Lake Tahoe is where EOC camping fools will be hanging thier hats and hammering thier tent pegs this September.
Prepare for more fun than the law allows! :D
There's plenty of water in and around Tahoe. Pristine alpine lakes and rivers, the best of kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, uber gambling casinos and a great campground with nearby access to all of this and a whole lot more!
Campground:
Tahoe Valley Campgound /Group Site
1175 Melba Drive
South Lake Tahoe, CA. 96158
(530) 541 - 2222
Cost:
$21 per night - pay upon arrival at the campground, stay as long or short as you like.
JsELEMENT 03-13-2009, 01:17 PM Lisa and I (and Penny) are in for sure. Already have the time off.
Looking forward to this one!
jdiane 03-13-2009, 01:54 PM If we're still in CA in september, I'm in! :D
Darn, I wanted to be #2.
Ok, we're there; Jean, Dave, Duffy & Schnoodle, 3 Kayaks, 1 travel trailer w/ Dutch Oven,
I'm challenging everyone to a Chili Cook-off, cause as everyone knows I make the best Chili and I can prove it.
.....jeez, I just lost #3. How do you guys do that so fast.
ZOMBIEinvader 03-13-2009, 02:06 PM I thought about it but when I read this I said no way!
Given the great depth of Lake Tahoe, and the locations of the normal faults within the deepest portions of the lake, modeling suggests that earthquakes on these faults can trigger tsunamis. Wave heights of these tsunamis are predicted to be on the order of 10 to 33 ft (3 to 10 m) in height, capable of traversing the lake in just a few minutes.[14] A massive collapse of the western edge of the basin that formed McKinney Bay around 50,000 years ago is thought to have generated tsunami/seiche wave with height approaching 330 ft (100 m).[15]
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-13-2009, 02:24 PM ZOMBIEinvader, you know you wanna go- just say so. LOL!
This is California - we have surfboards - no problemo friendo.
Should make for some excellent white water kayaking too. ;-)
Junebug 03-13-2009, 02:35 PM Why does someone always bring up earthquakes??
Either way I'm in. I won't join the chili cook-off, but there will be some cooking magic going on in my dutch oven for sure.
Just confirming, Gene, we're doing Friday the 11th through Thursday the 18th?
DJEMBE 03-13-2009, 02:38 PM I'm in.
I might have to work that Friday the 11th so I may be a Saturday arrival.
I could stay until Saturday the 19th.
Are you certain we don't need to reserve with a credit card now?
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-13-2009, 02:43 PM I'm in.

Senor Djembe - Yes I'm sure. It's a real easy proceedure. You pay when you get there.
The dates and Group Camp have been penciled in for us already.
Just need to send a $100 deposit which will be done later today or tomorrow.
You pay your individual campground fee for the Group Site when you get there.
The fees are collected per person (upon arrival) instead as a total for the group as a whole.
People pay only for the number of days that they want to stay and you can stay for as long or short as you like.
Easy as pie.

Glad to see you're giving Jet a break by not entering the Chili Cook Off - he'll have enough competition gunning for him as is.
I'm all over you cooking up magic in your enchanted Dutch Oven.
I'll be there with all the camp doggies begging for tid bits.
Yes indeed - the dates for this are Friday the 11th to Thursday the 17th.

Camptastic!
So, let me get this straight. We're doing Fri 11 SEPT 09 thru Thurs 17 SEPT 09.
(not the 18th) at a Group site where it will be only E's and there are unlimited number of spaces and we only need to deposit $100.00.
(What's wrong with this picture ?)
....
jdiane 03-13-2009, 03:44 PM (What's wrong with this picture ?)

Um, maybe we should invite a ridgeline to pull me out of whatever I get stuck in (again) when Paul convinces me to go offroading??? ;-)

Jet - The deposit secures both the Group Site and dates for us.
When arriving at the campground each of us (individually) will pay for the amount of nights (7) that we'll be staying for.
Should we decide to stay loner we can do that too. No problem at all.
Yes - this is a different proceedure than what we're used to but it keeps us from having to fork out a huge amount of up-front-money in advance.
I accept your challenge for the Chili Cook Off senor.
But be advised - they got some real fancy ass gourmet stores in the area for the best ingrediants to put in these stews.
I intend to win this contest!
Can we use the dogs as judges?
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-13-2009, 03:56 PM Um, maybe we should invite a ridgeline to pull me out of whatever I get stuck in (again) when Paul convinces me to go offroading??? ;-)
Maybe we can coerce Bill (outofd) to come along with Junebug from Washington.
He's got a Ridgeline and had to skip the Death Valley Trip.
He's due.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-13-2009, 04:16 PM Lake Type: Geological Block Faulting
Maximum Depth: 1,645 ft.
Average Depth: 1,000 ft.
Maximum Diameter: (north-south) 22 Miles
Minimum Diameter: (east-west) 12 Miles
Surface Area: 191 Square Miles
Average Surface Elevation: (above sea level) 6,224 ft.
Highest Peak: Freel Peak - 10,891 ft.
The Lake Tahoe Basin was formed by Geologic Block (normal) Faulting about 2-3 million years ago.
A Geological Block Faulting is a fracture in the Earth's crust causing blocks of land to move up and down.
Uplifted blocks created the Carson Range on the east and the Sierra Nevadas on the west -
drop down block created the Lake Tahoe Basin in between.
Some of the highest peaks of the Lake Tahoe Basin that formed during that process were Freel Peak at 10,891 ft. Monument Peak at 10,067 ft. (the present Heavely Valley Ski area), Pyramid Peak at 9,983 ft. (in the Desolation Wilderness) and Mt. Tallac at 9,735 ft.
Water temperature near the surface is 70 degrees during August and September.
Water clarity is an astonishing 70 ft.
Below a depth of 600-700 ft. the water temperature remains a constant 39 degrees!
If you were to drown in Lake Tahoe your body would never surface.
In fact it would remain unbloated and preserved at the bottom of the lake.
During the 30s and 40s many gangsters used Lake Tahoe as a place to dump bodies.
Remember the scene in the movie The Godfather II when Fredo got capped in the row boat on Lake Tahoe while fishing?
God only knows what lies at the botom of Lake Tahoe - Only Jacques Cousteau knows for sure and he wouldn't tell anybody.
In the mid 70's he took a submergable devise to bottom and found out.
All he would say about it was... "the world is not ready to see what's at the bottom of Lake Tahoe."
more on that later...
JsELEMENT 03-13-2009, 04:39 PM I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Jacques found "Crazy Tasty Town" down there...

Free_man_E 03-13-2009, 05:04 PM I'm in barring any disaster.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-13-2009, 05:21 PM It's a rather morbid topic, but it certainly opens up some interesting facts. Such as the fact that if a person were to drown in Lake Tahoe and not be rescued, his/her body would never rise to the surface as with most other aquatic environments.
Between the years of 1860 and 1874 early records indicate that a total of 14 people were drowned in the lake.
None of the bodies were recovered when the drownings occurred in deep water.
Many curious stories circulated in the 1870s and 1880's concerning the ultimate fate of those who disappeared in the depths of Tahoe.
In 1872 the San Francisco Bulletin solemnly assured its readers: "A corpse remains suspended and motionless (in Tahoe) at a depth of 200 feet and over, frozen stiff as though encased in a block of ice, and the great pressures encountered in the vast deep of the lake reduce an adult's body to that of a child's stature, exercising a clamping effect that holds the person in a viselike grip, preventing its rise to the surface."
Discarding conjecture and the fanciful, a sound, proven reason why bodies do not return to the surface of the lake is that corpses sinking into snow water, only a few degrees above freezing, do not decompose, as would normally be the case in warmer waters.
Thus gases are not formed which would cause them to inflate and rise to the surface.
It is conceivable that bodies are preserved in the watery abyss of Lake Tahoe much in the same manner as prehistoric mammals are found in massive ice floes after thousands of years of entrapment.
One final note about why bodies never make it back to the surface (of Tahoe anyway):
It has been reported that often times when divers disappear exploring many of the underwater caves on the western side of the lake, that their bodies turn up in other lakes as far away as Donner Lake.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-13-2009, 05:34 PM Tahoe has a bunch of very nice Nude Beaches.
(you know I wouldn't take you guys somewhere where there wasn't lots of interesting things to see and do)
Yes it's true - if you want to frolic about in your birthday suit in the sun all day, Lake Tahoe's Nude Beaches is the place you outta be!
Here's a list of them - where they're located and what to expect when you get there. http://www.sfbg.com/nudebeaches/tahoe.php

E_BikeR 03-13-2009, 06:15 PM What has happened to the redwoods?????? Why the change? We were planning our whole vacation around this for 2009, and the location was key to other visits in Oregon for us. Not sure if Tahoe is gonna cut it for us, as this changes everything.

Todd - We weren't able to secure the dates that we wanted for Humboldt.
None of the other campgrounds in the NorCal Redwoods were availble for Group Camping either.
Believe me, we tired everything, checked out every campground north of San Francisco and completely blanked out -
so we moved the whole thing to Lake Tahoe instead.
We'll be doing the Redwoods next year for sure.
Tahoe is in Northern California and not all that far from Oregon.
In fact you'de have to drive right by it to get to Humboldt anyway.
Don't be silly - you and Betsy should go to Tahoe with us - all your friends will be there!
And it has the best Mountain Biking you'll find anywhere...

Yeah, you have to understand, we thought the there was no question that we'd be at the redwoods this year. We were planning <everything> around this, more than just the camp out.
I am not a fan of Tahoe. My time there has felt overrun with people, and that was a BIG part of the appeal for the redwoods for us. I just don't know if we will make it at this point. Time will tell.
Bummer:-( Todd's not joining us

Todd - believe me we were all disappointed with how things turned out.
Humboldt was our first and only choice.
Everyone made plans around it.
We thought that we could reserve the same dates (week end after Labor Day) as we did the last time we were there.
But the park decided on closing the Group Campground early this year (immediately after Labor Day) for ADA renovations.
We were unpleasantly surprised and had no idea that this would happen. :-(
I hope that you guys can rearrange your plans and join us at Tahoe.

Junebug, I heard during our DV trip this year that you make killer scones. Are you going to make it this time? Chili cook off.....hmmmmm, maybe I will join the challenge!!! I will request my vacation days for Sept 11th through 17th.

That's the plan! They turned out well last time so I'm up for it again! Imperience and I are gonna work on the DO skillz at our Southern Oregon Coast campout in May too, so who knows what the other cool recipe(s) will be!
Ms Jet used the DO twice at DV. One night a Stroganoff (hmburger, sauce, noodles, sour cream) Yum. The next night she made an Apple Cobbler that needed ala mode but alas, it was Death Valley so we enjoyed it with-out.
...Note to self: Bring old fashioned Hand Crank Ice Cream Maker to Tahoe. :)

bikerjosh 03-14-2009, 01:21 PM Sign me up at least Friday through Sunday. Looking forward to it.

What Chef James said.
chefjames 03-15-2009, 01:33 PM Wow, a lot of So Cal people are going this time. Looks like its going to be a lot of fun caravaning to Lake Tahoe.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-15-2009, 01:49 PM Wow, a lot of So Cal people are going this time. Looks like its going to be a lot of fun caravaning to Lake Tahoe.
Yup, and it's a fantastic drive along the eastern slopes of the Sierras.
A long ride too but well worth it.
But the caravan will need an early start.
We're talking about leaving Mojave by no later than 4:00 AM to beat the fry pan heat of the desert.
You won't want to be driving through the Mojave Desert after sun up if you can help it.
At 7:00 AM the Caravan we'll be in Bishop for breakfast at "Erick Schat's Dutch Bakery" which serves up the most incredible bakery items this side of Holland!
The place is world famous.

chefjames 03-15-2009, 04:50 PM yikes...4 am....I guess I will stay at my friend's place the night before :lol:
bikerjosh 03-15-2009, 04:54 PM Sounds like a great drive. Makes me want to start from southern california rather than NOrthern. Haha:cool:
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-15-2009, 09:52 PM yikes...4 am....I guess I will stay at my friend's place the night before :lol:
That is a bit early now isn't it?
OK then, depart Mojave by 5:00 AM at the latest! :D
So long as we get to Schat's Bakery in Bishop by 8:00 AM we should be cool.
The caravan's objective is to be at the campground in Lake Tahoe by early afternoon.
If need be, people can always take naps once they get there.
imperience 03-15-2009, 10:27 PM Reserve me a spot on the end. I think the Subie is friendly toward Elements but I'm really not sure yet...
Junebug 03-15-2009, 11:18 PM Hey Gene, do you happen to know the parking setup at the group camp? Like ... will I be able to deploy my magic SUV tent? Not all sites accommodate it and I'd rather not pack it if not!
I'll be near imperience's end if necessary. :D
Ms Jet 03-16-2009, 12:20 AM Thanks Gene for explaining bout all the creepy dead bodies in Lake Tahoe. Reminder to self: don't go kayaking in lake tahoe  what if I look down and see a tiny frozen white suspended person! I know they are really DEEP but still just the thought of all those people down there is creepy.
Ok nuf of that. I'm really sorry that Betsy and Todd won't be able to make it. whaaaaaaaa.
Also, does anyone know that David and I met and fell in love just 25 minutes from Tahoe at Soda Springs? Does anyone want to caravan to the old Myers homestead at Serene Lakes?) This trip will bring back a lot of fond memories.
Junebug: I look forward to scones again. They are awesome!

I am fine either way....Mojave desert, are we going to meet in front of Stater's Brother again?
Are we going to do any off roading adventures there??? If we are..hmmm, full size spare this time for me I think :lol:

The last time we camped here we were in the main campground with individual camp sites.
We used the group camp showers while we were there because no one was camping there at the time and the showers were a lot nicer.
As was the rest of the Group Camp.
This Group Camp is different than most and it's rather difficult to describe.
It's isolated away from the main campground complex (this is a sprawlingly big place)
I can't remember much about the parking lay out.
Camping sections or specific sites are difficult to discribe.
Basically you'll be in the middle of a Ponderosa Pine forest that goes way back deep into the woods.
http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=21531&d=1156187883
You'll set your campsite up and park your vehicle in between the trees, in small open areas or anwhere you like.
There's a small private bathroom building with showers and sinks.
Other restroom and shower facilties in the main campground are available as well.
There's a large circle shaped, central hang out area with a big stone fire pit in the middle of it with stationary stone benches around that.
Then there's an enormus open air cook house and inside are sinks, large, deep, built-in-BBQ grills , electrical outlets, counters, lighting and I believe some sort of stove.
still editing...
So it's not part of the Tahoe National Forrest or the National Park System.
Are there Bear Boxes that require us to store our edibles?
Duffy wants to know about the Wolves/Coyotes vs Dogs, what's the score?
Have there been any "Saquatch" sightings lately?
....What time do the Casinos open?
....
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-16-2009, 11:30 AM Jet - The campground is on private land that extends into El Dorado National Forest.
There are no bear boxes here and no recent Sashquatch sightings either.
However, here's a rare bear sighting captured on video at the Tahoe Valley Campground. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpsK4bfrxbc
Casinos are open 24/7

There is a starbucks about five blocks away, I think that attracts any local bears...
The campground is really nice, but it is right outside south lake tahoe so the wildlife is mainly concentrated around the casinos :D
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-16-2009, 01:28 PM More on the campground.
The group area we'll be camping in is on the far perimeter of this gargantuan private campground -
which features both RV and tent camping grounds.
The tenters are far removed from the RVers and the group area is even further removed from both.
Tahoe Valley CG is so large that it's never completely full except on 3 day holiday week ends when it swells up to it's maximum capacity.
Practically no one is here after Labor Day and aside from a few RVs way off beyond where we'll be camping, along with a few folks in the tent camping section. (also quite enormus)
We'll be isolated.
We also have access to all the ammenities at Tahoe Valley.
They include a ...
* Campstore
* Laundry w/a video arcade game room next door
* Swimming Pool
* Outdoor Ping Pong Tables
* Tennis & Basketball Courts
* Horseshoe Pits
* A free Shuttle Bus Service from the campground to and from the gaming casinos a few miles away at Stateline, Nevada
This is a dog friendly place too.
There's a dog walk area for the fidos if you wanted to use it or you can just walk them around the campgrounds.
But because this place is in the woods on private land you can walk them anywhere you like.
This place is so large you might want to bring a bike just to get around in it.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-16-2009, 02:06 PM Thanks Gene for explaining bout all the creepy dead bodies in Lake Tahoe. Reminder to self: don't go kayaking in lake tahoe  what if I look down and see a tiny frozen white suspended person! Junebug: I look forward to scones again. They are awesome!
Jeannie - LOL!
Don't worry about dead bodies in Lake Tahoe.
They're down below 1,000 ft, will never surface and it's too cold down there for them decompose.
There's rumored to be bodies down there but no one has actually seen any.
But if the idea of bodies suspended near the bottom of Lake Tahoe still creeps you out -
there's many other big and small lakes in the immediate vacinity at your beckoning whim.
Fallen Leaf Lake, Cascade Lake, Echo Lake, Spooner Lake, are large nearby jewels and easily accessable.
There are numerous, jaw droppingly lovely, remote, high alpine lakes in the area too.
Tamarack, Lake of the Woods, Heather Lake, Lake Aloha, Azure Lake, Snow Lake, Half Moon Lake, Upper-Middle-Lower Velma Lakes and Stony Ridge Lake to name a few.
Most of the alpine lakes require some hiking to get to but some of these lakes -
such as Upper and Lower Angora Lakes can be driven to.
There are more lakes here than I can count and all of them are absolutely beautiful.
There's rivers too! (more on them later)
Hiking here is simply amazing and if you're into it, you couldn't ask for a better hiking enviornment.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-16-2009, 02:53 PM This is your video information page.
It will feature videos of the various recreational activities and happenings in and around the Lake Tahoe area.

Miss Ellie & Co. 03-16-2009, 05:47 PM Perhaps you want to go to Tahoe and hang with your EOC buds -
but you're not the out-door type and prefer more posh and primpy accomadations?
Well don't let that scare you away from going.
There's so many hotels, motels, B&Bs and casinos at Tahoe that your arm would fall off trying to shake a stick them all.
It will be the begining of the off-season too, so rates should be cheaper and there are places to stay in Tahoe to fit any budget.
My sister wants to go but her hubs abhors camping - so they'll be staying at one of the casinos instead.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-16-2009, 06:53 PM Reserve me a spot on the end. I think the Subie is friendly toward Elements but I'm really not sure yet...
Good idea Andy - not that your Subie wouldn't get along with all of the other Elements or anything like that, but we were looking for a volunteer vehicle to put on the far end of the encampment to use as bear bait and be first in line for after midnight critter encounters.
"U-DA-MAN!"
And from the look's of it you won't be alone either.
It appears that Junebug's looking for some action camping adventures too.
The two of you guys camped next to each other cooking out of Dutch Ovens will put long lingering aromas of wonderful food into the air.
You guys should be able to get some after-dark local visitors.
Free_man_E 03-16-2009, 09:34 PM My coworker suggested a ride on the M.S. Dixie II or the Tahoe Queen
sternwheeler boats.

Junebug 03-16-2009, 10:12 PM Is it too early to start Monday night camp chats? :D
Is it ever too early? Do they ever really stop? Some of us are going in like eight weeks!
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-16-2009, 10:22 PM Fine with me. Let's start tonight. At 8:00 PM like we usually do.
I'll be there after dinner.
chefjames 03-17-2009, 01:44 AM Well, looks like I will miss pretty much all of the monday night chat. Need to work on Monday night now. Keep me updated.
chefjames 03-19-2009, 12:11 AM I know there might be two different camping trips going on at this time. How many are still interested going to Lake Tahoe?
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-19-2009, 12:16 PM The Lake Tahoe camping trip is still on but it's been decided to hold off on forking over any up-front security deposit money for the group camp until we have a better handle as to how many people will be going.
Until the dust settles on the Redwoods vs. Tahoe competing camping trips (both of which are on the same dates)
It makes no sence to reserve the group site if there's only a few people intending to go.
In luie of that; there's plenty of very nice "indivdual" campsites at this campground available should that become the case -
It would also be cheaper per person as folks could double up in the individual campsites at a split cost of $16 per night.
Reservations for those individual sites is not pressing and can be made at any time.
Elemen-O-P 03-19-2009, 12:20 PM Alrighty!! Me, Lacy and the Zoe monster are in for this since we already had the time blocked off for Humboldt (may its return next year be grand!).
This'll be an exceptionally special trip for our clan, since Tahoe Valley Campground is the first place we camped with the EOC camping fools. <tear>
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j242/Demonsport/EOC%20Campout/CampE.jpg
And as usual, I'll be packing my regular assortment of off-road trail maps to test some attributes of the E and their owners. Things like:
1) see how deep we can bury jdiane's E
2) test chefjame's full size spare
3) who can tolerate the music from Deliverance being piped over the radios when they come across that random cabin in the woods.
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j242/Demonsport/EOC%20Campout/IMG_1228.jpg
chefjames 03-19-2009, 12:31 PM Nice pictures Elemen O-P. Based on your second picture that you posted, that road looked a lot better then what we encountered at Titus Canyon. I guess part of my tax return money will go towards a full size spare :lol:
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-19-2009, 12:35 PM Yeah Elemen-O-P! :D
The Tahoe Valley Campground in Lake Tahoe really is a pretty cool campground and I'm thrilled to be going back there.
If the peeps who are trying to find a reasonable equivilant to it in the Redwoods cannot - they'll still have Tahoe to fall back on.
The Poll currently indicates "15" campers - with a few of them currently exploring Humboldt options.
It's still early and more EOCers will climb on board for the Tahoe trip between now and it's September dates.
Elemen-O-P 03-19-2009, 02:41 PM For anyone who wasn't there the first time...here's a link (http://s82.photobucket.com/albums/j242/Demonsport/EOC%20Campout/) to my pics from that campout.
and here's the photo dump (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26660), which has a play-by-play feel to it, since the campground has wi-fi.
Also, since it really hasn't been decided whether to lockdown the redwoods or the lake... I guess its safer to say that, Lacy and I are in, wherever the group ends up....just don't change the dates. :D
Dr. Farther 03-19-2009, 03:04 PM wherever the group ends up....just don't change the dates. :D[/QUOTE]

Same for Doc and Farther. Either place is great, but the dates are locked in.

"looked" is the operative word.;-) Thats my old E just before I got her so stuck in the sand, all four wheels were spewing dirt all over the road! :???:
Titus was a breeze compared to that! :)

Josh
motelE 03-20-2009, 11:20 PM I'm sticking with Tahoe. It's closer for me. Even if we break up into two groups we can still have a great time, just in two different places. No big deal. Gene you've done a good job.
:):)
chefjames 03-21-2009, 01:34 AM I will stick with Tahoe as well.
JsELEMENT 03-21-2009, 01:46 AM I will put up the deposit for tahoe. Even if its just a couple of us I think its worth it. We cant wait for this trip.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-21-2009, 10:59 AM The camground that we're using is very cool and as far as wicked fun stuff to do goes -
Tahoe's got that covered no matter what your passions are.
Thanks Motel E for the accolade.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-21-2009, 11:10 AM I will put up the deposit for tahoe. Even if its just a couple of us I think its worth it. We cant wait for this trip.
Might take you up on that offer Jeremy. :)
Thanks for stepping up - very commendable! :D
Indeed - this trip is going be one massive goodtime.
JsELEMENT 03-21-2009, 11:12 AM Just let me know...
chefjames 03-21-2009, 11:33 AM Thanks Jeremy for the deposit.
I am willing to share a spot if the group site is not available.....
Mels E 03-21-2009, 12:44 PM Sorry I did not log in for a few days (normal for me), a lot can happen here fast. The Lake Tahoe Deposit I did a few days ago, I did not realize the split on the E camping spot, oh my. :-o
I would have gone to Humboldt in a flash if we could get the group site, but we were out of luck with the retrofit. However we are going there next year! If I have to I will drive there and put the deposit down for annual 2nd week in Sept trip next year. That group spot is the best, why settle for anything less. So if some go there this year it may be fun, but not the "premo spot". I have never seen a better camp spot where it is just us, it is worth the wait. Plus Lake Tahoe gives us variety, tis a bummer of course cuz so many of us had plans and visions of the redwoods including myself.
I am bummed cuz I live only a few miles from where many of you last year (Marin County) spent the night in a hotel on your way up from the "Southlands". I was out of town when all came thru so could not offer a place to hang and sleep (plus I did not know how cool all the "camping fools" are). However, I was going to do that this year, a big BBQ and sleepover with all those that came in a "E" on the drive up to the big treee's. We have a Costco, TJoes, REI and "IN and Out" burger within a rocks throw so it would have been a good spot for stocking up, but that will have to wait for the following year. So put that in the plans for 2010 for the trip to the trees.
I hope we can all camp together as it is the being in a group of "E"s that makes any trip and location the funnest. But we all have to understand that some made plans with the Humboldt location in mind for this year.
Dr. Farther 03-21-2009, 02:10 PM In spite of LOVING that group camp spot at Humboldt and feeling disappointed it's not available this year, Farther and I plan to see y'all at Tahoe .... with Teardrop, Corgis, and banjo! We too want to camp together with other "E"s because that's what makes it such fun.
It's our hope everyone can make it together to a group campground next year; this year, it's not to be.
Appreciate your efforts, Miss Ellie & Co! If there's a need for cash up front, let us know.
Doc
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-21-2009, 05:52 PM Doc Farther and clan have a teardrop?!? Woo-Hoo!
Bet the corgis love that huh? :)
If you need hook-ups for it they have them at the campground.
I'm trying to find a map of the campground - I have one from the last time we camped there.
Just need to go find the dang thing which is buried somewhere in the garage.
Hey, I just found that campground map - but no scanner at home.
Can I land-mail it to someone who has one and they can post it on this tread?
Farthers - If you guys want or need hook-ups, campsite numbers 480 - 481 -483 - 484 are the closest to the group camp.
There's nothing between them and the group camp other than Ponderosa Pines - with easy walking access to and fro.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-21-2009, 06:01 PM Mels E - great post. :)
Thanks for taking care of the deposit - everything's looking very good then.
Wave Runners:
Rented a pair of them at Tahoe and wow was that ever phenominal fun!
Followed the M.S. Dixie II around the lake, found some secret coves and hidden beaches - 71 miles of shore line.

jdiane 03-21-2009, 07:02 PM Change my vote to no. the bigger the EOC campouts, the less I enjoy them. :-(
We're getting an individual campsite at burilington in the redwoods-- camped there before and it is nice.:) gotta spend some time with family in Eureka as well (a cousin has a mid-80s VW vanagan that matches my TRP :D)
chefjames 03-22-2009, 10:58 AM How much is the deposit?? Perhaps we can share....let me know :-):-)

Nice, another ABM joining the camping trip...wow, looks like ABM is a popular color among our group....there were 3 ABMs during the DV trip :lol::lol:
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-22-2009, 11:11 AM Diane - I always wanted to camp there with the Misses, it's a enchanting and quite place.
A not so good place for larger camp gatherings that tend to get noisy - the rangers do frown upon that there.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-22-2009, 11:15 AM How much is the deposit?? Perhaps we can share....let me know :-):-)
The deposit was $100 and Mels E (Melainie) has taken care of that. :D
We'll all reimburse her once we get up to the lake.

Miss Ellie & Co. 03-22-2009, 08:15 PM Here's the campground map.
I found it in the original 2006 EOC Tahoe Trip thread.
Hey! - hold the phone! WTF happened to the campground map !?!?

Surveillance photo shows trickster black dog suspected of hi-jacking campground map.
Missing Map:
Last night the Tahoe Valley Campground map mysteriously went south.. poof! Vanished!
Dang if know what might of happened to it.
Later in the evening a rascally Black Lab that goes by the name of Obi was seen sniffing around in the vacinity of this post.
Knowing the owner of this dog as I do - there are no doubts that the dog's owner would put him up to something like this.
Obi always wanted to visit Lake Tahoe and missed the 2006 trip. ;-)
Therefore - Obi and his owner "Box4Rox" are once again cordially invited to attend another EOC Lake Tahoe trip.
I'll try graft, bribery, dead bunnys and bacon bits to get the map back from Obi the dog if he's got it. (I really miss that dog)
But if Box4Rox has it - more nefarious actions may be required in getting it back. (Heck - I miss him too)
Failing all that it's back to the original plan for posting the campground map.
Anyone got a scanner?
Miss Ellie & Co. Here's the map of the campground.
You can see the location of the group camp which is off by itself in the lower left area of the map.
Was that your left or my left ?

Miss Ellie & Co. 03-23-2009, 01:37 PM Just sent you a PM.
How bout it Box?
Any chance of you and Obi attending this camping gig?
Pretty Please?

Don't remove the photo from the original post - I enjoy looking at any Obi pics.
If you can locate the map please put it on seperate post along with one of you wearing nothing but a racoon tail hat.
You'de be a big hit at the "clothing optional" beaches of Lake Tahoe with an outfit like that.

You're looking good as usual Box.
Thanks for the detailed map - but where's Mickey & Minnie's Nude Beach?
( ever wonder why they've never been seen wearing any underwear ? )
Box4Rox 03-23-2009, 02:17 PM Ok . . . after discussing this with my dog, we've decided that Junebug must ask "pretty please" for the lost campground map . . . :)

Good luck trying to get a "pretty please" out of her.
She's not on-line at the moment - probably away from her computer figuring out a way to make a complete Easter Dinner in a Dutch Oven.
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-25-2009, 12:46 PM It's not just the lake - there's a beautiful river here too.
We'll camping in South Lake Tahoe but it's a mighty big lake and the Truckee River in North Lake Tahoe has some very kewl things going on too.
Along side the Truckee is a wonderful paved bike path.
Bring a fishing rod and pedal to where the fishies are - or rent a raft and have yourself a delightful, kicked back float excursion - some mild rapids here too and very nice for kayaking.
Tons of fun things to do here!

My new avatar is a Singapore Sling - the ultimate tropical mixed drink and too delicous to try and discribe with words.
Imperience and I propose it as the Signature Drink for our Tahoe trip.
The Sling is a complicated drink and seldom (if ever) made to it's original recipe standard but when it is you couldn't ask for a more tantalizing mixed beverage.
Warning: they can be dangerous - it's impossible to have less than two of them and they are potent.
But oh are they ever good!

Miss Ellie & Co. 03-25-2009, 01:20 PM Group dining at Tahoe's local restaurants:
During our last Tahoe trip we did two of them.
Sammy Haggar's Cabo Wabo Cantina inside Harveys Casino
(I'd go back to Sammy's in a heartbeat - a great lively atmoshphere with really good Mexican food)
The other restaurant we ate was a small Italian place not far from the campground.
Both were good but there's many more eateries to choose from.
Tahoe has restaurants to fit any budget and we must all go out to dinner at least once while we're there.
Here's a list of 125 of them w/reviews - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g155987-Lake_Tahoe_California.html

Junebug 03-25-2009, 04:58 PM you are SO EASY ;-)
1. I've been called worse.
2. I'm not proud. ;)
3. After much thought, I'm opting out of this trip. Would have been nice to see Tahoe and all the camping fools again, but I've taken a hard look at my limited vacation hours for this year. The Memorial Day campout will be my "big Element trip" for 2009.
4. Darn tootin' I'm sure you all will have an excellent time, and I'll be stalking your photos and updates when you're there!
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-25-2009, 05:55 PM Awww shucks!
Sorry you won't be going Junebug but I understand.
Tahoe would of been a very long haul for you.
If you can swing it; maybe you can hook up with E-Biker and jdiane in the Redwoods.
That's much closer to you than Tahoe is.
Your Memorial Day camping trip look's like great fun too.
Wish I could attend that one too, but like you our vacation time is limited to one trip this summer - Lake Tahoe.
Might be the following summer until we can all get together again - Humboldt Redwoods 2010
(my how time flies)
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-25-2009, 06:23 PM Hello aren't you supposed to air down tires for that. JK. I do carry a compressor though that anyone is welcome to use.

Josh
That's pretty much how things were the last time we were at Tahoe.
It's all good.
In the morning everyone would split off into groups with different recreational pursuits.
Itinerarys varied; Some folks went kayaking, other's went Mt. Biking, hikers went off on amazing hikes, the fishheads go fishing, others' went shopping, a few daredevils went on off road excusions, a lot of people went casino hopping, other's criused around the lake.
Another popular activity was hanging at the campground and lounging by the pool with a good book.
Every day there was something new to do!
Folks would roll back into the campground by the late afternoon and early evening - take showers, clean up and enjoy the evening eating dinner, hanging out around the campfire, sharing the day's adventures and planning new ones for the next.
Just a whole lot of good great fun.
chefjames 03-25-2009, 07:12 PM Looks like fun!!!! Wait, we can take shower there???? Do we need to sneak in like the one in DV :D:D? Well, I walked in, no one was there to check on me.
Is it cheap to buy food there to cook? Because I don't want to carry a week of food supply with me to Tahoe, unless its expensive there like DV.

No need to worry.
Full restrooms with showers are at the campground - free - open 24 hrs.
Buying food is something you can easily do when you get there.
There are markets to fit any budget for anything you want or need.
Even cheaper bargins in Gardnerville, Nevada on the other side of the Kingsbury Grade.
(about an hours drive from camp)
chefjames 03-25-2009, 11:27 PM thanks Gene...I don't think I will drive an hr to buy food, unless we just happen to pass by there.
I will bring my mountain bike this time, and perhaps go onto a off road adventure (hopefully someone will join me)
Are we going to do potluck, gift exchange, and cd exchange as well?
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-26-2009, 11:16 AM James - matter of fact, we'll be driving right through it.
Gardnerville is the last really big town on the road to Tahoe.
Yes - bring your bike! You'll be kickin-yer-self-in-da-butt if you don't.
The best cycling and biking anywhere.
Gag Gifts, CD Exchange, Chili Cook Off, Pot Luck too.

Looking like we're going to have an awful lot fun once again.
Can't get enough of the stuff!
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-27-2009, 12:24 PM Here's a quick video drive from South Lake Tahoe to Bridgeport, Ca.
(83 miles or about 1/5 of the distance from SoCal)
Then a second video from Bridgeport to Mammoth.
The total drive from Los Angeles to Lake Tahoe going north on US 395 is 440 miles/ 8 hrs. not including pit stops.

It's never too early for questions James. :)
If there is a semi in front of us - not a problem.
This is a wide open route in open country with mucho passing lanes and not much traffic to speak of.
We'll blow right by any semi's or RVs.
The caravan is going to meet in Mojave - in the exact same place where the Death Valley caravan started.
It's a long, beautiful drive.
Leaving Mojave by 4:00 - 5:00 AM will get you to Tahoe by early afternoon.
PS: It could turn into a 10 hr. road trip anyway - we've include some excellent stops along the way for breakfast and lunch.
Add to that; lot's of astonishing scenery that will have people going ga-ga and snapping photos all along the way.
Dr. Farther 03-27-2009, 01:47 PM [QUOTE=Miss Ellie & Co.;737117]It's never too early for questions James. :)

I don't suppose the caravan could swing by Yreka?
Anyone coming through the actual/geographically real/true northern California?
A northern caravan could take I-5 south, then go west from Sacramento. (If no caravan, we might try the drive through Susanville and Reno).
Elemen-O-P 03-27-2009, 01:55 PM Just thought I'd post a satellite shot of the campground for any of you that might question its remoteness...which it isn't.
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j242/Demonsport/Miscellaneous/Untitled-2.jpg
I really want to bring my bike to ride along that path on the Truckee river after watching that vid...guess I'll have to buy Lacy a new ride too.

Hey Doc,
I bet some folks are would be interested in a NorCal caravan.
It's a wonderful ride from there to Tahoe as well. :D
I've driven that route from Redding through Susanville to Reno.
Just another great road trip!
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-27-2009, 03:03 PM Elemen-O-P ~ nice aireal map of the campground location.
It gives people who've not been there before a bird's eye view.
The campground is close to town and all of it's coveniences yet far enough away too.
The size of the campground and it's surrounding acreage is huge.
You will not feel put apon by civilization here.
The Truckee River Bike Path looks great huh?
I suspect that the fish are everywhere and if it gets to hot you can take a dip in the river.
I'm really looking forward to doing that.
Indeed - get Lacy her bike!
PS: Jet informs me that he's bring a Old Fashion Ice Cream Maker (the wooden crank job kind) but make sure Lacy brings her Ice Cream Roller Ball.
That thing was hysterical fun!
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-27-2009, 03:34 PM is a good site for general info about Lake Tahoe.
Click on the link: http://www.aboutlaketahoe.com/
Make sure you open "Eye Candy" on the left side of the home page.
You'll find some great photos there.
chefjames 03-29-2009, 12:39 PM Thanks Gene for the info....looks like I will be spending a night at my friend's place in Pasadena the night before.
5 more months to go...this is going to be very brutal.
slosport 03-30-2009, 04:21 PM So do we have a group campground?
Or do we have to get our own?
Love you guys,
Marilyn
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-30-2009, 06:23 PM Hello Slosport!
It's about time you surfaced - I was begining to wonder about you.
Yes we have a Group Camp with plenty of space and very nice ammenities.
Ted should have a good time -
our Camp Dog list is growing by leaps and bounds with many K-9 representatives on hand to assure hysterical fun and plenty of stupid dog tricks.
I think there's at least 7 dogs attending this one - all of whom informed me that they'll be bringing thier mischievous owners with them too.
(can't leave the owners alone at home without sitters)
As for you Marilyn, there's lot's of crystal clear blue waters to play in - so count on a great time.
We're all going to have a tremendous amount of fun and I am personally thrilled that you will be there!
slosport 03-31-2009, 01:10 PM I'm so glad you are thrilled!:D
Since I'm thrilled to see you all again too.
You know how I feel about WATER.
Ted is a year and 7months now and much more experienced.
I think he'll have a lot more fun as long as we don't have a thunderstorm.
He goes into the ocean almost up to his back. [/SIZE]
As we get closer lets meet in the chat room.

NV_05_AWD 04-05-2009, 11:31 AM Chef,
Carson City has all the big box stores..... Wally world, Safeway, Raley's Costco etc.... Gardnerville is a lot smalller.
slosport 04-05-2009, 02:09 PM Are we doing a Tahoe meet instead of the Redwoods meet?
Miss Ellie & Co. 04-06-2009, 11:14 AM Are we doing a Tahoe meet instead of the Redwoods meet?
Yes we are.
It turned out that the group campground at Humboldt Redwoods would be closed for ADA renovations on the dates that we needed.
No one wanted to reschedule for an earlier date so Lake Tahoe (which has a Group Camp and is available on the dates we needed) was selected as the alternative location.

Great, I'd rather go to Tahoe...I've never been camping their just skiing once.
It is closer to me too. And alot of water for Ted and me.
Gene, you'll have to be my swimming buddy, I know you love it.

Dr. Farther 04-06-2009, 12:36 PM As much as I love ocean beaches, neither of us has been to Tahoe and are getting excited to be there! The Corgis say they're never been there either and are anxious to get going.

Tahoe is awesome.
Richelle and I have gone numerous times - nothing there other than endless amounts of stupendous outdoor fun.
Aside from "Big Blue" there are many other extrodinary lakes for top notch swimming, fishing, kayaking and playing.
Not too far from where we'll be are a series of extrodinary high alpine lakes which you can drive to that overlook the entire Tahoe Basin.
The campground is a sprawling acreage of Ponderosa Pines with lot's of shade.
It has all the creature comfort and ammenities that women insist on.
Anything that you may need, want or desire is within a short easy distance from the campground.
PS: Yes Aqua Woman, as always I remain and will be your swimming buddy.
Will you jump off the rocks with me?

You and the Corgis are in for something extrodinary.
Lake Tahoe is one of the world's most beautiful lakes (6,500 ft.elevation)
and sits in a basin surrounded by mountain ranges with peaks as high as 12,000 ft.
The lake water is mostly snow melt with 62 watersheds flowing down into it.
There are streams, creeks and rivers and numerous other lakes everywhere in the area.
There will be an EOC Dog Show too with competitive contests that will feature each dog's unique characteristics and every dog will win a prize.
Here's a list of some of the catagories - suggestions are welcomed so feel free to come up with more.

You cannot enter yourself or someone else.
But if you can scratch behind your ear with your foot or possess the skills to stick your nose up your butt we might reconsider.

Rosie figures she's got the 'Best Face Licker' in the bag, and Jack says he's definitely in the running for Most Happy and Best Beggar. Both said they're sure no one will notice their lack of tails and are busy practicing how to wag their butts.
Miss Ellie & Co. 04-07-2009, 12:39 AM Unless Slosport has kept him off the horse trails . . .
"Teddy" will be tough to beat in the "Worst Breath" catagory. ;-)
Go Teddy!
Just added a new catagory...
"Best Butt Waggers"
Go Jack & Rosie!

Go Teddy!
Teddy has been practicing his "Cow Pie" eating skills at our local doggie park.
He also does an Ostridge imitation by Digging a hole and hiding his head inside.
He has a great imitation for a rabbit as he hops thru the high grass.
His latest trick is biting my butt when he wants to play.
Gene, yes I will jump off a lower cliff with you.
We have to find some fool to do it first to make sure it is safe.
I love those small high mountain lakes, they are usually crystal clear and freezing!
Are we suppose to ask for a certain site number or is it first come gets the site of their choice?
Miss Ellie & Co. 04-07-2009, 04:05 PM Can't wait to see Teddy again - looking forward to it!
The Group Campground dates have already been secured for us by Melainie. (a $100 and we'll all reimburse her once we get to camp)
Once you arrive at the campground you'll be charged a $21 per night fee to camp.
There are no specific sites at the group camp - you'll pitch your tent anywhere you like amoung the Ponderosa Pines.
No forest undergrowth between the trees, it's most pine needles, a few ferns and flat.
Also included is an open sided stonework, gazebo style, Cook House w/BBQ Pits, sinks, running water, electricity and wrap around counters.
The group camp has it's own restrooms and showers and a circular gathering area with a huge fire pit w/ benches and tables.
I know you will like it.

Here's a video of some cliff jumping at Angora Lakes - I will play it safe and stay under 20' with the ladies.
Don't want to end up with my kahonas stuffed up my yin yang.
In the video some people are jumping from 70 feet. YIKES! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xb1F9b-jWe4
Angora Lakes:
Is a collection of small lakes about 1,200 ft. above Fallen Leaf Lake and Lake Tahoe.
The lakes are named after a herd of Angora Goats that used to graze the area.
To reach Angora Lakes you drive to it.
From our campground Lake Tahoe Blvd. to Tahoe Mountain Road - turn left and climb to the top of a one-lane road and look for a sign reading "1214"
From there an at times steep and at times paved road leads to fantastic vistas and ends at the Angora Lakes parking lot.
There's a short 1 mile up hill hike to the lakes.
The road to the lower parking lot (there's a tiny resort here) is open aproximately May 1st - Oct 1st during which the resort may be accessed by foot. At the resort a small snack bar serves sandwiches, world famous lemonade and ice cream.
During summer it can be crowed and not a place to get away from people.
But we'll be there after Labor Day when the area is emptied from the usual summer crowds.
Angora Lakes is a great place to spend the day and should be on everyone's list of things to do at Lake Tahoe.
You will also find the quickest hiking trail to Echo Peak from here.
Disclaimer:
Jumping into Alpine lakes has inherent dangers regardless of water depth.
People break bones every year jumping into Angora Lakes without hitting anything but water.
motelE 04-07-2009, 09:10 PM If I could get her to do it on command Vickie would win "Most Stinky". Maybe feed her a load of black beans before the contest.

hpycmprII 04-22-2009, 01:42 PM Hello everyone,
My husband and I would like to attend the 2009 Jamboree. I have downloaded all the map info. My concern is what you require from us (to make sure there would be a campsite) as we cannot commit 100%. We have an ill family member who we would instantly change our plans for and September is a long ways away so there is no predicting.
We have no concern with the 40hr drive as that would be an adventure to us and feel this would be a great finish to our summer camping. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks so much, K.
Miss Ellie & Co. 04-22-2009, 02:18 PM Hello Karen,
Heck - we love Canadians! :)
Most of the EOC Camping Fools are Californians but we are familiar with things that are made in Canada too.
Example: we have a well loved, transplanted California canuck member (originally from Toronto) who's attended all of our camping trips.
It would be way kewl if you guys made it to the Lake Tahoe Campathon.
We'll add you to the list of distinguished EOC dignitaries and camp dogs attending this amazing gig.
You will have a blast - there's no doubt about it and if you've never been to Lake Tahoe before - prepare for something most incredible!
All you have to do is get to Tahoe.
There's no need to bother with reservations either...
We've secured ourselves a Group Camp at very good campground.
Just show up - fees are $21 per day and you pay that upon arrival.
Most everyone attending will be here for 7 days and nights but you can stay as long or short as you like. :D
Just holler if you need additional info or have more questions.

Sorry bout that Marilyn and it's too late to edit the Teddy correction.
However; this may explain Box4Rox's clinical observation that Teddy may need to see a pyschatrist.
I will no longer refer to Teddy as "Teddy the Silly Shih Tzu."
From here on out he'll be known as "Crazy Teddy the Lhasa Apsa Poodle."

Ted the Lhasapoo or Lots of poo is a doll.
He has his funny puppy ways.
Now that he is a year and 9 months he has calmed down a bit but is still unpredictable which makes him fun and a little crazy like his mom.
He has many names around here with his doggie friends. Mud Pup..Toy Thief..Cow Pie Finder.. and the Love Pup to name a few.
He and I are looking forward to our next EOC adventures.
Anyone coming up my way such let me know.
We love visitors.:D

Miss Ellie & Co. 06-01-2009, 04:56 PM That's great news Free Man E!
Can we add you to the SoCal 300 mile E-Caravan from Mojave to Lake Tahoe?
It's gonna be one fantastic 10 hr drive!
At this point the caravan consists a total of 6-7 Elements.
Other Elements (we have total of 18 at last count) are coming from Central & Northern California and places beyond.
I am confident that more EOCers will be signing up for the Tahoe trip as we go through the summer. :D

We're staying at the same campground this year and if people want to see more of it, they'll have to attend the gig!!

Miss Ellie & Co. 06-02-2009, 11:14 AM I hope to caravan with everyone. Where will you be meeting up in the wee hours on the 11th?
Miss Vickie is healed & ready to go. I'd have my bags packed but I have to have something to wear to work. Saving up my vacation $$$, keeping fingers crossed gas prices don't skyrocket.:cool:
5:00 AM at Stater Bros parking lot in Mojave - same location we used for Death Valley Caravan back in February. :)
Free_man_E 06-02-2009, 12:34 PM That's great news Free Man E!
I'm planning on it. :) Barring any major disaster.
Elemen-O-P 06-02-2009, 02:32 PM for anyone who is going and wants to see the rip roaring time we had the last time the EOC invaded Tahoe, here's the link to my pics from that event.

Teddy would go for a poolside massage but I'd go for the pedicure and a great foot rub;shoulders too.
I might have to get one today just to get ready.
You are a great planner you think of everything.
I'll bring cornmeal to coat the trout. That is how my Dad did it. It was yummy!
Miss Ellie & Co. 06-03-2009, 02:08 PM Heck - I'm just getting started here...
Not in the mood to cook and too lazy to go get something?
We can have scrumptous gourmet pizzas delivered directly to the campsite.
How's a group camp pizza feast sound to you?
We can all get stuffed on pizzas one night and top that off with a visit to the casinos.

E_BikeR 06-07-2009, 02:15 PM Been thinking about how I'm gonna miss out on the big camp trip this year, so I got to looking at this location, and seems like it's right in the line of fire from the airport and highway. Anyone else notice this???

Todd - What you're really going to miss out on is a very good time.
So no one told you that the campground is on the runway at the SLT airport huh? LOL
The campground is the property adjason the the airport - which is for small planes and not very busy.
It's not much of an airport - more like an airstrip.
You can hear the planes take off and land during the day but there's a curfew restriction in the evening.
Most everyone is out and away from the campground enjoying activities in and around the lake during the day anyway.
We've camped here before... the airport's not a problem but this place does get occasional visits from bears. - see video
Bear Rambles Through Tahoe Valley Campground: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpsK4bfrxbc
The aireal photo with the yellow highway and big green arrows makes the airport and campground appear
closer to one another than they really are,
For a better bird's-eye-view, here's a video of a small plane landing at the airport - the large area of forest to the right of the runway is the campground acerage and directly beyond that is the Desolation Wilderness.

Les Grossman: Speedman is a dying star. A white dwarf headed for a black hole. That's physics. It's inevitable.
Studio Executive Rob Slolom: We've been handed an incredible opportunity here, Peck.
Les Grossman: The universe... is talking to us right now. You just gotta listen.
[turns on Flo Rider's "Low" and begins to dance to the beat]
Les Grossman: See, this is the good part, Pecker. This is when the job gets fun! Ask... and you shall receive!
Studio Executive Rob Slolom: [dancing along] Right...
Les Grossman: You play ball... we play ball. I knoowwww... you want the goodies!
Studio Executive Rob Slolom: Welcome to the goodie room!
Les Grossman: You paying attention? I'm talking... G5, Pecker! That's how you can roll. No more frequent flyer bitch miles for my boy! Oh yeah! Playa... playa! Big dick playa!
Studio Executive Rob Slolom: Swinging past ya knees!
Les Grossman: Big dick, baby!
Studio Executive Rob Slolom: Yep.
Les Grossman: [turns off the music] Or... you can grow a conscience in the next five minutes and see where that takes you.
Rick Peck: Now let me get this straight. You want me to let my client of 15 years, one of my best friends, die in the jungle alone, for some money and a G5?
Les Grossman: Yes.
Rick Peck: [pause] A G5 airplane?
Les Grossman: Yes... and lots of money... playaaaa!
[turns on the music and dances again]
(man, I've watched this thing about 4 times since last night and I keep laughing my ass off, it's both wrong and right on so many levels). The background guy really hit it, and the expressions on Matthew McConaughey's face are priceless. The whole scene is just hilarious.)

Miss Ellie said it best...the airport and highway are both non-issue when camping here. Thinking back on the previous trip, I can honestly only remember 1 plane taking off and that's mostly because it had a unique sound and turned out to be a twin engine Beechcraft. You actually get more noise from the giant RV's rubbing against the trees as they exit the campground. Not only have we camped at Tahoe Valley Campground, we were also the traffic attendants!

Does no one get any entertainment from my post #175? I went into chat at 8:25, nothing but echoes!
Yes I found it amusing. It was on my fourth or fifth veiwing before I realized it was Tom Cruise as the Studio Executive Rob Slolom and then it became a little more disturbing.
Miss Ellie & Co. 06-16-2009, 04:53 PM It took me awhile too - but once I realized that I saw Tropic Thunder (hysterical!) it all fell into place.
Yes you can land your GS at the South Lake Tahoe Airstrip -
Once we told them that you are the other Most Interesting Man in World ("stay stoked my friends") they decided to issue you a special landing permit. (with or without your plane)
Note: Upon approach, be sure not to disturb the trout in the Upper Truckee River which flows left of the runway.
You'll see the river while watching the King Air C90-B Landing at South Lake Tahoe Video - post# 174
Miss Ellie & Co. 06-16-2009, 06:26 PM Just a few miles northwest of our South Lake Tahoe campground is a 100 square mile federal wilderness area called the Desolation Wilderness.
Although not large, averaging 12.5 miles long and 8 miles wide, it contains 100 plus small glacial lakes. (most filled with trout)
Far from being desolate, it's covered with lakes, wildlife, marvelous vistas and contains all major species of trout.
There are no roads here - not even fire roads, just pristine wilderness.
Currently there's still a ton of snow there but come late summer things should be very nice indeed.
So.. if you're a hiking fool you should most definately check it out.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3613/3452155318_0a874ec1e4.jpg
Desolation Wilderness uses a strict permit quota system.
It is one of the most heavily used protected areas in the United States.
The quota is 700 overnight users and wilderness permits are required for both overnight and day users - every day of the year.
Quotas restrict how many people can enter the Wilderness on any given day.
Desolation Wilderness Web Page: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/ltbmu/recreation/wilderness/desowild/
Day use permits can be completed at the trailhead but overnight permits must be picked up in person or via snail-mail.
You can reserve an overnight permit in writing:
3070 Camino Heights Drive
Camino, California 95709
Phone: 530-644-6048
Fax: 530-644-3034
Or at Eldorado National Forest Center off Highway 50, 5 miles east of Placerville.

bikerjosh 06-28-2009, 10:05 AM Howdy fellow camping fools. Been off the boards for a little while.
Kristen and I are still planning on coming, although it will probably be a Friday night through Sunday afternoon kind of trip.
Starting a new job in a couple weeks and getting time off at least for the first six months will be tight. Lot's of projects.
Life is good!:D
Miss Ellie & Co. 06-28-2009, 11:19 AM Yeah Josh!
Short time or long time - it's always a good time when you're around. :)
Congrats on the new job - we're happy for you!!:D
Glad that you and Kristen will be in da house - it's looking like most all of the Camping Fools will be there.
Along with all the makings for another classic EOC camping trip.
Can't hardly wait! :D
motelE 06-28-2009, 09:31 PM Hi "E-ples" Just got back from a weekend in Kennedy Meadows (west off 395 just before Little Lake). It was beautiful, got to fish, hike, wade, eat & sit around the campfire at night.
I'm still planning on the Tahoe trip. But last week me & everyone else at work got a 20% cut or just plain laid off. I work for a trucking company & between the economy & diesel exhaust restrictions we're getting kicked in both ends. So I've still got my calendar marked & hope work picks up.
Happy trails toooo you, until we meet again.......:D

Hey Carol - nice Kennedy Meadows pics.
Been there more than a couple of times myself and always enjoyed it.
We usually camped at the Troy Meadows campground - which campground at Kennedy did you stay at?
Sure hope you'll be able to make it to Tahoe.
I'll make a request to the Camping Gods on your behalf - "Send motelE to the Tahoe trip!"
hogdrafter 06-29-2009, 07:58 PM so do we just show up since you have paid the deposit?
motelE 06-30-2009, 08:28 AM We stayed at Kennedy Meadows campground. The Kern river runs right by it. The river flow is very slow there, several beaver dams make some nice swimming holes. A good place to cool off for man & beast. And the campground was 95% empty, but I suppose the 4th it will be busy. It's quite a climb once you turn off 395, I wouldn't want to be driving/pulling anything big up there. The scenery is beautiful. We're talking about making another trip this summer.
Miss Ellie & Co. 06-30-2009, 11:11 AM so do we just show up since you have paid the deposit?
Hi Hogdrafter - yup that's pretty much all there is to it.
Just show up at the campground.
Upon arrival just pay for how many days you'll want to be camping.
Most who are going are staying for 7 days - but there's a few with job commitments that can only make it for the week-end.
Hope you decide to go - it's going to be one extrodinary good time! :D
Everyone's required to bring signed permission slips from thier parents (forgeries are OK) to attend this gig.
Management cannot be held responsible for people having too much fun.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
spdrcr5 06-30-2009, 11:46 AM I WANT TO GO CAMPING AT LAKE TAHOE!!!! :-(
I just read through the entire thread and already miss the place, I was there 3 weeks riding around the lake and would LOVE to do it again... We just can't make this trip. :-(
Have fun everyone. I can tell you the bike path to Truckee is a nice path, the path itself does NOT go all the way to Truckee, you would need to ride the bike shoulder to complete the ride. The path itself though is very nice, easy path. 2 way with several small bridges to cross. it runs right along a small river/stream. In years past we have seen a few animals, but they always ran away with all of the bikers riding through.
for those that ride, I highly recommend riding west along the highway and head up the switchbacks. It's about a 1,100-1,500 foot climb in maybe 2 miles. It is a beautiful fun ride and takes you up to Emerald Bay, another beautiful site to see. For a nice challenge if you don't want to ride around the entire lake (it is approx 70 miles around the lake) is to ride up the 8 mile climb at an 8% grade on the Eastern side of the lake. this is called the Spooner climb... lots of fun! :D
Man, I so want to go... even checked flights and for both of us it would be $1,000 rt, then we'd need a rental from Reno... can't justify the expense and getting the time off just won't work... damn! :(

That climb that you're referring to is 9 Mile Canyon Road - pretty impressive huh?
It's extremely narrow with few guard rails and very steep drop offs.
If you're into cheap thrills try driving up it at night - yikes!

motelE 06-30-2009, 07:32 PM A few years ago my sis & I camped in the mobile home park directly behind Schatt's. It was Mule Days so the town & campgrounds were crowded and we got to pitch our tents on someones back yard right next to a stream. So every morning we'd go to Schatts for breakfast, maybe go by at lunch, oh you just can't not go there for a little dessert after dinner. It was a darn good thing we walked everywhere we needed to go or we would not have fit into our clothes at the end of the weekend, literally.
Hope to see you all in Tahoe.:smile:

Heck - I'll even bake you a cake!
All of your friends will be there and you'll meet some new, kewl camping fools that we've assimilated since your last EOC camping adventure.
It would be so great to see you, Lynn and Madison again (we miss you!)
Madison would be in good company. There's already 8 dogs on board for this trip and Maddie would make it 9!
This is going to be huge fun!

Not sure if we'd bring the girls though, they can get a bit territorial when they're together. Sophie is fine (though she plays a bit rough), but yeah they're trouble when they've got "sister power".
I'm checking funds and potential time off but I'd say there's a better than even chance you'll see me and my pretty little wife there. ESPECIALLY if there's a cake!

Just be careful Andy... you know how you get on that stuff.

Miss Ellie & Co. 07-11-2009, 02:44 PM Back in 2006 when we did our first Lake Tahoe EOC camping gig many who attended it had never been there before.
The sheer size and beauty of the lake and the surrounding area was and still remains astonishing!
Beyond that there was such an endless amount of amazing things to do that it blew some minds.
Peeps were frantic trying to figure out and choose what recreational activities they most wanted to pursue - realizing of course that there wasn’t enough time to do everything they desired.
This year we’ve got a better handle on what’s happening in and around Lake Tahoe and we’re working on coming up with a list of activities to accentuate the experience.
The next post will be a sample of one of the proposed Group Activities that people might be interested in doing.
There are many more group activities coming.
Some are confined to the campground and others out in the Hinterlands or on the lake – all of them are sure to be wicked fun.
We’ll be posting them up between now and the actual trip date in September to ponder and gauge interest.
Got an idea for a group activity you'de like to see happen? Post it up!
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-11-2009, 04:10 PM Far East Exotic International Omelet Bar II
Sadly our official omelet making king SPDRC5 (Larry) won’t be with us at Tahoe this year.
During the first EOC Tahoe trip in 2006, Larry acquainted us with his exemplary omelet making skills.
We will most certainly miss him this year.
Also on hand back in 2006 was X-EOCer “Melissa” who introduced us to the exotic world of Asian Omelets.
Melissa (who is scientist in real life) hails from Malaysia – which is the source of these mysteriously delightful egg concoctions.
She served omelets up for us that were made with smoked oysters, clams, scallions, secret spices and deadly “Thai Bird Peppers”.
These were delicate omelets that were tasty wonderful and dangerous all at once.
Containing an exciting spicy-hot, back bite that could raise the dead.
But these killer omelets were very delicious leaving some of us so impressed that we dubbed Melissa the “Malaysian Black Widow”
(these omelets are actually an Asian supper dish but we had them for breakfast and if they don’t get you going in the morning nothing will)
But Melissa is gone now – and no one knows where.
Some think she was exclusively on the prowl for a man to marry and may have found one on the Tahoe trip. ( Wham, Bam Thank You Man )
Others think she’s in jail for smuggling Bird Peppers or gone back to Malaysia to help lead a political revolution.
But what ever may have happened to Melissa - those of us who knew her still miss her to this day.
She was quiet a gal!
So in honor of Melissa (a Far East Coaster) and Larry (a Long Island -East Coaster) along with the learned tutelage we’ve received from both them -
another Far East Exotic International Omelet Bar is being proposed.
Of course people would need to get involved to make it happen.
The theme is “International” and would include omelet recipes from all around the world.
Think you’de be up for such a challenge? We hope so.
There’s no end to world of omelets and given the caliber of EOC cooks and chefs attending the Tahoe Trip the possibilities are endless.
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-12-2009, 07:31 PM It's baaaaack...
MONDAY NIGHT CAMP CHAT

Miss Ellie & Co. 07-13-2009, 01:28 PM THE FLUME MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL
OK – so who’s bringing Mountain Bikes?
Ya’ll realize of course that Tahoe is famous for some of the most spectacular Mountain Bike Trails in the world - don’t cha?
That being said, it would be foolish not to take advantage of this oportunity during our camp out.
Most notable of Lake Tahoe’s many MB trails is “The Flume” which at one time or another has been featured in just about every MB magazine in the world.
The Flume is not a difficult trail – just spectacular.
A single-track design that carves away along side a mountain slope with utterly jaw dropping views of Lake Tahoe below.
You can drive your Element up to Spooner Lake Reservoirs where a shuttle service will take you and your bike to the trailhead and return you back to Spooner Lake.
The shuttle service is $12 per person with a minimum of 6 riders and bikes.
Don’t have a Mountain Bike? - Borrow a friend’s.
Failing that you can rent one from the same company that runs the Shuttle Service.
The Flume - general info: http://www.theflumetrail.com/

Biking makes my butt hurt :D
What can you tell us about Kayaking and or Canoeing. I've heard it's the best.
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-13-2009, 01:59 PM :D
What can you tell us about Kayaking and or Canoeing. I've heard it's the best.
So glad that you asked!
That will be Proposed Group Activity #3 and it's awesome.
It will be up shortly. :D
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-13-2009, 02:21 PM Sand Harbor is located on the northeast (Nevada) side of Lake Tahoe.
It's not only a great place to paddle a kayak but a great place to spend the day.
The EOC Navy can launch kayaks directly from the beach here.
Sand Harbor recently opened a beautiful new visitor center with beach, picnic and group facilities.
The clarity of the water is amazingly clear with gianormus granite rocks jutting up from the water.
Very nice for kayaking and swimming.

"Come on - admit it! Don't you want to jump in that water?"
Sand Harbor General Info: http://parks.nv.gov/lt.htm#GROUP
Sand Harbor Kayaking Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=849iLF-PZzA
Note: The Flume Mountain Bike Trail is high above Sand Harbor and partially visable from the trail. (see Flume video)
Peeps who want to can bike the Flume and hang out at Sand Harbor too.
That's two awesome activities in one day both within an easy distance of one another.
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-13-2009, 03:40 PM Ru - oh!
I just found out that Sand Harbor is great for kayaking and hanging at the beach but no dogs are allowed.:-(
Seeing that there's going to be a lot of dogs with us at Tahoe (8 at last count) perhaps doing a kayak - beach day thing at Sand Harbor won't work for us as a group.
In fact due to water quality issues dogs are not allowed on any of the beaches at Lake Tahoe with one exception.
"North Beach at Zephyr Cove"
http://www.nemda.org/Portals/0/zephyr%20cove.jpg
There's good kayaking at Zephyr Cove but there's no jutting rocks to navigate through.
But this is a dog friendly beach.
Back in 2006 we kayaked and had a picnic here - it was superfine.
I ended up going swimming and playing in the water with two huge Black Newfoundlands - (sweet dogs - and boy did they ever dig the water!)
There's a lot really good stuff happening at Zephyr Cove.
It's closer to our camp campground than Sand Harbor is and you can rent anything you want as far as water sports go -
from wave runners to kayaks or just bring your own gear - it's all good.
A $5.00 parking fee and that's about it.
Zephyr Cove is where the M.S. Dixie (one of Tahoe's two huge paddle boats) launches for daily and evening dinner cruises around the lake.
There's also a nice restaruant, an excellent concession stand, beach volley ball courts and tons of other cool stuff - inculding horse stables for anyone interested in doing some riding.
The picnic area is quiet nice too. It's nestled under Ponderosa Pines with ample shade - right on the shoreline of the lake!
This would be our best bet for a group kayaking day at the beach - and the dogs will love it!
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-13-2009, 05:34 PM Like tossing shoes?
http://www.kennywolf.com/daysharp.jpg
Well I do and I know there's a few others in our crew who do too.
I propose a 2 day EOC Horseshoe Pitching Championship.
This activity would take place in the late afternoon at the campground under the shade next to the pool area where the pits are.
Tossin shoes is great fun, low impact and a somewhat relaxing thing to do.
Best of all anyone can do it.
You might not win the contest but it's a guaranteed good time. :D
Note: Rumor has it that "Jet" has some formidable shoe tossing skills.
To even out the field and make it fair for everyone else... perhaps we should duct tape his elbows to his waist.
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-13-2009, 06:03 PM I'll be posting more activities up soon (I've got a million of them)
Since most of us will be here for 7 days and nights we've got some time to spend.
The Group Activities that are being proposed are optional and voluntary.
If they ain't your thing - that's cool - no harm no foul.
You can watch or participate or go do whatever else might suit your fancies.
We will adhere to our original EOC camping fool motto -
"OK to do your own thing - we won't cramp your style"
(just make sure to have yourself a good time)
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-13-2009, 06:12 PM Picking up where we left off at Death Valley another Chili Cook Off is up for consideration.
We had seven amazing Chili enteries at Death Valley all were so good that we didn't pick a winner.
But this year at Tahoe all bets are off and we will be crowning a champion.
So if your into chili and like to cook here's your chance for glory.
There's no limits to what you can do or put in your Chili either.
You can make it as spicy, hot or mild as you like!
(and for added relief we'll be passing out snow cones to anyone seen duck walking thier way to the restrooms)
slosport 07-14-2009, 02:37 PM Gene!
Can you bring me some raisin bread? My brother and now wife changed their wedding plans and it looks like I may be able to make it afterall! Can't wait to jump off some big rocks with you guys!
Yahoo!!!!
So glad we will be seeing you again at Tahoe.
XO Marilyn and Ted
Elemen-O-P 07-14-2009, 05:16 PM I wouldn't put this up as a group activity, only because past outings have had small numbers. But for those interested, its a sure thing I'll be heading off-road and anybody is welcome.
AWD is preferred, but its possible to make do with 2wd on some of the trails. AWD always leads and if its tough for them, its a no go for the 2wd crowd.
The last time, a group of us powered up and over Genoa Peak. The trip took a couple hours and afforded us a great view of Lake Tahoe from the eastern mountain range. Here's a shot of that view
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j242/Demonsport/EOC%20Campout/IMG_1238.jpg
and here's the brave group!

Miss Ellie & Co. 07-14-2009, 05:28 PM If it includes more than one Element it's a Group Activity.
This sounds great Paul. I'm game!
Now that I know where there's a DIY car wash not too far from the campground I'm up for getting Miss Ellie all dirt and dusty.
Did you find any small alpine lakes up there? I think there's a few in that area. (they're great for Trout fishing)
Any other off roading possiblities? I'm sure there's a lot of them around Tahoe - want me to look for some?
(but you'll still have to be the Trail Boss no matter what I find)
I am so looking forward to this! :)

NV_05_AWD 07-14-2009, 10:28 PM Hi all, been away and just catching up on this thread.... I see there is a lot of talk about kayaking so I just wanted you all to be aware of our efforts to stop the invasion of LT by the Quaga and Zebra mussels. I could go on but here is all the info (http://www.trpa.org/default.aspx?tabid=351), although it does not mention kayaks specifically, it is my understanding that you do need an inspection. :-(
The good news unless your kayak is 16 foot or longer it should be free.:D
We have had the Mussel scare in Ventura County and they have closed a few local lakes to outside boats. Lately the only place I can Kayak is the Pacific Ocean via Ventura Harbor or Channel Islands Harbor. I sure hope they don't close that.
It is my intention to bring 2 or 3 Kayaks and spend time in Tahoe, Donner and maybe Serene Lakes up on Donner Summit.
....

I'm game as long as the trail isn't as brutal as the Echo Canyon road in Death Vally.:twisted::shock:
I have a new set of Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S's to break in.:)
Elemen-O-P 07-15-2009, 03:03 PM Did you find any small alpine lakes up there? I think there's a few in that area. (they're great for Trout fishing)
Nope..no lakes up there..just a lot of trees and dirt. I've scoured the area for any "unknown" trails that lead to lakes, all are pretty much inaccessible unless you've got a trail rig.....'scept for one. Its the Angora Lakes road and is just a graded country road, that leads up to the Angora Lakes Resort. Not exactly unknown and in no way challenging, but pretty nonetheless.
It seems there are fewer trails than I remember from the last trip. Therefore, I'd like to say that the Genoa Peak trail will be the sure thing for those who wanna play in the dirt. We've already conquered it, so we know what to expect. About midway through the trail, you can even hike up to the Genoa Peak radio tower for views that are extra awesome.

The trail to the gold mine wasn't difficult, just had a high center that scraped the fuel tank bar and made it sound worse than it was. For the most part this trail isn't all that difficult. There really isn't a high center and its mostly just dusty, but there is one rocky, woop-de-doo section that'll make you pucker...just ask jdiane. I helped her through it with ample use of the right go peddle. Here's a shot of that section looking up the hill from midpoint...

and then from midpoint looking down..

and jdiane spinning all 4 in the loose mountain soil..

so, if it looks like fun! then you're gonna love it! :D
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-15-2009, 03:37 PM We'll be going up to Angora Lakes to jump off the rocks and try not to kill ourselves.
A group of us went up there in 2006. (nobody jumped off the rocks though)
This year will be different... geronimo !!!!
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-15-2009, 03:49 PM Watched "1000 Ways to Die" last night on Spike TV.
An idiot, somewhat inhebriated, college kid jumped off some rocks into a reservior somewhere in Arizona at 60 feet.
Unfortunately and quiet remarkably he hit the water at just the precise angle and upon impact the force of the water shot up into his rectal cavity and burst his large intestine - he bled to death in the water.
Jumping from rocks into water can be dangerous!
I won't be jumping anything higher that 15 feet.
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-15-2009, 04:01 PM http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/box4rox/Club%20Meets/TahoeValleyMap1.jpg

Miss Ellie & Co. 07-15-2009, 07:57 PM What!? There's gonna be some Texans in the house?
Yes it's true.
I was harrassed, abused and accused so unmercifully that I had to relent to Bummer's demands. ;-)
LOL!
I think it's great that these two newly weds will be hooking up with the rest of the EOC riff raff at Lake Tahoe.
Bummer's got Tahoe wired and might have a really cool, fun surprise to share with us if all goes according to plans -
and I shant be telling anyone what it is either.
So if you want to find out what it could be - I guess you'll just have to come to Tahoe.
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-15-2009, 08:44 PM BTW - you don't need an invitation to attend this camping gig.
Note: This is a 21 and over crowd that likes to kick off it's shoes and get down.
( permission slips from your parents should suffice )
It's open to anyone who wants to go.
chefjames 07-17-2009, 03:00 AM alright...kind of bad news here...don't think I can attend this years Lake Tahoe campathon....I was looking forward to it after the DV trip....transitioning into a new job, this time a French restaurant :lol: can't really take a time off after less then 2 month of working.
Have fun, and I want to see a lot of pictures.

Sorry to hear you won't be among the throng of happy people cavorting about Lake Tahoe - you will be missed.
But on the upside - congradulations on the new job!
I love French Food - next time I'm down in San Diego I'll be dinning at your restaurant.
chefjames 07-17-2009, 11:57 AM for sure stop by....its my second job actually....learning something different from a French chef....yes, they do have a bad temper....
not trying to get off topic here, but Tue - Thurs night between 5 and 6, we have 3 course meal for $30, and the portion is not small.
check it out if any of you are in SD for a visit.

Yo! Count me in for the off road(fire road) excursion, if it's on Sat or Sun. Kristen and I will be coming up after I get off work on Friday (new job, so can't take extra time off).
"Bummer" is coming? Right on he made the bash plate on the front of my E.
Josh
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-17-2009, 02:38 PM Yo Josh - how's the new job? Are you still in the Java Biz or on to something else?
Yes - Bummer's gonna be there with his new bride. :)
But he won't have is E with him at Tahoe - instead he'll be cruzin around in his mom's Mustang GT.
Looking forward to seeing you and Kristen again. (we missed her at DV last February)
wgwood 07-17-2009, 05:23 PM I might be able to make it to this shindig. I am leaving on a short camping trip this Sunday.
I will be going to the Sawtooth National Forest in Idaho and then continuing on up to Glacier National Park in Montana. Then I will be heading to Mount Rainier and Mount Hood. Then it is just a quick hop to Crater Lake, followed by a run to the Redwoods in NoCal. I will then swing through the Lake Shasta area and end up in Lassen National Park.
I have alloted 8 weeks for this trip, so I should be finished in Lassen around September 9th. So I figure a stop in Tahoe on the way home would not be out of my way. :)
The best part of this trip is that it will not cost me a penny. Yep, I am getting paid to go camping! If you read my earlier thread about this, I am going to be taking pics of the campgrounds that I am visiting. I negotiated a deal with the website owner and got paid up front for all my expenses. Someone has to do it. :D

Miss Ellie & Co. 07-17-2009, 08:32 PM Jolly good Greg!
You missed last summer's Yellowstone campout. :-(
Don't miss Tahoe!
You could risk loosing some of your Merit Badges if you do. ;-)
Can't wait to hear all about your summer camping adventures and we could use a pro-photographer at this event too.
U DA MAN !
imperience 07-18-2009, 02:41 AM I would love to be a part of the rock jumping party. I may love water just as much as Merilynnnn!!!!
There is another dog friendly beach just south of Zephyr Cove called Kahle Beach. We were there on 4th of July - big sandy beach with crystal clear cool water.

I think she may have webbed toes too.
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-18-2009, 04:36 AM Imperience - I'm nominating you as the EOC swim team's rock jumping coach.
Good news on finding another DF beach!
Zephyr Cove is gonna be fun.
8 silly dogs, a big sandy beach, cool clear water =
Miss Ellie & Co. 07-20-2009, 02:35 PM I know there's a few of us that are having birthdays during the campout...
Mark, Richelle, Djembe and I think a few others too.
Who else is having birthdays during this event?
Do we want to have a Group Birthday Party?
Elemen-O-P 07-20-2009, 05:11 PM Do we want to have a Group Birthday Party?
I say we pile all the presents and birthday cake around the firepit and have everyone blow out the campfire..:D
Perro_Loco 07-21-2009, 12:28 AM Finally a meet I think I can make it to :D I won't be able to make the weekend but I should be there during the week with my mtb. Hope you guys have some room for some Colorado folk lol and I might need a tour guide. CO is the farthest west I've driven so this will be a mini adventure for me.

WTG Perro_Loco - that's wonderful news!
Welcome aboard! :D
Now we can add a Coloradan to our outstanding list of distinguished attendees.
Not to worry - we've got tour guides galore - everything's wired.
No matter what you're into someone in this camping crew is into it too.
You're gonna love Lake Tahoe!
PS: the trip west from Colorado to Tahoe is a humdinger - ain't nothing like it nowhere.
Ft Collins = Colorado State, Ms JET graduated from Colorado State.
And she and I met in Tahoe 35 years ago.
What a coincidence
....
Perro_Loco 07-22-2009, 12:24 AM Hehe just so happens I'm in CSU  Just to warn you guys I'm a total newb to camping. If I'm lucky that will be my second time, so I might need some help LOL. I'm already eyeing the camping stickie :D

The most important question is....
What will you be sleeping in?
A few of us sleep in our Elements which are all decked out like Imperial Bedroom suites. ;-)
Others have tents of all shapes and sizes. :D
At least one in our party will be using a Tear Drop Trailer.
Beyond your sleeping arrangement - not much else is required for comfort.
A cooler, some basic kitchen utensils, a lantern and coleman stove is about it.
A few of us pack light, but most of us bring enough camping gear and gizmos to equip the Foregin Legion.
Whatever you don't have can be borrowed or shared - I'll be happy to oblige.
You really don't need much.
