13,000 miles and counting. I'm moving to California and decided to turn my cross-country drive into a 4 month expedition in my Element. I left KY in July and went to New England before heading west. The whole trip is documented on my website. I'm in Idaho now and heading towards southern Utah and northern Arizona. Any Element owners down that way want to get together to share Element stories over a cold brew? If so, reply via e-mai if possible as I check that more often than getting on the web.

You have a wonderful travelogue and it's making me green with envy.

By coincidence, I have a buddy who was on a road trip in the ND/WY/MT area at the same time you were. If you saw a purple Saturn coupe anywhere (sort of hard to hide!), that was him. One of his objectives was to walk the circumference of Devil's Tower on Halloween evening. He made it... despite not being fully equipped to deal with the snow. Oops.

One very minor nit - the thumbnails aren't thumbnails. They're the full-size picture, just reduced in size on the browser, so you have to download the whole shootin' match every time. This might be a limitation of the software you're using, so don't knock yourself out if you don't have an instant fix for it.

Again, great job.

I concur, excellent travellogue.

I enjoyed my browse, but had to stop looking around on the 256MB laptop because all of the pictures were causing windows 2k to swap-to-disk constantly. I'll try it on the 2GB desktop tonight. :)

Thanks for the kind words. As for the "thumbnails", yeah I know they're not actually thumbnails. I'm not using any software to create this website - just good ol HTML and some ColdFusion. I don't think I have any software that will batch process thumbnail creation across multiple directories. So, each page loads with a full copy of each pic making the pages load slowly (even on fast connections), but when you click on a pic, it's already cached.

Anyway, I'm at a rest stop in Utah in search of a safe place to sleep, so I must run.

Wow, that rocks!

<geek mode>When you return, well rested, let us know what you're using for connectivity on the road: standard dial up or something extra spiffy?</geek mode>

Near larger cities with good Sprint coverage, I get online (like the Utah rest stop) using my Sprint PCS phone connected to my laptop. Otherwise I rely on libraries (like here in Moab) or phone lines at campgrounds.

Neat. Almost went with sprint pcs, but the combination of higher rates and lack-of-bluetooth connectivity ended up putting me squarely in t-mobile's camp.

Great site and great pics and my oh my am I green with envy! My husband and I have been talking about taking three weeks off and going on a grand road trip, but your trip is amazing and wonderful and is about to make me quit my job, sell all my worldly possesions and hit the road in my E!

about to make me quit my job, sell all my worldly possesions and hit the road in my E!

Um, good thought - that is exactly what I did. Nearly everything I have left in this world is with me in my E save for a couple boxes of nice clothes I dumped at my friend's house. House-sold...furniture-sold...tv-that's gone, too...books, knicknacks, dishes - all gone. It will be an adventure starting over again. What brought this on? The big D. Here's hoping others have better reasons for taking similar treks.

Wonderful website. I just spent 30 minutes flipping through all of the pictures, especially the "welcome to" signs. Glad to see my state of VA was represented.
