: Here's my trailer!
Just thought I would share what I camp in... A little boler, best trailer ever, fits my hubby, me and three dogs comfortably!!! It weighs 900lbs empty and I barely notice it's there!!! She's an oldie but a goody.

Thanks for posting the pics!
:)
RdE_Rnr 05-23-2009, 11:00 PM pretty looking trailer you got there...liking the curves of it, very Rare.
They aren't too hard to find really, I see them for sale here and there. They are fiberglass which is great as they don't rot and are easily repaired or modified. I was reading this section and was surprised to see that they weren't mentioned. They are perfect for cars that can't tow much over 1500lbs.
Here's a great site that has lots of information on light weight trailers:

Justinb845 05-24-2009, 08:37 AM nice look kool
sarahp 05-24-2009, 10:06 AM that's awesome!! do you happen to have any interior shots? i've never seen a trailer like yours... i like it a lot!
makes me want to go camping...
EL-MT 05-24-2009, 12:19 PM Stylin'! Do you know how they made it so light? Aluminum frame? Paper mache'? Anyway I feel a twinge of jealousy.
dog drool 05-24-2009, 12:25 PM Great tailer What year is it?
I Have a 1972 Burro It is a great little trailer Fits one person and 2 dogs kinda tight but then again my dog are on the large side.
I will post photos when i get them resized

Frame is normal metal but the only wood is in the floor the body is molded fiberglass made in 2 parts and glued together no wooden support pure fiberglass.
Scamp still makes them but the old ones are cuter ( and cheaper)
Hey did you rob a construction site for your wood pile:rolleyes:
Looks like 2x4's:D

Cool. My friend just got a Fleetwood Tacoma hardside popup, and it weighs a lot (3500lbs?) But it's at the max for his 08 Odyssey. I would love something light like you have for camping. Most of the things are too heavy.
AmusedMuse 05-24-2009, 11:34 PM I want one!!
stargazer 05-25-2009, 11:14 PM I always thought they called them eggs because of their shape... until I drilled a hole for a cable (for my satellite tv :) )... and realized the fiberglass doesn't seem much thicker than a 1/16 of an inch! This is why they are so lightweight.
I've 'showcased' my 1976 Scamp on here a few times... we love it! In little more than a couple of weeks I'll be pulling it all the way from my home in eastern Nebraska to the north rim of the Grand Canyon and a 1/2 dozen other national parks in between. I need to get one of those rv maps to highlight where we've been... starting to get around with this versatile camping combo.

I have the inside apart as I am redecorating but I will take some shortly. Mine is a 1972, love it.
MoonDrop 05-30-2009, 09:03 PM Hi there stargazer. If your heading to a lot National Parks I highly reccommend The national Park pass. Nice egg, I saw one goin thru N.J. Wednesday night and we all waved. (I was pullin my tear).
Great minds think alike..

Nice looking trailer but, its riding a bit low. Burros, Bolers, Cassitas, Clouds and Scamps are all pretty much the same and they have torsion suspension which will fatigue over the years if the trailer is not stored on jacks. We looked at over a dozen Scamps last year and most of them were stored on rubber and were saggy.
Here is a quote from Scamp's website.
"
Removing weight from axle
Jack up the axle and block it up to take the weight off the suspension. The tires don’t have to be off the ground. Just take the main weight off the axle. Leaving the weight of the trailer on the suspension for extended periods while stored is extremely hard on the torsion axle. The rubber will compress and not relax as fully as before. Relieve tire pressure to 10 or 15 pounds while stored. This will extend your tire life. "

We don't have much of a used market up here for sub 1500lb trailers, especially Scamps, so we ended up buying a new Sidekick 12' which is pretty close in size and features. I still want to restore a fiberglass egg and paint it GGM though.:)
Serj22 05-31-2009, 12:10 AM You should paint the bottom of the trailer grey, and paint the rest the same color as your car. That would be cool.

stargazer 06-04-2009, 02:34 PM There is always a feeding frenzy for these 13 foot fiberglass trailers on eBay... I'd suggest looking regularly on Craiglist.
I used to constantly google "+scamp +craigslist +trailer"
I finally found one which hadn't been bought at a reasonable price ($2000)... although had to travel 1400 miles round trip to get it.
dog drool 06-04-2009, 03:03 PM I was going to say that I thought the one on E-bay was pricey I paid under 2000 for mine.
Fiberglassrv.com has a for sale section but be fast I bought mine withing 15 min of posting.
Bowzer 06-04-2009, 03:11 PM Loving these...never have seen one before. Seem perfect companions to the E.

You're not kidding. I bid on a couple Scamps and got bid jacked in the last few seconds on both.
-todd- 06-05-2009, 07:00 AM That trailer is awesome!!!!! I love the look of the old school trailers..
insane_sc 06-05-2009, 11:02 AM That is the coolest little trailer, just paint it NBP to match the E, if mine was not a SC and I was not going to lower it, I would be all over that.

Did you see mine?
I'm lowered. I like it low and slow.:D
Cecil....
insane_sc 06-07-2009, 12:49 AM Cecil, the picture you sent me was great, your E is very well done, I dont know why you think it looks crappy, it is very worthy in my books, keep it up! It also shows me that being lowered should not stop me, thanks!

Say Steve,
I got your request, about the info you'd like to view. So soon and maybe by Sunday afternoon, I will have more for you til then. Mom is not well, (with her fight, struggle against cancer ), I'm just drained of strength lack of energy from everyday problems. I'm doing this for her, plus, driving 120 miles one way to work. I just need to continue my daily activitys, plus, I'm content that she is under good supervision.
Cecil...
insane_sc 06-10-2009, 12:15 AM I wish your mother well, it is hardto deal with, I have had 3 close friends all under the age of 25 that have died of cancer, non of them smoked or drank, its messed up. Good luck, and take your time on more pics, its not as important as anything else in your life.
Steve
prior8t2000 06-10-2009, 10:59 PM Thanks Steve,
I still continue my updates, I'll have more for you soon.
Plus, I posted here in the wrong thread (here my trailer). I clicked on PM with you, and I see it here instead. I was just pressed for sleep, and that's what I'll do now.
Cecil...

I agree about the color option - except for the black sucking up too much heat and cooking occupants of Scamp NBP. Fiberglass rules!
stargazer 06-23-2009, 10:11 PM Just logged about 2,600 miles with the Scamp... averaging a little more than 18mpg, typically at 60-65mph. The E and our trusty 33 year old mini travel trailer performed wonderfully. We camped at or visited Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Grand Canyon North Rim, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Arapaho National Forest (drove up to Mount Evans... w/o the Scamp mind you!) passing back through Colorado. I have to say... I-70 west of Denver, up to the Eisenhower Tunnel is a work out for the E pulling anything of consequence. I opted for the right lane with the snail pace 18 wheelers, flashers on.

stargazer 06-23-2009, 10:49 PM Thanks... I love your teardrop as well, which would satisfy all of my needs! (unfortunately, not my wife's... who wasn't even with us on this trip... just my two boys)
I'm still working on it but managed to snap a few pics of the inside for you all!

stargazer 07-01-2009, 09:46 PM I have the same layout (as do virtually all of these 13 foot 'glass trailers)... though not the overhead cabinet in the rear or the vent window... those are nice.
I tossed the closet door, which was kind of heavy and tended to come open when on the road... installed new shelving... a bracket for the LCD tv (have a folding/portable satellite dish and 'pay as you go' Dish Network) and shelf for microwave. The joint tape is kind of ugly... I've seen this with the 'elephant skin' interiors on other Scamps before... the previous owner of my unit did a really good job with a joint compound, rendering the tape unnecessary.
Some interior pics (try to look past the really dirty E following a 1,400 mile trip to pick the Scamp up)... http://www.hustonfamily.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=168665
I'm kind of proud of my 5,000BTU window AC install (being that I'm not a particularly proficient do it myselfer)... http://www.hustonfamily.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=168650 ... it's ice cold. I've seen some people attempt to put the window AC in the closet with a vent on the outside...from what I've seen they don't get enough ventilation to work well. Unless specifically built to accommodate one (in which case you probably already have one), the Scamp won't support the weight of a rooftop AC unit.
I also added this lightweight A&E Trimline bag awning... weighs less than 20 lbs...

Cool system (the AC).
I'd like to install a complete AC unite in mine.
Most of my camping is in Yuma,AZ. I need it their in the summer months.
It gets a little warm during the summer months.
If fact, a case of beer will only last one night.
I camp with several folks, when I meet them at the camp site.
I don't drink alone, anymore - now a days just with you guys.
wow the AC is cool (no pun intended) LOL I don't really need one where I go but nice job! I love the scamps which I could afford one. We have a company here making new similar ones up here as well but new I can't afford one yet...

Nice looking telescope. I stored a scope for one of my buddies in my garage once while he was moving. The thing had a 12" diameter and the tube was 14' long tube. Come to think of it, never have seen the thing put together.

Thank you for posting that link. I really like the whole Scamp concept and also liked the Escape trailer lines...gives me something to dream about. I have to admit I quickly moved up the size on the wish list from the 13' to larger and started imagining my wife's Pilot vs my E.
aleciah 07-06-2009, 08:02 PM super cute!! I imagine you get lots of attention at the campgrounds? People are always asking for 'tours' of my vintage scotty : )
