Sup Peeps,

I had 18's on my 04E. Which was lowered with eibachs. But, I was
wondering who is running 20's? The 18's road awesome lowered. But,
I was wondering which would give me better handling if any. Also, any concerns with ride quality running 20's. I know the 20's run 245/40/20.
I ran 40's on my mini s. Any input would be appreciated. I will be lowering
my new 08E with the Springs as well. And, rear sway and.....other GoodEz.
Thanks for any input.-JH

I'm looking at the TSW Nogaro. Any suggested widths for 20's?

Thanks Again, J. :)

i was looking into going to 19s or 20s. the width i was considering was 8.5. right now i am on 18s at 7.5 and i already have a negative camber. considering that both you and i like our elements to sit low, getting a width greater than that would cause some real negative camber. in the future, when i actually get to doing this, i would like to have 20s with 8 in the front and 8.5 in the rear. i think more would be pushing it. i might need to get spacers if i go that wide.

and people with 20s. and 19s. start posting on this thread!

How would increasing the tire aspect ratio increase negative camber?

cause he is talking about handling and handling does not depend on how thick a tire is. it depends on the width. so, i interpreted and larger rim with a wider width, which is usually the case. and toward the end of goodes post, he wrote: "any suggested widths for 20s?" my post was my suggestion. :D

After I posted the above I thought later that you meant: "getting a width greater than that would require some real negative camber". Increasing negative camber would allow the tops of the tires to tuck into the fender with out modification (like "rolling"). But maybe not...

Wow, now you've really got me confused. After eleven years of SCCA autocrossing I can state irrevocably that the "thickness" of a tire (increased aspect ratio) does have a significant effect on handling.

I wouldn't go with a 19. I have 19's and while they are the perfect size for the Element IMO, tires are wicked expensive because it is an odd size. 20's are nice looking but not practical with a 245 40 20 tire. I am selling my 19's and have bought 18's instead. A. They are lighter. B. Tires are about half price. C. You can run a taller sidewall for a more comfy ride. According to Gary this plays a factor in handling. I'm guessing a shorter sidewall can be made stiffer to give more support when cornering hard. If you want to look good get 20X8's. If you want to handle well and look good get a 18X8-9. If you think about it, they are lighter if you buy the right wheel, if you want a short sidewall you can go with that and have room to lower your E even more, you can find all kind of widths in 18's. Just watch your offset if you are trying to squeeze every last mm out of the wheel well. You might have to go to a rim shop and test fit wheels if they will let you.

Well, that was an incredible amount of rambling! Hope it makes sense!:D

If you 20", I would go 20x8 all around, that seems to be the best setup, and maybe a 40 series tire. 245/40/20 is good. That way you can still get some cushion between rim and street. I am running a 20x9 in the rear and in order to get it real low I'm cambering my rears in like -4 or -5 degrees (see pic below). My car is not a daily driver but I wouldn't want to have to ride like this a lot. I'm guessing I would go through tires a little quicker.

I've seen a lot of nice setups with 18's though. Again, if I put 12-15,000 miles a year on my E I might go with 18's. It all boils down to what looks good to you and what will work with your commute and the roads you are on. 18's are gonna give you much more cushion than 20's. The E rides rough enough as it is IMO...

What's your offset in the rear Mike?

I wish I knew... One of these days I'll have to figure it out. I thought about that as I was typing that post. I know that makes a difference, GoodE asked for 20" width suggestions & I just thought I'd throw my 2¢ in. I know EMELENT is running 9.5 width all around but he's stretching tires to get the fit. I think that BEANZ... guy was running 10.5's and they were sticking way out.

let's add what Burn suggested, 245 40 20 was excellent choice if you want 20's, a pic of my old set up on a 20's, (my 2 Boys in the background) loved em! the 40's gives a better ride and control k104 Hankook Tires so, 8.5 245 49 20's probably your best choice. 18's i am currently on SC wheels 225 55 18, just waiting to wear out what's left tread wise switching to 235 55 18.

Thanks,
I really appreciate it. I'm thinking 18's or 19's. I've decided against 20's
It might boil down to running 18's just do to the extra cost of the 19" Tire
Options. Well, I have that taken care of. I'm not too sure there are many "E" tuners on the east coast. Sep' WaitedonAnime. I wanna get this AWD thing to handle as close to my Mini S ( with suspension work ) did. Ahhhh, to dream.- Thanks again, J

Dude, ramble on whenever you need to.-J
