Glad to see some people finally responded. I posted like a long time ago. I see lots of Elements in town here so I thought it would be a sure thing. Nice to see ann Arbor represented. I don't know about the wrestling thing though. It doesn't affect me the same as porn. So what's up? I've only had my Element for 2 months and I already have a chip in the windsheild! :x Freaking road salt.

Hey, good to see some action happening on the MI board.
What color is your AA E? I have seen numerous E's around town but only one person seemed to indicate to me that she knew she is part of an exclusive club :-) See you around town (my E is black with the dog in the back seat).

I've just sold my car and am now actively looking for a dealer to purchase my Element (EXS 4WD - FBP or SOP) and am looking for some dealer reviews. I've never actually had to deal with a dealer, so I'm a little gun-shy.

Does anyone have any reviews of the following dealers in the Ann Arbor area:

Art Moehn Honda (Jackson)

Howard Cooper Honda (Ann Arbor)

Fischer Honda (Ypsi)

Brighton Honda (Brighton)

Suburban Honda (Farmington Hills)

Thanks much,

I got my '04 SOP manual EX this Jan. I can't remember any vehicle that I have enjoyed as much. On the road others in Es wave at me. I wave back. People of all ages, race, etc. - makes no difference. That alone makes E ownership more fun than I imagined.

Beyond that it has met my personal and business needs very well. The elementownersclub has been a great source of info and camaraderie too.

Hi, all. Greetings from Jackson. I have an 04 EX, since July. There are maybe 6 or so around Jackson; there is an elderly couple in their 70s whom I often see near downtown and we always wave and smile. I have 17k miles on mine already and am often up in Harrison and Oakland and Macomb Counties. I think it's be cool to have a winter rally where we have a convoy of Es driving up to the bridge and back...

I'm a former Dean staffer, and I think the Gov would give the E a big heartfelt scream... cheers!

I don't know about Michigan, but I find my driveway is the best year-round camping up in my neck of the woods.
Always a good place to park, plenty of trees, and the best spot to lay my head (for me, at least...):D

Actually, why would you want year round camping? It's COLD this time of year!!!!

Wish I did but most of the state campgrounds, if they are open, have limited facilities. No showers, modern toilets and no dump stations or water fillups.
Doesn't stop the hunters on November 15th though.

If you find a good one please post it. We did camp at Hoeft Park near Rogers City when there was a cold snap that went below 20 F at night. Kinda brisk. It was fun anyway.

As far as campgrounds go, there is a GREAT campground near the Pine River on M 37 it is named Kestelwoods. They have 5 very very clean bath houses with hot showers. Water, electric and fire pit at every campsite Dump station for RV'ers. Basketball hoop, volley ball, 4 shuffel board courts, 4 horshoe pits.
Oh yea there is a heated pool too! This place is as clean as a hospital. They are open April through November.

My E is about due for an oil change and I thought it might be a good time to find a local dealer before the warranty is gone. Any suggestions? Victory in Plymouth is probably closest but I'll travel if someone has a better idea.

Did I see your Orange/Apple E at North Peak Brewery in Traverse City, early Feb, a Wed night? Heading to mine, noticed yours parked 2 spots away. I had just read this thread a few days earlier and remembered your description. I see that was posted 2 years ago. Are you still the owner? Still loving the E? Living "Apple-E" ever after? <groan>

Hi Clyde.

There are a lot of well-maintained State Parks up in the Traverse City area, but they're usually pretty crowded. I don't know what kind of camping you like to do, but if you want to do it on or near Lake Michigan, you're not going to find much in the way of seclusion. Here's a link to the parks in that area:

http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/parknav/manisteearea.htm

If you've never gone, I suggest heading up to the Bruce Penninsula in Ontario. It's around a 4 hour drive from Flint, and it contains some of the most spectacular hikes within 500 miles. It's part of the Niagra Escarpment, a line of limestone cliffs that stretch across the northern part of the great lakes. I used to camp there as a kid, and have been back several times as an adult. Here's a link to the Ministry web site:

Thanks. Is the peninsula in Canada you mentioned near Sauble Beach? I've only heard good things.

gladestrider
03-06-2006, 08:15 PM
Yes, as a matter of fact Sauble Beach and Sauble Falls are right along the way. Shortly after you pass Sauble Beach, you take Hwy 6 north. That large penninsula is the Bruce.

I mentioned 4 hours from Flint, but it actually takes less time if you don't stop along the way. One of my favorite places to stop for lunch is a town called Bayfield. It's a quaint little town with a couple of great pubs/restaurants, a bookstore, and a several interesting little shops. Stopping along the way to see Sauble Falls and/or beach is fun too. Another one of my favorite spots is a little restaurant called Rocky Racoon's. It's in a tiny little town on Owen Sound, in a building that used to be an old house and fruit market. A Prof from the University of Toronto runs the place and cooks there in the summer, and also displays some of his paintings. I haven't been there in a few years, so it may no longer be open, however. There are dozens of great out-of-the-way spots like that all along the coastlines.

One of these days I'm going to backpack part of the Bruce Trail, that runs right up the penninsula. It's a real ankle-turning trail though, not one to tackle alone.

Edit: SPeaking of backpacking, if you're a backpacker you have to spend a weekend on South Manitou Island. The Ferry shuttles people from Fishtown (Leeland) to the island once (maybe twice) a day, but it's a two hour ride with some fantastic views of the dunes. Backpacking on the island is one of the more unique trips I've made.

If you're looking for E company--and you probably already know this--there's a Honda dealer right in Grand Blanc. There's also a new WalMart Super Store across the street--perhaps a good place to cruise and show off. Enjoy.

Yep, Honda of Grand Blanc is where I bought mine. I don't really recommend them however, since they're a "one-price" dealer and won't haggle. I only decided to purchase though them because they gave my just under max blue-book for my civic.

I don't shop at Walmart if I can avoid it. My office is about a mile away from there however, so I doubt I'll avoid it entirely. I'm much more excited about the Panera Bread opening up in the plaza east of the new Evil Empire complex.

Any Element Owners in Michigan interested in having an E-Drive In at Roxy's in St. Joe on Red Arrow Highway?

If we get enough interest, I'll post a date and time and we'll see what happens!

F.Y.I. - Took a couple of co-workers for a spin in our E yesterday and they fell in love with her! "She's so ugly she's beautiful!" and "Definitely not a sexy ride, but she's too cool to ignore." were two of the more memorable comments...both from the person who informed me that he is trading in his Toyota for an E! Now that SHE has officially been assigned a gender, we'll have to name this orange beauty! Any thoughts?

It's only a matter of time before we convert the world!

After the first of the year sounds great. If we don't drum up enough interest then, maybe in the summer...when it's drive-in weather.

We've noticed a few E's (mostly gray or green) around St. Joe/BH/Stevensville, and I've exchanged waves with some of them.

Happy Holidays!
