We've also been talking for years about going, and the E would make a good base of operations for the event.

Unfortunately, the fact that WE (retired accountant) might go means Burning Man has jumped the shark and no longer worth going to, so its a Catch 22 for us!

No Brendon I promise I don't do that
Speaking of which my wife works in a public/medical library with free internet acess. I was talking to her on the phone this morning. She told me 4 cops were standing behind this guy at a computer while he was "studying" porn for like 5 minutes. He was helped to the exit. they have finally decided to get a security guard there.

Who's going to burning man this year! I took my element in '03, there were about over a dozen I saw in camp, and 2 parked on the same block as I! We drove from philadelphia with 3 bikes, 4 hipsters, and way too much crap strapped every which way. Before driving into the desert we covered it in turtle wax, and put a big fat "Man" on the side - I'll look for some pics.

So, who's goin! Tickets on sale now!

POST YOUR ELEMENT BURNING PICS!

I'm going but this year I'm flying. It is likely that one of my friends will be driving our Element though.

If you are one of the Element gang, I'm happy to give a short sightseeing flight. Send me a PM a couple of weeks before the big gathering.

I'm going to Burning Man again this year and I'm reluctantly driving my E out there. However, it's only a couple of months old and I hate to subject it to the playa dust. I've figured that it's going to be the cheapest alternative for me. Plus, the E is supposed to be a vehicle for this kind of use, after all.

Has anyone taken theirs out there, any thoughts? Anyone else share my pain?

I had no idea how sheltered my life has become! Well, maybe thirty years ago this would have sounded like fun. :)

I went. For my tenth time but this was my first time taking my brand new Element.

Question: If you went, have you gotten the Element clean yet? We did the first wash with water and little vinegar (to deal with the alkali), but the car is still not in tip top shape.

What did you use to get it back to its pre-playa condition?

My element is only 5 months old so I still wonder whether I should have taken it or not. But it was such a fun car to take. I had actually bought a roof cargo box thinking I'd need it to haul stuff in. I didn't even use it. I loaded all my gear and my friend's stuff in the E with the back seats out and didn't even fill the entire back area, I could still look out of the rear window.

Anyhow, I figure every time I wash it I have to do mini detailing on different areas. I didn't use vinegar but I did sponge clean most of the interior. Also, my AC now smells like playa dust and that bugs me.

I'm taking my E for it's 10k tune-up and having them power wash the engine tomorrow and change air filters/any sort of intake stuff. I read that on the BM site.

The playa dust is amazing though, it resurfaces on anything even after several wipes. I used Meguiars Gold wipes on the plastic panels because those ended up with some streaks and water stains; my E was on a corner and got splashed by the water truck a couple of times.

My E made it there AND back without a hitch. I was pushing it way over spec with gear floor to ceeling, 3 passengers (total), over 50 gallons of water (aprx. 450lbs), 3 bikes on a hitch mounted bike rack and two roof boxes packed full. Power and handling was affected but with cautious driving it wasn't an issue. I ran the AC for 4 hours during Exodus in stopped traffic (in the middle of the desert) and it didn't even phase the E. It'll be back on the playa next year for sure...

Yeah, that's a long drive! I'd reccommend flying into Reno, rent an RV, drive to BM, have fun for 7 days, fly home.

You wouldn't be the first to do it. Don't tell the RV rental outfit you're taking the RV to BM. They don't liek that. Bring extra water. RV's don't store nearly enough for 7 days of drinking, showering, and dishwashing.

Hmmm.... I like that thought!
