Don't see much activity from anyone concerning the June meet. Are any of you down South "toaster" drivers interested in the meet?

Actually we have been actively discussing the whole idea. We should come to a consensus directly and have something posted.

You're welcome to join us, check out the Mid-South/Atlantic Social group, or join us at out monthly Meet-N-Eats. Or, we could just continue posting on this thread too.

There's a lot of options in this area, what's your favorite?

How about it folks, what's yours?

My thoughts We had talk about doing a world record last year we could dust off that plan or in my area.
blue Ride parkway dive Wine at Chateau morrisette. http://www.thedogs.com/ The manager drives an E.
We could stay at the campgroud we stayed at for spring fling.
I am open to anything and will help as I can but we need to start thinking.

the BRP idea is cool, if we cover the BRP from the mill on up to the Skyland Drive that would cover the entire parkway on EOC events. Those that have been to them all can get a neat certificate from the National Park Service.

I'll dig the info up and post it later on.

Some of us on the ROC have been talking about touring the Honda facility at Lincoln, AL; they make RL's and Oddy's there. Possible headquartering at Guntersville State Park, maybe touring the Space and Rocket Museum in Huntsville, AL. All very, very, tentative. Tom wants us to play together like last year!!

It seems the whole concept of the '09 meet is being discussed in several threads and several regions. That may be good and all, but I do worry that unless several of us combine together we're all just going to wind up with a lot of 'mini-meet' quality events.... :-|

Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, just not quite the 'international meet' fanfare. Does that make sense to anyone?

If we want to do the individual 'regional' meets, maybe we should space them out over the summer - for no reason other than allowing those of us who can or desire the chance to attend several 'semi-local' meets.

There are several in discussion that honestly sound like a lot of fun, and it will be hard to choose which one to attend at the rate this is going.

It just seems to me we would be better off either spacing them out or combining the Eastern regions into one big event....

Just a thought...

Tom's instructions were for combined meets across the country all on the same weekend. That sort of eliminates spacing them out. I would think a large combined eastern and southern regions would work . I have posted on the EOC and ROC and have little if any support or interest. Looks like the big guys will have to take over, I am not getting anywhere!!:-? It takes a lot of time to pull this together, without the clout from Tom and his Honda contacts I feel dead in the water!!

Tom's instructions were...

I know, I saw T Mac's post, my point is that there are honestly relatively few in our area that attend ANY function. We had about five of us go to the last International Meet - and that one had the big draw of the Honda Plant Tour.

We honestly have that many and more show up for our mini meets.

All I'm saying is that I'm fearful that unless we do something radical it's just not going to have much more impact than any other meet we hold....

We typically have three or more 'big' mini-meets a year, and the monthly meet-n-eats too. With decent turn out - sometimes better than others, but decent none the less. I just honestly don't see this being any better really. Maybe I'm wrong, hopefully I am....

But please don't 'throw in the towel' already. Let's work together and come up with something that will work.

I went to the ROC meet in St Louis in 07 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Missed the 09 meet in Columbus and sincerely regretted it. There is so much to offer here in the mid south that I cannot believe there is not more interest!! We have the East coast, Gulf coast, Blue Ridge Parkway, Smoky Mountains, and Jack Daniel distillery! What more could you ask for!!:???:

It's not the lack of Ideas that is confounding the process. It's the lack of cohesion between the people attempting to organize the diverse chapters.

This was one of my primary fears when reading Tom's post. It needs to go to a committee from each area. Then the representatives of the areas need to form a consensus of preferred locations.

At that point, input from the general membership would be helpful, in determining a final location.

All the posts I've seen are solid contenders for a meet. It's obvious that people are thinking about it. So there is a considerable amount of interest.

As it is now it's it's all over the place. If this continues, there will be no " National Meet " anywhere. There will simply not be enough lead time for the logistics.

You must also consider the lead time people need to plan Vacation time.

Lets restart the process from a local chapter prospective. Then attempt to blend the chapters.

Ok North East, Who's on First ??

Kissya is right and so is Dom.

It's a little confusing getting these Regional Meet thingys going but the SoCal Meet appears to be near to figuring out where and what they want to do.
Heck - we might be inviting all of California if nothing gets off the ground floor in a timely fashion elsewhere around the state - and anyone else who wants to attend too. :-D
We're cool with that.

Today we at least know that there are campground and hotel reservations available at one of our suggested locations - San Diego.
If we decide on San Diego as the location for the meet we'll be 90% there.
All that's left would be for people to start making thier hotel and camping reservations.
Everthing else should fall into place accordingly. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

Not much time to spend getting a consensus on a location - especially with the holidays going on - that could drag on forever.
Perhaps just pick some kewl place that you think most people would want to go to and go with that.

People will jump on board once a place has been decided upon.

My two cents worth.

bh241
12-17-2008, 06:00 PM
All I'm saying is that the whole idea of holding multiple 'national meets' is self-defeating. Maybe I'm missing a key ingredient or something but really if each 'region' holds a 'national meet' the same weekend we are going to wind up will less attendance than we would for a normal mini-meet.

It doesn't matter to me one way or the other, but I don't see the point in putting so much effort into something that is handicapped to begin with. My point is that here in the Mid-South Region, several of those who come to our 'big' mini-meets are from Mid-Atlantic or another region, if they have a 'national' meet going on the same weekend where do you think they are going to go?

Come on guys, surely I'm not the only one who sees this as a problem?? am I??

I just honestly don't see the logic in this.

My recommendation is the same as it was the other day, we either need to hold one meet for the eastern regions or spread it out over multiple weekends. There simply aren't enough Eple around to support the idea of multiple meets on the same weekend period.

Don't get carried away with this. I made an inquiry at the Lincoln facility and was told that they would put us on the list for the 26th. This is only tentative!! They are currently not doing tours and we are not sure when they will resume. The delay in firming up the tour could adversely effect lodging at the Guntersville Sate Park or any over lodging facility. The state park apparently is very busy in the June time frame and not knowing what Honda is going to do for us could shoot us in the foot as far as lodging at the park!! We are in a very confused situation!! PM or e-mail me if you want further information!!

Another point of interest is the Dale Jarrett Driving Experience being held at Talladega on June 28-29. The track is just a few miles from the Honda plant. This is assuming that people are still interested in going this route. That's why I started the poll, to gage interest.

I'm getting a bit confused here. We're trying to get the Mid-South and Mid-Atlantic groups together as well as others. We're discussing the Lincoln tour for the big meet. The Northeastern group is wanting to crash the Mid-Atlantic party. So does that mean that everybody is coming to Alabama? So far we have 7 Element and 9 Ridgeline owners on board. If this isn't the plan, we need to come up with one before we get too deep into it.

Today's meeting of the mindless, came up with 3 LOCATIONS. We now just need to see if we can find camping and hotel's in close proximity. We are working on it.

Give us 2 or 3 days to come up with a viable list. Then we will post a poll. Whatever wins will be the choice.

We are trying to satisfy several basic needs. There are people that don't like to camp. so there has to be another/several options. Thats the part that is the most difficult to bring together.

Keep Cool wile we work on it.
