Our shuttle driver has been diagnosed with an enlarged aorta and is in rough shape.

His wife is desperately seeking someone willing to take their 2 Dachshunds, male, female, both fixed, 8 years old.

She is very distraught over her husband's condition, and is too over-whelmed to take care of the dogs.

If she cannot find a home for them soon, she is contemplating euthanizing the dogs.

Anyone interested and within striking distance of Beckley, West Virginia, please call the Beckley Auto Mall Service Department at (304) 252-3300

Thanks for reading this.

The Washington Animal Rescue League scours North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia for dogs. Just last weekend we met two Labradors that WARL rescued from West Virginia. Contact them at:

http://www.warl.org/

It's a wonderful shelter. A no-kill. A lot of Gidget's puppy gear was donated there.

I forwarded this to some rescue ladies I know. They have been known to work wonders. Hopefully they can help. So sad.

Details, details... :-(

I just found out that one of the dogs requires daily insulin injections, so that will likely narrow the field of anyone willing to take them.

Thanks for the links and ideas for rescue contacts, I'll pass that information along.

Thanks for the update. A friend is emailing her rescue president, and she (the friend) will be in the area this weekend coming back from vacation. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they can help.

I love WARL. That place is fabulous and the faciltiy gorgeous. I go there often to visit the pups.

Some Mook, I was going to suggest Dachshund Rescue of North America, Inc. but I see someone beat me to it.

Washington Animal Rescue League has a program for dogs and cats with "special needs." So please do have her call them.

http://www.warl.org/images/sub/sp_title.gif http://www.warl.org/images/sub/double_hr_400.gif http://www.warl.org/images/spacer.gif The League frequently takes in animals who are not easily placed in new homes. This may be because of ongoing medical or behavioral problems. Or it may simply be due to an animal's advanced age. It is our conviction that these animals are equally deserving of a good home, and that they have as much love and companionship to give as any animal.

To help facilitate their timely adoptions, the League has two programs for special needs animals, one for cats and one for dogs.

The Hope Fund for Dogs

The Hope Fund aids in the adoption of older dogs, dogs with chronic but manageable health problems, and dogs with disabilities. It offers the following incentives to adopters of dogs selected for participation:

A comprehensive, free medical evaluation, including all appropriate diagnostics, prior to adoption;
A complimentary pre-adoption consultation with a League veterinarian;
No adoption fees for the dog;
Lifetime, free medical care and support for the dog at the League’s Medical Center for all pre-existing health conditions and those related to age as determined by League veterinarians. (The League will retain final determination that such care is necessary and beneficial for the dog and can be provided within the Medical Center’s regular parameters).

To open your heart to one of these remarkable animals, please see all of our special needs (http://www.warl.org/animals/index.php?animaltype=Special%20Needs)
animals available for adoption.
