Has anyone else experienced this? One cold morning, as I was starting the car, there was a honk accompanying the few intermitent beeps that sounds when the key initially goes in the hole. sounded weird, happened only once and never again since.

Perhaps you hit one of the buttons on the keyless/alarm? Or used the keyless to lock/arm the car, then began starting the car, triggering the alarm until the chip in the key was recognized?

nope, have not installed the keyless yet. the usual beeping sound is from not having buckled the safety belt before turning the car on, but that time I heard a distinct honking noise. thanks for the input though.

Maybe it was Eugene the Magical Jeep?
Yeah, I know, only HOWNOWCB will know who that is.

The tone of my beep is definitely different before and after startup. Typical situation - I'm waiting for the kids to get in the car, and I put in the key. I get the beeping sound. I fire up the engine, and the beeping changes - it has sort of a distorted/ fuzzy/ honk sound to it.

And even though I'm only mid thirties, I remember Jeep from Popeye. I can do a great imitation of the "Jeep, Jeep" sound he makes. I'm sure everyone is impressed. Will hownowcb regale us of stories of taking the trolley to the movie theater to see Tom Mix, and seeing Popeye before the feature?

First, though flattered by the "recognition", let's deal with the facts - I've heard the noise Bill has - kind of a cartoon version of what the beeping noise normally sounds like, but with a headache or a sore throat. Not often, but mostly when it's colder out, and I've heard that same version of the sick beep in other car brands in similar situations. But I can't say I know the sound ckyi is referring to. Maybe a loose ground connection at the horn exacerbated by contraction of metal in the cold? Dunno.

On to the age thing - my parents were weird - thought TV was evil, so I grew up listening to Jack Benny and Dragnet on the damn radio! Other folks in my small town thought fluoridating the water was a Communist plot and had to be ordered by the state supreme court to comply! Saw Dr. Strangelove when I was very young (honest) and am still amazed that Stanley Kubrick and Peter Sellers could have predicted Henry Kissenger right down to his accent almost ten years before he existed! But am I old? Some days, for sure!

Not me! My dad taught history *and* is still a big kubrick fan.

I'm lost as to this magic jeep thing but kubrick was a genius.

anyway. it happened again and a better description of the sound would be like whistling. It like faint honks but windy like the car is trying to whistle. maybe my car is the magic jeep.
