: How about Nokian WRG2 SUV Tires
Dav2ison 10-19-2008, 10:28 AM I'm rapidly approaching the date when my stock GYs will be needing replacement. I've decided on the WR SUV tires but noticed on Nokian's site that this other model is available. Has anyone had experience with this model? I'd appreciated some feedback.http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=11955&group=2.02&name=Nokian+WRG2+SUV
Spam16v 10-19-2008, 12:39 PM fantastic tire, bit on the higher end of spectrum of pricing but a truly nice tire.
sarahp 10-19-2008, 02:03 PM Well I don't have any feedback, but I do have a confirmation of what you're saying. I was looking at getting the WR Suv's too... and from what I've heard from 2 different places now is that those are being discontinued, and the G2's are the replacement. They're quite a bit more though. I did get an awesome quote from Town Fair Tire on the WR's though.... $125 per tire. I haven't made a decision yet though.
E_BikeR 10-19-2008, 10:25 PM I'm probably no help here, but I just put Toyo Open Country H/T's on and I am VERY happy with them. They are quieter than the stock set, get much better traction in the corners <much better>, and seem to track very well in rutted pavement. I look forward to a decent snowstorm to further test these.
Best of luck finding the tire that meets your needs!
Dom.five 10-19-2008, 11:00 PM They are good on the street. I have spoken with another Element owner that has them on his. I did get a 2 mile ride with him on those tires. I was not driving, but they did feel good from the passenger seat.
He plans to try them on the track next month. I'm going to try to be there when he does. We have track time slated for the second week in November.
I will try to run for time against him. That will be a good indicator of how well they do against our WR SUVs. Although he does have an 07. That will give him 5 Hp over our 05.

sarahp 10-20-2008, 06:51 AM Hey eBiker... if you don't mind... how much did you pay for your Toyo's? I have Toyo's on my car and love them... never thought about putting them on the E!
Dav2ison 10-20-2008, 07:34 PM Sarahp: I also have a quote for the WR Suv, but it's a bit higher than yours. Were might I ask is the shop that gave you this 125 quote? Did that include mounting, balance and new stems?

No, it did not include the balancing and stems. It is $125 per tire plus $11.95 per tire to balance and $2.95 per stem. I got this quote from Town Fair Tire in Springfield, MA over the phone.
davidp 11-16-2008, 09:24 PM I just put on a set of Nokian WRG2 SUV 107H XL tires in 225/70 R16.
I live in the rainy Pacific Northwest in Vancouver, BC. We get some snow on the coast, but not as much as in the interior of the province or up in ski and snowboard country at Whistler.
These tires are beefier than the Wrangler HPs they replaced and give a very sturdy confident ride. We've had quite a bit of rain recently and the grip in corners, merging off and onto ramps, or while changing lanes is excellent.
Can't wait to see how they perform in the snow we get around here.
Dom.five 11-17-2008, 05:27 AM Well today is the day! We have track time for the test. I will place my E on the track as well! I will report back with the times. We will see how the Nokian WRG2 SUV 107H XL tires in 225/70 R16 does . It's dry and about 40 Deg. today with slight overcast.
Wish me luck.

Have fun Dom! I used to race and auto-x my Audi TT with the old Nokian WR's. I raced on on both the track, frozen lakes as well as parking lots. I used to win quite a few races on my "snow tires"... it pissed off many a competitor. lol
I love Nokian's! On my 2nd set on the E. Went through a set on the TT and bought a set for my Mom's car and she loves them too.
Spam16v 11-17-2008, 02:54 PM same ones on my g/f's TM, mine gets a set once the Destination LE's finally wear out in a year or two... lol.
Dom.five 11-17-2008, 03:34 PM Well after 3 runs each, there is no conclusive evidence that ether one is superior. The Nokians on our E have some 24 or 25 K on them. His newer version of the same tire only have 3k or less on them.
He has 5 Hp more than I do. The time difference was less than one second a lap. for the first 2 laps( he was faster ). I was .25 seconds faster the third lap.
It's a toss up.
But boy was it fun.

woosterpuss 11-17-2008, 07:20 PM where did you guys have track time?
biocube 11-17-2008, 07:30 PM davidp, how much are the new wrg2 tires? its time for me to replace my WR-suv's, and I was hoping to keep the cost 'reasonable' (i paid $600 for the WRs out the door)
Dom.five 11-18-2008, 03:07 AM where did you guys have track time?
It's a privet club track in Sterling. It is most used by the mustang club. It's hard to get the track on weekends do to the fact the pony cars eat all the time.
We get to sneak in from time to time between there staged events.
The pony club is based in Watertown/ Melrose area. Those boys spend some big money trying to go faster than the next man. Keep in mind they pay for the track time. There is no money for winning. So everything is out of pocket. Those things use up parts/tires fast. That to say nothing about the fuel they eat. They can go through a tank in just over 1 1/4 hours. It's Hightest !!

woosterpuss 11-18-2008, 08:04 PM The pony club is based in Watertown/Melrose area...
that be my 'hood. well, watertown anyway.
unfortunately, the only person i know with a mustang is my 70+ yr old neighbor and hers is stock with a six cylinder engine
i will have to ask her anyway
Dav2ison 11-23-2008, 07:50 AM BioCube:I haven't actually priced the new version. I did get an out the door price including balance and stems at $141 each. Going to the Nokian site, I noticed the new version. I'll contact the same shop and see how they compare price wise.
biocube 11-23-2008, 01:09 PM thanks for the info

it's easy, i call the wholesaler, they deliver, and i saddle up and put them on myself. ;) the rest of what you're paying is labor, mark-up and taxes.
Dav2ison 11-24-2008, 06:19 PM Premier tire quoted WRG2 $134ea mounted balanced and out the door for the stock size. the WR is no longer available. This is a lower price than the WR I was quoted earlier in the year.
RobfromLI 04-03-2009, 12:58 PM holy s on the price of 300.00 for wr g2 suv's

if you can direct me to a phone number, order form or website with that price... and i can order a set at that price... well i don't have much to offer.
i'd really like a shot at that price. that would save me a ton of coin. i have mount, and balance set up for free already.
i am ordering tonight, or tomorrow.
thanks for any help.

RobfromLI 04-03-2009, 07:36 PM tried to revive a 5 month old thread..
oh well
anyone have a good deal on nokian wr suv's or the g2s?
the old lady is gonna puke when she sees the bill for the things.
heh heh...
i think i'll order them now!!!
Twilightzero 04-03-2009, 10:17 PM Best I can tell you is look up the nearest Nokian dealer to you and see what kind of a deal they can cut. When I got my WR-SUV's that's what I did and it ended up being the best deal I'd seen.
Dav2ison 04-04-2009, 10:41 AM May is the month when I purchase the new set of Nokian's I'm convinced whatever the cost they are the way to go. I have to say the OEM GY's still have a good amount of tread at 36K. They are starting to vibrate a bit, maybe lost some balance or one has a broken belt. I really can't complain about them. But I'm really looking forword to having a superior set of tires for a change.
Twilightzero 04-04-2009, 01:26 PM Well I'm quite positive you'll be satisfied with the WR-G2's, especially after the Badyear Stranglers
Spam16v 04-04-2009, 01:45 PM that was my wholesale cost as i run a shop.
EcoHolic 06-22-2009, 01:29 PM There is only 1 dealer (distributor) for my state. He quoted me $140 per tire, for 215/70/16, saying that was wholesale/distributor cost. And, he'd have to order and have dropped shipped from manufacturer.
However, Tire_Savings.com lists them for $117 and claims that they don't sell "seconds".
That is a big difference in price! -- especially wholesale v. retail. Is it too good to be true?
Anyone have any experience with that online retailer? (They are not listed on Nokian's website as dealer.) Wonder if Nokian would warranty tires if not from an "authorized" reseller.
EcoHolic
Twilightzero 06-22-2009, 01:33 PM The line from the dealer sounds fishy, there's no reason at all he would need to have them drop shipped from Finland. Sounds like he's just trying to justify his price to you.
I don't have any experience with tire-savings.com, have you contacted their sales people and asked them about it? That's definitely a VERY good price on them, what'll shipping run you?
EcoHolic 06-22-2009, 02:39 PM (The local wholesaler/distributor would have them drop shipped from Nokian's USA warehouse.)
I did speak to Tire Savings.com and asked them, no offense meant, why their price would be so much less. The sales rep really couldn't say, but said that they do not sell any seconds. Shipping to me (NE to SE) would be $78.00.
Probably a good idea to ask about the manufactured date of the tires, as the warranty is based off of the manufacture date or purchase date whichever is _soonest_.
I have since spoken to a few other ("authorized") dealers. Two said that they doubted any seller would have blemished tires.
Next best price that I received was from wholesaler Import Tire of Hartford, CT, for $124.47 each. (Shipping $60.)
Dav2ison 06-23-2009, 05:16 AM Just installed a set of 4 WRG2. They ride smoother, and are less noisy than my OEM GY. They have a wear rating of 500. should last a long time.
Thanks to this thread I now have four new WRG2s on my '07 EX. Got them from Harding Tire in Worcester, MA for $139 each installed mounted and balanced. My OEM GYs were almost bald at just over 40K. The Nokians felt nice out of the gate in the rain, very stable and quiet at highway speeds. Can't wait to see how they perform on dry roads and winter driving.
Harding Tire (http://hardingtire.googlepages.com/home) is a small family owned business that's been around for over 80 years. No affiliation, just a happy new customer.

The WRG2's will be my next set. I'm currently on the WR-SUV's and they're great in anything, if the WRG2's are better I'll be in heaven :D
