Hello all. I'm currently a Texan, but am applying up East to graduate school next fall. In talking with a friend of mine, he suggested that I check to find out how well the E fares in the mountains since I'm applying to VTech, Vermont, and Connecticut. So, that's precisely what I'm doing. Thanks for the input!

It works well in the mountains. I go up every weekend to vail or breckenridge to snowboard and it has plenty of power to go up a 9%grade at 75 to 80 mph. I have the ex 5pd. 4wd

Well, I feel qualified to answer this one, as I work at VT and live in the nearby mountains.

The E has performed like a champ in the mountains. I have plenty of power for climbing. It even did well fully (over)loaded on a summer jaunt to Cape Breton Island, and those were some steep roads!

It has also done just fine since the snow started. I feel very secure now driving in the snow. We had about 6" in the first storm and the rear wheels kicked in very smoothly when needed. I've even done okay on my steep icy driveway.

We drove up to VT (Okemo) for some boarding a few weekends ago and no problems it had plenty of power to handle the terrain

I drive on unpaved mountain roads in Oregon that are steep, twisty, slippery, rough, and sometimes very dangerous because of cliffs, etc. The E does great. And I don't even have the 4WD. Last week I drove up I-5 from California to Oregon through the Siskiyou mountains, with some very steep up and down hill stretches. The cruise control worked perfectly, even though I have a manual trans and it was in fifth gear all the way. The 2.4 litre engine has a lot of power.

I am from the very flat part of Ohio, but just completed two trips through the eastern US mountains.
NW Ohio to Harrisburg PA via the exciting PA turnpike, speed in low 70's, usual on cruise with air on. 23.52 mpg
NW Ohio to Surfside Beach SC, plenty of mountains, speed in mid 70's to low 80's, air & cruise, 23.72 mpg
