There is a guy on cardomian.cm (sp) that installed a back up camera and mounted the screen in the visor. Very cool.

yeah, i saw that as well, and while i would love that, it is a little more involved than i wanted to get

Are you looking at those that have been on ebay recently for about $40? I've been wondering about them too. (I still leave too much space when I'm backing my E into a spot.)

foxtail,

that is exactly what i am talking about. i was checking out element items on ebay last night and i saw that backup sensor kit...looks almost too good to be true.

I've been thinking seriously about getting some.

Do you know how hard it will be to wire them into the back-up lights? That's the only thing I was worried about. Has anyone done something similar?

the part i was worried about was drilling into the bumper...that makes me nervous. they have a stick on version, but i am not sure how well they will hold up (after a few years). the wiring part seems straight forward enough, but i could be wrong about that.

Oh, I didn't read that. Hmmm, I think it would be like drilling into a body part to drill into my E.

Years ago they used to sell these self sticking rear window convex pieces of plastic that van owners used to put on the rear window...I have not seen the being sold anywhere but I bet it would be a good thing WE can add to our E's....

Okay first of all stay away from the ebay back up sensors. I have been an installer for about 7 years and I haven't heard of a good sensor for less than $150 retail (70-75 cost) I have put the Dolphin in my E (sorry no pics) and it waasn't too bad. You do have to drill the bumper and remove the tailights to trigger the system. The "eyes" on mine are small and blend into the bumper pretty well. I have dark tint on my E and it helps when backing up at night especially. I ran the wires for the system under the truck and wire loomed to the under carriage the wires for the sounder and power. I brought the sounder wire in under the center console and placed it under the driverseat. I then ran the lead for power to the battery with a fuse. I would recommend the dolphin to anyone who wants an add-on back up sensor.

i have one on my van, am thinking of putting one on the E, but first -- does anyone have experirnce putting it on glass with defrost-coil? will the coil harm the plastic lens, or vice versa will the lens and water application harm the defroster?

I'm confident that anyone could learn to back their E up as far as needed, just, practice a little or something. It's never a problem. Use your mirrors if you have to, get close
