I have a Sirius satellite Audiovox receiver hooked into the aux of my Element. I am having problems with white noise or alternator noise. If I perfectly position the jack in a way where I hear no noise it is fine, until I hit a bump or something, then the noise is back. It’s like the jack is not getting a good connection. I have tried a few jacks, and get the same result. Maybe the jack is not shielded, or maybe where it plugs it into the receiver is faulty. The white noise is not loud enough where I can't here the music, just enough to bug the heck out of me. I have seen a few of these jacks with RF chokes on both ends. Have any of you tried the audio jack with RF chokes? Is anyone else having the same problem? I figured out tonight if I pull the jack down near the audio in on the receiver, the noise goes away. I was thinking about velcroing the cable down the side of it on the receiver. The jack is somehow getting a better connection when tugged down against the receiver. I hope this makes since. I am contemplating taking the car kit back and getting a new one, to see if that fixes it. What do you think?
Thanks!
Brett

I use my XM receiver and get no noise... does the noise change with engine speed? If so you may need a GLI but you shouldn't. Perhaps your input has a problem that should be covered by the dealer.

This sounds like a ground loop problem to me, so I'd go with BriBoy's suggestion about the GLI. When you're tugging on the connector you might actually be disconnecting the audio ground and therefore eliminating the loop.

Thanks for the reply,
I found the XMfan website late last night. It seems a lot of people have battled this same problem. Most are fixing the problem with the GLI. So I popped into Radio Shack and grabbed one. Will install it in a few days and tell you if it was the fix for my noise problem. Does anyone know of a Sirius fan website like that of the XMfan website. They have a ton of good info.

I had the same problem. Asked around and got the same suggestions. Found out the plug wasn't pushed in all the way. DOH!
I bought all the components to fix a non-problem.
Occasionally the plug comes loose and the noise starts again........
