: Loosness of the hood?

I am a new owner and am sensing some loosness or play in the engine hood. It is strongly latched, but at highway speeds and over some bumps I see it vibrating up and down in relation to the side fender. If I pull up on it while latched, there is 1/8 - 1/4 inch of movement (more on the drivers side).

I plan on having the dealer look at it and tighten it up if possible. Has anyone experienced this? Is this a normal movemnt / loosenes on this car. It doesn't noticably rattle or make noise, but it definately buffets or moves some as I have described.

Thanks for the input.

This is easy to fix yourself. I noticed my hood moving up and down while driving down the road. There are 2 rubber nubs that you can rotate up or down under the hood. They are near the front where the radiator is. Can't miss em. Just rotate them equally. When you shut the hood you should notice a difference. If it doesn't work the first time them adjust them some more.

Thanks for the info, LDB. I adjusted the nubs and now when closed the hood has no play at all. I have yet to test drive this, but it seems this should solve the buffeting.

Nyokie, perhaps you were on the wrong nubs. The adjustable ones are in front at the far corners near the fenders. The passenger side one is right next to the blue windshield fluid filler cap - the other symetrically on the other side. They have some numbers stamped on top. As you turn them counterclockwise, you will notice that they corkscrew out of their holes to raise up and thus give a solid seat for the hood against its latch position when closed. I just adjusted to remove the play from the hood when closed.

Thanks again, I love this board!
My hood is now tight and there is no buffeting.
Nyokie, if your hood sits lower than the fender or has up and down play when it is closed, this should fix it. I double checked the hinges and latch and all were sturdy and undamaged. These little rubber risers seem to be the only adjustment I could see to line it all up. I called service at my dealer and they told me this is what they would adjust barring any hinge damage.

If I have put my hood down, I cannot close by pushing down on the centre, I have to open the hood and let it drop from about a foot open.

Anyone else have this problem?

Will adjusting the rubber risers fix this problem?

You shouldn't close the hood of any modern vehicle by pushing on it. The metal is thin to save weight, but it's easily deformed. On vehicles with springs that hold the hood open, you should pull down by the latch rather than pushing on the sheet metal.
