Kamp Klamath looks amazing! Grassy campsites are a nice treat that we've only just experienced when we camped in Oregon.

Losing the group camp option is truly sad, but if the venue suits us crazy campers, it'll be a rip-roarin' time for sure!

Me thinks so too!
We should give Kamp Klamath some serious consideration.
It looks like a great place for a week of camping.

* The camp looks very lovely and the location is tremendous.
* It has all the comfort ammenities we want incuding free hot showers - unlike Humboldt Redwoods where we had to drive 5.5 miles for pay showers.
* It sits on 33 acres of land all of which is surrounded by Redwood Parks and close to the giamongus (inland) Smith River Recreation Area.
* They have BBQ Salmon and Chicken dinners every Saturday night, followed by a Bon Fire and live Jam-in-Jamb for our banjo players and percussionists. (Djembe and Doc Farther should like that)
* The tent camping area is beautiful.
* Kamp Klamath has direct access to a 1/4 mile stretch of the Klamath River, great for fishing, kayaking, canoing, tubing and swimming.
* Some nice bike trails.
* Miles and miles of Pacific black sand beaches, lagoons and estuaries.
* The tallest of the giant coast Redwood Trees are here.
* Roosevelt Elk herds and critters galore.
* There's coastal rock climbing for Obi and Box4Rox.
* The ocean is close enough to hear the surf and barking sea lions
* There are sand dunes
* Several Indian Gambling Casinos are in the area
* It's very Dog Friendly too! - How can you not like a campground that encourages dogs to bring thier owners along?

And the Tsunami Bowling Center is located in a nearby town too.

Everyone should check out the link for this place - your opinions are requested.

A few hours ago I sent an E-mail inquiry to Kamp Klamath.
I told them about our club, our E's, our members, and asked if they could accomadate 20 Elements, upwards of 30 wonderful people, a small kennel club of dogs, a few musicians, two or three Tear Drop trailers and Junebug.

I just recieved a call back from Aaron the owner of Kamp Klamath who's was sitting in his motor home somewhere along the Oregon coast in a rain storm. He checked his e-mail found my inquiry and called me immediately.

Whoa!
Kamp Klamath would be thrilled to have us!
AAA rates it as the top private campground in the North Coast and Redwoods National Park recommends it to tent campers when thier campgrounds are full during the mid summer tourist blooms.

I guess one of the key people at Kamp Klamath owns an Element and thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread! (gotta love a guy like that)
Aaron says this employee (whos also a musician) will be freaking out with excitement should we decide to stay here.

Not only that but Aaron informs me that they've recently gone into the tenting area of the camp with a Back Hoe, machete's, wood and bush clearing equipment and spruced the place up a few more notches.
They are also adding new water system to the tent area.
It should be completed by Spring and people who've seen what they're doing to it already want to camp there.

Aaron assures me that not only can they accomadate us, our E's, our dogs and all else we might bring along but we can pretty much have the tent area to ourselves.
He informs me that it's far enough way from other campers in the RV section that we can make as make as much noise as we want and not bother anyone.
He's also putting in a huge fire pit for group gatherings in the tent section of the park.

They love our dogs too!
This is a large acreage and in the back section of the tenting area dogs can run free, jump in the water, swim and climb trees.

They are also opening a new cafe at the campground which is still being built and will be ready by summer.

Aaron told me about the Saturday Night "all you can eat" Salmon and Chicken BBQ - the salmon is fresh caught right from the river and served at the BBQ the same day.
They have a few musicans as employees and they would be stoked to jam with us during the week as well as during the Saturday Night Jam-in Jambs.

Dang this sure sounds cool.
A place that loves Elements and will treat us like royalty.

Currently no one has reserved any of the campsites in the tent area for our projected dates so it remains wide open to us.

Please share your thoughts about this place and whether or not you think it's suitable for us.

The pictures of the sites sure are nice ... and I do remember Paul appreciating the grass in Oregon! :)

The one slight concern I had was the quiet hours at Klamath (10 pm during the week), but it sounds like that has been handled with their offer of pretty much letting the group take over the tent area.

I didn't look over the website too thoroughly, so the only other question I have is the cost? Honestly, if there's a way I can swing it, the actual dollars are unlikely to be the deciding factor, but that's the only other question I have right now!

Let's do it. It sounds like a great place for us to set up our Base of Operations and we can wander out and explore a different Forest, River, Ocean, Beach and Community.

It actually sounds better than our 1st choice and the way our State Gov't is going bankrupt we shouldn't depend on any State Parks being open.

Is there a Costco, In-n-out & Starbucks nearby ?

Okay, I looked more at the rates. Looks like $20 for two people per night max, and it says weekly rates available. Works for me!

Jet, if I pull this off, I'll try to hit the In N Out in Redding on the way!

Trina - you beat me to it!
Quiet hours in the campground are 12:00 AM on Saturdays.
Aaron assures us we won't be a bother to anyone during our stay no matter what night it is.

Campsite fees are $20 a night.
For 7 nights that comes $140 (about the same price for one night at a good motel)
State Park and National Park campsite fees are $35 and $28 with lots of rules and restrictions to cramp our style.

Of couse I'll find out about doubling up in the campsites at Kamp Klamath - some of the sites are large enough for 3-4 vehicles and see if we can get a group discount too.

Dave I agree - this sounds like the place we should be hammering our tent stakes at.
I'd like to get a few more OK's on Kamp Klamath from some of the other camping fools over the week end.
But I can see no negatives in camping here at all.
Plus they want us! (how sweet is that?)

Aaron (the owner) is great and very cool to talk with - I'm confident that we'll have a wonderful time camping here!

Junebug (moderator extrodinaire ) will be changing the thread title from Humboldt Redwoods State Park to our new location.
We can also change the name of the venue from the West Coast National Meet to something more apropo.

Got any ideas?

Miss Ellie & Co.

It's about to be offical.
Humboldt Redwoods State Park will no longer be the location of this meet.
This is due to a variety of factors not the least of which is the possibility of more closures in the State Park system.

Instead we are moving the meet 50 miles north to another, even more awesome, giant Coast Redwood enviornment.
We will be penciling in Kamp Klamath on the banks of the Klamath River in Klamath, California as the new venue location for the meet.

Kamp Klamath comes highly recommended.
This is a 33 acre private campground that offers a far more comfortable camping enviornment with direct access to exceptional forest, river and ocean recreational opportunities.
This is the place to be!

We'll begin making arrangements with Kamp Klamath tomorrow to set things up.
Details and reservation contact information will be announced soon after.

A new thread title page will reflect this change:

LOL!

Junebug will be re-editing the first page of the thread to reflect the changes. :cheerleader:
And yes, a brand new crazy Poll will be included.

I sent an e-mail to Aaron at Kamp Klamath a few minutes ago and once I hear back from him we'll get this thing finalized and locked down.

I anticipate having everything completed later this week.
All people will need to do is make their reservations and wait 10 months for the meet.

Okeey Doke!

I just got off the phone with Kamp Klamath.
Aaron (the owner) is out on a 2 day "Fun Bus Tour" (I have no idea what that is but I bet it's interesting)

Instead I spoke with Douglas who informs me that Aaron will be back tomorrow afternoon and will speak with me then.

In the interm Douglas as blocked us in for the following dates September 17 - 27.
Once I hear back from Aaron we'll set up the reservation contact process.
We'll be identified as the Element Owners Club and it should be a sweet, easy uncomplicated process.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Somewhere near to where we'll be camping is "Hyperion" is the worlds tallest living thing.
This giant Coast Redwood tree was discovered on October 1st 2006.
It's 379.1 feet tall and still growing!
The exact location of Hyperion is kept secret to keep visitors away.
But you can see the discovery of this tree in the following National Geographic videos which are simply amazing!

Jet - We're just making changes to the first page. (check it out)

Not yet sure if we can get the new crazy Poll selections onto the first page of the thread.
Junebug’s attempting to do it but it might not be possible.
But here’s what it would of said…

Oh hell ya - just try stopping me!

If I’m not busy with laundry and housework I’ll go too.

I'll go if we can group grope a few of these giamonsterous Redwood trees.

OK but those barking Sea Lions, and rascal river otters better not steal my stuff.

Bigfoot is said to hang out around there – I’d like to get an autograph.

Will there be lots of papparazi? I need to know what I should wear.

I’m all over this like white on rice - but we must sing the Monty Python Lumberjack song everyday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zey8567bcg

“Crikey” – I’ll go too mate, so how big are the crocks in this river?

Skunks the size of wheel barrels live there – I’ll bring my dog.

Only if the Fabulous Fish Brothers go – I need some fishing lessons!

Hope that you all had as nice a Thanksgiving Holiday as I had.
But now it’s time for you to wake from your triptophane comas and get your derrieres in gear for our 2010 West Coast National Meet.
It will be held in Northern California in the heart of the giant Coast Redwoods, at (in the opinion of many) the best private campground on the North Coast...
Kamp Klamath
33 acres of lush open space, near to the ocean with a ¼ mile of shoreline on the Klamath River. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klamath_River (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klamath_River)

This is gonna be an absolutely extraordinary event and everyone is invited to attend it.
You'll have plenty of time to plan and make preperations for this - it's 10 months away.
But you'll need to book your reservations ASAP to avoid a probable "first of the year" price increase.

Aaron (owner) of Kamp Klamath is going to extraordinary lengths to insure that our stay there will be first rate.

When making your reservations be sure to pencil yourself in for this.

Every Saturday night, Kamp Klamath has an "all you can eat" Salmon & Chicken BBQ Dinner.
Fish at this BBQ are so fresh they need "anger management" - caught directly from the river and served the same day.

Along with the BBQ chicken and salmon this feed includes, fresh green salad, stir fry vegetables and rice pilaf.
An after dinner a bon fire and group hootenany (Jam in Jamb) continues the festivities well into the evening. :detective:

The Salmon & Chicken BBQ is highly recommended.
Reserve yourself a plate at the big feast!
$9.50 per person
mmmmmm good!

Information to share regarding this.

Both Redwood National Park and California State Parks raised thier fees last August to $35 per night not including a $7.00 processing and cancellation fees.

After the first of the year these fees are probably going to be raised again.
Some State Parks are subject to closures and/or other restrictions (without warning) which is why we've gone ahead and selected Kamp Klamath (a superb private campground) for the 2010 West Coast National Meet.

Kamp Klamath is currently at $30 per night but they may have a bump in their fees after January 1, 2010.
Please be adivised of that and try to make your reservations prior to January 1, 2010.

Kamp Klamath is still the best deal in the Redwoods neighborhood and unlike the National Park and State Parks, you're getting a whole lot more bang for your buck, better ammenties, privacy, spaceousness, river access, on site store, showers and a whole lot more than whats being offered at the National and State Parks at higher fees.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I'm hoping that I didn’t make this too easy for ya’ll.

Last night I received a phone call from Aaron Funk the owner of Kamp Klamath.
He was wondering when we would begin making our reservations as he has agreed to set aside 26 individual campsites for us there.

I explained to him that we already have 12 Elements on board and many others still making arrangements with employers for vacation time and what not.
I convayed to him that I didn’t expect to see a lot of campsite reservation activity until after the Holidays with things developing in earnest after the first of the year.
Aaron say's that he understands completely but I could still detect a wee bit of concern in his voice.

I realize that we’re all making by as best we can these days and around the Christmas Holidays things are financially tight for many of us.
However if anyone intending to do this camping trip (it would be stupid to miss it) that has the financial where-with-all to do so – please go ahead and make your reservation now.

It will greatly assist in keeping our honorable host (Aaron Funk) at Kamp Klamath at ease and not worry bout holding the bag on a bunch of empty campsites.

Bear in mind this is an extremely popular campground.
32 sites have already been booked (fortunately not on our selected dates) by group of Oregon doctors touring on motorcycles.
Don’t forget – your campsite reservations are 100% refundable up until 30 days prior to the reservation date.

You’ve absolutely nothing loose in making your campsite reservations now instead of later.
Or as soon as practicle.

Please let me know if you've any questions.

Thanks

LOL! yeah - I know what you mean.

I think we'll be OK and I don't expect any large groups wanting those 26 sites on our selected dates either.

Richelle and I are going to try and get our reservations in by Christmas.
Once we get a few more in besides us that should be sufficient enough for Kamp Klamath to feel that they haven't set campsites aside for some phantom car club of no-shows. :-)

I hear ya Dave,

I think the instigators of this bash should reserve about 20 sites now to get in good graces with the staff. I've seen their digs in West LA. They could just sell one (1) of their Picasso's and buy the campground. Or Gene could just rent out his Enzo for a weekend. That would do it. Or was that that the one that crashed on PCH a while back? If it was I hope you had insurance.

The website for KK is still showing $20 per nite for 2. Gene, is this correct or have they just not updated the site? I have camped here twice and the river at this location is perfect for canoeing and kayaking. There is a chance of an early fall run of salmon as well, but the fishery might be closed due to low returning fish. We will know more about that as the time nears. Dave, a 50 pound chinook will just about tow your yak anywhere it wants to.

So Gene, go ahead and pay for Dave's and my spot when you get yours. We will obviously give you 30 day's notice if we cannot make it.

Thanks,
Greg

I'm good at instigating these things and if there's a problem I'm good at resloving them. Just let me know what it is.
The Picassos are priceless and not for sale even though they are counterfit. Same for the Enzo which is stripped and still on blocks in the alley behind my house - I may turn it into a giant terrarium.
However - you might interested in Rod Stewart's 2005 Ferrari 575M Maranello SuperAmerica.
It's on the auction block and I'm sure you could make Rod a good offer.
His A-Hole kids are robbing him blind and he needs the money.

KK's rates have gone from $20 -$30.
Aaron tells me he'll have a new website up by the first of the year and it will reflect the new $30 campsite fees for 2010.

Dave - Greg is correct about the Salmon fishing.
The fish at Kamp Klamath are so big they'll tow you and your kayak to Hawaii. (world famous Steelhead fishing here!)
Aaron says bring Salt Water Rods & Reels and nothing under a 20 pound line.
I'm surpised to hear that you've camped here before.
Did you particpate in the Saturday Night Salmon & Chicken BBQ and the after dinner hootenany's?
Is there any place that you haven't camped at?

Yes - Glenn's a nut! (which is why Richelle and I love him)
Make sure you purchase the book 100 Worst Small Towns in America.

Is there any place that you haven't camped at?

Gene,

As the Man in Black said, "I've been everywhere, man, I've been everywhere".

I grew up in West Vancouver, BC and moved down to SoCal in 1977 when I was 15. I have probably driven from SoCal to BC 20 times, and as far as Eureka maybe 20 more.

I have driven across the country 4 times, (8 if you count the return trip), and have taken the E to Mississippi and back in 2004. The other vehicles used were a 72 Westphalia, a 1969 Westphalia, and a 1968 International Scout. Funny thing was is that they never broke down! Didn't drive on interstates, only on blue highways.

Oh, and that doesn't count the 4200 miles this summer doing the Socal, Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon loop.

One of the most memorable was in January 1981 when a buddy and me took the 72 Westy from SoCal up to Whistler, BC to go skiing. It was sunny the whole way up. We got to a friends cabin, slept, and awoke to 2 feet of fresh powder. After skiing for a week, we were trying to figure out where to go next. We called all our buddies late one night, and the only one that answered was in St. Pete Florida. So, yeah, we basically drove a diagonal across the USA. We did get strange looks due to the fact we had skis on the roof cruising around town down there. 8)

I did one of those rv maps where you enter every state you have been in and it fills them in in color. (clicky (http://www.epgsoft.com/VisitedStatesMap/)) I think the only ones I have missing in mine in the lower 48 are Maine and Vermont.

So to answer you question, I have camped in 46 states and 3 provinces. Also Hawaii, if camping is defined by sleeping outside. ;-) And I am just getting started!!!

Sorry for the hijack, but the Grand PooBah did ask.

Regards,
Greg

I'm so ready for this trip that I made reservations today. (I even got a confimation #). Spoke with Lori in the office and after haggling about the price (normal price is $30 a day) I paid $20 a day for the 7 days and $11 for 2 @ the "All you can eat" Supper.

She seemed nervous that nobody had reserved a site and was glad when I assured her that others would be calling soon.

Yeah Jet!

I'm so happy you did that.
I know they were getting a bit antsy at Kamp Klamath waiting for someone in our crew to make a reservation.
Richelle and I will be making ours next week.
We'll have the extra cash to do that then.

I can hardly contain myself. I'm so excited about this trip too!
It has all the essentails for our best camping trip ever.
Anyone who can go and chooses not to is brain damaged!

PS: I spoke with our man in Death Valley "Glenn" earlier today.
He called me from Las Vegas where he's purchasing some items to decorate a float that's gonna be in some kind of Holiday Parade they have at Death Valley every year.
He wants to know if there's a website or info on how to make a Bar Graph that he can attach to his Small Town USA thread.
I couldn't help him on that - maybe you can.

Way cool Paul, Lacy and Zoe!

Glad you're working with Andy & Melanie to finalize thier dates.
Looks like all the cool kids will be there!

You'll get to meet E-Biker (Todd & Betsy from up high in Utah) they were with us at the Yellowstone Camping trip.
Good peeps - tons o fun!

A very impressive cast of characters attending this gig...

Djembe's on board (that boy's way over due with the crew)
Sooooo looking forward to seeing him again.

Heck - Box4Rox and Obi are threatening to go as well.
Junebug's gonna try. (we need scones!)

We must have (kayak freaks) Karaoke Massage (Mark, Lynn and Madison the dog) in the house.
I want more of Lynn's magical Orange Sour Cream Pancakes.
I'll give those guys a PM prod - in fact I'll PM everyone who was with us at Lake Tahoe last summer.
Nobody should miss this!

There will be Tear Drops and Elements galore, happy goofy dogs, kayaks and canoes, bikes and kites, great foods and booze, the river and ocean and the tallest trees in the world!

This will be a fabulously good time for all of us.
We deserve it!

Miss Ellie & Co.

Speaking of Tear Drops...

I almost forgot about this.
Aaron told me he's going to run an electrical line into the tent area so those of us with Tear Drops will have electricity. :028:

He's also going to dump a Andy Gump in the tent area so we won't need to truck it to restrooms.
(Just in case someone needs to tend to some fast business!):jump021:

Dog Friendly Beaches: :odie:

There seems to be a few of them.
Gold Bluff Beach look's awesome as you can see in the video.
It's about 10 miles down the coast from our campground.
The location is Prairie Creek Redwood State Park where the beach is accessed by a narrow 7 mile dirt road.
The water is too rough and cold to swim here but it's great for dogs, kite flying, beach combing and maybe some off -road beach crusing too.

At the end of the Gold Bluff Beach Road is Fern Canyon.
A hiking trail follows the canyon with ferns covering the 10-15m sheer walls of the canyon giving it a prehistoric feel.
This led to it being used as a location for "Lost World - Jurassic Park" and BBC's "Walking with Dinosaurs"
No dogs allowed on the trail so you'll have to leave them with friends at the beach if you want to do this hike.

Spoke with Aaron Funk the owner and our host.
Here is the complete, definitive and current campsite fees for Kamp Klamath.

Please bear in mind this is a top rated AAA approved private campground in a great location with a tremendous amount of space and long list of comfort ammenties that you will not find in any of the National or State Parks in the area.
All of whom will be rasising thier fees to $35 per night after the first of the year.

Some of us have been haggeling and trying to work the front desk at Kamp Klamath and get them to stay with the 2009 rate of $20 per night.
That ain't gonna happen.

The best deal we can get is $25 per night and its applicable only if you book your reservations prior to the first of the year.
After that rates will go to $30 per night.
Here's our finalized campsite fees.

Before January 1, 2010 = $25 per night

After January 1, 2010 = $30 per night

Try to make your reservations before Jan 1 to recieve the $25 per night deal.
.
When making your reservations please understand that you are not negotiating a car loan or a film deal.
The campsite rates are what they are and they will stay that way.

PS: Please let me know if you have any questions.

Here's a very recent video shot on 02-10-10 cruising south down Highway 101 from Crescent City to Eureka:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQXeGFDGOHU

At 2:50 in the video you get a quick glimpse of the Klamath River (it's big!) and the exit to Klamath Beach Road.
Our campground (Kamp Klamath) is a few miles down that road and very close to the ocean.
The video gives you a good perspective of the area and a glimpse of what you can expect to see.

Besides gianormus trees, rivers and ocean...
the region has many dairy farms with happy cows that provide the best cheeses and dairy products anywhere.
I'm stiil trying but I haven't been able to find any photos or videos of Kamp Klamath other than whats posted on thier website.
I know it will be beautiful. I'm just so eager to see it!

Not much between Crescent City and Eureka which are the two largest towns north and south from where we'll be camped.
All provisions and such can be had there.

The entrance to Prairee Creek Redwoods State Park comes into view at 5:44 big trees are everywhere!

Gene, just knock it off. You are making it way too hard to ignore this thread any longer.
Now I'm going to have to bring this trip up with Kristen. You know me and camping; just like oil and vinegar. LOL
BTW- I'm eating one of the last 2 double chocolate espresso brownies from DV. Forgot I threw them in the freezer.

LOL !
Josh - Sorry, but I can't help myself...
and I still have another 2,000 reasons to post.

Klamath has all the necessary ingrediants and could easily be our best camping trip yet!
Work with Kristen on this. She will love it.

James - you have no idea what you're getting yourself into.
The fun factor for this trip is far beyond anything you've experienced with us on previous 2 and 3 day camping trips.

Prepare for something completely different.
You''re gonna have such an unbelievably good time that you will not want to go home. (I'm not kidding!)

PS: Big caravan from SoCal to NorCal (2 days with an over night stop over or a 12 hour, kidney pressing, dead-ass kamakazi drive straight through.
We opt for the 2 day drive-up and the straight shot, 12 hr. kamakazi drive-back.

Still lots of planning ahead.

Hey Todd - you going to bring your bike?

Try and stop me!:-D I am only doing the backcountry ski thing to stay in shape for MTB season here! Sorry about the delay-slow response-general absence from the boards, I have just been spending a TON of time outdoors this winter! Nice change from the cabin fever from previous winters. We are looking forward to the adventure of this trip. This will be our full vacation for the year, even skipping the family reunion for this trip. Looking forward to it!!!

Todd - Richelle and I are sooooo excited that you and Miss Betsy will be making the journey from Utah to the Redwoods!
It will be two years since we last saw you guys and we can hardly wait to see you again. :-D

Now you'll be able to meet the rest of the Camping Fools!
Only a third of us where there at Yellowstone back in 2008 when we last saw you and Betsy -
now you're gonna meet the entire crew and oh what a crew it is! :jump021:

PS: Before you leave Utah maybe you could stop by your mom's house again and ask for another bag of her garden fresh mint leaves. ;-)

PPS: Is it possible to flash freeze raspberry shakes?
(The ones you introduced us to at La Beau's Drive-In at Bear Lake)
I fell in love with them!

Did you know that La Beau's raspberry shakes have been written up in the New York Times Travel Section?

For the hard core enthusiasts who seek the solitude and dramatic beauty of the wilderness experience,
The King Range and The Lost Coast is your ticket.
This location is about 50 miles south of Klamath and consists of 35 miles of continuous, protected, undeveloped, wilderness coastline and inland Douglas-fir forests.

A special treat for Mountain Bikers is the "Paradise Royal Mountain Bike Trail".
This is a fairly new MB Trail that was dedicated on National Public Lands Day, September 27, 2008
The NPLD celebration was to recognize all the groups and individuals who contributed 4,000 volunteer hours to build the 14 mile loop.
Maps of Paradise Royal MB Trail are found in the link below along with a multitude of information from Mushroom Collecting permits to hiking trails.

James - you can have as many tents at your site as you want.
But no more than one vehicle per campsite excluding trailers.

We won't be able to double-up with "two vehicles" per site.

PS: I'll call Aaron at the campground on this over the week end and make sure that this info is correct.
I'm pretty sure it is but it's always good to reconfirm.

GOT FISH?

Northern Calfornia's Redwood Coast Fishing http://redwoods.info/showrecord.asp?id=3060

Good info incudes river fishing and there are lotza rivers to fish in the area...
The Klamath, Smith, Van Duzen, Trinity, Eel, Mad, and more.

The last time we were in this part of the world Slosport, Djembe, Richelle and I found a swimming hole on the Van Duzen River called "Swimmer's Delight"...
It was a really sweet place - the river was like holy water, there was a Tarzan swing, picnic area and small campground.
We were the only people there!

***********************

THE KLAMATH
The Klamath River is the largest of the North Coast Rivers of California stretching over 200 miles from it's mouth to the Oregon border.
The fish of the Klamath are King and Silver salmon, Steelhead and resident Trout.
The King's start running in July with the best action near the mouth coming in August and running through September.
Summer/Fall Steelhead start running from late summer through October.

"Swimmer's Delight " ~ Van Duzen River
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nwJpZ8jdn0&feature=related

Swimmer's Delight is a swimming hole on the Van Duzen River at Van Duzen County Park.
Friendly locals told us about this terrific spot when we were at Humboldt Redwoods back in 2007.
Slosport, Djembe, Richelle and I visited it during the week after Labor Day and the place was completely empty and void of people.

The Pacific Ocean is cold, dangerous and beautiful.
It's great for tasty fish, tide-pooling and big surf but unless you're a skilled surfer in a wet suit it ain't no place to swim in.
If swimming is your thing there are six beautiful rivers in the immediate area that provide 100's of excellent swimming opportunities.
Some are easy to find and near highways and others are accessed by driving miles into the forest on service roads.

Unless you live in these parts it takes a little scouting around to find the best spots but once you do the rewards are well worth it.

This simply has to be one of the most amazing ocean kayaking locations in California!
If you're bringing a kayak along on for this camping trip there's a tremendous amount of options available to you...
rivers, lagoons, lakes and ocean.

Paddling around the sea stacks, rocks, sea caves, blow holes, islands, seals, otters, birds of Trinidad is second to none.

Heck - there are hundreds of species of sharks in the water at any given time and they know you've entered the water as soon as you step foot in it.
Kayakers are probably checked out by sharks whenever they go paddleing in the ocean and never know it.
A kayaker may not see a shark but doesn't mean the shark doesn't see the kayaker.

If sharks hunted humans they'de be hundreds of attacks per day and equal fatalities.
So long as you don't slather yourself in bacon fat and drag an all torn up, decomposing seal carcass behind your kayak I think you should be OK.

There's alway the local rivers, estuaries and lagoons but then you'll have to watch out for stealthy Pacific crocs and indigenous river monsters.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before or not..

Aaron the owner of Kamp Klamath is going to run an electrical line into our area of the tent campground so those of us with small Tent Trailers and Tear Drops will have electricity.

This way all the Tear Drop folks and all the Tenters will all be able to stay together and not be flung out all over the place.

Aaron didn't have to do that for us but he did and I didn't ask him either - it was his idea. 8)
This is going to be one heck of a great campout!

PS: Box4Rox and Obi the Wonderdog are seriously trying to make it to the gig all the way from thier corn field in the Midwest (Illinois)

Gene,

I hope you show up for this one, it will be great. You need to edit your sig and take 2010 off the DV campouts.:-(

I am once again donning my pro-camper cap and will be leaving on a month long trip on 4/13 to take campsite photos, this time in Utah and AZ. The route looks like this:

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l223/wgwood/SpringTrip.jpg

I have over 40 campgrounds mapped out using google earth to get the exact gps numbers.

The State Parks in Utah I will visit are:

Green River
Goblin Valley
Escalante
Kodachrome Basin
Snow Canyon
Gunlock
Quail Creek
Sand Hollow

There are also 7 Forest Service campgrounds and about 15 BLM campgrounds. Most of the BLM one's are on the Colorado River near Moab.

In Arizona, there are 2 main areas that I will be targeting. Near Springerville is a recreation area called Big Lake. There are 6 campgrounds there that offer some of the best trout fishing in the state. They are very popular.

The second area is the Mogollon Rim area, which follows highway 260 from Show Low to Payson. It is an amazingly beautiful area that is the number one destination for Phoenix and Tucson residents in the summer. There are about 15 Forest Service campgrounds along this road.

I will not be hitting any of the National Park campgrounds in Utah for campground pics, as I got in a little trouble last year in the NP's when they labelled me as a commercial visitor, but I will still visit them.

Back on topic, I plan on attending this shing-ding-aling in the fall if everything works out. I look forward to being dragged upriver in my canoe by a 40LB Tyee. (That's Canadian talk, google it).

Oh, and regarding your sig yet again Gene, I vote you for "Mouth of the Klamath":-)

electricity for the trailer people? No no no, we need electricity for the big screen TV, Gene's hair drier, and the smoke machines/lasers/stobe lights for the rave....

Hey all, I did the research on Accordguy03 as you requested, and I'll say they are cleared to join us on this trip. ;-)

Just kidding ... Randy and Alex came out for a local meet today, and they're cool guys - definitely looking forward to them joining up with us in Klamath!

Junebug - that's very good news!
I'm guessing that Randy and Alex scored high marks on the Rorschach Wierdo test for you to clear them to join us so quickly.

They'll fit right in with the rest of our crew.
I'm looking forward to meeting them too.

I have to agree with Imperience on this.
Good looking out!

Roughing it is one thing - but I'm not cool with hanging upside down on a tree limb like Fruit Bat trying to get my hair to dry.

Glad we passed the test!! Looking forward to going as well... cant wait til September!

Not so fast Randy and Alex...

You guys still need to have a camp chore assigned to you.
All of us will have at least one.

That being said, I'm going to nominate you as our offical "Costco Runner"
An easy chore - you'll be in charge of driving back and forth to the nearest Costco (64 miles away) to pick up provisions and such.

If you don't have a Costco membership card you might want to consider getting one. ;-)

DANG! No Pizza deliveries in Klamath – sorry Greg.

When you travel this far out into the world you won’t find much in the way of Pizza or other near edible food establishments.

I found 4 local eateries in Klamath tiny town and all of them had tepid to scathing reviews.
This means that all good food will be localized to our campground and we’ll be making it.
Thank goodness that we have great camp cooks because they’re talents will be challenged to even higher levels than usual.

The nearest good restaurants and well stocked grocery stores are in Eureka some 60 miles away.
So bear that in mind and bring all your culinary gizmos and recipes with you.
And then be prepared to make it all from scratch.

One thing we shouldn’t have a problem with is fresh seafoods which will be in abundance given our immediate proximity to the cold water Pacific.

Other than that we’re on our own.

(Costco has pizza)

Yes they do.
And it's only 64 miles away.
Including "Costco, Eureka has about 20 other pizza joints running the gambit from really awful to super good.

Including top rated "Angeleo's Pizza" which features a 28" pie that needs to be ordered 24 hrs. in advance.
Heck - we could try ordering a few of those and ask for free delivery!

Arcata (Humboldt State University) is a little bit closer than Eureka and they have a few real good pizza joints too.

But you have exemplary Dutch Oven cooking skills...

Does Costco sell pizza dough?
Could a pizza be made in a Dutch Oven?

I am not bringing the DO this time, or even the camp kitchen for that matter. Just bringing a one-burner stove and my new fave coffee maker (Aeropress)! But yes, pizza can be made in a DO! The recipe I saw used the lid as the baking surface and the pot as a cover to melt the cheese. Yummy!

What do you think about a potluck, say Sunday night? Meat on a stick ... and I can use the leftovers to add to Zatarains on Monday. :)

Paul - we won't be too far away from decent provisions...
But you truly are a grand gourmet!

Klamath is 64 miles north of the nearest Costco location in Eureka.
But it's only 20 min. south of Crescent City where we'll find all of the usual fast food dives including a Starbucks.
There's also a Safeway and some discount grocery stores there like Shop Smart Food Warehouse and The Grocery Outlet (dented can store) for the budget conscious.
(like me)

Glad we have our reservations already paid for as we''ll be springing for a motel on the way up from SoCal not including what it costs to get up there and back.
We've already begun purchasing non-perishable dry goods, camping supplies and sundries for the trip.
The more bargins and stuff we find down here now the more cash we'll have to burn up there later - and we intend to have a very good time!

Oh, yes you can borrow my DO anytime. Maybe you can give me some lessons. Come to think of it, you can borrow my whole camping kitchen. It seems like it would be a win, win situation for me. I'll even do the clean-up.

if anyone wants to borrow one, we'll be bringing 2 DO's!!

Our ginormous one we debuted in Oregon cooking a pot roast, then further broke-in at Tahoe with a double batch of Pistachio bread and wagon stew. (seen here serving as a kabob holder... red dixie for scale!)
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j242/Demonsport/EOC%20Campout%20Oregon/IMG_0916.jpg
and the newest addition is more appropriately sized for smaller meals.

The big one has a lid that can be inverted to use as a griddle.... and possibly make pizza! Should be big enough to feed several of us ravenous campers!
Now we REALLY need a fire pit for the backyard.. I've got lots of creations to try!

Miss Ellie & Co.

Paul - that's what I call kabobs!

If you like it fresh and organic there's the Arcata Farmer's Market - every Saturday.
Very festive, live music, good vibes and homegrown foods.

If you need brake pads, Amazon has Monroe front and back ceramics for $5.64 after rebate:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/part-finder...1811&carId=005
That's for my 2005, you should see similar, get the ones with the 'rebates' on the individual page.

If that link doesn't work, just 'add' your vehicle to the list, then look for parks under Replacement Parts > Brake System > Monroe Brake Pads

Mike will know within a month if he can put it all the necessary logistics together - he's hopeful that he can and it would be super if these guys showed up!
Plus he owe's his mom in Arroyo Grande, Ca. a long over do visit.

"Come on Mike and Obi - Let's do this thing!"

that's good, my El Macho trailer likes some 110v!!! WOOHOO!

Side note: Frozen burritos just defrosted, then pan fried in butter are YUMMY for camping. And picking up some Costco pizza might be a good 'night' snack. This time if I do that, I'm collecting some cash first before I go.

Hey!
We've just added another Element to the gig!
Little Blue (husband & wife) from Washington State are insisting that they get in on all the fun. (Obviously some very bright people) 8)

I recieved a PM from these guys yesterday inquiring about it.
For some reason they are not able to post on the thread but they we're able to send me a PM.
Any idea what that's all about?

I told them to contact Junebug and perhaps she can figure out what the posting problem is that Little Blue is having.

Anyway this camping trip just keeps getting bigger all the time.

Yo Obi!

Richelle and I can't wait to see you again!

I'm sure you'll not be wanting for food hand outs.
Heck - I'll be there and you know I love feeding you delicious snacks.

However you may have a little competion from some of the other dogs that will be at the gig -
especially the "Corgi Skullery Crew" (Jack and Rosie) a tag team of professional beggars who ride low to the ground and eat anything that that's not moving much and remotely looks like food.
But don't worry I got your back!

PS: Glad you're bringing Box4Rox along to help with the driving chores

We're hoping that you can pull this off with your schedule too!
Your dogs will love this place.
So how big is your Toy Box Trailer?

As this gathering is occuring after Labor Day I doubt that there will be a problem delaying your reservations until around June.

However: I think you should contact "Aaron" at Kamp Klamath give him the dimensions of your trailer and info pertaining to your reservation date.
He's a great guy and has been very attentive and accomadating of our needs.
I'm guessing he will probably put something aside for you until you know excatly when you'll be able to commit to the trip.

From the looks of things we're going to have about 15 of our canine friends showing up for this. :odie:

This can mean only one thing.. another EOC Dog Show!
We'll have multiple events and catagories that our beloved beasts will compete in - there will be no losers and each dog will win a prize.

Some of the catagories I'm thinking of...

Best Barkdog
Best Tail Wagger
Dog that most Resembles it's Owner
Worst Breath
Best Swimmer
Most Goofy
Best Digger
Best Stupid Trick
Best at not doing Anything at all

If there's something special that your dog does better than anyone else we can make that a catagory too - so please chime in.

PS: This show is for dogs only - Sorry but no humans will be allowed to compete.
However, we will have a similar show for the humans that the dogs can vote on.
Good luck!

I think it's very smart on your part to have Chef Box4Rox cook for you again - I doubt he'd mind.
He loves doing stuff like that!

Box4Rox suggested doing this at Humboldt back in 2007..

"A Group Seafood Dinner Feast"

Plenty of fresh and tasty fish in that cold ocean - halibut, salmon, clams, mussles, Yellow Fin Tuna, squid, seaweed etc.
And there's more than a few excellent fish markets in the area too.
Heck - I think it could be awesome.

The 881 Mile E – Caravan California Coast Tour
Ventura to Klamath

What we have in mind is a 2 day 881 mile caravan from Ventura to Klamath. (Practically the entire coastal route of California.)

This is a scenic tour and will take about 6 hours longer than the conventual long, hot and boring straight freeway drive.
80 percent of the caravan route will include California’s central and northern coast regions on CA 1 ~ Pacific Coast Highway.
If you’ve never driven the coastal route before here’s an excellent opportunity to do one of the world's most spectacular road trips.

This isn’t for peeps that are in a big hurry to get to Klamath as the caravan will slow you down considerably.
However, if you you’re in a more kicked back state of mind and love jaw dropping coastal scenery and all that that has to offer, this is the ticket.
People can join or exit the caravan anywhere along its route.
Many options - you can choose to do the 1st day of the caravan and skip the 2nd or only do the 2nd day and skip the 1st or do part of the 1st day and all of the 2nd or...
There will be rendezvous points along the way for people to join the caravan in route which we will coordinate by cell phone.

We're currently checking out motels north of the Golden Gate Bridge for people wanting to do Thursday night sleep overs and recommend...

America's Best Value Inn & Suites

Again, the caravan will be taking the "scenic leisurely route" so if you're wanting to get to Klamath in a hurry take the freeways instead.

Day 1 ~ Thrusday September 16
The caravan will depart from Carrows restaurant on Shaw Blvd. in Ventura and head north on the 101 to San Luis Obispo where it will converge with CA 1 and take the coast route through...

That sounds awesome, my wife and I just camped there this past August on our "California North Coast Brew Trip and Campout", right on the river, this place is killer!!

Me thinks we'll have to do the trip again, this time with the wee one (our first due in July), if all goes well, you can count us in!!!

Yeah, the new job is holding him captive at a trout fishing resort in Sierras until Columbus Day.

We will miss him at Klamath but he'll be fishin in the Sierras - Glenn will be enjoying himself.

Sweet! I'm really excited, I thought it would be quite some time before I got back up there again.

We're getting all the gear ready for a smaller road trip starting in Kern River and ending in Joshua Tree this week (21-25th), first time I've taken the E out for a road-trip-style campout, should be fun.

Looks like you're in our area, if'n you want to come out, I can send you some details about where we're planning on camping.

Also planning on attending the meet May 8th in Pomona too.

If you decide to partake in the Ventura to Klamath E-Caravan there's more to it than just driving along the coast on Highway 1.

There's a ton-o-fun things to see and do along the route.
We're putting a list together of some of the cool things we'de like to do on the caravan.
In fact there's so many things to do and awesome sights to stop and see, that there's no way we can do them all.
Instead we're trying to pick a few "select" stops along the route that we think would be well worth a visit.
Here's some of a few places that we're considering for a lunch stop on Day 2.

"Tomales Bay Oyster Company" http://tomalesbayoysters.com/app/story?keyword=picnic (http://tomalesbayoysters.com/app/story?keyword=picnic)

Do you like fresh shucked (you do the shucking they supply the shellfish) oysters, mussles and clams?
Expect to see this on the travel menu during the 2nd day of the caravan.
It is a lot of fun and the TBOC loves groups!
This would be very cool spot for us to roll into with a convoy of Elements.

Another place well worth stopping for lunch is...

"The Tides Warf Restaurant" http://www.innatthetides.com/default.aspx?pg=tideswharf&rp=birds (http://www.innatthetides.com/default.aspx?pg=tideswharf&rp=birds)
The Birds: http://www.innatthetides.com/default.aspx?pg=birds&rp=home (http://www.innatthetides.com/default.aspx?pg=birds&rp=home)

Located on the warf in Bodega Bay.
If you've seen the Alfred Hitchco_k's classic 1963 horror movie "The Birds" then you've seen this place before.
If you never seen the movie then you should go rent it as the caravan will be rolling through Bodega Bay.

When we took our trip this last summer, we also partook in a brewery tour on our way up to Redwoods. We are well versed in the So-cal brew scene, and decided to sample some of the finer micro-brewerys that the Northern California coast had to offer. None of these brewerys are more than 30 miles from the coast, and all are absolutely amazing, with the exception of Marin, which makes great beer, but the eating establishment atmosphere was more BJ's than micro.

Marin
Moylands
Russian River
Lagunitas
Bear Republic
Anderson Valley
North Coast
Lost Coast
Eel River
6 Rivers
Mad River

We averaged about two brewerys a day and then found a suitable place to camp afterwards, which wasn't that hard up in Northern Cali. We ended up getting side-tracked and spending three days along the Trinity River swimming and checking out the Alps.

It was an amazing two week trip, and without a doubt my best road-trip ever. I emptied my work van, threw a futon in the back, and we lived out of it while we camped.

I figure we will hit some of our favorites again this time around on our way up, and if you are interested, I can tell you more about any or everyone and what they have to offer besides really AWESOME ale.

Trailryder - I'm certain you'll find takers for a Brewery Tour - this crew's done a couple of wine tours before so they're due for some suds.
Our first EOC Redwoods seven day camping binge was back in 2007.
It was an awesome, tremendously spectacular blast and we've vowed to go back ever since.

I must do it! Seriously - how can you beat this?
Great for a group, the place is dog friendly, you BYOB and fixins.
What more could you want?

It sure looks like one hellava dang good time to me.
Think about it, a EOC Band of Shucksters invasion - and if you guys decide to punk out on this I'm still going to do it.
I love BBQ oysters, clams and mussels with lots of noxicious hot sauces - yummers!
The small sweet ones (which are actually pretty large) you just suck out of the shells raw.. mmmm heaven.

Actually the timing of this could be a problem..
An oyster picnic at 10:00 in the morning might be a bit overwhelming for some.
But we could pick up a few big bags of oysters, clams and mussels, pack it in coolers and have a Seafood Group Dinner at camp Friday night.

My bad John - the correct address is...

Carrows Restaurant
2401 Harbor Blvd.
Ventura, Ca. 93001

This is a very good meet up location for those interested in doing the caravan.
They serve a great breakfast where you can eat in the bar/lounge with tables instead of those cramped booths.
This Carrows was featured in the wine tour movie "Sideways" if you've seen the movie you'll recognize this place.

Don't think there will be enough time to do a full blown oyster picnic bbq on the drive up to Klamath -
but I do think we should entertain the idea of stopping at either of the Oyster farms and pick up some bags of shellfish for a group seafood feast Friday night at camp.

Well, OK, but only if I don't have to lick any slugs.

Re. E-artists. I definitely hope Watson the E will turn out to be a studio on wheels. I'm heading out on my first E-enabled stealth-camper overnighter (at the terribly romantic Lodi Flying J truck stop) this weekend to paint the wineries around Woodbridge. And, I'll be heading South and living out of the E for a few days mid-May in yet another attempt to paint Pinto Mountain's portrait. It's such a relief already having my own little (affordable) home on wheels.

Hi, a little late. Sorry to have missed you. I spent a great, uneventful night in the E (thanks FJ), and then a great Saturday painting, and having a hamburger at DeeDee's, and walking the Lodi Lake nature trail, and, of course, supporting the local wine business. I wound up painting the old Roma Winery on Hwy. 12/Victor Road (http://briganarts.viviti.com/files/images/Copy-of-STP66689_500opt.JPG). Great little mini-trip.

Hey - I'm getting a few inquiries about group activities,
The East Coast National Meet peeps are doing somesorta Full Monty Pole Dancing thingy.
(yeah I know it sounds gross but kuddos to them for trying something unique)

As for the West Coast National Meet... do we want to do some group activities for the seven days that most of us will there?
We have the week end covered.

Friday: EOC Dog Show - late afternoon.

Saturday: All-You-Can-Eat "Salmon & Chicken BBQ" followed by a sure to be a blast Saturday Night Music Jam which will go on until Midnight - both of those activities are sponsored by our campground host.

Sunday: Junebug's Pot Luck Dinner and a Gag Gift Exchange.

Monday:

Tuesday:

Wednesday:

Thursday:

Thus far most all of the group activities are evening events.
The campground has Horse Shoe Pits, Disc Golf, and Volley Ball available we could do something with those if we like.

We might want to consider doing something outside of camp and take advantage of the incredible beauty of the natural enviorment we'll be stuck in for the entire week.
Got any ideas?

The Food Network has a show called "The Best Thing I Ever Ate!" where their top chefs talk about the best thing they ever ate.
FN Chef "Tyler Florence" is on record as saying "the best thing he ever ate" were fresh oysters at The Tomales Bay Oyster Company.

I thought the campin' fools might get a laugh from that pic. I just got back yesterday from my 3 week trip around Utah and Arizona. That picture was taken in Kodachrome Basin State Park in Utah. I did not even notice it until I had started setting up camp. It was fun watching other campers walking by and then do a double take when they saw the rock formation. Lot's of laughing and picture taking. It looked sort of ominous at dusk:

What Greg said.

Newbees always have a little apprehension the first time they attend one of these gigs.
After all you're about to go camping with a bunch of strangers.
Pay no attention to it - this is normal.

But once you meet us you'll soon see that you're in very good company.
You'll be treated like family and realize that you're about to have one of your best times ever.

I've considered as much and suggest that you have a 2nd Unit Director available for shooting the videos.

I think "Imperience" would be an excellent choice for the job.
This way you can catch up with your beauty sleep and Andy can shoot vids while your snoozing.
. :odie:

Oh heck yes! I'll have to watch a bunch of Barbara Walters youtube clips so that I can hone my interviewing skills.

Latest List of Camping Fools:

According to our Poll this is what we’re looking like at the moment.

Kamp Klamath is putting the final details on a newly built campground area in a primo location between a large meadow, wooded area and the river called “Riverwoods.”
Riverwoods is a "choice" spot and off to itself away from the larger tent area of the campground.
It has 16 sites and is sooo darn nice that people who have seen it, have already begun booking sites there even though it’s still under construction.
Ideally it’s been both Kamp Klamath and my intention to place us in the Riverwoods so we can have more privacy, not be a bother to other campers (groups do get noisy) and so we're not flung out all over the campground.

I spoke with the fine folks at Kamp Klamath today and requested a list of peeps who’ve already reserved their campsites.

So far – out of the 28 EOCer’s who’ve responded to the Poll and stated their intentions to attend we have “10” confirmed campsite reservations.
We’re still 4 months and two weeks away from the Meet.
Given Klamath's remote, far off the beaten path location and the fact that this will be taking place after Labor Day it’s likely that people will be able to find campsite availability up until the day of the Meet.
However; should you decide to wait much longer to make reservations you might be in campsites away from the main group at Riverwoods.
(not that there's anything wrong with that - all the tent campsites at Klamath are very nice)

Riverwoods has 16 sites half of which are already booked by EOC members
It would be ideal to have all 16 of the Riverwoods campsites sites reserved exclusively for EOC.

We always have procrastinators and wait-until-the-last minute people attending our Meets which is OK and we expect as much.
But if you'de like to hang at EOC Camp Central in campsites with all of the other cool kids (Riverwoods) it's best to make your reservations ASAP.

Hi Gene! I show RJHinPDX confirming in post #51, and I confirmed in post #63. Should I call Klamath to make sure they have me? I know I called and signed up for two dinners on Saturday night but now I'm wondering if they didn't get it recorded somewhere ... pretty sure it went through on my AmEx.

HaHaHa!

No sweat Bob.

Finding campsites at Klamath won't be a problem.
I was just sayin' - for the benefit of those that want to be next door neighbors and so they would know where EOC Camp Central is going to be.

Dang - sorry bout that Trina.

A new guy was on the desk at Klamath today.
Perhaps he wasn't tuned in to the latest ups on this.
I marked you and RJH on the list as reserved.

I'll contact Klamath again tomorrow and make everything all spiffy.

Hopefully they'll still let me in if I don't have a reservation and just intend on joining the Boxmob congregation for a while. If not, I may just sit down the way a bit with a pair of binoculars.

Will anybody be bringing bikes with them?

we're planning on bringing ours... not for touring, just for riding around the grounds a bit. My wifes bike is just a classic cruiser, so she really can't go anywhere extreme.
However, if there're any nice, easy trails in the area, we may be up for that.

LOL!
Californium - Of course they will let you in.
You won't need camping reservations if you're just doing day trips to visit the Boxmob.

Bikes: Yes everyone will be bringing thier bikes so bring yours along too.

BRING YOUR BIKES!

That's my speed too.

I google mapped (it's shown with pics) the road out side the campground entrance (Klamath Beach Road) and then followed it west.
The road is coastal, flat, narrow, with some of it paved and some of it not.
Our general location is situated on a large peninsular west of the 101 and Klamath Beach Road loops around it.
It goes through the forest with excellent views of the ocean and connects to the Mouth of the Klamath, Flint Rock Head, White Rock and few other equally nice roads (including a Jeep Trail) with all of it on the peninsular and just outside the campground.

This is a superb location for biking!

Just got off the phone with Doug at Kamp Klamath.
It seems that they had some of us in the new Riverwoods tent sites and others elsewhere.

Everything is being readjusted.

Doug will call me tomorrow with the newly revised, updated, reserved campsite list.

I've never been a big fan of using name tags as I find them silly and personally I answer just fine to "hey you" and "what was your name again?"
But that's just me.

However we may have more than the usual amount of newbees with us who don't know anyone.
It could be difficult for those guys to remember people's names.

Ideas and concerns...

If we made name tags for everyone would people wear them?

Pranksters might switch name tags with others and confuse the crap out of people.

People could sew thier names on the back of thier shirts.

The dogs should have name tags. (Dog Tags! - get it? yuk yuk yuk)

Tattoos would work good too.

Name tags written in Chinese?

Yay, I'm in! Officially or otherwise. :)

RE: the nametags. We were all new once! I have no idea what that Bob Dylan guy's name is. I think if I say "hey Bob Dylan guy" the right person would answer. All's fair in love and camping! (faheyd) haha

My point is that I'm not really sure I know what people's names really are anyway. While I don't usually go by nicknames, if you're gonna do it, camp is the place, right?

I'm up for anything. You can call me Trina, you can call me Junebug, just don't call me late for meat-on-a-stick.

Funny!

I've known "Bob" since our first meet back in 2007 and even though his first name is Dylan, I like everyone else contniue to call him Bob.

I'm OK with name tags.
I think the tags should read both EOC nick names and people's actual first names.
With the exception of "Bob" who should have 3 name tags... "Bob, Faheyd and Dylan."
