wolf8278 11-16-2008, 07:25 PM I'm glad to see such a great turnout. Carrie and I missed seeing everyone this month.
bh241 11-16-2008, 08:08 PM We missed you guys, hope the wedding planning, buying of frilly stuff and what nots were productive. :)
It was overall a great event, weather was a tad dicey Friday night, but decent the rest of the time.
We had a good turnout, great food in typical abundance, and above all fantastic E-ple to spend the weekend with. There were a few that dropped in on us on Saturday and it was a pleasure for me personally to talk with a former Scout leader and exchange a few stories. It's always an honor to have an Eagle Scout in one's presence and then being lucky enough to spend time with another Woodbadger... even if he was a Fox. ;-) I used to be a bobwhite and a Good 'ol bobwhiite too...
And now I'm finished bobwhiting... I don't I don't know what to do...
I'm growing old and feeble and I can bobwhite no more...
So I am going to work my ticket if I can...
Back to Gilwell.. Happy Land..

jkiz4 11-16-2008, 09:39 PM Great pics Benny! We had a great time, with Great E-ple. We really enjoyed meeting the new faces, most were, considering this was only our 2nd outing. Already looking forward to the next trip. We are also looking for other sleeping arrangements(possibly something we don't need a buoyancy rating on). The food was out of this world. I think we added a few pounds, which could be a good thing considering the extra insulation we needed this morning! Had a good trip back home, and more beautiful scenery on the way back with the snow caps on the other side of Asheville.
kissya 11-16-2008, 11:28 PM Benny, I'm so glad you and Court had cameras.....that was another thing I forgot.....was my camera.

Very nice pics. Love to see the E amongst all the colorful leaves. And the pup snoozing...well it's simply the cutest! :D
Man I just love looking at all those fall leaves, it must have really been beautiful. Oh and I love looking at food pictures too:oops:
UP&ATOM 11-17-2008, 01:56 PM Well the leaves were almost gone from the trees after Friday night's "Big Storm"....but the ribs, well, they live on...we still have a rack in the fridge. I'm already looking forward to dinner tonight!
Kat and I spent most of today drying out the tent and some of the camp bedding - that was one heck of a palmetto-pounder Saturday night.

bh241 11-18-2008, 08:16 AM Jamie - love the video's! post more!
Mel - I missed the pineapple cake, and the brownies too...
Court - I re-sized them to no larger than 800x600 and use photobucket (http://photobucket.com/) to host the pictures. It works, sometimes I wish I could have easy access to larger resolution pictures tough.
While on the topic, anyone who wants a larger resolution picture of any I've posted send me a pm or an email.
Deb - I'll remember this one for a while too, actually not unlike the others. I do hate that the weather kept us from having our bolo championship. Maybe next time.

I took Boomer home early Saturday morning. I had right at 3" of water in my tent (because I didn't put it up correctly) from the storm on Friday night. It was a total mess that I really needed to deal with. I just felt Boomer would be better off staying home with my wife and the other pups.
The only pictures anyone has of Boomer at this trip would have been made Friday or very early on Saturday.

If I didn't have 4 dogs and a cat......I'd have a Saint or 2....lol.
You need to come to the next camping meet to experience them first hand..
It's going to be late March....Tybee island, Ga...watch for the thread.
Oh...the ribs were yummy......"finger licken good":D
Laceymack61 11-25-2008, 02:25 PM Denny's still checking on places in GA - The campground at Tybee Island is City owned, and they apparently aren't as dog friendly as we want them to be. Also, they don't allow dogs on the beach (another PITA) - so I'm not sure what we're going to be doing as yet for the End of March camping trip. I still wish we could all go to Savannah, but maybe we will have to do it somewhere other than Tybee Island?
I'll keep Denny (FIRE ELF/HOGSQUEAL) on track, if possible.
 Kissya, I'm saying nothing about the finger lickin good ribs....LOL (SNORT)
I'm ready for another camping trip AND SOON!!!

bh241 11-25-2008, 02:37 PM Just be glad we went to Kings Mountain when we did... last Saturday morning the temperature was 13 degrees...
yes, I said that right, 13 degrees. Balmy huh?
We'll find a place to go, didn't Jamie say something about a place on the beach we could camp with the dogs???
UP&ATOM 11-25-2008, 07:42 PM We'd love to host a camping event down here at the beach!
Couple places jump right out for us:
Carolina Beach State Park - about 30 minutes south of Wilmington, N.C. - Right on the Cape Fear River, you can walk the banks of the river or take a very short car ride over to the beach. March is great, April starts to get a little buggy. NC state parks are as pet-friendly as SC - standard six foot leash requirement.
Official Site:
http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/cabe/main.php
Insider's Guide:
http://www.insiders.com/wilmington/main-camping3.htm
We're also HUGE fans of the Croatan National Forest camps up near New Bern. Lots of cool semi-off road driving (Element friendly driving in the wilderness) Located just outside historic New Bern, N.C. - maybe 90 mins north of Wilmington -convenient to US 64. Cedar Point campground is on the intracoastal waterway side, and the Neuse River site is another great car-camping site located on the river. Again, pet friendly and we give both sites thumbs up for our style of camping.
Official Site:
http://ncnatural.com/NCUSFS/Croatan/
Great PDF of coastal forest locations:
http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/crouwhcamp.pdf
Now, in South Carolina, there's Huntington Beach State Park, half way between Charleston and Myrtle Beach, S.C
Official Site: http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/park-finder/state-park/1020.aspx
Couple other contenders for you mountain folk: If you guys liked the last South Carolina campground site, we'd also suggest the Uwharrie National Forest, just east of Charlotte and north of Rockingham, N.C. Great car camping sites at Arrowhead Campground (first choice) and the Baden Lake Group Camp.
Official Site: http://ncnatural.com/NCUSFS/Uwharrie/camping.html
That's far more info than you probably wanted, but we're thrilled you're even considering a trip over to the coast. Anything we can do to assist, just let Kat and I know!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Jamie
UP&ATOM 11-25-2008, 07:51 PM Kat said I forgot to mention - we re-heated a rack of HogSqueal's ribs the other night for dinner. (Steamed them in a double boiler, like we do all of our chopped bbq and tasty ribs down here at the beach)
Talk about your culinary flashback! They were still just as tender and smokey as they were the night we hunkered over the fire and dove into them - minus the terrifying thunder and lightning, of course.
Just thought I'd share that moment. What? You didn't take a rack of leftover ribs home from the camping trip? :???:
Golly. What a shame.

Jamie
I for one say go for it. Set something up and we'll be there.
Most of the guys kinna like the water / electricity thing... just ask them about Linville Falls... NO, wait, on second thought... :D
To me as long as the dogs can come, I'm good. Power and Water would be a plus, but not mandatory.
I'm game for a March Beach Trip. :)
phil/debbie 11-25-2008, 08:22 PM Just wanted to wish all a happy thanksgiving and thank you all for the nice time we had meeting and talking with everyone at Kings Mountain campout. You all are a fun group to be around and we really enjoyed it. Thanks again.
bh241 11-26-2008, 06:53 AM It was great to meet you too. I hope you'll be around the area for some more events. Check in with us if you can.

dog drool 11-26-2008, 09:00 AM Without electric there will not be eggs benadict.
I need to think about sam on the beach. he already bring the great out doors in hidden in his fur. there may not be any sand left on the beach:-o
UP&ATOM 11-26-2008, 02:57 PM Without electric there will not be eggs benadict.
Well that's simply not going to happen Mel! If you think for a split second I'm going to pass on your breakfast speciality, you're badly mistaken - we're not savages for pity sakes!
:-D
Dog-friendly, electricity, water and toilets are bare minimums for this crew - and Kat and I have no problem with that! We won't steer you guys wrong.
We'll take a look at travel times to New Bern and Carolina Beach for hosting a possible early March '09 camping event. My first inclination is New Bern -specifically the Neuse River/Flanners Beach campground- since it's so easy to access for folks coming from the north and west.
Carolina Beach isn't difficult to get to, it's simply at the end of everything - end of I-40, end of US 421 - basically, the end of North Carolina. And beach access isn't quite as easy as New Bern - along the Neuse River site, you're less than 20 yards from a lovely, white sand 300- yard long beach.
Take a peek at the links on my earlier post for the Croatan Forest - Here's an even newer brochure for the Neuse River Campground (aka Flanners Beach) http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/croatan_brochure.pdf
Kat and I will start making some calls after the holidays and see what we can come up with.

bh241 11-26-2008, 07:53 PM Guys, we need to start a new thread for the 'Beach Blast' or 'Coastal Dog Weekend' or whatever we're gonna call it.
Think of all the fun we can have just coming up with a name for it. :)
Then we gotta figure out where, and when.... :-P
Hey dog drool, if it's a problem, I have a small shop-vac I can bring to clean the tents, trailers, and E's out. The big dogs do tend to bring a lot in with them.
wolf8278 11-27-2008, 01:57 AM I still hate that we missed this trip, but I think we had a good reason. :D

I still say an E-ple wedding would have worked...
Imagine the food at the reception....
ribs, slaw, chili, you would have been the talk of all the wedding planners... :-o
(you guys make a nice looking couple)

That would have been a sight.... all those E's around that nice looking couple. O well, next time.:-P Maybe when they celebrate their 50th. Now that would be the bomb. Should we start planning now?:-o:razz:
UP&ATOM 11-30-2008, 09:57 AM I still think a Twenty One Horn Salute would have worked!
And surely one of those nice Forest Rangers could have read the last rights, errr, wedding vows. :-P
I'm thinking their first wedding anniversary would make for another nice camping meet. A year will pass by before you know it!

Am I missing something. I can't find it.:D
UP&ATOM 12-06-2008, 01:43 PM Am I missing something. I can't find it.:D
Nope, not missing a thing - Kat and I have both been battling the flu and creepin' crud that's been going around Wilmington - promise to have something up within the next week, maybe sooner.
I was going to offer up some camping suggestions for spots along the NC/SC coast that Kat and I are familiar with- of course, we're open to any other suggestions as well!
:)
