the link to Element-J's site here it is:

Thank you very much for your help.

SRLNCLT 03-04-2005, 04:22 PM The install instructions are right on H and A website. Cake to follow.

special k 03-04-2005, 06:59 PM While reading this post I saw the link to element J's website. wow is all I have to say. a must to visit for an E owner. I've bookmarked it for future reference. Thanks.
joemama 03-04-2005, 07:08 PM To tell you the truth I had trouble locating the mounting bracket position. It was
element-j's site with the nice photos that allowed me to complete the install quickly.
I am actually very good with cars (I rebuilt a wrecked 944 and a Toyota Celica and the rear window mechanisms of two Toyota 4-Runners (87 and 93) basically I have always owned something that needed some work and I did most of it myself. I just think the instructions from Honda (H and A) were poor. So any others thinking of installing the Keyless entry look at both the website of Elelment-j and the Honda instructions.
It's not H and A's fault. In fact this marks the third order from H and A for me and they always deliver what they say they will and well within the time quoted. My comments were not directed towards H and A it was the poor Black and White images in the Honda instructions.
Out of my Element 02-05-2006, 09:13 PM OK, I'm a girl! HAHA! I've been wanting to get the keyless entry for some time. My husband has no interest in my "E" believe it or not. That traitor! He also has no talent when it comes to installing anything on a car. And damn, forget about changing oil. So, it's up to me. I've perused the picture site and feel very confident that I can do this. NOW, where is the best place to purchase the product? And someone said they run a little over $100?
OFF SUBJECT: Anyone experience rattling in their doors especially when running over unforseen bumps on the road?
Snavta 02-28-2006, 09:02 AM Is the 05 LX model already capable of being programmed or do you need to install the extra bits?
LXRik 06-28-2008, 01:20 PM At first the remotes worked right out of the box. Dumb me I decided to follow the programming instructions. flip the key on and off press the button four times in five seconds!!! on the fourth time the locks clicked but didn't cycle. Now the darned things don't work at all.
How do I program these things??????
ochochoa 03-16-2010, 10:19 PM Hello-
I'm new here, but was inspired by how many of you installed your own keyless entry systems. I have an 03 DX and I ordered the keyless entry kit from H and A that many of you have used.
I disconnected the battery, removed the panel and that is as far as I got. I cannot seem to locate the spot to bolt in the receiver bracket???? The spot where I think it would go has a hole way too large for the 10mm bolt and it doesn't seem to be threaded.
Any advice from those of you who installed it would be very much appreciated!!
