: HELP! Detailer WAXED ALL MY BODY PANELS!!
Texicans 11-22-2003, 03:10 PM Hello All! This is my first post after lurking for about 2 weeks. Well now I really need your help.
A local car wash, which has always waxed my cars well, waxed my new SOP EX AWD 5SP w/ a carnuba wax. The detail person waxed all of my plastic body panels!!!
This not a simple overage, but rather a deliberate application of wax to the panels. The car wash is ordering a product the detail manager believes will remove the wax. This occured on 11/06/03. How can I remove all the wax?
Also, can I do anything to my panels before the car wash has its product in shop? Maguiers customer service, which was great, recommends its Heavy Duty Vinyl and Rubber cleaner to remove the wax. Has anyone used this product?
I'm very upset, but am giving the car wash a chance to rectify the situation and am looking for my own solutions and possible recourse. Thanks for any and all help. :D
StLouisPenguin 11-22-2003, 03:17 PM There is another thread about this very thing....a guy took his he to the dealer, they detailed his E, waxing all the panels.
Solution:
buy a jar of creamy peanut butter and some wax aplicator pads (I know this sounds strange) rub a small amount of peanut butter all over your plastic panels, wash and repeat if needed.
*This is a small layer of peanut butter*
Texicans 11-22-2003, 03:43 PM I've read some of the other threads and haven't quite figured out why peanut butter. A thin layer of peanutbutter equals the same thickness applied as a liquid wax?
The car wash used a product called Blue Coral, a conditioner to remove a bit of the wax. Looks great, but will definately evaporate and reveal the wax in about a day or two. Should I wait until the conditioner dries up before attempting the Jiffy solution?
StLouisPenguin 11-22-2003, 03:48 PM I am not sure about waiting for the conditioner to dry or not....hopefully someone else can chime in on this one.
I believe the reason that peanut butter works is due to the natural oils breaking down the wax. (if I have spoken outta school here I am sure I will stand to be corrected, as I did not study, nor receive a degree in Peanut Butter Chemistry in school!)
HappyCamper 11-22-2003, 08:18 PM This is a tip from the Zaino Brothers polish product site

3. I would definitely recommend you remove the wax buildup on your paint. Just use Liquid Dawn (hand dishwashing liquid) as a car wash. It has a high alkaline content which cuts right thru carnauba wax, paraffin, silicone oils, etc. This will get your paint finish squeeky clean and wax free.
It's another idea that you might try....
ChumsGum 11-22-2003, 09:15 PM Dawn detergent, then peanut butter, dawn again, then 303 protectant.
Texicans 11-23-2003, 10:05 AM Thanks for all the input. I'll definately have my hands full over the Turkey holiday.
Best Regards, :D

bmille9 11-24-2003, 05:05 PM Believe it or not the peanut butter is the real deal. During our first detail I carelessly allowed the application of wax to carry over to the body panel just a bit..... You know the rest, that annoying residue.
I applied a thin coat of the creamy peanut butter (with finger) allowed to set-up a minute, removed with a cotton towel and presto, no more residue.
I might suggest a quick wash after to remove the remnants where the panels meet.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Alheim 12-07-2003, 09:40 PM ..do the peanutbutter thing to get the wax off, then have your body panels painted to match the car.. it'll look approx. 23523 times better
Texicans 12-09-2003, 11:19 AM I finally took some action. I used the following products:
-Maguiar's Professional #39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner
-303 Aerospace Protectant
Yeah the Jiffy would have been cheaper, but the Maguiar's product worked great. You'll have to find it at a marine store or online b/c it seems to be marketed toward boat and rv owners. Thanks for the heads up on the 303 Aerospace Protectant. The marine shop from which I bought my supplies swears by 303 for almost anything(I suspect they treated the shop dog!)
The marine shop also suggested the use of Teflon Wax for automotive use. They suggested it would do far better than regular carnuba wax. Is this possible? Anyone with any marine care background?
Thanks for the help.
ChumsGum 12-10-2003, 12:22 AM I've read up on teflon and silicone waxes, yes it is said to be better than carnuba. It last much longer and protects better but for overall gloss and shine nothing beats carnuba.
dee fective 12-18-2003, 01:08 AM Rumor has it that olive oil would have the same effect as peanut butter. Somehow the oil acts as a mild solvent...
does anybody remember using peanut butter to get gum out of your hair?
Same theory...
Ricecube 12-27-2003, 08:01 PM :D I had the same problem with the wax on the plastic trim. I have found "Wax Blaster" on the internet but have not used it. Somehow I was able to wash the wax off painlessly. I tried using different cleaning agents as well as alcohol but none worked. Finally, I think Dawn dish washing liquid with warm water did it! Make sure you wash only the plastic trim because you don't want to wash the wax off the body.
BlackdogStudios 01-27-2004, 07:07 PM yeah it had me thinking the peanut oil would probably be the magic bullet in the peanut butter thing.. ill have to try the olive oil thing sometime. peanut butter residue might attract yellowjackets in the warmer months. (anyone know?) or BEARS hehe.
let us know how the olive oil works.
best

and what would be wrong with that?
GO JACKETS!!

morningbelle 02-13-2004, 11:31 AM You guys should check out Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax. I just tried it and it's amazing! It's easy on easy off and dries clear. (but I always make sure to wipe it off right away if it gets on the plastic) It also helps with swirl marks! They say it's new technology and a lot better than their Gold Class liquid wax.
I also received a tip to try their Trim Detailer on the plastic paneling and it was incredible. Since the panels aren't that dark, it's hard to see a huge difference but you can tell that it completely conditioned the plastic and gave it a richer look.
MrAnderson 03-01-2004, 11:06 AM I think the peanut butter works because it's a protein and that helps to break down the wax.

To run a test, you need to rub a steak on a wax stain. :D
I bet it won't work. Then try peanut oil mixed with baking soda, which probably will work...
Why ask why?

Cheshire Jav 03-04-2004, 08:25 AM Ok. My Fiancee figured this out. But boy does it work. :D Has anyone heard of the new Mr. Clean Magic Eraser? Yeah Yeah I know but it truly works! It ROCKS! It just uses water and is non abrasive. I made the MAD mistake of putting NU Finish on my E last year and made a mess. I have tried everything to remove the stains it left on my panels! Peanut butter & Back to black both worked for a while but the stains came back. I've used every degreaser I could find and none of that worked in the least. This REALLY WORKS! I no longer have wax stains on my panels. I hope that helps someone else. 8)
ELEMENTDUDE 03-24-2004, 10:53 AM Did you ever resolve your issue? And how did it come out?
Da5thElement 04-25-2004, 08:07 AM Peanut Butter is nature's best secret on Wax. I spent my saturday cleaning my element, just me and a toothbrush. I recommend using the creamy kind, don't want the chucky style to scratch up the panels! hehehehe...
It works! I couldn't believe my eyes if I didn't see it for myself. Once I applied it on I used a towel to remove the excess peanut butter and "WOW" you saw the difference! Once I was done I began to wash the Element like I normally do and after applied "MOTHER'S BACK TO BLACK" this made the panels look better than when I first got it from the dealer!
I HIGHLY recommend using both products, you will see a difference!!!
