: gy tires lasted on 17k

hey all I went to the dealership to get an oil change and my advisor told me that my tires were at its limits. The front 2 were hitting the wear bar and the rears were very close. I always rotate my tires when I do an oil change and I am pissed off that these stock tires only lasted 17k miles. Does anyone know if Good year will honor there "Limited Warranty"?
Or do I have no choice but to get a new set. I was thinking of getting a set of Michelin ltx m/s. what do you'll think?

Looks like you were lucky they lasted that long . . . many GY's never made it past the 10k mark. And we are all still trying to figure out why Honda continues to use this crap!?!

I think some people got them replaced by the dealer; do a search in the threads and you may find some useful info.

And welcome ;0)

No idea about the warranty, but trust us when we say you want to get something else. The general consensus around here is that they're REALLY awful. Check out the threads in the rest of the Tires & Wheels section for detailed info. Also fill out your profile so we can see where you live - it makes a HUGE difference on what tires you need!

Just finished reading your first post all the way through (DUH) and the Michelin LTX M/S are one of the most popular tires around. Definitely great ones, especially if you drive in a lot of different conditions.

The GY's on my brother's 2005 Cargo Khaki are just approaching the wear bars at 43K miles.

I've just got 9,000 on mine so I can't judge.

The originals on my 03 lasted 12,000 miles, then they were bald as a baby's junky trunk

I have 30,000 on my GYs so far and there's about 50% tread left. I rotate every oil change, keep pressures right, don't corner too hard, etc.

They are indeed garbage and scare the sh** outta me in bad weather. I'm just milkin' em' because I'm cheap and good tires are expensive.

Don't forget also, that dealers are not doing well and they'll tell you anything in order to sell you anything.

The Goodyears on my '08 were gone at 12k. Fastest I've ever worn out tires. If I recall correctly, the tires on my '03 E lasted well into the 30K range (I don't remember if they were Goodyears). I bought a set of Nokians last Saturday. The vehicle seems to hold the road better, we'll see about wear. Maybe its just my style of driving.

I'll be first to admit I drive like Mario Andretti driving in a world rally

My stock Goodyears are now at 44,000 miles, and they're just now getting to the wear bars. I do a lot of stop-and-go driving, but I don't corner too hard or anything like that. And, that 44,000 accounts for the fact that I've rotated the tires exactly ONCE since I bought the E.

14k on mine and about to rotate for the 1st time (I rotate every other oil change usually...although I didn't think I would be this far along for a 2nd oil swap.) Anyway, slight wear showing on the corners of the front but nothing out of the ordinary for a daily highway commute.

Maybe we're talking about some semi-soft rubber here that is particularly sensitive to aggressive driving.

my goodyears lasted a whole 11k before they hydroplaned in a small amount of rain and almost sent me right into oncoming traffic. i was hesitant to trust anything else made by goodyear after that experiance so i got a set of yokohamas and they have been great.

Same exact experience here which is what prompted me to change them and FAST.

hey all I called GY this morning to complain about the tires. They told me to take it to a gy authorized dealer to do an inspection.
I thought since i bought the car less then a year ago they were going to do "something". Well they told me that there was no tread warranty on the original tires. Since I only got 17k they said they would call GY HQ to see if they would do anything. Well they came back about 20 mins later and said they would credit me 60% of tire = to $75 on each tire. I wanted to take the money and run, but they said the offer was only good long as I replace the tire with another GY set. So I bought a set of GY Integrity p225/70R16 for $43 each and $15 for road hazard and life time balancing and rotation. This set has 50k tread warranty with it Total $250 including sales tax.

At least they gave me something.
I guess I got a good deal. What to you all think?

IMHO, other than the price is pretty good, what they GOT was they got you to buy another set of GY's. Though if you're happy with them that's what counts most in the end.

Mileage on auto tires also depends an awful lot on the composition of the asphalt. Different regions of the country have 'low abrasion' and others have 'high abrasion' characteristics. Gonna have to Google this to find those places. This makes a big contribution to short tire life.

I have a set of new "take off" Badyear Wrangler SP tires on my Silverado and if they last 15,000 miles it will be a miracle. ( Four new tires and new steel wheels with center caps for $385- worth it even if they are Badyears)

Western PA roads are part of the problem. Much new concrete around here which is finished in a "corduroy" grooved surface that just eats tires. They tar and chip a lot of roads too. Talk about abrasive!

I'm 30k strong on the stock SC tires and still have 5-10k to go.

by rotating, do you guys mean swaping them in an "X" formation from end to end? Or flipping them on the rim itself.

by rotating, do you guys mean swaping them in an "X" formation from end to end? Or flipping them on the rim itself.

On non-directional tires, the fronts go straight back (R front to R back) and the rears cross sides to the front (R back to L front). On directional tires, you can only swap straight front to back (R front to R back/R back to R front) because of the directionality of the tread.

See this diagram, the Element falls under front wheel drive unless using directional tires:

I'm over 35k miles on my original tires, and still have plenty of tread left.

31k here and in the same status. SC 18s no less. :)

i have 7k on mine... i've never had tires feel so horrible. in the rain, they spin out... if i'm on a hill and roll backwards a bit, the tires spin even with a light pressing of the accelerator.

i'm in arkansas... it's hot most of the year, rainy in the spring and fall with gullywasher storms in the summer. any ideas for replacements?

There's a whole bunch of popular replacements on here. Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S G051, Pirelli Scorpion, Nokian WR-SUV, and Michelin LTX M/S are some of the front runners. It REALLY depends on your climate, driving style, and common driving environment.

Ive got almost 15k on my goodyears. The corners are starting to wear, mostly due to my driving style. I will probably replace them soon. Has anyone put all-terrain tires on their non AWDs before, i want more of an agressive look, even if i cant off road that much.
