Honda Canada has now posted the information for the 2009 Element on their website and we get really cheated. There are less colour choices than in the US and there is no manual transmission available on any model. I am certainly glad that I made the leap and bought a new 2008 GGM SC, with a manual transmission, last week. I would not have purchased an '09 at all.

Since day one we have always had fewer choices compared to the US. Certain colours were not available or certain models. The 4wd Lx is one example.

Those prices are in Canadian $'s right? $32k for an E in USD is completely insane.

Yes i am talk Canadian dollars here. If i was buying right now i would bypass the E and get an Accord EX-L sedan with navi for only a few hundred more than the E.

I would lose the 4wd...but i would gain the following.

Navi
Leather
XM
Dual zone climate controls
Heated Mirrors
and better fuel mileage.

you can still get a brand new 2008 E AWD EX for $30K on the road. it used to be on the road; 38K @ MSRP, guessing 35K by invoice.

All I know is even if I had the money to buy a new one, I wouldn't. From just looking on the website, I don't particularly care for the new look. Also, the new SC I noticed looks exactly the same except they add the wheels, the aero skirt package and paint everything to match. The previous SC generation I think looked better because it was different that the normal Element.

If I could afford to, I'd buy an '06 Certified Used EX-AWD Y-Package 5spd and call it a day.

There are always stories out there and exceptions to the rule however with all things being equal, provided the dealership is reputable and honest all Certified Used Hondas have to meet stringent criteria before they can be sold as Certified and are a safe buy for someone who wants like-new but can't afford brand new.

great to know...but after experience many many intermittent electrical issues with my Jetta, i am very skeptical. Intermittent is a terrifying word for me + car now because now its fine, but 3 months or 5000 km later its another case. its the same reason why i got rid of the jetta because the transmission acted up several months ago (5000 km) but its not fully dead yet and hard to detect its problem

Oh believe me, I understand how you feel because I am so anal about my vehicles it's not even funny.

If intermittent problems are frustrating for me as a tech in the shop, I can just imagine how it is for the vehicle's owner.

i still prefer the 08 front view....in discussion with some honda dealer sales people, they seem reluctant to carry the 09 unless required / deemed necessary

We don't have any yet. Last time i checked we had 2 2008 Ex 5-speeds left and 5 various years left on the used car lot. There was a time when they were gone off the used car lot as soon as they arrived.

hmm.... never knew the Es were so unpopular.

what colors do you have at your dealership? I thought the only one you have is the SC.

The Sc went last week. We have a Galaxy Gray 5speed 4wd in the showroom now and a silver 5-speed Ex...i am not sure if that one is fwd or 4wd.

There used to be a time when i was at the other place when we had 7 or 8 in stock at any given time.

well i got an email from carcost canada.... and its official factory rebate for 2008 E from Honda for Es is $8000 off now. A jump from $3500 plus this + that.

Thats correct, all remaining 08 E's now have $8000 cash purchase rebate from Honda and great rates starting at 0.9% for 36mos. financing. We only have a few 08's remaining and 1 LX 2wd Demo and 1 used 06 EX-P 4wd. Still no sign of the 09's yet but my manager claims to have placed the order so i wait patiently to see the new orange color. I'm hoping to get an 09 E as a Demo but i'll probably end up with a Fit Sport as the economic crunch has seen fewer Demos hitting the road as the Honda "belt" tightens.
Now is the time to pounce on an 08 as the rates are better than the 09's and most dealerships are blowing out the remaining inventory before year end.Pretty good incentives right now.
If anyone is still on the fence then come see me and i'll get you a great deal on our remaining E's.
Ask for Roger!:)
Classic Honda.
