: User Name Fascination!

GYPSYTDA

I was looking at the user names everyone chooses, I find that fascinating what some people come up with & why. I would love to hear why you came up with the user name you did (choose)!

I will start:
Mine Gypsy-TDA

TDA is my initials.
Gypsy actually has many reasons. I was moving at least once every 3 months for a long time, lived out of my car, etc, etc.. along with...
I was in NY (with some jerk I was dating at the time) at Ellis Island, some Gyspies kept following me, and turns out they thought i was part of their family, apparently I have the gypsy look.. explains why I never those those creatures I called parents have nothing in common with me (smiles) really I don't look like my parents, or relatives very odd!

OK Next...

Well since no one else has stepped up to the plate, I guess I'll chime in.

Marysville is the home of HAM (Honda of America Manufacturing). And while I don't work for HAM, I do work for, shall we say, a "Honda-related" company

Its just a take on my nickname, Butch. Nowadays when you go by just "Butch" people don't know if your a man or a woman. So I figured I would put "boy" at the end. I was named after my father so my Mom had to give me a nickname.....Butch
.....Oh, and by the way, I'm a boy

GYPSYTDA
01-30-2003, 05:51 PM
that is cool going with the HAM location for your name, cool. Thank you for stepping up!

And Butchie-boy, cute, nice thought there too! Yeah it is hard when youa re named after a parent then what right, two people running everytime their name is spoken. We had the names that just sounded the same problem in our home.

yazoo68
01-30-2003, 08:26 PM
Yazoo was what I was called since people butchered my last name. Back in the day, working in Syracuse, NY, a collegue called me "The Great Yazoo", sort of a take off on the Flintstones. He called the house one day and asked my wife, "Is this Mrs. Yazoo?" It kind of stuck, and got shortened to "Yazoo" or "Yaz".

I added the "68" for my birth year, since, at the time, AO HELL had a Yazoo. So did Earthlink. And Hotmail. So, I stuck with it.

GYPSYTDA
01-30-2003, 08:40 PM
Hey I think that is a cool name to get stuck with (Yazoo)
My maiden name was way too close to our hairy Star Wars friend, and I was cursed for that for many, many years! I lived with Chewie, Walking Carpet, and the Wookie.. along with the prior names I had a dance named after me they called it the Hokey Wokey.. ahh the joy of cruel children! But you have a cool nick name, enjoy!
Thank you very much for sharing!

I picked this one up a few years ago. I am currently in the military. I did short tour of duty in Panama, and a couple times everyone went out to party but I stayed back on base, wasn't feeling to good. So I became the one man party for that tour! Funny how things just follow you around. :)

FloridaGlenn: Thank you, you made me smile, and laugh.. i enjoyed that response. And at least I know I did not lose my mind, i was beginning to wonder, smiles.

So now the shoreline mist, this is my big question on the color is it more tan-beigey or is it like a champagne color? dying to know have not seen that color in person...

DarkwingD
02-03-2003, 12:25 PM
DarkwingD is short for Darkwing Duck, a cartoon from the early to mid 90's. It happens to be my favorite cartoon and also my initals(DD).

GYPSYTDA
02-03-2003, 01:16 PM
Just saw on the other page that Darkwing is our 21 year old Target Demographic Honda Element Owner!

Now wow he remembers Darkwing duck, at such a young age.. grin.. yeah I recall that cartoon that was cute & cool! (Darkwing is hardly as annoying as Donald was).

(to borrow from the "Milk" campaign) So, got Element? Which one, and how ya like?

isketerol
02-03-2003, 06:25 PM
Thanks. I do like to think I have learned something more than personal gain, yes.

I am waiting for the dealer to get my Element. :( I have asked them to get the Silver for me, if not then the choices are the beige, the blue, the green, the orange and last choice of all is black. The wait is driving me nutz.

I have to stop reading all of the posts as all of the discussions made me want to get fish-eye mirrors which jumped onto my current truck - Chevy S-10. So now I have to get them for the "E" as well. And all of the raves over the carpets in the colder/wetter (snowy) climes have made me want those as well :!:

I do promise to get my bf to post some pictures of me and my "E" when I get it.....

How did I get my name....

"windowtint" .. well... since this month is my 15th year of custom window tinting .. that about explains it...

I've been using "windowtint" on these different message boards for years

I've used "windowtint / window_tint" since 1988 when I started tinting (I was 14) ~ ~ have been online since 1987 ~ anyone remember BBS's??? (I remember the internet before there was an internet.... ok.. now I feel like some old dude....)

Nope, I don't stink!

Atleast, I don't think so. Hmmm, I am single. Better change my deodorant!

Hehe... I got this name because I like words that are common yet very underutilized. Like parfait, and democrat. :)

Also, at the moment of registration on epinions.com, I was thinking about the Skunkworks team that builds many of the military's ultra-secret bombers. The name was kinda cool, so I prefixed it with Super, because that's the kind of guy I am.

So there you go. SuperSkunk (c) 2003 Derek Knight, All Rights Reserved.

I worked construction while in college and the boss on the job had a tendency to call people by their name and add "mo" on the end. I don't know why, and it didn't work with all names. Anyway some friends heard that and it stuck.

Alien Element
02-21-2003, 10:22 PM

when i was in college, they automatically assigned you a username to get onto the network systems, typically your first initial and your full last name. but my last name was pretty common, so i got my first name and last initial. then a lot of my friends started calling me, alternately "shawns" or "Shawn S," so it sort of became my unofficial name. :)

Ger Brassfield
03-22-2003, 06:31 PM
BoomerGer goes back aways! 30 years or so ago, I was a CB'r and my handle was Boom-Boom. 25 years later, it started being shortened (?) to Boomer. When I started using a screen name, naturally it came as BoomBoom, but someone ALREADY had that! (Imagine that!!) So I went to Boomer and used Ger, which is short for Gerry, which is already short for Gerald. People look at the name and pronounce it boo-MER-grrr, until I tell them it is BOOMER-Ger (that's why I capitalize the G). Are we having fun yet?

Ger Brassfield
03-22-2003, 06:32 PM

03-30-2003, 11:14 AM
Well, mine takes a little explaination. My fiance is a huge collector of Turtle things, she loves turtles. Well, she has an '01 Civic that I have HEAVILY modded. When I joined another forum, I wanted to use something that had to do with her since it was her car. SO I picked Turtle, plus the car is really slow like a turtle LOL (shed hit me real hard if she saw me write that). Ive been usinghte s/n Turtle for the longest. When I got an email address it was Turtle2K1LX, which was Turtle + 2001(year of car) + LX (trim style). In turn Ive been using Turtle for the longest so why confuse myself into using somwthing else. So Turtle is was.

MistyMills
04-13-2003, 10:40 AM
Well, mine's pretty boring. My first name is Misty. My last name is Mills.

Other screen names I've used in my life have been Princess Mist (I know I know, but I was 14 and it was my first BBS and I wanted to be Princess Misty but the Y wouldn't fit) and Fiera.

I also use a lot of different names for my online RPGs, but those don't count as they are character names.

Anyway, I just got my Element yesterday and as I just got braces a few days ago, I almost went with an annoying screenname like IJustGotBracesAndNowILookLikeIAm12.

Which wouldn't be bad if I wasn't 27.

04-23-2003, 03:56 PM
My screenname is ExpressElement after my bunny Express. I got a baby bunny last year at Easter and when I let him out I could never catch him because he was so fast. I use Express in most of my screennames now, kinda a tradition.

My husband actually chose the login name here. We were trying to think of vanity license plates and got on the "Turtle" thread because our E is GG.
Spouse was joking that it was a mutant because it seems to be a combination of many different SUV's/Cars/Trucks. I laughed and said "It's a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Vehicle" just as we were filling out the login registration. Nuff said!

And you know, she's kind of right.

foxtail
04-25-2003, 11:19 PM
Foxtail is actually derived from a much beloved canine companion. Shannon was a foundling (left by the roadside at about 5 weeks) and was a truly happy dog. When people would ask my husband what her breed was, he would tell them that she was a fox-tailed coyote. It is absolutely amazing how many people believed him.

So, when I started looking for a user name for email, etc., foxtail just came to mind. Shannon died 3 years ago, and will never be forgotten. I'm using foxtail as an ID, she will always be in our hearts, and we're still finding her dog hair. That dog molted year-round!

(BTW, we now have 3 dogs, foundlings all: a hound mix, a border collie mix, and a 3-legged rat terrier. Life is not dull with 3 dogs, and they are all looking forward to the arrival of my E. Going in the car is way high on their list of favorite things.)

I picked my name cratE because my SLM E looks like a "slated wooden case for transporting goods" (quoted from the Oxford Dictionary). Trust me, this is a term of endearment.
P.S. FYI I had a '72 Hemi Orange Dodge Challenger named Agent Orange.

I imagine that some children, even though sick, are excited about the helicopter flight. And that some are scared. I bet you do a lot of hand-holding. Bless you and all the kids who you see.

Thanks Hellcat for the praise. I guess it is very rare that anyone who merits a flight (is sick enough) is very aware of the flight. But, when they get better many of them come up to see the helicopter so they have a better idea of how they got here. Very small space for so much work! :? However, the helicopter ride for me is still exciting for me even after 4 years! I never really get tired of that whole adrenalin rush. Guess that's why I do what I do.

My family moved to the States from Oxford England in 1976. My father has called me keckhanded since I was a kid. its English slang for left handed ie southpaw but he did'nt use it as a term of endearment. He usually called me that after I did something goofy.
I have read that 1 in every 5 people is left handed. In my family my Mom, Dad, and sister are right handed my brother and I are left handed and the two sons my mom has with her second husband (also right handed) are both left handed. Anyone out there willing to calculate those ods? I read some great posts the other day concerning vehicle speed and engine RPM There are some wonderful number crunchers out there. :D

Nanook
06-01-2004, 07:00 AM
How did I miss this one?

I'm a big Frank Zappa fan, and my screen name is taken from the character in the songs "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow" and "Nanook Rubs It" on the album Apostrophe'. The *ahem* "rubbing" is referring to a hunk of the aforementioned snow in the face of an evil fur trapper. ;)

My avatar is the real Nanook, or more properly: Nanuq (means "bear" in Inuit), of the North. That film is considered the first feature-length documentary and I really like documentaries, too.

I'll add to this recently resurrected thread... "Genom Heavy Industries" is the name of a huge ( and evil ) corporation in the 1987 anime series " Bubblegum Crisis ". It just sounds cool, and somewhat overpowering...its one of those things that you'd have to view the series to understand.

I could swear I already did this one..but I can't seem to find it.
Obviously my memory belies that I am out of the target demographic.

Honu = sea turtle in Hawaiian. My wife was really into turtles when we stayed on the Big Island for vacation. Swimming with the Honu's left a big impression on me too. Basically the Honu's are revered as "Travelers".

It all seems to fit, The look of the Element, the shell like quality of its shape. The urge to travel when in one. Morphing into the element....

Its my handle for the forum and the way I like to think about this fun car.

Its shell, my shell......

Hey, Honu!

I always wondered what that meant... I thought it had somethin' to do with Hawaii but I wasn't sure. :) But I can see now that Honu is a fitting name for an Element - very creative!

BTW, nice pic of you and your "E". You look realy pissed off though; SMILE!! Oh, and judging from all your protective gear I take you aren't aware that side impact airbags are an available option?? hehehe.. just kiddin!

And hey, you are a fellow Washingtonian! Perhaps we'll meet in person someday at an "E" reunion! I'll bring you some Turtle Wax! ;)

Well I was trying for the same shape for my mug including mouth as the front end of the Element, since even the roof line matches.

Yah, but I bought mine before side impact bags became available in our area, so now look what I have to wear whenever I drive my Element....

[quote]I like the track lights focused on the bikes. Nice touch :)

Glad you see the humour in it - the track lights were just laying around in the garage when we bought the place and one day I was seized by the inspiration to use them to light my bike shrine.... I thought it was pretty funny, but some people don't get it...

Both Nightcap and 965 are Dunhill pipe tobacco blends. Nightcap is a strong latakia blend, 965 is milder and less redolent of incense.

Neither is my favorite tobacco, but the combination has the merit of being unique, and it has meaning to the Brotherhood of the Briar.

I lived with an ex-girlfriend who had the phone in her name. When I asked her to move out I had to change the name on the account but I didn't want my real name on the caller ID. So when I called I asked can I put any name on the caller ID? He said yes as long as it wasn't profane. I told him I wanted the last name Mama, first name Joe. He said, "Joe Mama? Cool" and started typing. As luck would have it it also appears in the Minneapolis phone book that way. Look it up That's my number.

OK, I can't stand it any longer. I've been patiently waiting, but, I just gotta ask...

Alright, '-klink' -- what is the story on your nom-de-plume?
Over 25 yrs. ago my fihing buddies began calling me WANKER because I was always trying to fix things that weren't working {outboard motors, fishing reels etc.}. ON sme repairs I suceeded, on others I failed. My failures were more memorable ergo WANKER. One day after a failure, one of my friends called KLINK as in colonel Klink from "Hogan's Heroes" and that has been my nickname for the last 20yrs. I just put the 2 names together for my screen name.
