I'm shopping for Satellite radio
and I'm pretty green when it comes to this stuff.
I see threads on Delphi / XM / Sirius...etc...What's it all mean
I want a unit that can use the aux jack in the dash.
Also can be portable?????
Anybody got a recommendation on a unit and install???
Also, whats the scoop on monthly fees / subscription?
Thanks

I am an XM user and love it!!!! To answer your questions:
1. Delphi is a maker of Satellite receivers, like the Roady, Skyfi, Commander... XM and Sirius are two different satellite radio providers. XM is definately in the lead but Sirius is still a contender. Sirius,i think, is 100% commercial free while XM only has certain stations that are.
2. You can use most any unit with the AUX jack, on the Delphu Skyfi and Roady its just a simple 1/8 to 1/8 cable to hook it in.
3. If your looking for portability the Skyfi or Roady is the way to go. The skyfi uses cradles and can even be used in a boom box. I chose the roady because i liked its size and features and it is also portable. In fact last time I checked it included a free home kit.
4. The install is easy! I did mine myself I have pictures but I have NO CLUE how to post them. I installed my Roady just like this Skyfi is installed. http://www.fullastuff.com/element/xm/XM_interior1.jpg PM me and I will send you a pic of mine.
5. XMs monthly fee is around 10 bucks and I believe Sirius costs 13 or 14. With XM there is no contract just monthly, im not sure about Sirius.
Any more questions just post or PM me.[/url]

Thanks for the info BriBoy01....
If you can give me any other pointers on the installation, I'd appreciate it!
I got the XM put in my E. It is great for long trips, or listening to something different in town.
You can get an FM modulator that saves your AUX jack for an MP3 player if you want as well. The garage I had put it in, took off a lot of the plastic, and ran the wires behind. The FM mod is actually by the sub woofer.
I hope that helps a bit.

one friend uses XM, hes a long distance truck driver, another friend uses sirius. theyre both sold on the service. the one using sirius says if you pay a one time fee of 400.00 they absolve you from ever paying the monthly rate, otherwise i hear from both of them its around 10 bucks a month..
my problem with it is im a fossil. i like radio, and am so used to it being some sort of free entertainment. (spoiled spoiled spoiled) seems like a rip off to have to pay a subscriber fee for it now. seems tho many of the radio programming options i used to listen to are now on XM and have been taken off alltogether. couple that with my local options...and i will probably have to cave in to the pocketbook once more. :)
BBC world radio, once on shortwave is now on XM. KFI (AM Los Angeles) (i was a loyal nighttime listener had programming (phil Hendrie) which is on XM..lol. now live in ohio, too far to catch KFI anymore except when visiting out west..
oh modern dilemmas. what to do what to do..guess ill cruise over to best buy and check out the roady. might be the most no nonsense / low install option for the E.
anyone have any issues or complaints with thier satellite radios? id like to hear them before making a choice (against my own opinions lol!)
best

I've got the SkiFi, and have been very pleased with it. It's wired into the AUX, but I got a splitter, so I can plug another device (cassette recorder for book tapes) into the AUX without unplugging the XM. I like the versatility of the SkiFi, as I have the boombox on my desk at work.
But, my mother just had the Commander installed in her new Matrix and I'm very impressed with the Commander. It's small, but with a good display and a remote. If I were choosing between the Roady and Commander, I would go with the Commander, so check it out too before you buy.

OK I hate Chevy and Delphi so that includes XM
So I am going with Sirius Radio Clarion deck pre wired for Sirius radio - I will be pitching the OEM deck.

Much nicer than any add on unit
Plus plays mp3s and a crap load of other features

I have XM with the Delphi Roady - I also bought the Roady home kit too that allows me to bring inside and hook it up to my home stereo. It is a real easy install - though now my mp3 player is not hooked up - I am off to radio shack to get a 12 volt power adatpter with 2, 3 or 4 plug ins and a Y adapter for for the aux jack. XM channel selections is pretty good. I don't think I am satisfied with any radio unless I am doing the programing - hence the mp3 player - but I do hear artists that I've never heard before on XM. the is a XM fan http://www.xmfan.com/index.php that is like a big version of the Element Owners Club but for XM
