After viewing this poll (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=118).

I think that younger people are going for orange.
Older are sticking with the Shoreline Mist, Satin Silver and to a certain degree the Black (though I bet that is really both ways)

No real reason, just what appeals to me vs. what people here are saying.

Under my Anyone seen a SOP thread, I noticed that there were a lot of comments about the wife not liking the orange. Myself, if it had been a little redder, I would have liked it a lot. Husbandf liked green, but when I saw it and a shoreline mist, it had to be the shoreline mist. And, yes I do fit your older demographic.

Shoreline Mist. No other reason than that I wanted to have a vehicle the color of dirt... less drive to clean it all the time.

I once had a fiat that was orange, actually color scheme very similar SoP and element gray. Liked it very much -- but it showed every ding !!!

I will NEVER own a black vehicle again... H O T in Summer, Spring and Fall -- shows all the dirt and dings... well how does white on black usually look to you?

49 getting delivery on a green next week.

Black is too difficult to keep loking nice here.
Blue is almost as bad as black to keep nice.
Silver just looks too cartoonish and mechanical for me, almost like a kitchen untensil.
Orange is. . . well it's just the wrong shool colors, even if I do like the attitude.
Shoreline was my second choice.
Why didn't they have a chromium yellow? That would have been mine over green.

29 year old and Silver Satin is it for me! Being more on the practical side, I think it will look good for the longest time. Dust and dirt is not that noticeable unlike the other darker colors. I know I'm going to get a lot of flak for this but I think the SOP color will only look good when its new. When the car gets older, that SOP will not be the same. Just my 2 cents...

Actually DXBoy, Silver will fade a lot faster than most other colors in a hotter climate. I’m originally from Palm Springs, CA where the average temp in summer is around 115 degrees. If you own silver / gray or fire engine red vehicle in the desert, you better keep the “wax on” or it will start to fade in a few years.

BTW.. 35 here - Own a great looking driveway ornament (SOP)

I started out liking all the colors. Lately, the dealers have had so many Blacks, Blues, and Silvers it has colored my thinking. I think it's only a temporary thing.

You just don't see that many Shoreline, GG, or Orange and that "colors" your opinion.

Most people I've talked to like all the colors - just think some don't fit their personality. Some people don't see themselves in a Orange vehicle ever.

I think the Blue is too dark though.

33 and having a blast! I like all the colors, it was the interiors(huh, being an interior designer!) that steered my selection. Black was out for all the afore mentioned reasons, even though I must say its a beautiful metalic finish and when viewed in the sun its got great depth with flakes on blue, purple, green nicely done. Blue was nice and if you say my early auto show photos its very rich and has lots of purple undertones. However, I didn't care for the blue on the interior. So that axed silver for the same blue interior. Green was going to be it until I say the interior, just didn't like the green on the dash and doors. Well, it will have to be something with the black interior then...which leads me to SOP or SLMist. What a tuff decision. SOP was just to trendy for me...Visions of bobbie trendy(from The anna nicole show) in my head (!@#$%^) NO WAY... so SLMist for me. Nice classic color. Good business color, too. They say it shimers at night!

Being a Honda fanatic, and living in a very sunny climate, (Orlando, Florida). I have personally owned 3 silver Hondas. An 88 Crx Dx, An 89 Crx Si, and the cars I still have, a 97 Civic LX, with a 130,000 miles, and a 91 Crx Si in Granada Black Pearl, with 164,000. Never had an issue with any of them. The silver never faded, although the black was prone to losing it's clearcoat early. Buck up young Honda fan! Silver on a Honda will last you!

I got the silver 4 wheel drive DX. It's what they had on the lot in my trim level. I wanted to try and enhance my negotiating leverage on this brand new model. I also timed my "buying D Day" for the last business day of February at the dealer. I'm 40 y.o. male. My wife liked the neutral color of silver (so did I). I learned a long time ago that if you buy what they have in stock, you save $$$. I won't buy a color that I can't stand, but I'll always remain flexible on color preference for the sake of the deal.

We love our green Element. Metallic sparkles in the sun light. We're 40 +.
We were going to wait for the orange (red? burnt red/orange? dark orange?).

My understanding is that the Sand Metallic Beige is hard to find on lots and the Green is tougher at least in the OH market.

Only one I seen with interior garnishes which sorta match the exterior.

What does age have to do with car/color choice any way?

The average age of Porsche drivers?
The average age of Ferrari drivers?
The average age of S2000 owners?

 I say we all lobby Honda to make HONDA provide us with metal replacements for these scratch prone fenders which we can have mounted if and when we choose!

SLM - 42 male.

Actually, color was secondary to getting a 5-speed

I test drove an SOP 5-sp. EX and really liked it, but the dealer was a wanker, so I bolted. The dealer I ended up with was a tool, too, but by then I was aware of the scarcity of 5-sp. and SLM seemd ok in the brochure so I bought it sight unseen and when it came in, I was glad to have it. I still really like SOP, but it was play Mist-E for me...

I am considering buying an Element. Seems like all the dealers here have the black, blue and maybe the beige, orange and grey but noone has the green. Cannot believe that Honda has such unattractive colors. No white, red, forest green or even maroon???????? I am settling for the green but I wish it wasn't so avocadoish and more mintish. I like the blue but have had 2 major accidents in a blue vehicle - there is no way I would touch a blue vehicle. Anyone who lived through the seventies surely has to remember those ugly orange nissan/datsun hatchbacks. The black looks like a hearse. The beige makes it look more like a generic van. Again why why why not a white? I live in the desert and I would say at least one in four autos I see are white.

04-12-2003, 06:33 PM
I guess it's all a matter of taste, isn't it? I thought the color choices were really nice. I live on a dirt road, so black and blue were definitely out for me, but it was tough to decide among the others. I never saw the "beige", but if my soon-to-be SOP is any indication, describing it as beige is a bit of an injustice. The SOP is a very different color (of course, how we'll all feel in 5-10 years is open to question), but it's really attractive, especially with all the trim panels for contrast. And I thought the green was classy.

The E is a different kind of vehicle. I'll bet the CR-V comes in those other colors...I know it comes in white.

I love my Eternal Blue!!!!!! I love my E!!!!!! I have always wanted a blue car so I asked the dealer when the next blue 2WD EX was coming in and put a small deposit on it. I just got it 4/16 and the color is beautiful in every setting. But as long as you're choosing the E, you just can't go wrong.

I wanted a manual transmission and green. Turns out that's tough--at least in California. Multiple dealers told me that the build schedule shows only 3 coming to CA through the end of May: 2 to the bay area and one to L.A.

One of the dealers scheduled for one gave be a decent price (not jumped up and down what a bargain, but a bit under MSRP. the other wouldn't drop at all. Most others wouldn't even try to get the green for me. I got one lower quote on a Shoreline Mist (my 2nd choice--I like the lighter interior in the green), but the color I want was worth the extra $100.

Now I get to wait. Build date week of 5/12.

I went for the Silver, since I thought it provided the best contrast with the color of the composite panels. My second choice was Blue, and it looks really sweet, but it doesn't have quite the same two-tone effect as the silver does.

We've been backing and forthing on this issue. The problem is we haven't been able to find a SLM in the wild.
What I have noticed is that they look different out on the street than they do all lined up on the lot.
I've seen Black, Silver, SOP, and Blue on the road and none were very attractive. Of course all were dusty/road dirty but that's real life isn't it?

The sales manager at our dealer said this about orange: People seem to like that color but a couple of years down the road he suspects they will be really tired of it. He cited experience with some unusual Datsun, VW, and Porsche colors in the past. He has something like 30 years of experience in the business and was speaking strictly as an observer of buying behavior--not making a value judgement.

I personally like the SOP. However our preference was the Eternal Blue Pearl and that is what we bought.

IMHO there are really only 2 colors to consider unless you just happen to be a fanatic on a specific color. These 2 colors are SOP and SLM. Reasoning is --

Black - shows dirt and scratches way too easily. Hot in the summer.
Blue - Ditto the dirt. Also, they put that ugly blue color on the interior.
Silver - Just too common and they also put that ugly blue color inside.
Green - Outside looks ok but the inside green is just not classy at all.

So, that leaves the SOP if you want to be sporty and the SLM if you want to be classy. Both have the great looking black and gray interior and both are not bad at showing dirt.

Seriously, that is my reasoning but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As long as you like your color, that is the correct choice.

I just ordered the SOP; I'll be 49 in September and the wife is 51. My second choice was the GG. If the Element had come in a brick red (any dark or fire engine red) I would have bought two 8)

The only bummer is ... I just traded in a '99 Miata. Nothing is quite as fun to drive

first, i wanted silver so dirt didn't show. then, i wanted fire engine red because i wanted to be highly visible on the road. a bonus for lazy drivers who don't look before they change lanes, turn, etc. a minus as the hwy patrol always seem to see you. but after having too many people almost run into me in my civic, i wanted RED.

since Honda didn't present that option  , I considered the SOP and test drove it. but all in all, it was a little too burnt sienna for my taste. the only other cars on the lot were green and black. i know you turtle lovers adore your green and more power to you. but to my mind, they both looked just a little too much like range rover colors.

so after that, it didn't really matter, so i told my broker to get me whatever he could immediately and surprise me. what a surprise when i drove up and saw my blue tonka truck! love at first sight. :D i actually love the blue interior. it's so playful!

I have ASM, and now I seem to want to put stickers on it. I needed a replacement vehicle so had to pick from what was around locally (wanted AT AWD) so it came down to ASM or Black.

But if anything orange would've been in stock, well, I may have gone to the orange side.

The plus with ASM is - doesn't need washed that much (agh!) and I can add stickers.
