Re: EOC Lake Tahoe Camping Jamboree 2009
Miss Ellie & Gang,
We (me & the boss) will probably come by for a night or two on our Road Trip this year. We had previously been planning to be at Virginia Lakes (between Lee Vining & Bridgeport south on 395) during your week, but we've moved that back a week & now will be there the 5th through 12th. Perfect for us to come join you probably Saturday & maybe Sunday nights. We're on our way up north, back east (as far as Iowa) and then down south (Gulf Coast) before heading home. Looking forward to fitting your meet into our trip. We're Ridgeliners, but have enjoyed combined trips with Elementers before. Is Kanji going to be there? I think he's an Element, right? He takes great pics - met him at a San Diego meet a couple of years ago. Did I hear Chile cook-off Saturday??? I'd love to share my own special version. Let me know if there is room at the group camp ground, or what we need to do to plan to join you all for Sat & maybe Sunday nights.
Dnick
P.S. I just posted some pics from our Road Trip to Oregon & back down the coast last year. Posted on Gulf Coast group's area. Proceed to next couple of replies for additional pics (I don't know how to add link here)

Miss Ellie & Co. 09-09-2009, 03:12 PM [quote=Elemen-O-P;796265] Head out the front gate and there's a pizza parlor and coffee shop within walking distance.... I even think the pizza parlor delivers to the campground.
quote]
Paul - during Camp Chat last Monday night we were talking about this.
Some people may not be up for cooking camp dinners Friday night.
Especially after a long drive and then having to set up camp.
So we figured why not order pizzas delivered to the campground?
Heck - Friday Night pizzas and beer with all our friends is fine with me!
PS: I like anchovies!
wgwood 09-09-2009, 05:59 PM Gene,
I will do my best to be at the Bakkery at 8:00am on friday.
I think it is great that you are offering pizza and beers. I will take a small pepperoni with extra cheese. :)
I spoke with Glenn around 2:30pm today and he was just south of Mount Shasta buying spam. Yes. He plans on staying tonight and tomorrow at a motel near the south shore stateline. He says he has everything he needs except what is in the pic below. Can anybody help a fellow EOC'er out?

Dr. Farther 09-09-2009, 10:04 PM Hey all... we bought a 1.75 L Bombay Sapphire plus 1.75 L Wild Turkey and 1.75 L Irish Cream. If this isn't enough, someone else can kick in more stuff
We're leaving Yreka by Noon Friday. Our goal is to arrive before dark.
EOC4ME 09-09-2009, 11:09 PM Greg! You still have my Life Raft? You old Blow Hard you
Gene's buying pizzas? I'll also take a small Pepperoni with a crisp crust and better add a side salad for Jet (Mr. Figure)
Well, after shopping for Greg's airhead Wife at the .99 cent store, I made it to Tahoe around 8PM. Gas at most stations is $3.35. I did see one station for $3.25 near stateline.
Cell service (at&t / verizon) both work A-OK! And as stated Wi-Fi is on and ready for Greg to post more Pic's of his Wife!
I'm sleeping in tomorrow (first day since on this long road trip . . .), so please keep the noise down,
Glenn out for the count . . . ;-)
Gene,
I will do my best to be at the Bakkery at 8:00am on friday.

EOC4ME 09-09-2009, 11:20 PM Josh will be busy baking Brownies! We all like Brownies! Good Man Josh!
Before Greg's Tacos arrive, I had to get my Mexi-Fix with my trusty side-kick Trina! DAMN I'll miss her at the Tahoe E-Vent! In fact, I made a SPECIAL stop in Placerville and ate a juicy-saucy-tasty-melt in your mouth IN&OUT Burger, just for JuneBug! I'm still chewing all that melted cheese off of the wrapper . . . It was hard to choke down, but I had to do it for Trina
See'ya all sometime Friday,
Glenn resting before our BIG E'VENT . . . ;-)
Glenn - Glad to see that you made it back in the USA AOK.
What did you and Junebug have for lunch?
Josh - make an extra batch of Brownies if you can.
There will be many chocolate freaks in the crowd who will need a fix.
And they tend to get rather rambunctious when that stuff is around. ;-)
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-09-2009, 11:53 PM Gene,
I will do my best to be at the Bakkery at 8:00am on friday.
Kewl. You've got my number. Just holler if you're running behind or ahead or whatever.
I think it is great that you are offering pizza and beers. I will take a small pepperoni with extra cheese.
Yeah sure. Not a problem. But I'm only ordering double anchovies with jalapenos.
I'll have plenty of A&W for all you beer hounds too.

Hey, she's got twin sisters in Reno!
I'm sure we can get good friend Glenn hooked up with a date.
Heck - if he gets lucky maybe even a "double date"
You never know... it could happen.

I love you and I hate you, all at once. ;-)
We went to a local Mexican restaurant. Their first store in the now-regional chain was the next city over, and the owners lived in Tukwila for many years. The "authentic" choices were a place that I heard went downhill recently, and the ol' taco truck in the seedier part of town. We'll go there next time!
imperience 09-10-2009, 02:45 AM Happy Birthday Gene!!!
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-10-2009, 10:27 AM Happy Birthday Gene!!!
Thanks Andy!
Still lot's to do today in preparation for our 2:30 AM departure.
I'm so stoked!
Happy Birthday to you. (I'm guessing 50.)
Wow, I was just getting ready to call you and see what time you were hitting the road.
I've got way too much stuff packed, I should be ready for anything, (except snowfall)
....
Elemen-O-P 09-10-2009, 11:16 AM Talk about a busy schedule just to get ready to camp!
Yesterday I changed my spark plugs, wipers and adjusted my fogs.
Today I plan on doing some yard work, changing my 20's out for the stock 16's...getting the camp stuff out and hitting the grocery store for minimal starter supplies. There's a nice Safeway in Tahoe, we'll do our shopping when we get there.
Tomorrow I get off work 1/2 day to take Zoe to the kennel...load up the E and hopefully be on the road by 5pm, only 1hr after lacy gets off work. It'll be such a long day, pizza and beer sounds fantastic!
the excitement is building!!!
EOC4ME 09-10-2009, 11:44 AM Hello princess :D
So, you'd say this is kinda a LOVE / HATE relationship?
I can dig it,
Glenn trying to be GOOD today

EOC4ME 09-10-2009, 11:50 AM Happy 50th (again) !
Looking forward to meeting Greg's new wife . . . Maybe she can help BLOW out your candles (our anything else you might need)
Maybe Josh will make a Brownie CAKE for you, it could happen. OH Brownies, food of the GODS they are . . .
Be safe tomorrow,
Glenn cleaning and oil changing today . . .

Thank you Jet!
"58" today - I'm an old hippie pushing 60 bro ! :D
Hope to be done packing and polishing Miss Ellie by 6:00 PM - order a pizza (that will be two nights in a row!)
and try to be in the sack by 8:00 PM.
Then wake up at 1:00 AM - leave here at 2:30 AM and be in Mojave at 4:00 AM
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-10-2009, 12:51 PM Thank you for the birthday greeting Glenn. :D
Getting B-Day greetings on Facebook too.
Me so happy to have friends like this! :D
wgwood 09-10-2009, 02:18 PM Yes, it is a special day for a special person. Someone who has done so much in his life. Someone who is both entertaining and inspiring! Happy Birthday Arnold Palmer!!! Oh, and you too Gene.

Greg

Ask Glenn for your birthday scones!! ;-) Happy Birthday - no better way to celebrate than camping with friends! Someone put a candle in that pizza pie!
Hey Glenn - did you take the 205 cut-off I mentioned?

Hey Glenn - did you take the 205 cut-off I mentioned?
Aw shucks - I thought you were gonna say that you've changed your mind and will show up at Tahoe. ;-)
Thank you for the B- Day wishes Trina!
I will hit Glenn up for some scones but he might not want to share.
Watch him come up with some lame excuse - like they jumped out of the car and ran away while he was stopped at a red light.
Your ears will be ringing all week - lots of people are gonna be talking about you!
But don't worry - I'll take notes and write down names. :D
bikerjosh 09-10-2009, 05:56 PM Happy B-Day Gene
Brownies are done and in the fridge.
Packing the E tonight so I can drive to work with it and leave straight from there. Kristen has to work a full day so she'll be driving up later.
Pizza and Beer sounds good, come to think of it that's what I was eating last night.
See you all up there.
PS got a windshield mount for my helmet cam so I can shoot some off road adventures.
Josh
Karaoke Massage 09-10-2009, 08:43 PM Hey hey all, KM & The Bluefish are packin and getting ready to head to Tahoe. Glen are there power plug outlets near the camp? I totally forgot to start charging my portable battery, and my queen sized bed *cough* needs a plug to inflate it.
Yeah I know, I'm terrible. Seriously though does anyone remember if they got the POWAH at the sites? With tennis courts, a pool and wander masseuses I can't imagine they wouldn't.
Well she SAID she was a masseuse!!! :D
I've got a power inverter that plugs into the lighter plug and I have some extension chords.
....
Karaoke Massage 09-10-2009, 10:40 PM I've got a power inverter that plugs into the lighter plug and I have some extension chords.
....
Sadly I think my bed would blow up your inverter. We blew one up on the coast. The bed we have is one of those "for home use" ones and the built in inflater is wicked.
Well, I do have some extension cords :)
....
Karaoke Massage 09-11-2009, 12:21 AM we're bringing about 80 ft of extension cords. Hopefully somewhere in the campground has power or we'll have a very lumpy time sleeping :)
luckily we can always sleep inside the E. Maybe throw some leaves in there or something.
chefjames 09-11-2009, 01:05 AM alright everyone have fun this week....take a lot of pictures and update them asap if possible!!
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-11-2009, 04:08 AM Thanks for the Happy B-Day Greetings Josh.:D
It's 2:07 AM and we are outta here!
CYA ya'll in Mojave or at the Campground!
Elemen-O-P 09-11-2009, 11:05 AM apparently there are power outlets in whats to become the Ponderosa Bar. Lets hope they work.
If not, I too have a 3 prong inverter...pretty stout thing, can be hooked up directly to the battery if needed.
slimerdogs 09-11-2009, 07:15 PM Wish I could have come but have to work.:-( Well for all that are comeing to the Big Bear camping Event I will be bringing a generator and inverters ect. Are they letting you burn wood up there or did they ban it. Take a lot of pics.:D
we've got a major fire pit and plenty of firewood, but we're all gathered at the Ponderosa Bar getting ****-faced and don't really care about the fire.
Junebug 09-11-2009, 11:01 PM Hey campers! You were all on the road today, so I wanted to pass along that I saw Larry posted a thread - he and Rachel are going to have a baby! How fitting that the announcement comes during an EOC campout since the engagement happened at an EOC campout! Neato! :)
bikerjosh 09-12-2009, 12:53 PM Good turn out. Gene put the serious hurt on everyone with his Singapore Slings last night. My head felt it could use a sling when I woke up this morning.
Mark and Lynn(sp)? came to the rescue with their sour cream lemon pancakes. I ate somewhere between 6-8, which didn't seem like a lot at the time.
No more fruity drinks for this camper; thank you very much.:D
slimerdogs 09-12-2009, 11:08 PM Glad to hear everyone is having fun. Photos???:)
Junebug 09-13-2009, 08:45 AM I got a cell phone pic that showed the MOAS (Meat on a Stick) was in full effect last night! Thanks, Andy!
bikerjosh 09-13-2009, 09:48 PM Kristen and I had to head back earlier today, work schedules and my cold were the culprits. Paul and Lacey led four other elements on a fire road drive. Lot's of fun after my car stopped behaving badly. The picture is of a turn out/photo op spot. Smoothiest part of the trip.:D
Last night was meat-a-palooza, lots of great food I'll let the others describe it, as I was in a meat coma by the end.
Gag exchange brought out some truly bizzare stuff. No "Barbie in LA" book, or "Trailer Trash Barbie", but a new arrival the "Deluxe Jesus" action figure with glow in the dark hands. Oh my.
Omlette bar was in full effect this morning mmmmm tasty.
Thanks for another awesome trip.
So DV in Feb or March 2010?
I arrived at 4:00 in the morning with "Miss Ellie & Company" and "FreemanE" at Mojave, CA. We then headed North on Hwy 395 on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the dark, but as the Sun arose it created some nice hues and colors.
My Co-pilot / Navigator during his rest period and then reading the signs on the road.
Here are a couple of pics of the some of the different Campsites.Hopefully you can get some feeling of the Campground. It was vritually empty and we could have spread out much more than we did but we're all Family.

dnick 09-16-2009, 01:10 AM Hi Gang,
Thanks for letting Denise & I join you for a while at your Tahoe EOC meet! We especially enjoyed meeting Jack & Rose the adorable pair of Pembroke Welch Corgis! :o)
We hope you enjoyed the Chili we left for you all. Sorry we could not stay and enjoy it with you, but we did not want to risk having to haul around wet camping gear for the next few days of our road trip. The truck was pretty well packed for our trip, and wet gear just wouldn't fit the plans very well!
Hopefully next time we'll be able to join you for a longer spell. Did any other ROCers show up after we left??? Anyway, we enjoyed meeting you all. See again hopefully,
Dnick
It was great to meet you, it's too bad you couldn't stay longer; actually it's too bad I couldn't stay longer. (work).
Yeah, those Corgi's were nice but my favorite was that cute little white dog.:D (Mc Duff).
EOC4ME 09-16-2009, 08:41 PM Last night @ Hard Rock Cafe "Lake Tahoe"!
A big Happy Birthday from your fellow EOC'ERS!
Thanks again for another GREAT E-Vent,
Glenn out and about in Tahoe . . . :D
slimerdogs 09-16-2009, 11:03 PM Great photos. Freeman looks so happy.:D:D
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GLEN.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROCHELLE
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICK (wherever you are)
Farther 09-17-2009, 11:24 AM Doc, Rosie, Jack and I got back home at about 8:30 last night. CA 89 is a great drive home through Lasson National Park. I am sure that Doc will post pics when she gets back from her morning art class. We got a respectable 21+ mpg the the teardrop/kayak combination on the 900 mile trip.
I have come to the conclusion that the EOC campers are really good people.:D

I'm back home safe after an easy drive from South Lake Tahoe, then Carson City and up i395 to Alturas CA. I had a blast, again. Will post a link to pictures as soon as I get them uploaded.
Dr. Farther 09-17-2009, 10:31 PM ...and a few more for good measure ;-)

The Chili was absolutely awesome! Hopefully someday we can try some of the full-strength stuff. Hope you guys had a great time in Lassen!
I loved camping with you all, again. I don't know if I have ever had that much fun in a casino before. And I am actually contemplating buying a real banjo so that we can have a jam session on the next camping trip.
I'll have some pictures uploaded soon!! Here's a teaser to start things off. Love that Rosie dog!!

Miss Ellie & Co. 09-18-2009, 11:03 AM Wow - was that ever fun or what!!? :D
Richelle and I rolled back into LA around 8:00 PM last night but were too busy unwinding to post any blatherings until now.
Nice pics everyone!!!!
From what I understand many more pics are coming so stay tuned to the nearest monitor for your viewing entertainment.
Speaking of which... we drove out through Route 89 to "Monitor Pass" via Markleeville on the way back.
There's very incredible country in that neck of the Sierras and we want to go back there and camp!
The return drive home was that much more enjoyable because of it. (do check out this area of the woods if you get the chance)
And I finally got to try a Pastrami Sandwich from Erik Schatt's Bakkery in Bishop for a late afternoon lunch.
On the 1-10 Pastrami scale Erik Schatt's is a = 9+
I highly recommend that if you're driving US 395 through Bishop that you stop there and eat one... yummers
The Tahoe trip was great!
Pizzas & Beer on Friday night was perfectly wonderful even though many of us were still drinking Singapore Slings when the pizzas arrived.
(my apologies to bikerjosh - it was the 2nd round that put you over the edge Josh - those Slings are some sneaky suckers huh?)
Eating breakfast and still unpacking camping gear - will post more blitherings later on - there's so much more kewl stuff to talk about! - this camping trip was wonderful!

Yo Dan,
Just so you know... you are the offical winner of the Chili Cook Off !!!!!
Yup - hands down your chili was the best.
Of course it helps to be the only chili entery too.
People never got around to cooking any the Bowls of Red as there was just too much way cool other things going on at the campout.
People got distracted! (go figure huh?)
Anywho - Dan's chili was so devine he probably would of won no matter how many enteries there were.
We had a good time slopping it up with the Jalapeno Cheese Bread we bought at Erik Schatts!

Miss Ellie & Co. 09-20-2009, 01:30 AM Hey campers! You were all on the road today, so I wanted to pass along that I saw Larry posted a thread - he and Rachel are going to have a baby! Amazing news!
What a correlation of events.

Jet and Fools,
Ted and I broke in the new tent for a great afternoon nap and then Mel and I had a slumber party our last night in Tahoe. Took off the rainfly and had a great view of the stars.
Just got home after some stops in Sacramento and Carmel.
Ted and I are beat. Maybe some pics well get up tomorrow.
Hope everyone got home safely and well.
xo,
Marilyn:D
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-21-2009, 10:16 AM Glad that you and Teddy the duck chasing Water Dog got home OK.
Yup - we're still a bit beat from 6 days of camping and extrodinary good fun.
This time next summer EOC camping fools will be camping for 10 days at Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
Smack in the middle of enchanted forests with Giant Trees so tall you can't see the top of them.
And the Lost Coast-Kings Range where huge mountains sink into the mighty Pacific.
(The Lost Coast is the only remaining 80 continuous miles of the protected/undeveloped coastal wilderness on the entire west coast -
a frikkin mind blower by any stretch of the imagination - you won't believe this place!)
There are more rivers and swimming holes in the area than you can shake a stick at and we'll have pristine accomadations under an Old Growth grove of Giant Redwoods at one of the best group camps in the entire world!
So start planning your vacation time around this camping expedition.
It will be incredible!
PS: Can't wait to see your Tahoe pics!

Gene,
Just put the disc in the cd/dvd drive on your computer. Unless your computer is as old as you, it should be able to read dvd's. If it does not automatically open the files, click on the "My Computer" icon and then click on the cd/dvd drive icon. There are 2 folders on it. My pics and Marilyn's. Drag 'em to your desktop and they will be copied to your computer. You can then upload them and post on EOC with your witty banter.

This was in my local paper today:
AP-South Lake Tahoe
There have been sightings of Begascrapus Pestis, commonly known as Wild Corgi's, in the Tahoe Valley Campground area. While the locals were rushing away in horror, our intrepid photographer managed to capture a photo of these beasts:
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_E5eDH3bkm5E/SrmKpjcqB5I/AAAAAAAADA8/aRuUEeczj6E/s576/DSC_7360.JPG
After they complete their daytime feeding, they are known to seek refuge in a cave, completely ignoring any bears that might already be hibernating. Luckily, our gallant photographer managed to catch this rare sight:
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_E5eDH3bkm5E/SrmLSFnK7LI/AAAAAAAADC4/ngQjuIDAH0U/s640/DSC_7414.JPG
Unfortunately, the camera shutter woke up the Wild Corgi's, who then proceeded to devour our photographer. Thankfully we were able to salvage the photos. END-AP RELEASE

When cooking at camp it's always best to get your hands and a few pine needles into the mix.
It gives the food a subtle, smokey aged flavor.
slosport 09-23-2009, 12:08 PM Glad you made it home safely.
Gene was having problems posting pics so I went and cropped and photo shopped mine and some of yours and uploaded them to Picassa. He is using those from the web to post here with his comments. Picassa just automatically puts in the account holders name on the bottom of the pics. The DVD I gave you has all your photos on them as well as mine. All of your Teddy photos are on the disc. None of them have wgwood on them.
Do you mean this photo:

Looks like he left them a "Treat".
And what is up with the Gregie? LOL Next it will be Genie, Glennie, Paulie, .... Luv Ya!

No I had a pic with just the treat left for his Ellie friends. This escape photo does show the evidence but not in clear view. Ted was very polite and didn't leave any nasty gifts just sharing his treats.
Thanks Mr. Gregie!

A nice pic of Josh and Kristen
Josh appears in need of a jump start from an overload of the previous nights BBQ Meats & Slings banquet.
But he'll be fine in a few hours.
slosport 09-23-2009, 01:20 PM Teddy did much better this trip than his first trip in Jellystone.
He didn't shake much and he was more himself.
He still wasn't as playful as usual.
He is a dog park "Prince of Play" at home.
He was his nosey self, visiting and checking out new things and people.
He ate goose poo at Timber Cove ...the closest he could get to the geese!
Squirrels, ducks and geese were all new to him.
He loved the chase!
I was hoping he would get a ride in Jets kayak or Gregie's canoe.
Maybe next time.

I miss my Camping Fools.
When is DV 10?
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-23-2009, 09:47 PM Hi Diane!
We miss you too. :)
Death Valley 2010 is on! All we need to do is pick a specific date.
The last week end in February OK?
Heck - I was hoping to push Death Valley up to November (taking advantage of the Thanksgiving Holiday)
and doing it again in February but the campground's already sold out for the Turkey Day week end.
Seriously - I still want to put together a Thanksgiving week end camping gig somewhere.
I'm thinking that more camping fools will have that time off and be able to attend.
It wouldn't be at Death Valley but there's plenty of other very kewl places to camp!
I'll be all over this like white-on-rice. ;-)
I'm sure we'll be able to come up with something really nice.

LOL - U SO FUNNY!
Heck we had some really nice camping digs Box!
The campground itself was absoultely humungous and purty.
We had the entire place for ourselves and peeps enjoyed hanging out alot at the campground.
At our disposal was a large and lovely heated swimming pool which was always void of people -
I used it every afternoon and there was no one in the pool but me. (I dunno... perhaps people saw me coming and left)
We also had access to a volley ball court, tennis court, basketball court, horseshoe pits and plenty of open woods to hike, walk dogs and ride bikes without ever having to leave the campground.
Of course had you been there to annoy everyone more people would of opted to leave the campground and recreate elsewhere. ;-)
It's true - this camping crew does love to cook, eat, drink, park thier behinds and chill.
But I can assure you that we were all out and about jumping in lakes, fishing, rambling around the fire roads, hiking the back country and running back and forth to the casinos.
More pics from Slosport, The Farthers, Tim & Adam, Elemen-O-P and others should be coming soon to back me up on that.
Wish you coulda been there with us!
Now, if we could talk you and Obi into joining us at Humboldt Redwoods next summer...

Be still my heart!
Box - You will adore Humboldt Redwoods - pristine, magnificent and far removed from everything - most definately your kind of camping! :D
Yes indeed - post Labor Day - the first week end afterwards.
Ric:
Don Ricardo didn't make it to Tahoe and everyone asked about him.
No one really knows what's up with his ass these days - except for maybe Junebug.
She may have him locked inside a Steamer Trunk for his own safety.
Ric hasn't been on the EOC boards for many months.
Heck - come to think about it... he might be in the Rhyolite Ghost Town jail for illegal Zombie hunting.
If so we'll bust him out when we visit Death Valley in February.

wgwood 09-24-2009, 02:25 PM I wanted to add a bit more info about this pic taken by John (Free_man_E):
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l223/wgwood/EchoLake.jpg
The lake on the top is Lower Echo Lake and the lake below it is Upper Echo Lake. The Pacific Crest Trail runs along the left side of the lakes. John, Glenn and I went there on Monday (I think it was Monday). John went hiking on the PCT while Glenn and I went paddling in my canoe. To be more accurate, I went paddling while Glenn threw lures.
Echo Lakes are set in a glacial-carved canyon at about 7500 feet. The parking area and boat ramp are at the north end of Lower Echo Lake, which would be in the top of the picture. The lakes are connected by a short river that is easily paddled.
While both lakes are quite stunning, I really enjoyed canoeing in Upper Echo Lake with all it's islands. In fact, at the southern end of Upper Echo Lake is a great grassy picnic area with a beach and picnic tables. The only way to get to it is to hike or paddle about 5 miles cuz there is no road access. Glenn actually caught a nice rainbow from the shore there. I wish I had brought one of my cameras because the scenery was just gorgeous! Anyway, it was a good day.
Regards,
Greg

Now that is where I want to camp!
I don't care about showers and toilets.
I bet the night sky was a knock out! I'd like to swim with those trout and eat them over the campfire.

What does Crane Valley look like?
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-25-2009, 12:43 AM Greg - Richelle and I should be all rested up and ready for another camping adventure by then.
Bass Lake sounds nice! :)
Never camped there but always wanted to.
It's about a 4 hr. drive from LA. (we can do that)
We'de be leaving here right after Turkey Dinner with the family and be at Bass Lake by 9:00 PM.
(Not fond of setting up camp in the dark but what the heck.)
Stay for 3 nights - Thursday, Friday, Saturday and leave on Sunday.
How about this Crane Valley Group Camp?
Can we get reservations?
If we get enough people interested to reserve a Group Camp that would be good - if not indivdual sites would work too.
http://mariposa.yosemite.net/weddings/BassLakeByLess.gif
We're up for going.
Anyone else?
chefjames 09-25-2009, 12:58 AM wooo...if my restaurant is close for 4 days, I would love to join....but need to find out first. Leaving on Thursday and coming back on Sunday, that would be fine by me. We can caravan into Yosemite, wouldn't that be nice.
Mels E 09-25-2009, 04:43 PM Bass Lake sounds good. I am 90% sure I will want to join. Will confirm next week. For me it is about 4 1/2 hours which is not bad.
jdiane 09-25-2009, 05:31 PM According to my CA camp book, Crane Valley Group is vault, whereas just adjacent is Recreation Point Group which is flush.
Karaoke Massage 09-25-2009, 11:40 PM Not sure if its the same Bass Lake but when I was a kid my parents sent me to "camp" over the summer for like 6 weeks at a Bass Lake place. Was one of those archery, canoeing, wilderness adventure type places. It unfortunately also had tarantulas in the showers. I didn't shower for about 5 weeks (though I went swimming nearly every day). Good times. :)
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-26-2009, 11:41 AM According to my CA camp book, Crane Valley Group is vault, whereas just adjacent is Recreation Point Group which is flush.
Ru oh! Vault toilets are no place to park your derriere and share space with tarantulas while tending to business.
Davy Crockett be damned! (I might wear a coonskin camping hat but I insist on flush tollets!)
Does this place have showers?
wgwood 09-26-2009, 02:43 PM Bass Lake is where they filmed the movie "The Great Outdoors" with John Candy and Dan Akroyd. Rent it if you have not seen it.
http://topherlytle.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/great_outdoors.jpg
Miller's Landing has pay showers but it closes at the end of September. But that is why we all have solar showers, right?
The main difference between Crane and Rec Point is the cost, aside from the toilet facilities. The smallest group site at Rec Point is for 30 people and is $122 a nite. Crane has smaller group sites: 12 for $39, 18 for $48, 24 for $71, and 30 for $89.
Both campgrounds are reservable and available.
Regards,
Greg
slosport 09-27-2009, 04:11 PM This is what I would like to see when I'm camping.
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-28-2009, 11:31 AM This is what I would like to see when I'm camping.
Marilyn - If you want to see something like this when you're camping you'll have to stay up past 9:00 PM. ;-)
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-28-2009, 12:01 PM Don't much want to camp anywhere without showers.
Solar showers could work if the weather's sunny and warm enough - but I worry about cloud cover and cooler weather in late November.
Three days without showers and citizens in the surrounding zip codes will be complaining to the authorities about us.
How about someplace that has showers?
McClure Point Recreation Area, Lake McSwain RA, Turlock Lake SRA, Barrett Cove RA, Horseshoe Bend RA, Bagby RA, Fleming Meadows are all nearby to Yosemite.
Other options would be the Central Coast - San Simeon State Park where we could visit my friends at the Elephant Seal Rookery at Point Piedras Blanca, Pier Fish at San Simeon Pier, ocean kayak, visit Morro Bay, cruise the Big Sur coastline and do some Wine Touring.
If the weather gets crappy we can drive to Slosport's house and beg for shelter.
Speaking of Slosport - There's a few nice lakes to camp inland in SLO (San Luis Obispo County)
Lake San Antonio RA, Lopez Lake RA, Lake Nacimiento, and Santa Margarita Lake. (gotta love a lake named after a tequila drink) ;-)
A default option could be Cachuma Lake in Santa Barbara where we could camp and do some Wine Touring.
I'm leaning towards the San Luis Obispo area.
What do you think?
slosport 09-28-2009, 12:16 PM Marilyn - If you want to see something like this when you're camping you'll have to stay up past 9:00 PM. ;-)
For this sky I would stay up!
Maybe take a late afternoon nap and then do a late night paddle across a lake.
The beach areas in SLO county are usually real nice in the winter.
December can actually be the best.
San Simeon is one of my favorite beaches.
At the north end it would be cool to paddle around the point.
There are public trails out to the point..nice short hikes.
If all else fails you can use the toilet and tub at my house.
Dr. Farther 09-28-2009, 02:24 PM Farthers have high interest in all those places around SLO, but don't know right now if we could make it or not.
...aaaand, the weekend after Labor Day 2010 will find Doc at banjo camp on Puget Sound. I reeeeely dislike having to give up a gathering at Humboldt. Is there an alternative week/weekend people are willing to consider?
Box4Rox 09-28-2009, 08:49 PM Other options would be the Central Coast - . . . cruise the Big Sur coastline
All right Gene !!! Good suggestion . . . lemme know when you want me to post the "BigFoot" pic I have . . . ;-)
jdiane 09-28-2009, 09:12 PM A default option could be Cachuma Lake in Santa Barbara where we could camp and do some Wine Touring.
If the caravan pass through santa barbara, maybe you can stop by and convince my across-the-street neighbor to finally wash his SMM element-- its filthy!!
course now that I think about it, maybe the original color of his E is SSM or ASM, its just so dirty it looks SMM... :D
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-29-2009, 10:57 AM I'm going to go ahead and put up a thread for a Thanksgiving Week End Camping trip on the Central Coast or thereabouts.
Probably at San Simeon State Park.
After October reservations there are not required and we should be able to get campsites with no problems.
I will try to contact the park and see if we need to worry about bagging first come first serve campsites.
San Simeon is wonderful - never camped there this late in the year but there's lots of things to do.
Hearst Castle, Big Sur coastline, Elephant Seals, tidal pools, Bald Eagles and if we're lucky maybe see some migrating whales.
Considering a Group Site but that would depend on the amount of up front cost and how many people will attend.
No sense getting a group camp if there's less than 5 of us going.
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-29-2009, 11:05 AM If the caravan pass through santa barbara, maybe you can stop by and convince my across-the-street neighbor to finally wash his SMM element-- its filthy!!
course now that I think about it, maybe the original color of his E is SSM or ASM, its just so dirty it looks SMM... :D
We'll be cruising the 101 north and could hook up with you up in Santa Barbara.
If you like we can quick wash your neighbor's SMM Element and leave a warning note on his windshield...
Final Notice:
"Either wash this car or we'll let the air out of your tires."

At this point I'm thinking just pass by the left of the stump.

What do I know, the right side is just as good.

Left it is, and you might wanna work on the paddle grip...
Gene,
San Simeon Creek is a purty spot. The Governator has jacked prices to $35 a nite, but that includes 2 cars and 8 people. The spots are also very large, especially the ones around 68, 69, and 71. If we could double up on the individual sites, we could have a mini-group camp for not too much money. Just a thought and it is first come-first served...or we can camp in Marilyn's backyard and do day trips. It will hold at least 4 tents.
Regards,
Greg

Beautiful pics Greg.
Double up 2 per 8 sounds great!
Not having to make reservations makes planning pretty easy.
Just show up and pitch your tent.
I like Marilyn's Backyard Motel as a default option.
Miss Ellie & Co. 09-29-2009, 11:35 PM Farthers have high interest in all those places around SLO, but don't know right now if we could make it or not.
...aaaand, the weekend after Labor Day 2010 will find Doc at banjo camp on Puget Sound. I reeeeely dislike having to give up a gathering at Humboldt. Is there an alternative week/weekend people are willing to consider?
Hope you guys can make it down to SLO.
T'wood be nice to see you again.
Humboldt: I think we can accomadate you on the date.
Of course it must be post Labor Day or the place could be heavy with tourists.
When I last spoke with Ranger Nicole she told me that Williams Grove Group Camp would be open through September -
so the 2nd week end after Labor Day could work too.
We can contact her at the park and find out for sure.

Sounds good and definitely worth a try :D

It's views like this that make all the blisters and bruises on my feet from
all the miles of hiking worth it. :):D;-)
What an incredible hike that must have been. Was it an all day adventure ?
I'm enjoying your pics, please post as many as you want.:D

And you are not a hick, not as far as you know...
That is Fallen Leaf Lake in the foreground if anyone is curious.
I look forward to seeing you again my friend. Hope the graveyard shift is treating you good. But then, don't all mad scientists do their best work at night? ;-)

My tent is up in my backyard as I type; it sleeps 8.
Only inconvience is one toilet and a Clawfoot bathtub with a shower hose. Sorry Gene, no real showers. Solar will work.
I have lots of hose bibs and space, even some room for extra E's.
I would be fun to have you guys up at my humble abode.
Marilyn
Love seeing all the great pics..keep them coming.
wgwood 10-10-2009, 07:26 PM Not to beat a dead post, but Gene, did you enjoy the cd's I gave you?
Also, Glenn was supposed to pick up a teardrop 2 weeks ago and I have not heard anything from him except that he got to DV last week. I did email him today requesting pics so we shall see. Missing all the camping fools.
Regards,
Greg
P.S.

Poor Ted looks so serious while the other Camping fools goof on him..a great pic.
Now that I'm home again I'll put together a photo show from My pics ,some of Dr.Farther's and Mister Greg's.
Any news of a San Simon November?
Miss you fools,
Marilyn

I enjoyed the CD very much thank you.
A nice eclectic road mix of retro and other delightful tunes.
Bill Murray caught me by surprise (wasn't expecting that)
You've inspired me.
Now I have to make one for you.
I'm going to title it as... "Greg's - Drive All Night Road Mix"
Yeah, what's up with Glenn and his new Tear Drop?
I want to see some pics too.
Oh well, at least he made it back to the corral at Death Valley.
Once he settles in I think we'll see some trailer pics and more trout pics too.
That boy's got fish coming out of his ears!
Hope you can make it up to San Simeon during the Thanksgiving week end.
I've seen nice fishing off that big, long, beautiful pier. ;-)

Ted doesn't seem too thrilled in that pic but Glenn seems to be having a good time.
We're still intending to go to San Simeon in November.
Really looking forward to it!
Need to get some action happening on that thread and rile some more people up about it. :D
San Simeon is wonderful!

Nice Fish Greg!
Sorry, but the internet is still really slow here! We were told that
we should have better internet within 30 days.
Yes, I did pick up the trailer a while back and have since been back
fishing at Rock Creek Lake. Your TACOs were missed!!!
As soon as we do have (or if I'm in an area that has better) internet,
I'll post a few PIC's!
Yes, you'll need a HITCH, when & if you ever happen to buy YOURSELF a
little trailer ;-)
Be good! Good hearing from you,
Glenn in the VOD (Valley Of Death) . . .
So I did hear back from Glenn yesterday and it seems like the fishin' fool is doing fine.
Gene, I always put a Caddyshack sound bite or 2 in my mix cd's. I really want to make it to San Simeon. Money (or lack thereof) is very tight, but I will do my best.
Marilyn, yeah, post some pics. I think you have at least 75 of Teddy at Tahoe.
Regards,
Greg
faheyd 10-12-2009, 01:24 AM Here's my pics at the bucket:
http://s204.photobucket.com/albums/bb29/faheyd/LakeTahoe-2009/
I'm not happy as pictures of the inside of the logs had no depth perception and the big logs in the fire have no scale.
But I'm sure you'll find the group pic from the 4x4 trail a nice one.
If you need the full size pics, just email me as to which ones (numbers) and I'll email the originals.
