I am old enough to remember when front wheel drive first became popular and how everybody raved about how good it was in snow. There was no paranoia of having to have 4wd because 2wd really was good. I have never been stuck in the snow with my other cars and I never have had 4wd. So why does everybody think they need it? Please don't rave about how good your 4wd is I want to hear from people with 2wd.

Not that you need anyone's else's blessing, but having had both front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive (in various iterations), if you're used to front-wheel-drive, you'll be just fine. It's really as simple as that, but just wait for all the know-it-all's to tell you how full of it I am. Go ahead, watch......

I've driven everything from RWD - FWD to 4WD in the snow. Anyone who feels they need 4WD to drive in the snow, probably shouldn't be driving. I've never gotten stuck in the snow. Now I know everyone's gonna say, "But you live in Georgia!" but I'm from Canada and used to live in Ct. So I know a thing or two about snow. RWD is a lot more fun in the snow, but FWD is more controllable. 4WD makes you believe you are on dry pavement. Until it's time to apply some brakeage.

In an ideal world you wouldn't need anything but FWD in foul weather conditions. This ideal world would include city and state governments that actually plow the roads. If they are really nice they might even sand or salt the roads so we get some traction on that black ice they make us believe is asphalt.

Living in my home for many years I realize New York state is not the ideal world. If it were then I surely would not have to commute to Western New York for the holidays to visit my inlaws and pit my skills against the wonders that is lake effect snow. If only FWD was enough and the powers that be realize I signed up for the ideal world, my wife and I would not be caught in a blizzard on Christmas day last year. A blizzard that left snow drifts measured in feet, visibility measures in inches and black ice in centimeters. A curving on ramp with these most excellent attributes would surely not pose a challenge for the most skilled drivers amongst us. Considering the total serenity of the beautiful snowfall and the air horn of the redneck in the 4x4 behind me. In my ideal world he would have helped me and instead of sharing his complete collection of the pre-pubescent vulgarity. Needless to say, I pushed, I got drenched, and I got stuck at in-laws for yet another wonderful Christmas.

If only I lived in your ideal world.

Yeah, in my world we have common sense and good judgement and we all run around naked all the time! You'd like it.

I'll give Silk HUGE credit for remaining eloquent in the "real" circumstances!

In our brand new E we drove thru a blizzard, driving from my wife's parents farm at night. It was quite hair raising as we did'nt know the feel of the thing on dry roads! Being used to a Civic, it was awesome riding up high out of the glare of on coming vehicles. We would have turned back if we were still in the Civic. As far as E's front wheel drive in the snow, I give it 2 thumbs up! We had alot of snow and the E handles great! As a matter of fact I just drove through crappy conditions to our dealer to complain about our windshield crack, but thats another story.

Love the Element!!!

My 2 cents.

FWD is fine for snow. If you take it easy. RWD is just plain dangerous. 4WD is not much better than FWD especially because it generally makes you ****y and you end up wrecking because your driving to fast.

Oh and Element FWD is fine if you dont use the ****ty stock tires.
