: Computer with touch screen

I am specing out installation of a computer (laptop) and touchscreen for my element. I have figured out most of the parts I will need. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this yet?
I will be connecting the computer to the sound system so that I can play MP3s and dvds over the touchscreen. Also will be installing a GPS that interfaces with the laptop and displays on the touchscreen.
I was planning to install the touchscreen just above the sub and below the dash (so its reachable but out of the way).
I plan to mount the laptop on a bungee under the drivers seat.
If anyone has done this and can share their experience it would be great.
I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks,

_john

since money seems to be no object why don't you consider buying a Panasonic Toughbook. Their engineered for rough conditions and can be jarred around without breaking much more than a "regular" laptop. i've seen them at trade shows where the salesman throws it to the ground with not even a scratch.

Well I am looking at spending $400 or so for the screen and other parts (a bit more for the GPS, but that will come later). I already have an unused laptop sitting around so I was going to try that. If it can't handle it I will consider one of the more rugged laptops or one of the "mobile" computer cases.

Check out http://www.dashpc.com/

Other people have indicated that this display is a good compromise on size & price, but it's not as bright as some of the high end ones:

I just ordered that touch screen...but found the same company selling it for a few bucks cheaper:
