What is it with this whackjob Ontario weather?

I mean, Mother Nature dumps on us so we get all stoked. Then she gives us "snow balls" (the winter enthusiast's version of blue balls) by melting most of it the next day .

I have friends who live out west in Calgary and they say that -40 out there is very cold but for some reason they say it is a dry cold which doesn't feel near as bad as the "damp" cold here in southern/southwestern Ontario. When it's -15 here they're literally convulsing from shivering so bad yet they'll say how they've run out to get something from their car in shorts, t-shirt and boots out in Calgary when it's -40 there

Here is a picture of my place up north in wisconsin . The guy I have plow my drive got stuck and was towed out ,but I did not know that.It looked plowed until I got back there and got stuck. Had to have my farmer neighbor use his tractor tow me out ,then use his front end loader finish plowing so I could get back to the house.

Have they TRIED scraping off the top of an Element when it's freezing out and you can barely reach the dang middle with your brush?

:confused:I with you on that one but apparently it's something like a $250 fine. A guy in my class was telling me a relative of his was stopped by the police and given a warning for leaving the snow on his roof.

It's like in Quebec where between a certain time frame you MUST have snow tires...and they must have the snowflake in the mountain symbol on the sidewall meaning it is approved for severe snow conditions.

I see their point on both counts from a safety standpoint because I don't know how many times in this last week or so of poop weather I've seen people driving down the road in a car that has obviously been cold started and driven away after only a few minutes of being run because it looks like they scraped nothing more than a tank-slot opening on their window:rolleyes:.

I got one of these when I first got my E. Works great.

http://www.toyotapartsstore.com/images/28-1218_blue_snowbrush.jpgI was thinking about getting one of them but the store I went to was all sold out of the telescoping ones that have the soft bristles. All the ones on the shelf had the hard plastic brushes and I'm not sanding down my Element in the morning every time it snows .

I have lost count at the number of time i have seen snow slide off the roof and onto the windshield minivans and other cars when a driver hits the brakes.....I think it's funny actually because I make it a point to steer quite clear of those vehicles:smile:.

For those of you that think the weather in Oregon is always mild. This is 12-21-08 in the Salem Oregon. 6 to 8 inches of snow with 1/2 of freezing rain on top of that....YIKES

There was a notice on Oregon DOT, that Portland Metroarea was requiring chains on all vehicles.

In the Seattle area, there were about 4 inches of new snow on top of the old packed stuff. Cars were moving, at least on main streets. Not as cold as the previous morning (which was 7 deg in snow on the Element's roof).

So here in western Washington we're not used to this much snow. Everyone is freaking out and driving around at 15 MPH in 4wd with chains on even on dry pavement. We don't even have stud tires on our E and the AWD takes care of us just fine. We easily cruise around at 30 MPH without any slippage.

This is last night.

http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo87/kcvolz1986/1220082324.jpg

Then this morning.

http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo87/kcvolz1986/1221081040.jpg

We got 11 inches then decided to head for my parents who have a generator. This is from the drive over.

http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo87/kcvolz1986/1221081442.jpg

http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo87/kcvolz1986/1221081444.jpg

We kinda dug ourselves in turning around like a top. Right up to the axels and the E still pulled out no problem.

http://i364.photobucket.com/albums/oo87/kcvolz1986/1221081444a.jpg

Maybe I should do this...

Thanks man :). I love how it looks and I'm going to keep the blacked-out theme going with it.

Honda has a blowout right now on various older Element accessories and since I get staff pricing (cost + 10%) on anything I buy from work, I was able to pick up an OEM NBP painted rear upper spoiler for $130!!!!!!. I installed it yesterday and I love how it adds some styling to the back of the E.

To keep the dark theme going, I ordered an SC black "Element" badge today and it should be in tomorrow morning.

All that's left is to install is a set of the black Grillcraft front upper and lower grilles, a set of '07 black-housing headlights and I'll be completely stealth :D

Nice! Looking at H&A I noticed that you could put a black bumper garnish on the rear: http://www.handa-accessories.com/elementext.html it is quite a way down this page. I did not see the front garnish listed there, but I am sure you can find it. These pure black garnishes came on the 2006 models for sure, but not sure about other years. Should fit, and might help add another level of "stealthiness"

I think you have darker panels than this one.Mine has the grayish coloured ones. My rear bumper garnish is the light silvery gray so that black would look good. I'll prob price it out at work and see how much it is.

LOL or I could always do the old switcheroo with a car on the lot at work :-P

Nonono! I use ONR, so it only took me six gallons yesterday to wash it. A typical wash would've taken me about 200 gallons of water! If it weren't so filthy, it would only require three gallons of water.

(First two as I found it, the last one after some considerable clean-up.) :)

i've been avoiding snow drives this winter..... prob because the moment i drive out onto the main street and i see several cars spun off immediately.... for those outside of toronto, you have to understand we have a lot of newly licsenced drivers in my area trying to act like a snow day is another day of driving in a big city! so not many snow pics around for me.....

I had to drive through Toronto to get to the 400 North (went to Blue) and I was swiftly reminded why I don't miss Toronto now that I'm back in Chatham.

I was in the GTA on Friday night til Sat at lunchtime and I stayed at my friend's house who lives on Lauder Ave just off St Clair West and the side streets were a nightmare. One lane plowed out, snow piles higher than the hood on my Element, almost NO parking whatsoever :|

I actually didn't get drunk at all. I had a good buzz (drank about four Smirnoff Ice over the course of 3 hrs) but that was about it. We closed the bar tho and hung out for a few pics with the band and my teacher after.

My grad ceremony for Honda School in on March 27th and I'd like to stay in the GTA for the weekend so maybe we can plan a coffee meet for then.

I'm from Southern Ontario and remember days when you couldn't have exposed skin for more than 10 seconds without getting frost-bite... we still had school. My kids are off today because it's snowing 2-6 inches here in Maryland! My son is playing road hockey in the snow and loving it... I am trying to wiggle out of work to join him soon!

My kids are off today because it's snowing 2-6 inches here in Maryland! My son is playing road hockey in the snow and loving it... I am trying to wiggle out of work to join him soon!No doubt eh? OMG it's nuts now. Where I live, people start going ape**** when there's 4-6" on the ground and they cry about road conditions. I won't even go into how the cancellations start rolling in when the skies gray over and the white stuff starts coming done heavy .

Meanwhile, I was in Blue Mtn snowboarding last weekend for my birthday and they have more snow than I've ever seen before in real life in one place. And they just learn to live with it up there. PRetty much everyone up there has snow tires and have one or more of the following:

A) a snowmobile,
B) some sort of AWD vehicle (or a 2WD one with snows)
c) a snowblower
D) a roof rack for skis or snowboards

Drives me nuts when people say to me "OMFG you're going out in this?"

To which I reply "HELL YEAH!!!! I didn't spend $700 on Grabber AT-2's to sit at home and mope" :D

come toronto...we are getting dumped today...... i will let you play the 'snow blower' :evil:I used the blower tonight because I didn't feel like shovelling out the drive. Has about 2" of accum in the drive so I parked on the road and thanks to a thorough cleaning and servicing of the carb on it, "The Big Block"* fired up like a charm for me and made an hour-long shoveling task into a 10-min waltz through the meadow :).

* The snowblower my grandpa bought in the early 80's. Has a 33" wide opening, two-stage auger and impeller, drift cutter and a nice big Tecumseh engine with a muffler that sounds like all the baffles have gone out of it

My snowblower is the sound equivalent of a 2004 Cobra with dual Magnaflow exhausts. LOL if I close the choke halfway, then open it and goose the throttle, I can make it snap like a V8 exhaust :D

They sure don't make them like that in that size anymore lemme tell ya.

OK - so I took my daughter up to Mt. High yesterday for her 8th grade ski trip (think Ditch Day). Here's some photos of the event:

Around noon it started to cloud up a little. It was clear and cold, and pretty windy, when we got there around 08:00. By noon, it started to cloud up a little, and by the time we left around 3, it was snowing at around an inch-an-hour.

Not sure what you mean by color correction? I took these pics in at 6:30 am with a 2.0 megapixel camera. It's a weak camera by today's standards but I found it hiking and it works great for free!! These pics were taken in a parking lot that was plowed earlier in the morning. No chance of getting stuck with the all wheel drive and new BFG Mud Terrains!!
