Hello Everyone ,

Please can someone answer a question for me .. I know it is time for me to get anowners mannuel ... But ... Please .. I just need to know one thing .. I have a relay that I would like to have the wire that turns it on come from a source that is "Hot" only when the motor is running ..

I tried the fuse panel under the dash and the one under the hood .. I could find a wire that was hot only when the key was in the run position but the motor did not need to be running to have it "hot" ...

I also found the oil pressure suitch (I Think) but not for sure and the wires to it are so thin they scared me to think about cutting into it .. Not knowing for sure if they were the right wires I didn't cut into them ..

So Please if someone knows about the wiring onthe Element I just would like one wire / or anything that is Hot only when the motor is running to use as a wire to energize a relay .

Thank You , Very Much , Don J.

The only wire I can think of off the top of my head would be the fuel pump. It comes on when you turn the key on, shuts off, and then resumes once you start the car and obvioulsy stays on.

Thanks so much for the reply .. Where would you tap into that circit ? In the fus panel under the hood ?? I am just going to use this for an energizeing wire for the relay ... Still I'd not like to blow the fuse to the fuel pump .. If I can figure how to tap into this circit I'd just fuse it at a lower # than the fuel pump circit .. That way it would blow before the fuel pump one ..

Sorry for the long "Letter" here .. I am just wondering where to pick up this fuel pump circit.. Thanks again for the reply.. Don J.

I don't have my FSM on hand right now, but it it normally available in the driver kick panel. I can look it up later or maybe somebody else that has theirs handy will chime in.

I think its the 15 Amp fuse located at 17 in the under dash fuse/relay box. its connected to the immobilizer unit.

You could also tie into the wire for either of the power points (cigarette lighter). They are ignition controlled.

The OP asked for a wire that was active only while the car was running. Yes, ignition is on while the car is running, but it is also on when the switch is in the on position and not running.

Hello , Thanks for all of the replies . This has allways been a great web site for help .. I remember seeing something in the fuse / relay box under the hood that said "Fuel Pump" .. A relay or fuse .. I am pretty sure I can tap into that as it is only the relay energize wire . I will fuse it als to be safe /safe .. Down to 1 payment on this car no need to break something now . Well thanks again , Don J.
