My career has evolved recently and I needed a more "client-friendly" vehicle so I bought a Lexus and my wife got the Element. After about a month she decided that she didn't like it because it doesn't have seating for five and we have kids that have to do the parking lot Element door shuffle all the time. Plus, I think she wants her own Lexus now - she's eyeing a used RX300.

I love the E but when you're in sales and need to drive an executive that makes 250k+/year to lunch it makes less sense to be driving one - especially when you consider that I'm asking the guy to spend millions on our solutions. In his mind, if I'm selling to him at that level, then why am I driving him around in a sub 20k car?

As snotty as that sounds, perception might as well be truth. These guys are expecting a Lexus, BMW, or MB to pull up, not a Honda. :(

ok i see what you mean, ashame so many people have to be that wrapped up in that concept.. but well the Acura MDX and Lexus's are nice.. (please don't go with a BMW.. they are not worth it)..

Good luck!

Actually, I understand this behavior from the persepective of how our society classifies people by economic status (hell I'm playing right into it!) - successful executives are simply people who are exceptional at playing by these rules and are a product of that system. So it's not surprising to me that they prefer to work with people who play by similar rules and have similar success levels - it only makes sense if you look at it that way. Things like cars and houses simply provide these folks with an outward means of classification.

Sports always provide a good analogy - if you were looking for a footbal linebacker you typically don't pick a 140 pound skinny guy, you look for a 300 pound hulk. In basketball (a few exceptions aside) you generally want tall players.

I think this way myself, I mean - I probably wouldn't be interested in working for a company if I thought the CEO was a phony, or inexperienced, or even broke! Hell, I wouldn't want my CEO's mind on being broke, I would much rather have him thinking about how to make the company successful.

Just bumping this thread - after being lax for quite awhile I'm actively looking to sell this car again -so- I've reduced the price to $19,500 OBO and I've put an ad on cars.com - take a look at: this link. (http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=21&paId=152438978&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&recnum=2&leadExists=true&criteria=K-%7CE-%7CM-_18_%7CD-_6828_%7CN-N%7CR-30%7CI-1%7CP-PRICE+descending%7CQ-descending%7CZ-01564&aff=national)

I wish I had seen this post in early July. I'm in Westfield, MA and would have loved to buy your ride. Unfortunately, I went to a god-awful CT dealership and bought my 04. Then last week after seeing mine, one of my best friends went out and bought an 04 just like yours (minus all the cool custom extras.).
Well, I've had many people ask me about my E, so if any seem to be interested in buying I'll point them your way. In the mean time, good luck, both in your business and selling your E.

EMass Im happy for you but sad to see the E go. I had a crazy dream that some stupid newbie would buy it and part it out for dirt cheap but I guess your wife getting a new car is more important.
