Yeah, but I'm thinkin' he hit a bigger "grain of sand".
MikeQBF 01-03-2004, 06:31 AM Any chance they can get that cracked windshield replaced under warranty? Would it pass the "pen test"?
There was an SSM DX on eBay back when I was shopping that had some manner of flood damage - about 2 feet or so. The electricals were summarily crap. Supposedly it was while parked, so aside from having to freshen all the lubricants the mechanicals were allegedly fine. When I last checked the bidding was also at about $5000.
It was within a day's drive, so the temptation was very large to check it out since I know my way around car electrics. But I thought about what it was really going to take and said to myself "Nope."
:?
zarathustra 01-03-2004, 07:33 AM Thats a light hit alot of people buy totaled wrecks and rebuild them.

It may have been a light hit, but apparently it was enough for the insurance carrier to total/scrap once the parts and labor were tallied. That's the thing with salvage cars - too expensive to be restored professionally, which means...
zarathustra 01-03-2004, 11:34 AM Well, they have to pass an inspection in most states and the matter of totaling a car in usually up to the adjuster. That is, many cars can be reparied but extra costs can be "found" to total a vehicle. By looking at that hit (doesnt look bad at all), you would never know the difference after it was repaired properly. Things like broken mounts on the transmission and blown airbags can skyrocket the cost of repair and total a vehicle, get someone with some knowhow and an arc welder and the car is fixable..........Seems to me the trend is making vehicles disposable like many other things I see.....Matter of the fact is, the thing is only 15K new, why bother fixing it......lol
brendan 01-03-2004, 02:42 PM FYI, that car had a blown airbag.

Mr. X Games 01-03-2004, 07:19 PM I read somewhere that the E being offered on EBay had a major electrical fire in it. If so, it could cost up to $10K to fix it, and it might still never be right again.
Can you even imagine the ticks, creaks, pops, etc that would come from a repaired Element like this one? Given that the thing is inherently noisy, just think what wonderful annoying sounds could come from one that has been in an accident! Sheeesh!

I wouldn't want it, I think it should be used for parts.....it will never be the same. I had a Trooper with the same type of damage and the problems were neverending after the accident.

Xenon-E 01-10-2004, 09:35 AM Well...someone bought it. Too bad they don't know about the page in the ownwer's manual regarding Elements sold with salvage titles will void the factory warranty....Or maybe they do know and bought it for parts. I certainly hope no one bought it with the hopes of making it a road car. That thing will never be right...
