08 AWD EX w/factory rims. Winter is coming and I'm looking for a all-season tire something a little heavy duty then the OEM's. I'm looking to spend up to $600 for all four plus mounting of course.
Thanks.

there is just "SO MUCH GOBS OF INFO" I hate it.

thats one of the reason I don't care about fancy wheels etc.

But I do want to get some nice wheels and tires.

what would do good on my 06 LX?

I am just assuming you get a tire 1 size wider right? that is for better driving?

what does everyone recommend???

If you see a lot of snow in your area and the roads sometimes have packed snow on them, look into Blizzak (sp) tires. Dedicated snow tires will be your best bet.

You could also just get some regular all season radials and have them siped (grooves cut into the tread) to help grab a bit better. They won't be quite as grabby as snow tires but will wear a lot better and have more grip that your regular "summer tires".

Also take a look around online. There were some places a few years back that actually sold "winter setups" that were complete with winter tires mounted to steel rims. No having to dismount and mount tires. Kind of nice.

Go buy the latest issue of Consumer Reports. They have a tire review article for All-Season and All-Terrain tires. Nice chart to compare traction in different conditions, noise, tread wear, etc... Out here in sunny SoCal, Sam's Club has the Goodyear Forterra Triple-Treads for a great price and only charges $9.50 per tire for the works, including lifetime free flat repair and tire re-balance & rotation. Check it out. ;-)

i put the Goodyear Fortera Triple Treds on, stock size. So far, I like them. Good on the highway and in the rain. I'll give a snow report this winter.

I just put a set of Yokohama Geolander HTS on my wife's E. I have been running a set of them on my E for about 1 year now. The ride is good, noise is fair, and the wear is much better than the stock Wranglers.

I checked into the Nokians, but I could not find a dealer locally and they were too expensive to order online.

We not get any snow here in the Atlanta metro area, except on a rare occasion.

When that happens we all just stay home anyway.

P.S. I had four Yokahamas installed for 495.00 out the door.

I recommend getting Goodyear Wrangler HPs. Nice tires run great on the Element.

I REALLY hope the above comment is a joke. Seriously- Wrangler HP's- well other than being black and holding air, are not tires for the E.

i just put a set of these on my o6 and i love them so far.great in the rain and the noise level is slightly higher than the hp's given the more aggresive design.i'll post pics of them on the e when i get a chance today.they also look really good because they have a nice sidewall.yes looks are important on tires to me.

Hmmmm.... the EOC boasts 28,710 members. Of that less than 100 have complained about the Wrangler HPs. That means 28,610 EOC members have no complaint.

I just had BFG Long Trail TA Touring tires installed this morning. I went up to a 225/70/16 and could not be happier. They look great, ride great and handle great. And... they didn't cost an arm and a leg.

BF Goodrich Long trails are on one of my Elements. Very reasonable price $450/4 installed at Costco. Nice ride. Our other element has Michelin LTX's on it, these handle great in the snow. Cost of Michelins at Costco was $750.
Would recommend either.

they're hercules terra trac a/t in oem size.they're comparable to bridgestone duelers but for alot less, the tread pattern is almost identical.

Um, that's not exactly what that means. I haven't had time to read every thread on the E forum, so there are probably a lot of things I haven't gotten around to complaining about yet. I must say, I think the stock Wranglers are cr*p. I am looking at replacing mine after only 30k miles. Not good.

Does anyone know a good replacement tire--> Something possibly rated in the 60k to 80k mile life range ?
Saw an element the other day with Goodyear Fortera's on it which looked nice, however most of the Fortera reviews on here were not too kind.

Would like to spend at most $450-500 total (mounted and balanced).

I just replaced the worn stock tires on my 06 with Toyo's Same, original size in an Open Country H/T. They are totally highway tires, but quieter than the stock tires were, and MUCH better in the corners. Today, lots of rain and standing water on the road, they did VERY well. So far so good with these!

They are manufactured in Japan.

Mounted and balanced, right at $500 USD

fwiw.

I replaced my Goodyears back in August with the Firestone Winterforces, I like them so far, no snow yet to test them. Got em for 64 bucks a piece at Tirerack.com!

I have Toyo Open Country H/T's and Michelin Latitude Ices for the Winter.

Blizzaks dont have the dry and wet weather handing of the Michelin. They work are almost the equal of Michelin's on snow, hard pack snow and ice.
Blizzaks dont cut through slush like Michelins.

Winterforce is Firestone's version of the Blizzak and is built I beleive of Blizzak rejects carcasses. Look at the price difference

How much did you pay for the Hercules Terra Trac's?
My dealer wants $398 including tax for 4 installed and balanced and old ones disposed of.
