i have an alpine 9884/w full ipod control, connected to an amp, connected to a sub... etc...

anyways, here is the problem

if i connect:

(Power Antenna(metra 70-1721)) + (Power Antenna (headunit harness))

and

(Remote turn on(remote from AMP)) + Remote turn on ((headunit harness))

= ipod, sub/amp do not work

if i connect: basically switch the first scenario...

(Power Antenna(metra 70-1721)) + Remote turn on ((headunit harness))

and

(Remote turn on(remote from AMP)) + (Power Antenna (headunit harness))

=ipod work, sub still dont work

i have checked all wires ground etc fuses, cants seem to find the problem...
Obviously, if I use the second scenario, the stand by light comes on the amp only when switched to tuner mode considering its the power antenna being used to the AMP

the amps stand by light comes on the first scenario, will not fully power on , and it does not make sense why the ipod would not work???

Im trying to be clear as possible, any input would be appreciated, please ask questions so i may clarify

Hook it back up correctly (first scenario) except leave the amp disconnected, then try the Ipod. If the Ipod works then the amp turn-on circuit is acting screwy.

What kind of amp is it?
Are any of the switches on the bottom of the radio flipped? They should be set to "Norm".
Is the sub turned on in the audio menu? (Pg 14 of the manual)
Is the "Aux" turned off in the Ipod setup menu? (page 18)

its an older xtant amp, not sure what model, it was given to me used

but anyways, yea, i checked all the settings on HU and amp, ipod is working now, i just connected both remote from amp and power antenna to the remote out from the alpine harness, amp stays in stand by mode(red light) and yet the sub hits to the music really really softly, but enough that you can tell its really getting a signal and not just resonating from the other speakers in the car.

When it was in my other car, a green light on the amp would come on and the sub would hit like crazy, i'm now thinking it might be bad RCA's, but i;m gonna get my friends amp, hook it up and see what happens

THANKs!

so yea, stupid mistakes

the power antenna on the metra 70-1721 is actually connecting to a remote turn on for the element's own amp.(this had been mentioned in a sticky that i overlooked.)

considering I am adding the sub amp and there is only one remote out of the head unit, i just put the remote of the HU to the remote of my sub amp, and then i took another wire, and ran it from the remote terminal of the sub amp to the remote wire for the elements internal amp.

meaning, this setup is good for anyone wanting to use the elements internal amp/speakers(i have EX radio, still lost the sub), and adding another amp to power an external sub.

this explains why the ipod and cd player would not work in scenario one, because in actuality, the power antenna connecting to the power antenna to the metra will only power the integrated amp in tuner mode because its actually a remote line and not a power antenna.

confused yet? its not that hard, but such a stupid error due to mislabeling on the metra harness.

so i learned how to connect two amps( one being the elements) to one remote, it also helped that i was reminded to check the settings on my HU, there was a specific setting that made the sub work, and no it was not the on off setting:)
