ok, so a few years ago, while I was still working at best buy, we bought a 60inch HD ready sony TV... however, HD boxes were about $1000 3 years ago and there really wasn't much programming.

Today, I have finally stepped into the world of HD.

My god the difference is AMAZING!

I recommend anyone with an HD-Ready TV set to go get a converter box NOW!!!!

aloha shen,
I agree,, I got an RCA with the built in converter and the picture is unreal. Widescreen is also nice these days with all the movies coming out that way

HDTV is High Definition TV... up to 6 times the resolution and sharpness of regular TV.

Dive... I'm still surprised at the lack of HD programming though... only PBS is 24/7 HD!

PBS runs the same loop over and over. Try VOOM the new satellite service that has like 39 HD channels. HD is great - you can see all the makeup that the women wear - wow.

I think the FCC wants all TV broadcasts to be digital by 2006 I think and that HD is optional. I've also heard that the Discovery channel broadcasts in HD. TechTV won't be shown in HD anytime soon because they say that the pores on Leo's face would horrify everyone. If you watch TechTV you'll probably have heard them talking about that.

The techtv guys spread a lot of disinformation about HD. Digital does not necessarily mean HD. Stations are using subchannels to broadcast ED (extended definition 480 progressive) rather than HD, for instance, FOX. My local PBS station has 5 digital channels, none of which are HD. There's plenty of HD available for free over the air, such as CSI, Monday Night Football, SEC football, the NCAA Basketball Final Four, The Oscars, etc.

Tragically, the Victoria's Secret show will not be broadcast in HD

I bought a 32" Sony last December and I thought my cable company Adelphia would of made HDTV available by now but they haven't and surrounding area companies (Comcast) have HDTV available. It really pisses me off. I have thought about just buying the converter box but they are still $300-800. I did buy a progressive DVD player and that is night and day. I wish it had a DVI hook up but it doesn't and I wasn't willing to throw down $1000-2000 for a DVD player when you can get a good one for $100.

Overall I am happy with my TV. I couldn't get a larger one because my room isn't that big and I didn't have the money. I hope Adelphia offers it before the Superbowl and March Madness.

One other thing Adelphia is on the verge of bankruptcy so I am hoping Comcast will buy them out. People complain about comcast but they have no idea about Adelphia.

I thought about going with the Dish but you still need to buy the convertor box and I need to pay extra for local channels.

My fingers are crossed that Adelphia will come through or someone will buy them out.
