I was wondering what numbers on you keyless remote have to match to use the remote for the 2003 Element (FCC, CANADA, P/N). Anyone Know?

I have read that the FCC number must match but cannot confirm or deny by my own experience. I did some research to see if I could program my E and my Odyssey to work on the same remote, and decided not to try since the FCC numbers didn't match.

Keyless remotes have to be the accessory versions for civic/element/accord Any of the newer cars that have "accessory" keyless entry ie. 01-04 civic LX, 98-02 accord LX, CRX LX, or E

Not sure what you mean by "accessory" here. Will my 2000 Ody remotes work on the 2004 Element? Thanks!!

no. unfortunately, odyssey keyless remotes only work for odyssey. If you have a civic LX with keyless option, etc. But as soon as you program the remote to one vehicle, it will erase the codes for the other car so operating two cars with one remote is not possible

I was under the impression that you programmed the car to recognize the individual remote you're using. You use 1 remote to get the car into programming mode, then press lock for each of up to 3 remotes you want the car to recognize. I added keyless to both my E and my wife's CR-V and had thought of trying to get both cars to recognize the same remotes, although it might not be such a good idea if I'm unlocking her car everytime I leave for work. Might try it anyway just to see.

Now are you sure? The remotes have no way of knowing which vehicle they're programmed for - they are transmit-only devices, each with a unique code.

The intelligence is in the car. The programming procedure by which you add remotes for a vehicle is a process which clears the vehicle's memory of which remotes are in its "accepted list", and then you add your remotes to the "list" when prompted for each one.

One car has no idea that it's sharing a same (or a similar) list with another.

Now all that hasn't said that it's a bad idea, which it is. You go out to your driveway, press "unlock", and then have all your cars unlock. You press "lock", and then all your cars lock, including the one you intended to use. And what happens if your spouse happens to be in the same parking lot as you with the car having the same codes? You drive away and leave his/her car unlocked without knowing it.

Okay, okay. after reviewing the info I have at my disposal, referring to Service news bullitin #98-011 The following cars use the same remote.

2001-2004 Civic with dealer installed keyless system (Except EX, VP comes standrd), or optional security system
2003-2004 Pilot
2003-2004 Element
Part Number 72147-S5A-A01 (single)
Part Number 08E61-S5D-1M001 (pair)

I stand corrected. A single car can have 3 remotes programmed at a time. But you have to program all of the remotes at one time. I've tried to program my remotes to another Pilot and Element with Keyless. All three cars operate at one time. Sorry about my mistake and any confusion I might have caused. Thanks for the correction too! :D

BUT, the other car will re-lock itself within either 1 minute or 20 seconds (can't remember) if a door is not opened, right? If I could make the E and the Ody share, I would. The Ody would be re-locked by the time I got out of the driveway.

[chuckle!]

For as much as I hate that feature, you have found a reason to have it.

I tried with with my wife's 2000 CR-V, and it doesn't work of course. Her's is the remote with a separate button for the hatch, so I didn't expect it to work, but had to try. Neither car recognized the other remote.
