: Mounting Systems
Parky 01-25-2009, 02:17 PM Hi Forum,
Just wondering if anyone has experience with mounting systems capable of holding MP3 players or portable GPS units...I'm thinking specificaly of the ball type RAM mounts that are used in the marine world and also popular on motorcycles, ATV's and snowmobiles. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Adirondack Element 01-25-2009, 02:29 PM Hey Parky, Not sure if this is what you're lookin for but I found a flexbile holder that shoves into your 110 v and holds/charges an ipod and you hook into the aux too. It was around 50 bucks. You can interchange the mount depending on what ipod you have....found it at Radio Shack

I was assuming he wanted something that would work in the E :?
paulj 01-25-2009, 03:19 PM I have RAM mount for my handheld GPS. I mounted the ball base on an aluminum bracket which is held in place with the same screws that hold the radio. The mount is just to the right of the steering wheel. I had to remove the plastic bezel around the radio to do this, so cosmetically it isn't the best. Also I get a small amount of jitter. But it didn't require any permanent changes to the dash.
Parky 01-28-2009, 08:31 PM Thanks for the input guys...I think I might price out the centre trim piece and see if I can mount a ram ball..Will also have to look at re and re instructions and weight capabilities as well.

hapyface 01-28-2009, 09:35 PM i bought the Bracketron system.... comprised of a custom mounted bezel and Grip it set up for various GPS, iPod, Cellphone sizes.....
they dont sell / ship it to canadians.... so i had my classmate / friend in buffalo buy it for me...... i ordered 2 sets for E1 (hapyface) / E2 (facehapy)
Harley 01-29-2009, 06:57 AM I mount my gps on the bean bag mount, it sits on the center of the dash , does not move. When I want to use it in the CR-V I just pick it up and move it.The reason I use it that way no one can tell I have a gps in the car. No mount showing when I take it out. If some one see's a mount in a car they might think the unit might be in the car and break in. Just my thoughts.

Velcro.
(there's a ten character minimum for posts? huh.)
I second the Bracketron. You can swap out mounts for different components. But then, the Bracketron is all I ever had, so I can't really compare. But I like it.
Snuffleupagus 01-29-2009, 12:45 PM Another option similar to the Bracketron bracket, is the Panavise bracket.

Panavise makes holders. They're called Portagrip. :)

Sowwy. Shoulda asked me sooner. :D
If I remember correctly, many brackets and mounts are compatible with each other. They follow the AMPS hole/bolts pattern.
facehapy 01-29-2009, 07:08 PM hahahaha.........oh wellz opportunities come and go!

Thieves are also breaking into cars when they spot the circles left from the GPS suction mounts on the windshield.
I use a Nav-Mat, a bean-bag type mount. Since I rent a lot of cars for business travel this is an easy way to move the unit from car to car and also to remove and hide the unit.
