K&N released the short ram Typhoon on Wednesday for E's. Now we have 3 choices; K&N, InJen and Weapon R.

OK why couldnt K&N do a good job on this one? The price seems better $180-215 but its a short RAM system so the air is "sucked" from the same location its not a Cold Air Intake rather a spendy peice of tubing.
Also there is no Improvement chart on their web site http://www.knfilters.com/typhoon/tappguide.html
Just look at the Install guide to see how simplt this thing is http://www.knfilters.com/typhoon/69-1015.pdf
I saw there is a intake temp sensor I wonder if there is a way to log data from this and capture the gains or losses in the K&N unit.

Any yes I understand its less restrictive that the OEM box because its pretty straight and it looks cool. I guess I just expected more!

So which is best?

The Weapon R seems to be the cheapest.
http://www.dragonintakes.com/index.htm has it for $153 including filter.

The Injen is a good deal more, but it is a CAI and the weapon R is just a short ram, but for east coast winter i am thinking the weapon R....

The filters on the Injen and K&N's are better quality than the Weapon R. That being said I ran a Weapon R on my Eclipse for 5 years with no filter problems, YMMV. I myself am opting for the K&N or Weapon R over the full CAI Injen for the same reasons, short ram here in the winter and heavy summer rains equals less chance of sucking in water. I have to say the Weapon R is the coolest looking of the 3 too.

I like the idea of these intakes, but would rather do without the issues of oiled-media filters. Anybody have any experience converting an aftermarket intake to use paper filters?

>the Weapon R is the coolest looking

I agree. I just wish it was available in black. The colors scream (pardon the expression) "rice".

Well, you are driving a Honda...you are now a "ricer"

The Silver is the most tamed down option or you could have it powder coated black, but that would make you more of a ricer for doing further mods to a mod...it's a vicious circle, lol.

You could in theory put a good coat of epoxy or self etching primer on it and spraybomb it flat black although you'd probably have to touch it up every once in awhile. Powdercoating it would be the best option.

I have the Weapon-R on my car...I actually took the filter off because I think it's the fugliest thing I've ever seen. It looks like a medieval kings sceptor to me, haha. I replaced it with an HKS filter.

Has anyone installed one yet? I understood that there was/is going to be a second tube coming out for a CAI solution.... has anyone heard differently? Would be nice to see a dyno before/after as well, I'll check with K&N to see if they have one.

WHY? Soap and water clean the filter, dry it, and spray with freah oil? and the filter lasts like 40k miles (between cleaning) not 10k like the uber expensive honda replacemnt. hmm $50 for lifetime filter or $30 for a honda replacement... la laa la... 'doh

It will only void the warranty if the problem was directly caused by the aftermarket part.

For example, if you installed aftermarket brakes and rotors and the engine goes bad, then it would not void the warranty.

I purchased the Injen RD cold air intake on my Element and it is great. A girl I know got a Dragon intake for her Civic and they seem cheapy. My Injen intake seems way more durable than hers. The Injen intake wasn't that expensive either, I got mine at http://www.hondasolutions.com for only $209.99 with free shipping.

Are you sure that the Typhoon or similar does not void the warranty. I know K&N claims their filter replacement will not void any warranty but I don't think they make the same claim on the Typhoon... and I think I read in one of these threads that it would or could be a warranty problem...

Anybody researched it? Still may do it anyways!

It would only void your warranty if you use the long ram CAI, suck in water and hydrolock your engine. Then Honda would say tough luck, warranty voided.

It seems pretty impossible, but I've seen quite a few morons do it around here on various cars. I'll be putting on a short ram intake rather than a full long ram CAI due to snow and rain around here. You would have to swamp the E to suck anything in through a short ram set up.
