: Who here is interested in TRUE performance?
qsilver074 11-10-2003, 04:53 PM Everyone here talks about this and that and nearly every thread in this forum is General Engine FAQ or General Maintenance...
Who here wants to make their box go faster? And I'm not saying Intake and Exhaust, I'm saying boost, high-compression, K20 heads, etc. I think we should split this forum into a "Go Fast Box" and a "General Engine Maintenance" forum.
elemantal 11-10-2003, 07:19 PM If mine was owned instead of leased I would seriously consider a Jackson Racing supercharger. I'm not kiddin'. This is a great vehicle and I think the four cylinder is the way to go, but a blower would be a gas.
MikeQBF 11-10-2003, 07:36 PM Sad to say, the answer from Jackson Racing is "probably not". I have a contact there from a prior project, and I asked. Their concern is that the real E demographic leans too much towards Baby Boomers, a market less likely to spend on heavy performance mods than the young males the E was supposed to appeal to. They're not confident they can sell enough to cover the engineering costs.
:(
failuretostop 11-10-2003, 07:50 PM If a forum like that actually happened, you would have even less traffic than this current forum.
marky 11-10-2003, 08:49 PM Why drop +20 grand to uptune what is basicaly a shoebox on wheels?

That's the age old question to ANY tuner. Why have I put well over $7,000.00 and counting into a del Sol worth $6,000.00? Because it's unique. Anyone can go buy, for the money, a car with as much horsepower... look at the AMG/M series from Mercedes and BMW, Honda's Type-R (in Japan, anyway), the domestics' SVT and SVO...
When you build a car from a base it is how you want it. The Element is a base car, and some people want to modify it.
Pimpn E 11-13-2003, 12:30 PM It may look like a shoebox but certainly doesn't handle like one. Yeah, I'd be interested, in fact it's my plan. It's a Honda, parts being universal is a major plus. There may never be any serious racing stuff available but I suspect more and more will become available in the next year or so. Sure the baby boomers ate this car up when it came out, but it's starting to catch on in the rice world. We're seeing 20's, custom paint, the request for performance bolt ons, etc.
I fully expect to see s/c's, cams, a full line of intakes, exhausts, heads, etc become available in the future. If not, we'll figure out how to utilize the stuff that's already out there for V-Tecs. I'm sure of it. It may never be an auto crosser, but I don't think a 250 hp E is out of the question.

Because we want to.
Hollowman 11-13-2003, 04:27 PM Give Rev Hard Manufacturing a call..They had a customer with a 5spd 2WD "E" get a turbo kit installed..Check them out..Their web addy is www.revhard.com.. We are probably going to get our company "E" turbocharged by Rev Hard..I will post info and pics as soon as we get it done (just probably not until after the holiday's)..We are also looking into the RSX head swap as well..Our company had also spoken to Jackson Racing about the supercharger but they said that they are not producing a kit..
Kakashi 11-13-2003, 05:36 PM I don't know if this is the same Element you are talking about with the rev hard kit but I pass one everyday on my way to and from class at school. Its black with gold 5zigen wheels, matched fenders and roof, some kind of bodykit front bumper, and a big ass smile due to the intercooler showing through the gap in the front bumper. The thing is that it has no roll call stickers or anything on the outside, totally low key. Infact I found this site while googling for turbo kits for the element. I think this ride has actually swayed me from the scion crowed over to here. How cool would it be to shoot up the mountain for a weekend of snowboarding in a turbo element! now all I have to do is save up my pennies...
Any idea of how much for the Turbo? and how does it affect the gas milage?
MikeQBF 11-13-2003, 06:23 PM Per the Rev Hard site, their streetable turbo kits for the other Hondas were $3600 and $4000. I didn't comb through the details for the difference. This is slightly high for turbo kits that I've seen for other 4-bangers, but not stratospheric.
Gas mileage will depend entirely on how often you press the loud pedal. I can almost guarantee that you will want to do it a lot.
MatT3T4 11-13-2003, 06:42 PM That's suggested retail. Rev Hard kits sell for much less. I sell Rev Hard kits, even though I got in trouble for selling a kit really cheap to one guy, so who knows how much longer I actually will...lol
harshfellow 11-13-2003, 08:50 PM I'd definately be interested in doing something like that to my E. It may get costly, but it's my only car and I'd like to make it my own instead of what they feed you from the factory.
Hammerli 11-14-2003, 07:59 AM Since I am getting rid of this for an Element, I need to help it out, as stock it feels anemic since this was 381 WHP.

qsilver074 11-14-2003, 09:32 AM Turned up the boost on the Evo?
MatT3T4 11-14-2003, 10:41 AM Hammerli, you are going to want to commit suicide if you do that. Don't get me wrong, the Element is dope as hell...but anyone with a car bug, like you, and I...dude, the Element is like driving a hearse. Now before all of the Ellie-freaks jump on me, this is coming from a performance car nut stance. I used to run around in a Civic that made Ferrari's weep, lots, and I miss it like it's a dead child. Think before you do it man...
Hammerli 11-14-2003, 12:26 PM [quote:2d0496458a=" "]Turned up the boost on the Evo?[/quote:2d0496458a]
A little more than that, new FMIC, intake plumbing, 3" turbo back exhaust, HKS cams, CAI, SAFCII, SBCIDIII w/powermeter, mini battery kit, ported o2 housing, thermal wrapped downpipe, custom turbo outlet pipe, walbro fuel pump, larger injectors, tuned for 100 octane unleaded at 21 psi 381 whp on a dynapack. 93 pump gas at 19 psi 329.5 whp on the dyno. High 11's in the quarter.
Once the pavement gets below 50 degrees, looking at the throttle funny causes the car to instantly go into a four wheel powerslide. Kind of fun for a while when you want to do a WRC impression, but not so fun to have to be very attentive and cautious all winter.
I see some people have mentioned a turbo kit for the Element, that might be just the ticket for me.
4dadogs 11-14-2003, 01:28 PM Since this hasn't been touched on yet, what about those of us who want to handle in this "box" without feeling like we're going to flip over! I know...I know... "if you want to handle, go buy a sportscar". Being the owner of two previous sports cars, I tend to push the limits on corners.... the limit just went down about 20 mph.
Does anyone have any antisway bars installed? I was considering lowering it a bit (I'm short), but then I'm hitting the debate of the functionality of the vehicle.... (much like carpet floor mats in the E.... )
Any tips, words, comments, flames?
MatT3T4 11-14-2003, 01:34 PM I lowered Ellie 2" and the lower stance does help in the corners a bit, much better than stock height. I need to fix the rear camber though, and it will be a bit better. But yeah, I'm hoping some companies bite...maybe Spoon....ahhh, how nice would that be if Spoon made some suspension components for us...
***I'm dreaming now***

I'm not sure if that is the one. the guy who is in charge of getting our "E" turbocharged is the one who talked to the guys at Rev-Hard and he told me about it. Their prices are a bit higher but their kits also put out a ton more power than most of the rest, but are still reliable. I am interested to see what that body kit looks like though. Could you snap some pics the next time you see it??
Steve_Beheler 11-19-2003, 08:55 PM I think it's only a matter of time before we start seeing SERIOUS performance mods done to the E.
Remember when the New Beetle came out? I worked for a VW tuner then and we had 4 of them. We thought it was the coolest thing to have a Beetle lowered with just wheels and nothing else done to it(Almost sounds like most E owners now:). In fact, we made the cover of VW Trends magazine with just those mods! Now options are ENDLESS for that vehicle. There are 350hp+ AWD Beetle's out there as daily drivers for some folks now. Motor swaps galore being done to the Beetle as well.
Motor swaps are already big in the Honda/Acura tuning world, so just give it time. I'm not versed enough with the Honda's yet to know what other Jap spec motor might fit the E that would provide more power, but I'm sure someone else could answer that question.
As far as true performance suspension systems, and not just spring changes, again, give it time. I'm sure Neuspeed will come out with a kit for this vehicle eventually. If not sway bars and other goodies, at least a matched set of proper lowering springs with the correct dampers(Bilstein or Koni possibly).
