Is anyone driving north, through the central coast, on Tuesday 9/21?

Jet

methinks that E Campers are either there and camping or headed South back to So Cal.
Central Coast is a Big Area, Can you be more specific ?

I'll be cruzing down the coast (Highway 1) from Monterey - San Luis Obispo" on Thrusday and Friday the 23th and 24th if that's any help to you.

I believe some peeps will be leaving Klamath on Monday and Tuesday but I don't know of anyone arriving on those days.

Golly Geepers Dan - it sure would be cool to have you along with us.
Any chance you could.... do a one-way rent a car?
If you can get yourself up to Klamath and drop a rental off in either Eureka or Crescent City, I bet we collectively could figure out a ride back to Salinas for you.

Have been pushing the numbers around for quite a while. Best I can do on a rental I can live with is $300. That plus a 12-hour solo drive (Route 1 as much as possible) are making it hard to justify. With Enterprise I could do a dropoff in Eureka (2 hours round-trip from Klamath, yikes), or Hertz to Crescent City (1:20), but at $256/$260, the savings is minimal. The one-way dropoff fees are the killer.

Budget Car Rental says they can get you done for $249.50
Monday thru Friday w/unlimited mileage.

There's an Avis Car Rental in Salinas too and they might be even cheaper.

I’ll have to see how well it works. I liked the idea that the cargo carrier was
down where I can reach it easily. I can also still open the upper back hatch
with the carrier installed, and if I want to open the lower hatch I can pull a
pin and the carrier swivels to the side.

http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/pics/6/8/684_open_500.jpg

My only complaint is that it doesn’t stand up on its own when on the ground.
I found that two of these jack stands fit under it well, though I have to
remove the yellow part, and I already had them lying around my garage.

Lol to be honest.. i was just going back thru the posts today... we are getting really excited!! I have no idea what to bring as far as food etc.. You guys keep talking about making all of these delicious sounding dishes.. you need to tell us what we should bring?? I know alex plans on bringing a few bottles of wine. Thats a given with him :) We were just out in the yard setting up our new tent. Its like a small condo.. we love it!! Ellie is doing ok.. should hopefully be fixed by the end of next week. The fun part is when i see her put together for the first time.. usually i have a disagreement with the body shop on what she should look like. If i see one speck of dirt in the paint or the plastic dosent match.. back in she goes lol.

Just bring what ever it is you guys might like to eat.
We intend to bring all of our non perishable foods with us. (canned, bottled and dry stuff)
Better to buy that stuff down here (should be cheaper) instead of up there in Klamath.
Meats and perishable food items we will purchase once we get to Klamath.
There's a Costco and Farmers Market in Eureka we'll go to for those items.

Glad to hear Ellie is on the mend.

I'll be posting a list of all the camping gear and provisions we'll be bringing to Klamath.
People can use it as a reference or reminder of things they might want to bring to camp with them.

Miss Ellie & Co.

I finally got around to taking some picks of my new cargo carrier.

81746

Here is what it looks like with the tailgate down.

81747

The tailgate doesn't open 100%, but it still opens far enough to gain
accesses to my junk.
Tough I can't sit on it because the hitch mount hits the center plastic
part of the tailgate just above the license plate.

So is that the one from Mission Viejo? (The infamous CL post)

You probably confused a few people with the earlier pics showing someone else's red E.

I am sorry to say that I will be heading to New Mexico on Tuesday for a 2 month trip and will not be at KK.

I will be taking campsite photos at all of their State Parks.

Here is the route in 2 pics cuz there are too many locations for google maps:

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l223/wgwood/BottomlessLakestoHome_Page_1.jpg?t=1283557789

On the way back I am going to visit Rock Creek Lake Resort where Glen is hanging out and take photos for their new website.

Yes, somebody has to be paid to go camping.

So I hope that you all have a great time and take lots of photos. Oh, and try to get Trina and Ric to do another rap video.

Just in case some of the new Campin' Fools have not seen the original, here it is: Clicky (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-745779096574570933&pr=goog-sl#) :-)

The weather should be good for you guys, just watch out for this:

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l223/wgwood/Bigfoot.jpg

I know I keep reposting the video and bigfoot, but it makes me laugh.

Take care my friends and hopefully we can meet up at Marilyn's later on this year.

Greg

dude, Rock Creek is probably one of the most amazing places that I have been to in my life. Given that I grew up in the Yosemite area, that's a huge compliment.

Be sure to stop by "Pie in the Sky" if I were Barbie driving by in my Pink Corvette there is no way that I wouldn't stop by for a slice of Dutch Apple Pie and a bottle of Fat Tire beer.

Nod nod, wink wink, say no more.

OK Greg - you have yourself a grand time camping New Mexico.
Make sure to get some pics of the Rio Grande Gorge outside of Taos.
(don't lean too far over the rail on the bridge - it's a very looooong way down.)

We're all looking forward to extreme camping foolishness.
Trina & Ric have promised another Rap vid (we may have an actual stage for them to perform on) should be dope!

According to my contacts with the Mirkwood Elves and some of the local Ewoks, the comparisons you've been making of Big Foot to me is not something that Mr. Foot appreciated.
Probably better you don't attend as word has gotten back to the real Big Foot and he's super pissed.

He is stalking you as I type and on his way to New Mexico to see you in person.
New Mex is not known for Big Foot sightings but you're about change all that.
My advice?
Bring extra changes of underwear - mee thinks you'll need em!

Special Labor Day Edition:

KLAMATH MONDAY NIGHT CAMP CHAT

Tonight 8:00 PM PST

DJEMBE
09-07-2010, 11:16 AM
Very hectic ten days for me - Mickie my bellydancing partner and I have a performance this Sunday at the LA County Fair (during this show I'll also drop some knowledge, solo) and we are rehearsing new moves tomorrow night in my living room. I must re-outfit my E for the trip. Oil change. Serious Laundry. I cannot miss one minute of my dayjob. Cleaned out my closet this weekend and donated five bags of clothes - but now I also have a plethora of drycleaning on the items hanging at the back for oh, ten+ years.

Allypie is coming down this weekend and then it'll be difficult to see her for the next two months during the Lompoc wine harvest (this is why she's not coming to Klamath - damn grapes). By the way - I've pre-paid for two chicken dinners on Saturday night but will be using only one, so if anyone's hungry.....

I am missing the Camper Van Beethoven campout show at Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace this weekend. I am also missing MODESELEKTOR at El Rey Theater in LA on Thurs Sept 23 (AHHHHHHHH!). Gene - do you have the new Arcade Fire? I'll trade you for a copy of the new Underworld which I've pre-ordered and arrives next Tuesday.

Greg - your NM camping trip looks spectacular! I'd like to take that very route someday - I've already done pieces of it.

Okay - hope to remember camp chat next Monday.

Ric - LOL!
You're busier than a one legged man in a butt kickin contest.
WTG brother!

Richelle and I went to Best Buys to get a new camera Saturday.
(got a bitchin Candy Apple Red, Nikon Coolpix - we're very excited!)
While I was there I looked for the new Arcade Fire CD.
Sold out but they will restock this week - I'll get it then.
But I did pick up two new CDs from 3 Brooklyn, NY bands I really like.

The National ~ High Violet
School of Seven Bells ~ Disconnect from Desire
Also looking for this tune from Amazing Baby - but it's not on thier "Rewild" CD.
I gotta have this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXIPy6kmuQ8&feature=related

Wow - I didn't know Underworld is releasing a new CD but I'm thrilled that they are!
Yes I will trade w/you!

Getting so stoked about the trip now - the anticipation has me spazzing out several times per day.

CYA in Chat next Monday

Labor Day Monday Night Camp Chat Notes:

Had a great time in Chat last night.
Good turn out.
Everyone’s packing and preparing.

A few group feeds happening at camp on Sunday starting with what looks like a Pot Luck Group Breakfast to be followed by a Pot Luck Group Dinner Sunday night.
The Gag Gift Exchange will also happen on Sunday Night as we have a few peeps who’ll be leaving on Monday and we gotta get that in.
So remember - don’t forget your Gag Gifts!

Elemen O.P. is still waiting for his new trailer to arrive from East Coast - it's getting down to the wire and we hope it gets to him in time for the trip.

Imperience, Elemen O.P. Junebug and Dog Owned are caravaning from Santa Rosa to the Redwoods. People are advised to bring FRS radios for that.
It will be super fun!

No one has any idea about what our camping digs look like other than the few pics posted on the web site.
But I spoke to Aaron at Kamp Klamath last Thursday and he’s got some cool digs all set up for us and he’s sure we’ll love it.
I’m confident that it will be wonderful.

Don’t know about the weather – still too soon to tell but it could be wet at times.
Make sure you have a rain fly for your tent, a poncho or rain jacket and a new set of windshield wiper blades.
It may drizzle, we could get occasional showers, it will be foggy at times and don’t expect much heat.
We're literally right on the coast so we’ll have to drive 10 to 20 miles inland for the hot weather and river swimming but it's there if you want and lots of it!

Next Monday is the last camp chat before the trip so try to be there if you can!

Jet

I too may join the Caravan in Santa Rosa since we are planning to spend the night with the Vineyards (Ms Jet's maiden name).
Sorry about abandoning the Camp Chat last night; I tried to keep up with the banter but I finally Passed out from Stupidity.
This past weekend I unpacked my Camping Trailer, cleaned off all the Death Valley mud and sand from the Feb Camp-out and was shocked to find my tent smelled like mildew and wet socks. I was able to hose it out thoroughly (much like the Element) and let it dry prior to repacking. I've decided I'm going to reduce the weight and leave a bunch of crap behind. (Horse Shoes, 3 cast Iron skillets, Firewood, my Vuvuzelas. )
Maybe I will be able to keep up with the Caravan for a few miles.

See ya Monday night.

Miss Ellie & Co.
09-07-2010, 05:43 PM
Jet - what no horse shoes!?!
I have a two day Horseshoe Contest on the schedule at camp.
It will be faboo fun - Klamath has horseshoe pits (Disc Golf too) so they probably have shoes available as well.
And now that I think about it -
I bet your horseshoes are probably loaded like illegal dice in Las Vegas.
So leaving them at home is a good idea but be sure to bring Duffy! (he's one of the contest judges)

Joining the caravan from Imperience's house to Klamath?
Good move!
Sure to be hysterical fun rolling with those chuckleheads!
(Try not getting arrested before ya'll get to Klamath)
Hope you guys moon one another on the road - if so please take some pics!
The preverts among us will want to see that!

Elemen-O-P
09-07-2010, 05:46 PM
Hey Dave, if you tag along with the caravan, more than likely you'll be goin the same speed as me...if I have the trailer that is. So don't worry about keeping up, we'll be there to keep you company if the leadfoots leave us in their dust.

Speaking of the trailer, I called sylvan sport today and I am confident I'll have the silly thing in time. Let's just hope they play nice, I've been very tolerant of their shipping procedures to this point and they don't want me getting nasty on 'em.

Anyone interested in the Saturday morning Santa Rosa caravan should send me a PM and I'll reply with my address. I am guessing that even though Paul wants to leave early we'll probably head out somewhere between 7 and 8am so that we can get there early in the day. We can all stay together as a group and drive up as to make sure the trailer folks make it safely. Even if it means cruising around the legal speed limit. :D

Hey all. Have some good news!! We finally got our ellie back from the body shop! She is looking pretty good, still fixing some little things (I am a perfectionist lol) its driving the body shop nuts! Now i am just crossing my fingers that a bunch of parts i ordered will make it in time for me to install. I was planning to install a new starter, new struts, sway bar end links and bushings, as well as new brakes. Having her in the shop for 3 weeks has really killed my timeline.. but if the parts come in time i will just spend some late nights in the garage getting her ready to go. Getting really excited about the trip though!!

I need to make arrangements for someone to come my house and Car-jack Me, Duffy, the E and the Trailer w/ kayaks (don't wake Jeannie). It now appears that I'm being cursed with too much work and it;s not just your average work, it's the "Bid it too High and scare them away" type of work. One of the jobs is "Final Destination 5" which may be done by the time I leave and the other is a Jackie Chan Movie that I've been bidding, developing, sourcing, designing for 6 months and they just called and said they (2 or 3) were flying over on Tuesday and bringing their Checkbook. Maybe I'll just take the money and run.

You won't need much in the way of pointers.
Kamp Klamath is fish central - we'll have all sorts of helpful info from our campground host.

Oooo, a potluck!
Ok, so I really really want to bring the thing I always bring to potlucks.
I make a gourmet, from scratch chocolate spongecake/coffee mousse cakeroll. I can make it a day ahead and freeze it for the trip up because it has to be refrigerated until you eat it. It's easy to make enough for a group. I'm thinking of this because we were really planning on our camp food to be minimalist backpacking food cuz we were wanting to do a lot of hiking, so I do not wish that on anyone else in a potluck. :|

*she thinks to herself: maybe if I bring that, they will invite me back. Check that. Maybe if I bring that, we can throw it at Big Foot as a distraction to get away when he attacks to stop our campground mayhem.*

U Betcha!

There will be two Pot Lucks meals on Sunday.

The first is breakfast and it will consist of whatever anybody's got hanging around in their coolers.
We figuring that someone could bust out some eggs, someone else some bacon or sausages, juices, toast, muffins and whatever.
We certainly won't want for coffee with this crew has many pro java heads with us.
So there will be lotza primo coffees to get all cranked up on.

The Pot Luck Dinner will be a bit more involved.
It's actually a Pot Luck Dinner BBQ but peeps can bring and make anything they want to.
We have awsome cooks with us so it will be a damn good feed!

Sorry, for the silence, via the chat room and the forum. As some know I have had technical difficulties in the chat room. When I am writing I can only put in a few letters and it gets entered on its own. It is like having laryngitis where you want to talk but can't. I will try again on Monday with a different computer.

Anyhow, I sure am getting excited about this trip, I can't believe it is almost time - next week yikes! Tomorrow is the big push for me to start packing and plan/shop for some food. We are coming for 8 nights (will be there on Friday night).

David (Jet) - Glad business is doing great, but I hope nothing keeps you from flying up here (via the freeways). If you are tired, perhaps Duffy can drive for awhile for you!

Mark and John (Accodguy03) - Good to hear your E has had a full recovery, looking forward meeting you.

Andy (imperience)and others going from Santa Rosa. Steve and I live about 30 miles north of you (Novato). Most likely will drive solo as we have some stops to make. We are bound to see you on the drive and wave, if it works out we may even be able to join for lunch somewhere. I will get in touch with you for your phone #

Paul (Element-O-P) - Looking forward to seeing your new trailer - it better come in time! I was looking at those as well, very cool!

Bob (faheyd) - Steve wants to know if you are going to open up the ice cream sales to all of us (from the trailer).

Rick (DJEMBE) - Don't tell us you are only going to bring the empty "Element" wine bottles! That busts the bubble of the sweet dreams of "Element" wine we all have had. Oh well with a new RAP song we can forgive you (if Trina is up to it after her whirlwind trip). Bummer you have to miss so many events while gone, seems like that always happens when there is a planned trip.

Marilyn (Sloport) - I can't believe you are not coming with us. There is water up there (lots of it). However, lets do some planning for an event down your way! The location will be good for the North and South folks.

John (Free man E) - Looking forward to seeing your new storage unit for all the "toys", thanks for sharing the pic's. I like how it swings out from the tailgate.

John (Farther) - Glad we will not have to be missing the entertaining Corgi crew. I have a video link I will be posting coming up that you will like.

Greg (wgwood) - Bummer you can't come but I am jealous of you taking a long trip, all paid for, to do nothing but camp and snap pictures, how cool is that.

Glen - Sounds like you can't get away, you will be missed - the fish are lucky.

Todd (E biker) - Very sorry to hear it did not work out for you to come. there is always the next trip. I sure enjoyed spending time with you and Betsy in the Tetons.

Gene (Miss Ellie & Co) - Thanks for all the hard work you have done to organize! By the way, my name is spelled Melanie, I think I saw it spelled with 2n's somewhere. Not to worry, no lawsuit since you are a nice guy.

Trina (Junebug) - Rumor has it we have no scones to look forward to, it is not fair, you have spoiled us. Guess I will have to learn from the "Master" how to bake them some day.

Josh (Bikerjosh) - Congrats on the new place for you and Kristen- will send you a PM on that. I am glad you can still come even for a few days.

Box3Rox - You are coming I trust, I see you on the list, Obi has some great water to explore.

James (Chefjames) - Trust you have your route figured out, so glad you got the time off to come. You will love the coast, very dif then Death Valley.

Califorium as well as Dog Owned (Tanya and John) - Looking forward to meeting you all, plus Junebug's travel companion as well as faheyd's mystery guest.

See ya soon, fellow E campers.

Gene has been doing a great job to line us up in things to do on the trip. Didn't I see something about having dog races in the water? The water dogs such as Obi better watch out, the Corgi's can do water sports as well! At least per this video - see for yourself.

Yeah Melanie!

Bout time we heard from you.
Are we getting excited yet?

Just spent the morning at DMV.
Had to re-new my license. Did so on-line 3 weeks ago and it still hasn't arrived in the mail.
So this morning down to DMV I go - stood in line for an hour and got my D.L. extention.
Now I can drive all around Calfornia and not worry bout it.

Don't think Box4Rox and Obi the Wonder Dog will make it to Klamath but who knows... maybe they'll surprise us.
But most of the rest of the Camping Fools will be there along with some new ones and a grand time is in store for everyone!

PS: don't count on the name tags - some snags developed and I'm running out of time.
However; those who still insist on having name tags will be thrilled to know that I am bringing a Sharpie along and will gladly write thier names on thier foreheads.

Hi everyone!

I want to be at chat tonight but I have no cable and that football game is NOT going to watch itself! I'm also supposed to go out for Bar Trivia Night at the YORK in Highland Park at 9pm tonight (if you come we can form a team - up to 8 people).

Of course, I have not lifted Finger One to outfit my E and I have lots of laundry that beckons. Ahhhhh.

I was so engrossed in packing that I forgot the chat time! As things happen, I did not get the time I planned to pack on the weekend, so need to do this each night and get the food together.

Plus I have a new item to pick up on Thurs for the trip, I will no say in advance what it is but - a hint is I will not be bringing my usual tent. Nothing like last min purchases.

We are leaving Fri am and taking our time to get up there. I will be sure to look for other fellow campers that we be on the road.

Hi gang,

Just an update about our plans for the meet.

As some of you know, we had our first child on July 31st, Sophia Jade. We have been looking forward to the meet and to get her little feet wet on her first camping/road trip. There are a few things we need to do up in northern cali before we attempt to make it over to Redwoods though.

We are going to be heading up to Susanville for a friends wedding reception over this coming weekend and to spend a little time with the family. We then want to head over to Weaverville to have little Sophia meet her great-grandfather before he passes.

We will then see if we can make it over to the coast to spend a day or two in the redwoods with you guys before heading back down. Hopefully things go smoothly and we make a successful loop, but we will take it day to day and see how the little one takes to the long trips, so far she hates her car seat, lol.

If all goes well, we hope to see you guys in a week!:-)

I'm bringing a 800W inverter that will handle up to 7.14 amps for 60 min..
So if anyone wants too, throw in an old mixer so we can make margarita's.:-)
Just make sure it doesn't draw more than 800W. It will handle surges of
a 1000 W or so but just for a few seconds.

Have a safe trip Gene & Richelle.

I'm heading to BevMoDee to obtain the ingredients for Marmalade Manhattans.
I have four full bottles of Element wine and two empties (candleholders).

My new season of dodgeball starts tonight in Eagle Rock and I can't wait to meet the cool kids.

I think I'm going to leave around 12:01am Friday morning and drive up the 101 where there is a scheduled Minunteman missile launch starting at 3am out of Vandenberg which is below a ridge from my girlfriend's home in Lompoc. I've never been near a launch before and I'm a rocketry club geek from the 70s.

See everyone Friday night.

If only i had checked the posts before we left! We were about 2 hours away from home and running thru our mental check lists, and realized we had forgotten towels (In the dryer) and our pillows... go figure. Fortunately we made it to Grants Pass this evening, and practically next door to our hotel is a super walmart! :) Now i just have to figure out how to pack more stuff into the poor little car. John! That 360 view is great! For the folks at home please note several things that may seem strange in the picture. Yes, there is a goat. There is also a tent city. And yes there is also a Subaru in the picture.

We took a right hand turn out of the camp on our way home today and were treated to some beautiful coastal views and some super sweet dirt roads that the wrx seemed to be made for. My Melanie finally got to see why I love driving sideways on dirt so much.

We played leapfrog with Ric about 3 times down 101 until he turned off in Meyers Flat where we had camped before. He probably didn't see us the last two times however I do have a strange propensity to scream ELEMENT and point at boxy vehicles on the road. We had a great stop in Eureka at the Lost Coast Brewing Co, and it was a bit sad knowing that the vacation was coming to an end with each passing mile. ( I may just steal that last line for my blog)

Thanks again Gene and all of the wonderful E-peeps who made this a magical trip indeed.

John - Thanks again for the sweet electric fly swatter. :D muahah!

Gene and Richelle - It always seems like such a short time spent and I wish that the trips would last longer and we could hear more of the crazy stories that you have. I think I bashed my forehead into your lamps only a couple times and I am very thankful that they weren't burning at the time. Enjoy the rest of your trip home. Win big in Reno and lets start chatting about a Big Sur or Morro Bay/Pismo trip.

John and Tonya (Johnya?) - Thank you again for the wonderful tea and the laughter. I can't wait to work on the set list for the next camping trip. We heard Orange Crush by REM on the FM on the way home and I suddenly got inspired to do more than just thump on a drum for our next group session. I would absolutely love to get in a flute session sometime as well, so beautiful. I hope you had a great hike on the way home and that it was everything you were hoping to pack into the preceding 2 days.

Mel and Steve - Once again always fun to chat and see what new gadgets you've added to the E since the last trip. Next time you're up in Schollenberger park let me know and we can go for a walk. I know there is a non-profit organization that gives guided bird tours there - check out http://www.prbo.org

Ric, Ric, Ric - Hanna M is going to be finding a permanent home on my front bumper as soon as I can clean all the mud and bugs off. I am going to have to try and figure out how to make a poor man's Marmalade Martini because that was just too good! Enjoy Mr. Bun. :D

Bob and Ms. Bob. Or Dylan and Ms Dylan. - Please send me more lumpia in the mail. I couldn't stop eating it and if anyone though that they heard a bear on Sunday night, that was just me looking for ice chests in your E and a midnight snack.

John and Marilyn - Your Corgis were very wet and possibly even more cute than ever. I am looking forward to the next trip where we can spend more time catching up, playing banjos and talking about hiking and teardrop trailers.

Randy and Alex - You two were a ton of fun and I do plan on hanging out with both of you when I finally make it up to Seattle. I hope that you have an absolutely wonderful time with Mickey and that the rest of your trip is just as much of an adventure as the begining. Enjoy Yosemite! Don't forget to check out the Ansel Adams gallery and be sure to keep your eyes wide open because there is beauty everywhere you look! Remember to take a ton of pictures and to take the time to enjoy where you are and your journey. Also if you go over the pass through Tuolumne Meadows toward 395 be sure to stop at the Mobile Station in Lee Vining and have a Fish Taco at the Whoa Nellie Deili because they are the best that I have had this side of the Mexico border. I fully intend to finally sign up for an Amazon account and detail my car soon, promise!!

Paul and Lacy (and the damn zipper chewing dog) - A pleasure as always! Mel and I talked about it on the way home and we can't wait to see your new addition. Mel's advice was that new parents should train their children to their lifestyle, so we fully expect that you'll be ready to camp again 2012 with 4 instead of 3. We can't wait to see you again and do more cooking and relaxing, and peeing in plastic bags.

Did I forget anyone?

Oh yes. Trina and Cathy! Mmmmmraaaow! We'll always have Friday night and the memories to ourselves. Heh heh heh. I can't wait to see you both again in your natural habitat and I hope that it is soon.

#4 - you were a complete bi-polar d-bag. Thanks for the Jameson, but really, you should probably spend more time working on your sister/mother/daughter relationships and less time enjoying the greenery.

I'm very loving mood tonight after the trip, so each and every person that I got to spend time with over the short camping holiday is going to hold a special memory for me and the good times that we got to share. My co-workers are going to see me with a glazed over expression over the next few weeks, and it's because of the wonderful time that I got to have camping with remarkable friends. Especially the goat.

I will also give a call to AAA and ask them why the @()*# the endorse Kamp Klamath and their crap-ass facilities. I'm glad we got an entire field to ourselves and got to be obnoxious as we wanted to.

EOC Camping Fools: THAT WAS SOOOO FUN!!!!!

I'm so sorry to inform you that you are now stuck with us. BUT I promise I will not be annoying as #4...EVER.

Yes, I'm digging the nickname from Andy: "Johnya" is perfectly cool.

Thanks so much for making our virgin EOC outing so damn fun.

Like Andy, I have a few special notes:

- Gene: I finally got to meet Jesus, and I didn't have to die first.

- Ric: You were every bit of the talented character that everyone warned me about. :P I will always treasure the Miley Cyrus sticker you gave us.

-#4: They make medication for that.

- Alex and Randy: Glad we weren't the only newbies or Disney freaks, and I'm SO stealing the Mickey PJs! And yes, it WAS a 3-Tooth resort rating.

- Trina: We HAVE to get together and compare social stat notes. Pure evilness. And you have the best blog site ever!

- John: AWESOME waffles!

- Kathy: I expect a full book report on the book you got from the white elephant exchange.

- Andy and Melanie: I will never look at another hamburger the same ...ever. And the camp grassfire was awesome, too! :D

- Paul and Lacy: Thank you so much for bringing the pup! It made missing our own dogs more bearable. And I didn't know peeing in a bag could be such pure entertainment!! :D

- To everyone, you are so cool/adorable/funny I could hardly stand it. Don't ever change.

And a special note about the Marlboro-smoking lunch lady: I think I have found my new girlfriend. If I can tear her away from #4 and his paranoid chica.

Other things I will remember: The bear, toads, vultures, sea lion, offroading Es, rolling fog, wet dog, crashings in the forest in the middle of the night, grassfire from Melanie's lunch, rain, E tent city, #4, impromptu concert, pee bags, the goat, creepy toothless employees, the food, white elephant gift exchange (we got the Trailer Trash Barbie - yay!), and making new friends.

Here is a link for a special video I made for you all on our way home:

:lol::evil:

When I got that referral tab, I said, well, I'll just opt out. I went to the camp klamath web site again, to verify that it was the same ****hole we were at.

It just doesn't jive with the pictures on that web site, and the hole in the ground where we camped just couldn't be the same place. Somewhere in the fog rain drenched entry road off 101, we were all transported (x-files style) to another place where they usually send jeep owners.

From the camp klamath web site pictures, I can see how the EOC was 'duped' into thinking it would be the 'place' to go. The only thing I liked was the wi-fi and that sucked 80 percent of the time.

But, back to the fun. Yes, I have a bear tooth hole in my blue cooler. That was before the bear dragged both coolers off the bench and sat happily slurping my jar of grape jam. We didn't know till the last day that the bear has also dragged a bag of cups and bowls into the brush. We found them when we were packing up and wondered where some of the 'stuff' was.
The camp party was a blast. I love all you guys and gals. The smiles go a long way in 'making my day', THANK YOU!
Mrs Bob will get used to you in time.
I do not blame anyone that left early. Those two days of rain were brutal.

It's amazing how Camp Klamath made Death Valley look like such a great place to go in February. I'm in. In everything bad, lessons are to be learned. Candles and propane heater are a 'good' thing. Rain jackets must be included in camping gear. And no matter how crappy the weather, it's the people you're with that count the most.

I'll post some pics in a bit.

As always, thanks to all that helped me with stuff. Yah, I'm big and all that, but I appreciate the assistance.

Ha!

#4 is the name for the a-hole who was also camping there a ways away who crashed our party one night...he was wearing a t-shirt with "4" on it. As Andy said, he was an amazing bi-polar d-bag. Started out friendly and funny...then he busted out the bottle of Jameson and did a neat Sybil impression.

Well it looks like I missed one hell of a party Monday!!

I showed up Tuesday afternoon and found 3 E's and the indifferent goat, although I have to say our little camp fire Tuesday night was fun in its own right, especially after Rambler Dan showed up all the way from New York in a Dodge Caravan. It was kinda funny, he drove up, got out and threw some wood next to the fire, saying it looked as though we could use some more, and Steve said "Well if its free." looking at Dan (who we didn't know yet) like, 'who is this guy'. Then after a minute he told us who he was, and immediately everyone looked at the mini van and then back at Dan as if to say, 'why are you driving a mini van'. Well he flew into CA and rented a car, I guess it makes sense, as it would have taken a lot longer to get there had he actually driven.

And to think, I had just bought a case of good Cali craft beer straight from two different breweries I stopped by on my way to share with everyone, and Dan had some great cigars and a bottle of single malt he was sharing as well, and everyone leaves after the rain. ;-) Oh well, I was assured by Mel and Steve that there would be other, better trips ahead (Death Valley), so I will fear not.

It was good meeting everyone that stuck around (even though I don't blame the rest of you for bugging out, there are much better campgrounds all up and down the coast) and I hope to see more of you in the future!:-)

Just as soon as we figure out how to download 500 pics from our camera we'll have some eye popping photos to share.

Be posting all day today off and on.
Still lots of packing to undo and such.

I thought it was great when we got our Super Geek (John) together with the camp's Super Geek (Don) to hook up a Dish and watched Sunday and Monday Night Football games at the campsite! 8)

So much to talk about!
Stay tuned.

Steve and I are back home. We left Wednesday noonish, and worked our way slowly down the Coast and decided to spend the night in Willits. Stopped for gas at the Costco in Eureka Trina. Not that we were too far from home but we were still in vacation mode and wanted to visit Real Goods in Hopland the next day.

The Klamath rain was intense at the start of the camp but we had a great tent city that was started by Randy,Alex and John. Lots of tarps and twine.

We tried out our new roof top tent (that we got the day before) from Autohomeus.com. If not for that we would have certainly set up our regular tent in the rain. Paul and Lacy were also trying out new sleeping quarters that was very cool. Other folks also were experimenting with new tents.

Like it has been said before in this thread, it is the people that make for a great trip no matter what the weather is.

John and Tonya thanks for the video to the EOC, that was so nice and peaceful!

Josh and Kristen, from the above post I see Kristen's Father passed away, so sad to hear that.

#4 Sorry you are not invited to other camp-outs even with several bottles of Jameson. Even Ric's personality could not balance out 4's waves.

Steve is slowly getting used to camping and says that it is quite obvious why the Element attracts such a diverse cross section of people. "It's a quirky vehicle that fills many rolls not too badly." He was most pleased to finally meet more of the people I have told him about. John (Freeman-E) and him have a similar interest in electronics and was very impressed with all his mods. The group has a real treasure in John. The best quote he heard was "When someone from Southern California sees trees this tall we automatically think it's a cell phone tower."

For the folks who left early you missed seven week old Sophia who had a wild frock of hair and as John Sebastian said at Woodstock, "Wow that kid is really gonna be far out." Steve consumed more micro-brews that evening than the last several months thanks to Rambler Dan and Chris who had information about each brewery. Dan also brought some Newman's Own cookies. Great web site Dan.

We have some cleaning to do, again thank you to everyone.

Hi Everyone!! Finally back into civilization so able to look at all of the posts i have missed. Alex and I are both missing all of you guys like crazy, cant wait until our next camping trip (Death Valley??) Yosemite was amazing, wonderful warm sunny DRY weather :) Have been taking lots of picts, and as soon as i can get alex to download some off his camera i will get them posted. Thanks to everyone for making our first time such a memorable one!!

We made it to Ventura county early this afternoon, spending an evening with the family then on to universal studios and disneyland! Ellie won't know what to do with herself sitting in a parking garage for a week.. especially after all of the abuse she sustained on all of Yosemite's steep rough mountain roads.

Having an amazing time, but can't wait to get home and clean the poor E.. she is driving me nuts!! Again missing you all, special thanks to gene and rochelle for organizing a wonderful camping trip!

P.S. My mother in law has an 08 Element Ex AT (Galaxy Grey Metallic) that ellie gets to play with while we are here :)

Kamp Klamath as a meeting place was a letdown in so many ways and the wet was the least of it. I had to leave after four days because I missed my Lompoc hunnybun with whom I'm sharing a '96 Chardonnay from her Babc o ck winery this moment in anticipation of a Minuteman rocket which will be launched from Vandenberg in the next half hour.

I shall post pictures from Humboldt Myers Flat group campground from Tues aft that was completely empty and open and ridiculously gorgeous. Also from Gualala River campground where I set up that night between giant redwoods that was extraordinary. Camped at Jalama Beach last night with perfect weather. These three places are all 100 times more awesome than K-Klamath, yo.

Our music jam night was the best ever. John is a guitar monster. And you people are fierce singers.

Ric, I looked at the website for Gualala River campground and that looks fantastic! They will stay open for another month, so Steve and I are thinking of camping there before they close down for the "winter". It looks like there is a group camping area, so perhaps this may be fun for a small group to welcome in the Spring for a 3 day weekend. I will organize something if all looks good. This may even be a great location for all of us for a week sometime!

We did make it all the way home yesterday just before noon, happy as clams to have had such a wonderful trip. I can't believe we missed ramblerdan! I'd have tried to reach him once we knew everyone was leaving ... sounds like the few of you enjoyed a campfire and some drinks/smokes, and of course the good company of EOC'ers!

Glad to see all of you again and meet those I hadn't. Kathy had a great time, too, so I guess we held up to all the stories I've told her over the years! As Bob said, the people matter more than the location. We can have fun anywhere!

Thanks again to Gene and Richelle for getting us all together once again! I hope it's not another two years before I see most of you!

Back Home:

Now that I’m back in LA experiencing the hottest temperatures of the summer I’m wishing I was back in the rain at Klamath. (Almost)

Despite all the nice weather for ducks at Klamath, Richelle and I sure had a grand time!

Paul & Lacy:
"Have Propane Flame Thrower Will Travel" - sure hope somebody took some pics of that thing!
You guys rock.
We loved your new camping trailer it’s so cool.
Zoe was our offical camp dog and had the run of the campground and boy does she love the water!
I thought for sure she’d be getting into it with those big Sea Lions down at the river.
Those guys sure were checking us out!
Huge congrats on you’re up-coming new arrival.
This is gonna be one lucky kid to have parents like you guys.
So now we’ll begin a 2nd Generation of Certified EOC Camping Fools and if he or she is anything like the parents…

Ric – My god man this new Underworld CD you gave me is simply marvelous.
Been listening to it constantly and driving all my local friends batty with it.
I love it!
There are few people I can think of who are more enjoyable to spend time with than you.
You put the “RnG” in Rocking Goodtimes!
Richelle and I are blessed to be a friend of yours.
PS: and thanks for that Apple – it was sooooo delicious!
I want to nail down a week end date for a Wine Tour & Campout in Santa Barbara.
It’s looking like either mid October or early November for that.
(jdiane are you reading this? – missing you whole bunches!)
Need to coordinate the dates for the Cachuma Lake/Santa Barbara Wine Tour with John and Tonya too.
Nobody should miss it because it’s gonna be awesome!

I also bagged the last un opened bottle of your 2005 Element Syrah, it’s up on a book shelf next a fine bottle of Mumm Napa Brut Rose (we drank the first bottle of Mumm Napa Brut at our hotel in Reno and I tell ya it was one of the best bottles of champagne I’ve had in ages.
Heck – it’s better or as good as any of the $100 jugs of Dom Perignon I’ve had in the past.
It’s so good in fact that we stopped at Trader Joes on the way home and bagged us another bottle. (At $39 you can’t beat it – it’s simply divine!)

Andy & Mel – oh what fun we had with the two of you!
Andy - thanks for the CAMELBAK bottles!
The aluminum one that has the “Hydrate or Die” logo on it is especially cool.
We loved them all. They are great gifts!
Richelle and I finally got to listen to your Klamath Road Tunes CD Mix on the way back while rolling along side the Smith River on old US 199.
What a stupendous drive that is and a incredibly beautiful water way with rock cliffs and many still water swimming holes to jump into.
IMHO the Smith River is the shiz!
(Your CD started skipping halfway through it’s track list but what songs we did hear were wonderful!)
Mel – when ever you show up at a camping binge I know it’s gonna be special fun.
You just bring it with you girl - where ever you are is where the fun will be.
Was hoping to get some swimming in with you like we did at Tahoe – next trip for sure!
PS:"Swimming in the Desert"
There's a beautiful pool at right next to the Furnace Creek campground in Death Valley - we're scheduling another camping trip there in February.
Hope you guys will make it.

Dylan (Bob & Amy) I loved Amy’s egg rolls – dang were they good!
The dipping sauce was magical. A real surprise and damn delicious. Thank you!
Bob – what can I say? We didn’t catch any fish but we sure looked cool with all our gear.
Sorry about the bear who busted up your cooler at camp.
There were only about 100,000 huge Salmon in that river a few yards away but once that bear got a wiff of Amy’s egg rolls.. fish were no longer on it’s menu!
Next time we all get together we’re going to do something for Amy that’s sure to rid her of her shyness.
Anyone who cooks camp foods like she does deserves special treatment.
Amy is aces in my book!

Continuing…

Alex & Randy - When ever there’s newbees attending one of our camping meets for the first time -
I always try to form an idea in my head of what they will be like when I meet them but it’s always an exercise in futility.
In your case my positive expectations have been exceeded. You guys are two of the sweetest people I’ve ever had the opportunity to meet.
I want to thank you for attending the gig and hope to see a lot more of you in the immediate future.
I’ll hang with ya’ll anytime, anywhere, any place. (except for Kamp Klamath)
Sorry bout the weather and the weird camping digs – but it sure was a blast.
It’s amazing how much fun can be had in lousy weather with supreme human beings.

John & Tonya – Mmmm good is about all I can say about youze guys.
What a delight it was to have you with us!
Ric is right - We had the best music jam ever and what John does with a guitar is equal to what Tonya does with a Cedar Flute and exemplary incense making skills. Thanks for the gift!
John – I still think you should name your band after Lacy’s suggestion.. “The Schit Splinters” LOL!
Great pics and videos of the trip – I love em.
Richelle and I will see you at the Speedway in Irwindale this Saturday and hope to make it to Huntington Beach to see your band and it’s 6’8” lead singer.
Please PM me the date for that show. CYA soon!

John & Marilyn (Dr. Farther’s Gang of Four)
Thank you for breakfast at the Morning Glory in Ashland, Oregon.
The place is so fantastic that we went back for another breakfast on the return trip home.
(this time we stayed at the motel next to the restaurant and it was faboo too!)
We loved your spread in Yreka – what a wonderful place to live!
We explored the region east of Mt. Shasta and that huge big ass beautiful lake.
That’s one humongus mountain!
There’s tons of snow up there on the summit – this time the top wasn’t obscured by clouds and we got ourselves a tantalizing look see.
God is it gorgeous!
We traveled east on Route 88 from Shasta City and drove 200 miles to Susanville on the way to Reno.
The entire route was nothing but huge trees and mountains.
Little road side rest stops with creeks teaming with trout - fantastic country!
It’s no wonder Big Foot’s suppose to live around there – nothing but deep forests for as far as the eyes can see.
We’re seriously considering that area for another summer EOC adventure.
It's too awesome to describe with words and must be seen in person.
Have a yourselves a great cross country jaunt and hope to see you both (And the Corgis) real soon.

Melanie & Steve – loved seeing you guys again. It’s always a thriil.
Richelle and I really dug your new roof top camper set up.
Very kewl indeed!
As I mentioned to you before.. you really should post up photos of the enterior lay out of your Element.
By far it’s one of the best jobs I’ve yet to see for camping friendly inners inside an E.
Steve and I sure had fun watching the football games under the tarps and Ez Ups at Camp E.
Wow was that ever the bomb!
Thanks Freeman_E for wiring the Dish thing up for us. – you da man!
Sorry that we left a day earlier than expected – our air mattress collapsed on us in the middle of the night and we woke up with wicked sore backs.
Spending another night could of put us in traction at the local hospital.

John – Freeman E – Your hearing this first and truer words have never been spoken.
If you’re planning a camping trip John is the man to have in your plans.
As Gregg said, he can make a satellite dish from aluminum foil, paper clips, and bottle caps.
E.T. the Extraterrestrial has nothing on Freeman-E
John can fix anything and he’s very good company too.
Have no fear when John is in da house – if it all falls down he’ll put it back together with bailing wire and old gym socks and it will be better than ever!
Truly a handyman wizard with gargantuan skills.
We so lucky to have him in our crew!
CYA at the Speedway this Saturday?

Junebug – Trina & Kathy:
So good to see you!
It’s been so long that Richelle and I almost forgot what you looked like.

Did you guys have fun?
It was great to have you with us. We so enjoy your company.
I thought poor Kathy was gonna pass out from extended laughing convulsions during the music jam – hope she’s OK now.
We’ll try to keep it down a few notches at the next gathering but don’t count on it.
But wow was it ever fun.
I’m very impressed with your Road Dog worthiness.
You're a real honest to goodness cross country driving minx and I'm proud to know you!
At the next campout perhaps you could show off that Costco tattoo?
But please let’s not make it another two years before we see you again.
Absence indeed makes the heart grow fonder but two years is ridiculous!

The Klamath Kronicles

Our old operating system isn’t compatible with our new Nikon so we can’t download our pics yet but we’re working on it.
Hope to have Windows 7 installed shorty and show the 400 plus pics from our Klamath Camping & Motel Tour of California.

Well Klamath was a wetter than usual experience for us.
We spent two nights during the campout in quaint little seaside motels which were fine despite the rain,
but the two nights that we actually camped out were most incredible.

We had a great time!
Yup the weather sucked for a few days and Kamp Klamath was far from what it was cracked up to be.
I guess from now on we don’t camp anywhere that we haven’t checked out “live” ahead of time.
Kamp Klamath wasn’t the best of camping digs as far as comfort amenities go but I thought the location next to the river-
and being completely surrounded by Redwood National Park was dang nice.
Rain didn’t bother me too much, it was kinda neat to see why those giant Redwoods grow so tall.
Hey - the walk-in Bong Closets at camp were interesting too!
(actually double door refrigerator size, outdoor, glass enclosures where racks of Salmon are smoked.)
Kamp Klamath did have some mighty fine smoked salmon to nosh on.

On the subject of food - do not stop at any roadside or local eating establishments on 101.
We found them all to be overpriced and the food not too good - especially the organic ones.
The best dinner deals we had was at the Indian Gaming Casino Ric took us to.
Very reasonable priced, excellent food and tons of it!
It beat the snot out of anything else in the region.

The camp music jam on Sunday night was phenominal fun!
Even the arrival of our party crashing dweeb number "4" (Chris was his name) was fun.
I knew the guy was a homophobic goober as soon as I saw him but I couldn't care less.
(however - that half empty bottle of Scotch Whiskey he was carrying caught my eye)
So long as the guys having fun and not being an idiot who gives a schit?
But that bottle of Jameson got the better of him.
His parting verbal shot was insulting especially after all the fun we provided him with.
For a second there I thought I was going to have to restrain Mel who looked as though she was about to leap across tables and chairs to rip his lungs out.
Fortunately for him he vacated our area fast and we all had a big laugh at his stupidity.
Jameson's Whiskey or not there's no excuse for being a total dipschit to a party that you're not invited too.
It's funny - he was soooo in awe about how cool we all were then leaves tossing turds of insults.
We should of fed him to the camp goat.

Lots of colorful local people along road between Klamath and Crescent City.
Did anyone else see the guy in the van parked along side the road with the giant sign that said something along the lines of...
"Vietnam Veteran - Can you spare any marijuana?"
Only in California will you see scenes like that.
I wonder if he scored?

Too bad none of our kayak and canoe Camping Fools made the gig because this was primo location for water sports.
They would of had a great time!
I enjoyed that fact that no one bothered us or cramped our style while we were camping.
We were able to make as much of a ruckus at camp as we wanted and nobody cared.

We missed the Trailryders and Rambler Dan’s late arrival as we bugged out late afternoon on Tuesday heading north into Oregon along the Smith River.
We had a wonderful 3 day drive back to LA with another gourmet breakfast at Morning Glory in Ashland.
This time we stayed at the Ashland Motel next door and bopped on over from our room to the café in the morning.
M.G. serves up the best breakfasts that I have ever had! (they are open for breakfast and lunch only)
If you’re fortunate enough to find yourself traveling through Ashland, Oregon it would be very stupid to not stop at Morning Glory to eat.
For the quality of the food the prices there were very good! http://morninggloryrestaurant.com/

Heading back into California from Oregon we descended south on the I-5 to Mount Shasta and that gianormus, beautiful lake.
Truly a magnificent mountain still covered with tons of melting snow.
The surrounding area is hundreds of miles of pristine forests, rambling rivers and fat trout creeks in every direction.
This area is on our list of newly discovered camping locations.
It’s a superb location for a large meet or camping gig of any size.
Even the road side picnic areas had creeks running through them with happy, smiley people catching trout by the dozen.
It was amazing!

Traveling east on 88 we finally made it to Reno and our deluxe digs on the 17th floor of the Atlantis Casino Resort which were most amazing.
As usual we lost money gambling but our room and other aspects of the resort/casino more than compensated.
While there we found ourselves in the middle of Reno’s Annual “Street Vibrations” -
a gathering of 30,000 Harley Davidsons!
The casino had outside parking only and I was concerned about my Diamond Back bicycle getting stolen hanging off the back of Miss Ellie.

continuing..

Miss Ellie & Co.
09-30-2010, 02:17 PM
Klamath Kronikles... continued

The casino told me I could bring my bike up to our room on the 17th floor so long as it wasn’t motorized and if I promised not to ride it down the hallways.
Back in the parking lot I removed my bike from its unsecured position on Miss Ellie’s back and headed to the front entrance of the casino.
There I noticed 20 or so gorgeous Harleys with a collection of crusty mean looking SOBs dressed in the latest Harley fashions milling about their parked putt putts.
Off to the side of the Fat Bobs, Knuckleheads, Low Riders, Sportsters and chromed “6” cylinder Hogs was a tree which looked like a perfect place to lock up my bike.
I asked if it was OK to lock my bike there,
The Harley folks had a chuckle over that but welcomed me anyhow. (Cool people)
I couldn’t have found a safer location for my bike than in the midst of a half million dollars of customized motorcycles.
I parked my bike there for 48 hrs and nobody screwed with it.

We had two days of fun in Reno and headed back on US 395 southbound along side the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevadas.
The weather was perfect.
We passed through Bridgeport and stopped at the Conway Summit View Point overlooking magnificent Mono Lake.
Here there’s a 100 ft. long guard rail that's festooned with bumper stickers and graffiti scrawlings.
We posted this on the guard rail with a red Sharpie… “Junebug – EOC- 867- 5309”
Trina should get a kick out of that - if you’re driving south on 395 stop look for it and add something of your own.

From there we stopped at Tom’s Place (south of Mammoth) and drove 14 miles into the mountains to Rock Creek Lodge where Glenn works.
We found him immediately while on his lunch break and gave him his prize from the Klamath Gag Gift Exchange.
Boy was he thrilled!
Glen will be at Rock Creek until the tail end of October, take a few weeks off and then start his new job at Death Valley the beginning of November.
Glenn say’s hi to all and looks forward to seeing us at the DV Camping Binge in February.

After we parted with Glenn we stopped and had a wicked good pastrami sandwich at Erik Shat’s Danish Bakkery in Bishop.
We bought all sorts of stuff to take home including 3 fresh baked loafs on the best tasting Chili Cheese bread in the know universe.
We couldn’t take photos inside Shatts but we got a bunch outside.
If you’re every in Bishop we highly recommend stopping there to eat – you won’t regret it. http://erickschatsbakery.com/

Hope to see a lot of you guys this Saturday for the Demolition Derby at the Speedway in Irwindale.
This looks like another fun time EOC gathering and Richelle and I are looking forward to it.

I've an excuse as to why i haven't posted any pics yet but I can't vouce for the rest of you.
So Andy, Trina, Freeman_E and Melanie - how bout it?
Are we going to see your pics soon or what?

Hi folks

Just got home from my two-week California vacation. Sorry I missed many of you at Klamath, but I had a nice evening with the small party of die-hards who remained.

The ride up Route 1 was great. On the way back to Salinas I detoured up through Grant's Pass, Ore., then headed south on the 5. What a nice view of Mt. Shasta on that route!

The Chrysler Town & Country minivan is sweet to drive and has plenty room to sleep in, but is by no means as easy to park and maneuver as the Element. And those electric doors are just future headaches, IMO.

Cheers.

I hope to have my pics up this week. We've been super busy since returning from the mudhole in Klamath and haven't even touched my computer at home.

Also, if anyone was still interested in my "transform" vinyl, send me a PM and I'll get you the contact info for my co-worker so you can order what you need.

I also had him cut me a new sticker and if you like it, you could add it to your order... pics of both below.

Mount Shasta is Kewl!!!

So I just got home today from a loooong roadtrip. Spent 5 weeks in New Mexico taking photos at all of their State Parks. Then I spent the last 9 nights at Rock Creek Lake Resort taking photos of their cabins and surroundings for their new website. And yes, Glen was there. They closed the Resort yesterday and Glen will start working at Furnace Creek on 11/2.

I arrived there last Monday. And brought the snow.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l223/wgwood/Camping%202007/Snowbound.jpg

The temp had been in the 70's.

Ha!

That is Glen's RV in the background, the trailer I stayed in, and my Element in the, er, elements.

Doesn't sound like the Klamath trip went too well, but the DV trip next year should be great.

I hope all the fools show up. (That means you too, Gene and Richelle)

Anyway, I will throw a few pics from my trip here, cuz I don't really post anywhere else on the EOC anymore.

Regards,
Greg

And yes, John can make a satellite dish from tinfoil, shrubbery, and a discarded AA battery.

Greg - nice pics.
SNOW ALREADY!
We shot some too when we stopped by Rock Creek to give Glenn his prize from the Klamath gag gift exchange.
The leaves in the trees were turning to a vibrant yellow-orange. It was very beautiful.
You'll see um as soon as we figure out how to post em.

The Klamath trip was a friikin blast even with the wet weather.
I'd do it all over again in a heart beat!

We'll make it to DV this year.
Richelle had a nasty flu last year. :-(
She's getting Flu shot this week end.
Hopefully it will keep her from catching another bug.

PS: You better show up too!

Can you again tell me where you got the parts? You told me at camp, but I forgot. Thanks,
Dylan (Bob)

We'd love to come to DV, but Lacy will be fairly pregnant at that point and more than likely, uncomfortable... even in our new lavish trailer. So knock one back for us and we'll pray you guys don't float away like they did the last DV campout.

On a side note, the next time we see DV, it'll probably be flatout across the playa in one of these... we'll see though, negotiations are still taking place. 8)http://thespeedzine.danielvining.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/FordRaptor2.jpg

Everything is going great Gene! We just had a "tummy check" and listened to the heartbeat briefly, the sucker was doin' the backstroke in there and we had a heckuva time chasing it down.... I told lacy not to have that early morning sugar. Other than a couple weeks ago, when Lacy NEEDED a handmade vanilla milkshake, she really hasn't had any funky cravings. Give it a couple more months and I'm sure I'll be making some late night/early morning runs for peanut butter and cottage cheese... or something crazy like that.

Our next appointment is the 15th and hopefully we'll find out what we'll be having... but there's a bit of a "process" before we'll know. Lemme explain.
Our plan is to have the Sonographer find out for us, but not tell us. We wont even look at the screen. He/she, will then write down the gender and put it in an envelope. We'll then take said envelope to our favorite baker and have them bake a cake, of which the filling will be appropriately pink or blue based on the contents of the envelope (and lacy). The cake will then be decorated in a plain fashion, not revealing the surprise inside. Come Christmas day, when the whole family is together, we'll then cut the cake and find out together!

So keep your fingers crossed that the cake isn't green or something...

What a cool idea and the Best Christmas surprise ever!
Maybe the cake will be pink and blue if you have twins in there.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving,
Love you guys

Thanks Marilyn... but no twins in there!

We've already verified only ONE healthy baby in there awhile back, I got pics and video of the ultrasound screen, but it was too early to tell the gender.

But twins aren't out of the question for the next go-round... twins run in our families and with our luck we'd end up with quads or something...

WTG Paul and Lacy!
A great way to introduce an impending arrival to the entire fam-damly!
Very creative and festive.
What a wonderful Christmas idea. :-)

Nice truck too.
Thinking of getting something bigger myself in the near future. Gotta be a truck, have Four Wheel Drive, a V8, and capable of towing a house.
Hasta be used of course, should find some really good used rigs here in SoCal.

Still keeping the E though - never be without one - plus she's paid off!

Tsunami sweeps 5 to sea, rips out Calif. docks

Crescent City, Calif. (AP) -- A tsunami swept at least five people watching the waves out to sea Friday and ripped docks out of harbors in California, spreading the destruction of a devastating Japanese earthquake to the shores of the United States. Four people were rescued from the water in Oregon, but one man who was taking photos in Northern California was still missing Friday afternoon. Coast Guard helicopters searched for him near the mouth of the Klamath River in Del Norte County, Calif., after his two friends made it back to shore.

Egads! That's exactly where we were last summer - right at "the mouth of the Klamath" Paul, Lacy, Mel and Andy were all hanging out right on the beach where the river dumps into the ocean.

Last night at 11:00 PM I was about to go to bed and switched the TV to CNN to check the latest going ons in the world and they were broadcasting a live feed out of Japan. The quake had happened about an hour earlier. I was watching wave after wave of sunamis rolling in off the ocean on to shore. Real time (aireal footage) and it blew me off the couch! Never seen anything like it. Watched it till I feel asleep around 2:00 AM.

WOW!

Holy crap! I remember everyone wading into the water there where the Klammath river meets the ocean on that trip; there was even a sea lion that came up and checked us out.
